I pretend to be Campy, but I am Cameron. But does anyone even know the real me?
When I meet my new roommate, a sexy Texan cowboy and break-out TV star named Jackson, all my lies start to come out. He makes me want to be myself, but I've spun so many lies that I don't even know who I am anymore. The more I fall for him, the more I worry that all my secrets will destroy us before we have a chance to be together. Good thing Jackson has a stubborn streak and won't give up so easily.
K.M.Neuhold has long since been a romance junkie. When she’s not writing she’s reading or spending time snuggling with her husky or her husband. She fell in love with M/M romance last year and hasn’t been able to turn back. There’s nothing she loves more than love in all its forms.
While there were parts of this story that were funny and adorable, both Cameron and Jackson were super-chill, level-headed, and responsible guys, which didn't exactly bore me, but neither MC really inspired that much excitement, either.
They were great guys and I really liked them both, but for an upcoming TV star and a well-known gay porn actor, thrilling was about the very last word that I'd use for either of their lives.
They worked their jobs, came home, cooked and spent time together, but other than that, there wasn't a whole lot else.
Except for the sex that started at around 60%, and STEADILY continued until the end of the story. To the point where I began skimming over the steam.
The potential for the angst to blow up to Amy Lane proportions was there, mainly when the press found out that the breakout actor from a prime time TV drama was dating a gay porn star, but the resolution for that situation was super-quick and simple, so even that potential excitement just sort of fizzled, instead of popped
I think even a tiny bit more push-back and on-page drama from Jackson's ultra-conservative, small-town, Texas father might've given the book a touch more much-needed, real life conflict.
I'd rate this one at around 3.5 stars for likeability, without a whole lot of wow moments. Nice, just not anything ground-breaking, and the least memorable story in the series, IMO.

I seem to be in the minority here. At least among my GR friends. But this is my favorite of the series. Hands down, the best. It hit every single button.
Texas Hill Country (gay) cowboy Jackson runs off to to Hollywood for his first big break in a TV series.
Roommate (not gay?) Cameron (Ballsy Boys' Campy) takes on a boarder to help make ends meet.
I fell in love with each of them in turn. Jackson is such a wholesome, good hearted man. Sweet, caring, non-judgemental. I could just feel his light shining through the pages.
I couldn't imagine anyone being good enough for him. But Campy was. Who knew? The way he worked so hard to take care of his sick mother. Not entirely giving up his dreams but putting them on the back burner. The only thing that bugged me was
There were so many scenes that took my breath away. The guys horseback riding. Looking at the stars. The joy Cam got from working at the wildlife preserve. Jackson cooking and finding the perfect dates to take Cameron on. Cameron's mom and her unfailing support for her son. Jackson's brother Brax and his support. Jackson's siblings and their names. ...
I know I'm just throwing a bunch of deets out here that make no sense, but the way they all came together in this lovely romance was so perfect for me. I thoroughly connected with both characters. I felt their fears and their courage. There were even a couple of scenes where I got teary eyed from happiness. Once when Cam's mom supported him wholeheartedly and told him so over the phone. Another when Jackson admitted to the whole world, on prime time TV, how he felt about Cameron.
I never imagined Campy's story would be my favorite. But it is - by far. 😍😍😍
Guys, this is a fantastic series. But each book "can" be read as a stand-alone since they each cover a new romance. I recommend the entire series, but especially this book.
Although Campy hadn't made all that big an impression on me in the previous books, his story turned out to be one of my favorites of the series so far. A slow-burn, roommates to friends to lovers story that was low angst and all kinds of sweet.
Jackson with his Texas manners and drawl, is a romantic at heart. He has limited experience, yet he's not looking for a hook-up. He's a relationship kind of guy. Campy, is a good-hearted man who is weighed down by some secrets and some self-esteem issues. He is also really confused about his growing feelings towards Jackson. After all Campy is straight, he's just doing gay porn because it pays more than straight porn and it's the only way he can help out with his mother's medical expenses.
