She travels to the Scottish Highlands only to sell the estate of Ardbeag, but when Stirling James suggests Rob Ogilvy of Lochgarron as a possible buyer, her plans begin to unravel. Rob believes the scandalous English widow has set her wicked sights on his nephew. But after only one masked encounter with her, he determines to make her his own. Then thieves strike, threatening everyone and everything in their ruthless search for Bonnie Prince Charlie’s legendary treasure. Mary Lancaster is a USA Today bestselling author of historical fiction and historical romance. She lives in Scotland with her husband, one of three grown-up kids, and a small dog with a big personality.
Her first literary love was historical fiction, a genre which she relishes mixing up with romance and adventure in her own writing. Several of her novels feature actual historical characters as diverse as Hungarian revolutionaries, medieval English outlaws, and a family of eternally rebellious royal Scots. To say nothing of Vlad the Impaler. Her most recent books are light fun Regency romances, with occasional forays into Victorian mystery.
This was a delightful quick read in which the marriage maker is at it again:) Henrietta is a widow and has no intention of ever marrying again...that is until she meets Robert and it's instant attraction! As passions flare, there is the mystery of the Bonnie Prince Charlie’s legendary treasure in which thieves are causing havoc, trying to get to it.
I thought the story was well written, although it all seemed rushed due to being a novella and not a full novel but still enjoyable.

Robert Ogilvy of Lochgarron was going to a ball. A masked ball at least and would try to deter his sister's stepson away from his amorous intentions to a widow. According to his sister he needed to come back to England and marry a heiress! Him, a ball? Not likely but he would do it since it was being put on by his friends The Duke and Duchess of Roxburgh and try to help his sister. Etta, Lady Derwent, widow was attending the same ball and was the lady that was being pursued by the stepson. She had decided to attend since she had business to conduct in selling an estate not far from the event. Of course when he met Etta, he thought she was beautiful and then he made short work of the stepson. I truly enjoyed this short novella. Anything Mary Lancaster writes is always a must read and this was no exception. The Marriage Maker stories are enchanting and this one delightful. Not to be missed to see their journey to a happy ever after!

Loved this book! It's got all the parts it needs in a compact, wonderfully written ADULT Romance💕! It's a page turner! Kudos to author Lancaster📚!
Novellas can suffer from any number of problems because of their short space. The typical faux pas is the dreaded information dump meant to catch readers up quickly. Bad idea, but many authors seem to take this shortcut. This happened to some extent here but was certainly not as bad as I've often seen. However, this book did suffer one of the major faults of novellas: pacing problems. Pacing has to be tight and on point in a novella, and this book suffered from both exceedingly slow pacing at the very beginning and far too fast pacing afterward. Honestly, I was feeling like not much had happened beyond the setup of the storyline and the initial meeting of the couple when I looked down and noticed that I was already 18% through the story! By that point, much more should have happened. Then things went at a breakneck, and frankly unbelievable, pace after that, as if the author was specifically trying to keep it novella length even if the story and characterization suffered. The instalust was fast in this book, and they acted on it nearly as fast. Because of these issues with the pacing, I don't feel like I can recommend this book.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
I have read numerous books written by Mary Lancaster and have always enjoyed them. I would say this is a short novella, being less than 100 pages long, but it is still very good. Due to the shortness of the book, the attraction escalated quickly and the characters were not able to be as developed as one could expect from a full-length novel. That should not keep anyone from reading this though. I really liked Etta and as can be found in historical England, all of the rumors and misconceptions that swirled around her due to her being an attractive widow were nothing like her true character as Rob will discover since he is sent to stop a supposed liaison that is about to commence between his nephew and Etta. Now he is determined to make Etta his wife - if he can only convince her that marriage can be good! There is a bit of a mystery but also due to the shortness of the book, it is not well developed. I liked this short book a lot!

Lady Henrietta (“Etta”) Derwent travels to Scotland after the death of her husband. She inherited an estate there and hopes to sell it since she does not intend to live in Scotland. The Duke of Roxburgh, Sir Stirling James, suggested Robert Ogilvy might be interested in purchasing the estate since his property was next to hers.
Robert Ogilvy, Lord Lochgarron, goes to a masked ball to find the widow his sister believes is leading his nephew astray. Dancing while masked, Lord Lochgarron and Lady Derwent have an immediate attraction, although Lady Derwent has no intention of marrying again. He begins to feel that he wants her for himself! When Lady Derwent’s life is threatened by villains who are trying to find a treasure of Jacobite gold rumored to be at the estate, Lord Lochgarron saves her and the two are married soon after.
This book moved at an almost uncomfortable pace which made it difficult to find much of it believable. The quick change of opinions and actions just didn’t seem to follow my expectations. However, the story line was interesting and kept my attention.
This is the first book I have ready by Mary Lancaster, and I enjoyed it very much! Keep in mind this is a novella, so things do progress a bit more quickly and character development is not as defined. But that does not take away from the charm of the story. It's a well written story with a great storyline and charming and endearing characters. It also has a bit of adventure and mystery sprinkled in, which only adds to its appeal. The story flows very nicely and is a delightful read which will keep you interested and engaged till the end. I am glad I picked this one up!

- Rob Ogilvy deceived Lady Etta at a masked ball due to a wrongful rumor. Sparks flew. - Etta had invited 'Ogilvy' to meet about property but, when Rob arrives, she doesnt know he is the masked man who kissed her. - Rob convinces Etta to tour property with him the following day and their attraction grows. ** By days end, Rob wants to marry her...
Sorry, the mystery didnt compensate for the lack of development of characters, physical attraction, and plausible emotional connection. 2 stars
Having read and enjoyed a few of the other books in this series, I had high hopes for this book and was not disappointed. It had a great storyline, terrific characters, and relied upon adventure/danger instead of angst as a plot driver. Yay for that. Carpe diem, friendship, trust, sexism, courage, dignity, hope, and love were some of the underlying themes in this yummy tale.
I received a free copy of Widow’s Treasure, but that did not affect my review.
It will charm you if given the chance. A widow who wants to stay as far away from another marriage and a scot who wants her let the games begin. This quick well-written tale was so entertaining I almost wish there had been more as I was enjoying myself so much reading this story. This first-rate quickie will charm you if given the chance I hope you pick it up. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

A widow but discriminate in any man she would have dalliance with is her true discretion! Henrietta loved her first husband and kept mistresses until his demise! Rob is a devoted land owner and not looking for forever! Trouble arrives in a search for treasure! The true treasure is love!
Widow's Treasure: The Marriage Maker and the Widows is a quick and entertaining historical romance.
I really liked this story about the insta-love between Etta and Robert. There is also danger, suspense, thieves, treasure, villians, and intrigue to enjoy.
This was a short story and fast paced. It was well written and included some intrigue, drama, romance and plenty of twists and turns. The characters were not as well developed as they would be in a longer book, but that is the norm for short books. Overall it was a good read.

A good romantic thriller that moves along quickly and has lots of action. Henrietta is enjoying her widowhood but she does have principals. She takes Rob to task about his attitude because, he really has no right to be judgmental. Etta has character and their chemistry sparkles.
A masquerade ball, a family obligation, a chance meeting and villains....Quick, fun, cleverly written and endearing with a surpise at the end. Well done!

I liked Henrietta & Robert's story. Good characters. Well written. This was a quick, fun read. And a new author for me. I received a free copy of the book. And am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
The first two times H kissed h felt like assault. And I couldn't stand Mrs Ross - the housekeeper - who behaved like the queen. The h was a total pushover when it came to her and the H.
Another delightful book in the Match Maker series. Although part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone. The books in this series have all been pretty quick reads.
