“That’s your new goal in life. Create some happy memories.”
“I already have,” she said softly. “Years from now, my stories will all have happy endings.”
“No matter what happens to me, you go on with your life. Promise me you’ll do all the things you dreamed about, Remy.”
“I don’t know how to fix us or make things right,” she said.
“Some things can’t be fixed. Sometimes you have to start over.”
"I’ve spent a decade loving Shane and I hope I get to spend many more decades loving him. Someday we’ll get to tell our children the story of Shane and Remy and it will be an epic story with a happy ending."
“You have a Mona Lisa smile,” he said a few minutes later.
I turned my head to look at him. “What does that mean?”
“Mysterious. Hard-won. It makes me want to do just about anything to see your smile.”
“I get the feeling you don’t usually have to work that hard.”
“I get the feeling you’re worth it.”
It was that fucking tragic. I had fallen for a girl who was too young for me. A girl who was tragic and beautiful and broken. She fucked with my head, got under my skin, and changed the tempo of my heartbeat.
“Tell me a secret.”
“I’ve wanted to kiss you since the minute I saw you.”
“That’s not a secret.”
His lips curved into a smile. “No?”
“No. So obvious.”
“The world was so cold and lonely without you.”
“Firefly. I’m here. Right beside you.”
“Do you know what a Siren is in Greek mythology?”
“Tell me.”
“A Siren is an enchantress who lures the sailor with her voice…”
“And what happens to the sailor?”
“He shipwrecks on the rocky coast.”
“I’ll never sing for you, Sailor. I don’t want to destroy you. I just want to love you.”
“I was destroyed the first time I ever saw your face, Firefly.”