While not a lot really happens in the first part of the story, I adored the interactions between Campy and Jackson as they get to know each other and Jackson acclimates to his new town and his new job. The bits of jealousy, the perfect first dates and even meeting Campy's mother. They all had me rooting for Jackson to finally get his man. When they do finally get together more than halfway through the book, they certainly make up for lost time with plenty of hot and heavy sex.
I liked seeing the boys again and there are a few other lovely secondary characters here. There were quite a few issues that had the potential to rain angst and drama down on the men, but they wind up being pretty easily resolved. That is probably the only bit of disappointment for me here. I was hoping at least one of these would cause a bit more of a stir for them to deal with.
(I also loved the little nod at the readers who are all clamoring for Pixie's story - which is finally going to be here in a few weeks!)
I wasn't sure whether I was going to like this one as it, on the surface, focused on gay for pay (controversial in some circles) star Campy but I shouldn't have been worried.
There are enough little hints and snippets dropped into the opening couple of chapters for the reader to realise, way before Campy aka Cameron himself does, that he's bisexual and has had crushes on men he's never noticed for what they were.
Jackson's arrival in town, as Cameron's new roommate, begins to stir feelings he's never had before and it's amusing to watch him fall in love without noticing he's doing so.
Campy/Cameron is a cleverly written character, he takes the reader on a journey as much as he takes himself as his various different lives and personas begin to come crashing together once Jackson arrives in his life.
Jackson's almost too good to be true :) he's really just a genuine old-fashioned Texas boy who wants to find the love of his life and settle into the white picket fence life and when he meets Cam, it quickly becomes clear he's found his one.
The story goes on a few twists and turns as Jackson's TV show starts to make his face more recognisable and then inadvertently expose all Cam's secrets. The fall out is dealt with in a way which makes sense and which gives Cam the chance to get his own head around what's happening in his life.
Eventually there's reconcilliation and a truly lovely conclusion to what was an excellently plotted and paced - and seriously sweet and hot - romance in the Ballsy Boys series.
Now bring on Pixie and Bear!

I've tried numerous times to get into Neuhold's work, but her writing style just doesn't do it for me. It's too chatty and breaks the fourth wall.
This book has other things going against it, like one of the MCs doing porn. Yes, yes, I know. The entire series features guys from the Ballsy Boys porn studio. That's sort of the point.
That's why I skipped the first three books, but the cowboy in this blurb called to me!
And, wow, was Jackson a nice guy. He was so damn good, he didn't feel real.
Cameron, on the other hand, was a flawed character. For one, he was in denial about being bi, to the point I was rolling my eyes, because everyone knows you like to fuck guys, Campy. God.
For two (this is a real transition; don't hate on me), Campy was a liar. A big, BIG, pathological liar. So many lies. I hate lying. I didn't like Cameron.
But back to the porn thing: I respect sex workers. There's no shame in doing porn. Porn (no, autocorrect, I don't mean "pork" although bacon is delicious) is great. I just don't find it romantic.
As such, one of the MCs fucking other dudes for pay while in a relationship pretty much killed the story for me.
Alas, the ending was sweet, and I loved Campy's mom. Sadly, that wasn't quite enough.
Another instalment in this series and it was great fun!
I was really curious about Campy and his roommate Jackson, considering we were told before that Jackson is straight. Well, the authors have quite a few surprises for us in that department! (And it’s not as straightforward - sorry, no pun intended - as you might think!)
Campy is probably the most torn character out of all so far. He has told so many lies to so many people it’s killing him. Meeting Jackson brings them all out in the open, one by one. And the guilt, shame and self-doubt he feels are pretty suffocating him.
Jackson is just a darling of the first order. Straight as an arrow (LOL) when it comes to honesty and loyalty and adorably unversed in the ways of gay life in LA, he just creates a huge amount of fuzzy, warm feels! I chuckled and grinned and quietly hoped that one day I get a son-in-law just like him!
This book is probably not quite as high on steamy scenes as the others (no worries, there is still plenty of sizzling sex!), but stronger on feelings and relationship development. And yeah, why would I complain about that! The toeing and froeing between these guys – particularly with Cameron blowing hot and cold at the beginning – is sweet and delicious, and it all ends in pure romance (for some reason I didn’t mind the extra bit of sugar at the end)
One more thing I wanted to mention before: All the books in this series are happening on overlapping timelines. So certain events are mentioned in a few books. It’s not something I have come across too often like this, but I actually quite enjoyed that.
