A short story given away for free as an incentive level in a kickstarter for Gaslight and Grimm, this book follows the feel of many of Jeff Young stories like Spirit Seeker and Fox Chase. Rich description with a grim undertone - hope and sadness - the start of industrialization amazing changes and the dirt and grime it brings. His voice is uniquely suited to Steampunk.

Unfortunately this is a far-future sci-fi fantasy story and the smeary lens which works so well in the Steampunk world doesn't match the crisp or dusty edges found in science fiction. At the end of the story I think I know what happened, but I am not sure.

Jeff Young has some amazing stuff out there, be sure to read it. But pass on this one.