This one made me smile so much! Great entertainment on all accounts!
"In all honesty, I feel like at least half the comments on any video I’m in are about Pixie— I need more Pixie! When will it be Pixie’s turn to cum ;)? Pixie! Pixie! Pixie! Don’t get me wrong, Pixie is a great kid and I can understand why guys are nuts for him. But damn if it doesn’t hurt my ego just a bit."
Cameron has been keeping so many secrets that they are starting to drag him down. When he gets a new roommate, Jackson, there is something about him that makes him open up. However, he worries how everyone will react when they find out he has been lying for years.
Fun read. Jackson and Cameron were adorable and cute together. Jackson opened Cam's eyes to part of him he didn't know existed.
Not a bad story in this series...but I think I and everyone else that reads it are more than champing at the bit to read about Pixie and Bear, which must be coming along soon...surely?? No more teasing authors please.
The only person that didn't believe Campy was bi was Campy himself obviously 😃...or maybe he was just Jackson-sexual...and why wouldn't he be?? Have to say Jackson reminded me very strongly indeed of Tommy, one of the characters in First, and of course it just so happens that the other MC of that particular story was a porn star [and indeed, an actual porn star is featured on the cover]. Jackson was such a lovely young guy...sweet, kind and respectful and a perfect advert for the Lone Star state. He has his own secrets of course...but nowhere near as many as his new roomie Cameron. Leave this one here...4 stars.
Oh this was cute ... even if I found it hard to believe Cam’s line ...I’m straight but I work in gay porn ! Jackson was the stereotypical cowboy with good manners, the good ole boy, who fell for his roomie Cam in one moment. While the storyline was pretty easy to plot and follow, I liked the fact that this was just a simple sweet romance with low angst. Just a nice easy read ❤️
Even though it was a minor thing, one plot line was never fully resolved. Cameron was offered a full time position at his non porn job, but we’re never told if he accepts.
After DNF’ing Heart I wasn’t sure about continuing this series but I’m glad I did because I really enjoyed this one.
Like the other books in this series, a great deal of disbelief needs to be suspended 😂 Jackson starring in a new successful tv show whilst still having a LOT of free time was a major one.
I actually loved Cam’s bi awakening, honestly it was too relatable 😭😂
I felt like this book addressed the fact Campy was only doing porn because he desperately needed the money without treating it like that fact was the worst thing in the world. Most people have done jobs they didn’t love to pay the bills and I liked that they didn’t treat this very differently to that.
When Cam’s lies start to unravel I actually just felt really relieved for him that he didn’t have to keep up with them all anymore. Considering this book is about a porn star and a new actor, it was very cosy. Lots of quiet moments having dinner and watching nature documentaries, it was really cute 😂
I struggled a bit with the ending. Not sold on the idea of immediately giving up all your financial independence in one go but I suppose it’s a romance book not real life so I’ll let it go.

Jackson was the sweetest character, I loved him immediately. And his southern accent melted me (I applaud the narrator, he did a fantastic job). Campy was a very complicated character and I think he was really well written. He made some bad choices but he changed and he grew and I really appreciate that as a reader. I have to admit that Campy’s denial about his sexuality made roll my eyes sometimes, he was just so clueless, but I really understand how hard it can be sometimes, and I thought it made the story interesting. I loved his conversation with Pixie. Fantsatsic book, fantastic narration! I enjoyed every minute!
Campy has been in all of the books so far obviously, and he has a “secret” that kept getting hinted at little by little in each book. He gets a roommate named Jackson which we were introduced to in the last book.
The timeline of events kind of overlaps between books. So in the previous book Campy takes Jackson to the bar to hang out with the other Ballsy Boys and they’re all teasing Campy about hooking up with Jackson, to which Campy tells everyone that “Jackson is straight.”
So color me surprised when we find out that Jackson is gay in chapter freaking 2. I was so confused for awhile until that scenario comes back up and Campy mentions in his POV that he lied about that comment at 57%.
It isn’t so much of a spoiler as it was mentioned in the previous books... but it turns out that Campy is actually straight. Or so he says. Gay for Pay is what he refers to his job as... his mom has MS and he needs to pay for her care. He doesn’t feel much sexually for the other Ballsy Boys and has mentioned having to take viagra at first and then eventually think of something else while having sex.
My head is spinning. I thought this was going to be a sort of GFY story and I suppose it kind of still is? But it kind of isn’t. It’s just backwards. Ugh, I don’t even know how to explain it...
Campy/Cameron thinks he’s straight until he starts feeling things for Jackson. But he’s adamant that he’s not gay so Jackson starts trying to date and Cameron gets jealous as fuck.
But Jackson... ohhhh my gosh, I just loved him. He’s not looking for a hookup, he wants an actual forever kind of relationship. He never felt the spark with anyone else because he was in love with Cameron even though the dude claimed he was straight. So instead of giving up on Cam, he keeps trying with him and shows him how much he cares. It’s so cute. I loved his character so much. ❤️
And Cam... I felt bad for him whenever he felt ashamed of himself, like he wasn’t good enough. He’d get panic attacks with how much guilt he was feeling and the secrets he kept from everyone. It was great to see how much lighter he felt toward the end of the book after everything was out in the open. I love seeing a character get their happy ending. 😍
The porn thing was never an issue for Jackson, but this one was different in that Cameron didn’t enjoy it. He wasn’t happy doing porn whatsoever but only did it to afford his mom’s hefty medical bills. Some scenes were mentioned while Jackson and Cameron were together and Cameron had little comments about his ass getting pounded earlier in the day when he came home to Jackson. Kinda awkward for me as a reader, but there was no issue between the two of them about it. And Cameron did not continue his porn career by the end and quit as soon as he was able to, unlike Heart and Tank + Brewer’s books. Makes me feel a tiny bit better.
One thing I fucking loved was the mention of In-N-Out. As someone that lives in California, I had to laugh out loud at this whole scene. We’re serious about our In-N-Out burgers and everyone else is just like... “what is the big deal” And the mention of animal style fries and the secret menu 😂😂 I was so damn amused.
And dude... I swear with these side characters. I have to start hunting down books from other series to see if these characters are in them or have their own books. Jackson’s brother, Braxton, was mentioned in this book and he came out as bisexual. It just gave off a feel that he might have had his own book or something along those lines. Enough so that I have to look through this author’s entire backlist to see if he’s mentioned in the description. 😂
Anyway.. this was a pretty good read. Honestly, Jackson’s character is what made it that much more enjoyable for me. I just love a super genuinely nice character who cares about everyone and isn’t a ho. Those are my favorites. 🤷🏼♀️
~~~~ Ein vertrautes Schuldgefühl schnürt meinen Bauch ein, denn jede meiner Lügen fühlt sich an, als würde sie eine Tonne wiegen und auf meinen Schultern lasten - Lügen gegenüber den Jungs, mit denen ich zusammenarbeite, gegenüber Bear, gegenüber meiner eigenen Mutter. Gestern habe ich Jackson kennengelernt und er bekommt bereits meine Standardlügen zu hören. Ich verdiene keine Freunde. 🥺💔 ~~ Ich will keinen anderen. Ich will Cameron, und ich bin bereit zu warten, bis er seinen Kopf aus dem Arsch zieht und erkennt, wie perfekt wir zusammenpassen. Ich bin sein Mann. Er muss nur die Augen aufmachen und es sehen. ❤️🙌🏼 ~~~~
Uff… direkt zu Anfang, wird ein Geheimnis von Campy gelüftet, das mich schon ein wenig überrascht hat. 😲 Ich liebe diesen fürsorglichen Kerl… wie er sich um seine Mutter kümmert… was er alles aufgibt und auf sich nimmt… 🤍🤍🤍
Der herzensgute Cowboy Jackson, der vor seinem eigentlichem Leben davonrennt und versucht seinen Traum in L.A. zu leben, ist unglaublich empathisch und sympathisch. 🥰🤍 Ein liebenswerter Kerl, der sofort ein Plätzchen in meinem Herzen eingenommen hat.
Die beiden Protas und deren Geschichte, haben mir des Öfteren die Tränchen in die Augen getrieben! Mal waren es die „awww… sooo sweet!“-Momente 🥹 und mal, weil es einfach traurig-berührend war. 😢 Eine weitere wundervolle Story aus der Ballsy Boys Reihe 🥰 aber ich bin schon ein wenig wehmütig! Denn nun wartet der letzte Band auf mich… 😫
I was really disappointed in this one. I'm not sure what I was expecting, though, because Campy didn't really get a lot of exposure in the first three books.
I couldn't buy into either of these characters. The biggest issue I had is that Campy was written as though he didn't know he wasn't gay or bi-sexual. He's a freaking GAY porn star. I mean, I get he could be in denial, blah blah, but this didn't work for me AT.ALL.
Then you add Jackson in. While he's this down-home country boy, he was a little too sweet.
I'm also not a fan of books that go start at a point we've already read. We get to relive Brewer and Tank first having their scenes together and then moving in together again. It's frustrating since I've already read these scenes and this book didn't add anything really different.
[3.5] for the past few months i’ve been in this cycle of traveling then promptly getting struck out of service because my immune system is shot, so i am all for low angst goodness right now. Jackson may be perfect and Cameron may be denser than a bowl of uranium, but i still had oodles of fun 😆
Nos Ballsy boys sont de retour ! 🔥 Cet opus est une vraie romance feel-good, un vrai conte de fée moderne à la sauce Pretty Woman ! Et franchement, cela m'a donné le sourire et fait un bien fou au moral même si je reconnais que les auteurs n'ont pas lésiné avec la dose de fluffy...
J'aime bien le côté doudou de cette série même si elle n'a finalement rien d'extraordinaire et si elle offre une image un peu idyllique de l'industrie porno, avec un studio où tous les acteurs travaillent dans une ambiance décontractée et forment une petite famille soudée (même si certains protègent leurs petits secrets).
Campy a toujours été mon petit chouchou de la bande, je ne sais pas vraiment pourquoi mais il m'intriguait énormément, j'avais donc très hâte de savoir ce que ce beau gosse cachait ! J'ai vraiment aimé découvrir Cameron et avoir les réponses à toutes mes questions, gay for pay, vraiment ??? C'est plus complexe que ça ouf ! Campy est une belle personne, tout simplement, mais ses secrets lui pèsent et il est parfois dévoré par ses incertitudes. Il m'a vraiment émue lors de certains passages et il méritait vraiment quelqu'un qui prenne soin de lui, et autant dire que son cow-boy venu tout droit du Texas est parfait pour remplir le rôle 😍 Aarrf Jackson et son accent du Sud, son physique viril forme un contraste charmant avec la politesse dont il fait preuve et l'innocence qu'il dégage. C'est un chou à l'âme romantique !
La relation qui se tisse entre ces deux hommes est toute mignonne, tendre tout en étant très sexy (un acteur porno et un cow-boy forcément cela met le feu...). Si Cam et Jackson sont rapidement très complices, il leur faudra forcément traverser quelques obstacles mais rien d'insurmontable, ils prendront leur temps... Le fait que Cam soit convaincu d'être hétéro n'est pas un des moindres, voilà un terrain miné, et j'ai vraiment apprécié comment cet aspect a été traité par les auteurs, cela sonne juste.
Evidemment, tous les Ballsy Boys sont de la fête et j'ai aimé les retrouver et revivre certaines scènes sous un autre angle. Les familles des héros sont aussi bien présentes et le lien que partage Cam avec sa maman m'a donné la larme à l'oeil.
Une lecture divertissante qui m'a donné le sourire, et je suis très impatiente d'avoir l'histoire de notre dernier Ballsy Boy, Pixie, le bébé de la bande ! Comme dans les autres tomes, les auteurs ne se gênent pas pour titiller notre curiosité avec des petits passages sympas. Notre ours grognon a du souci à se faire et il me tarde de voir comment Pixie va s'y prendre pour apprivoiser la bête 😂
