The twisted and intriguing storytelling that you loved in Consequences and Infidelity continues with an all-new alpha anti-hero in the dark romance series Web of Sin, by New York Times bestselling author Aleatha Romig.

I am...

That’s no longer an easy statement.

Who am I?

Since Sterling Sparrow, a man so handsome he takes my breath away and so infuriating he pushes me in ways I’ve never known, came barreling into my life like a category five hurricane, I can’t even finish that simple statement.

In twenty-six years I’ve lived three lives—been three different people.

Renee. Kennedy. And now, Araneae.

They say that I was named after the spider to make me resilient.

Sparrow would then be a bird.

Birds eat spiders.

I prefer to consider myself a cat. It ups my chance of surviving the world I’m now living.

Maybe that’s only wishful thinking because according to Sterling, my number of lives is running out.

There are people who want to harm me, to learn the secrets they claim that I possess.

The only person to offer me protection is Sterling Sparrow.

Can I trust a man who willingly put me in the sight of danger?

What is real?

What are lies?

Have you been Aleatha’d?

Lies is book two of the Web of Sin trilogy to be read after Secrets.

This series just keeps getting better. I loved getting pieces of the past and trying to put together what happened. Araneae is testing her limits with Sterling and he is just as alpha as ever. Of course the ending leaves you wanting more.. I am so ready for Promises.

“You’re gorgeous on your knees.”

Another sexy, seductive, and thrilling installment to Aleatha Romig’s Web of Sin series! Just when you think this dark and angsty game of cat and mouse is coming to a head, you turn the corner and find yourself in another web of lies, deception, and secrets. Lies, the second book in this delicious dark romance series, may be bringing Sterling and Araneae closer together, but it’s also bringing about more twists and turns than ever before. I absolutely loved it! I’m not even sure I blinked the whole damn time I was reading. It’s simply unputdownable, but that is always the case when Aleatha takes us to the dark side.

--------------------------------------------Enjoy ------------------------

ღ A compelling story line, a trilogy, good characters, twisted & intriguing storytelling , mystery, naked truth a Sexy Alpha hero & gorgeous heroine, romance, & suspense. All a girl needs? I could leave you with just that, but I am not that mean

➳ The story started where it last one finished thank god. With Araneae living in Sterling tower. This book going to question what is Lies & what is the truth

➳ Kennedy Hawkins/Araneae McCrie Out of tragedy she found triumph or has she? What’s a women do when you find out that you aren’t who you thought you were?

➳I can only imagine that Kennedy Hawkins/Araneae McCrie head is spinning by now. To say that this book is complicated is putting it mildly. For one women to live two identities & not lose her insanity is pure miracle

She runs Sinful Threads by day as Kennedy Hawkins & by night she is Araneae McCrie , & Sterling Sparrow is telling her that she is the queen of the underworld of Chicago.
I was not able to put this one down, I knew that the book was coming to close. As it was I was thinking I hope like hell Aleatha Romig will later write about Patrick & Reid in their own books

I also love the backstory of Araneae's mom. And what it is leading up to

My mind is still in a spin after that cliffy ending. What will Kennedy do in the next book after what she just found out?

➳Question that lies ahead in the next book is: Will Kennedy /Araneae still trust Sterling Sparrow?….Will she still give him the benefit of the doubt? Or will she do something unthinkable? Only time will tell

💕 I will definitely read the next one. I’ll be on Pin & needle…….

➳ I need the next book

Araneae McCrie is a 26 yr. old woman who is slowly unraveling the veil the lies she’s been told her entire life. She never knew her birth parents and has lived three different lives as three different identities. She’s finally learning more about her past, but still isn’t completely sure who to trust. She knows there are people out there that want to harm her, and she’s surrounded by money, power, and secrets. Through the chaos her one constant has been the man she’s come to care deeply for, Sterling Sparrow. He’s intense, possessive, controlling, overwhelming, and infuriating, but he’s the one person she knew would always protect her. He was overprotective and domineering, but made her feel cherished and adored. He was devoted to her and her safety. When he was near, he stole her breath and made her heart race. She burned with the all consuming desire she felt for this beautiful complicated man.

-I knew one thing. I wanted to trust Sterling Sparrow.

-Everything with Sterling Sparrow was unique.

-His grin did things to me I couldn't describe.

-Every nerve in my body, every synapse in my brain, was focused on the one man who did things to me I'd only read about.

-From the depths of my soul, I knew this powerful man needed what only I could give.

Sterling Sparrow was promised Araneae McCrie at 13, and he’s wanted her ever since. Now she was finally his, and had become a part of his dangerous world. He felt she was where she belonged, which was by his side. He was the king that ran Chicago, and she was his queen. Together they would be unstoppable. She pushed his buttons like no other woman ever had, and made him feel things he didn’t know were possible.

Lies is book two in the Web of Sin trilogy. It’s a delicious dark romance full of suspense, intrigue, mystery and passion. Sterling and Araneae are left to pick up the pieces and uncover the secrets from the generation before them. I love this series so much, and am absolutely obsessed with Sterling Sparrow!!! ❤️

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

-Araneae McCrie was made for me.

-She was the most beautiful sight I'd ever seen.

-Araneae brought out something in me that I'd never nurtured, never cared to cultivate. Tenderness and caring didn't work in my world, now her world too.

-Though I'd been told since I was thirteen that Araneae belonged to me, nothing could have prepared me for what it was like to have her in my life. She was all I ever wanted and more: intelligent, motivated, resilient, sexy, sensual, sassy, opinionated, and outspoken. Being with her was what I'd never known was possible.

5 “The Web Continues to Grow” Stars

The second book in the Web of Sin trilogy did not disappoint. It started where Secrets left off and while we got some much needed answers, it it was still packed full of more secrets and more lies. I loved every minute of this delicious, suspenseful, intriguing, sexy ride.

As this tangled web gets more convoluted, trust becomes key to survival. Araneae gets immersed into Sterling’s life. Patrick, Reid and Lorna are all a package deal with Sterling and she must trust them. She has her own family with Silk Thread but secrets have come between them. The past and the present are all beginning to collide in Araneae’s life and she must figure out who to trust, who is telling lies and who is telling truths. Will all the Secret and Lies eventually lead to a Promise of Love for Araneae and Sterling?

I throughly enjoyed getting the story to Araneae’s past. It intrigued me as well as left me wanting to know more. The intersection of Araneae and Sterling’s past opens up to a more clearer picture but there are still many more questions and answers I need to know!!!

I love the twist and turns this author puts her readers through. Nothing is straight forward. When you think you know the direction the story, BAM, she throws a huge wrench into the story and takes you on a detour. Your mind is constantly working and trying to figure out rights and wrongs. I’m suspicious of everyone and everything.

This book also ends in a cliffhanger but it sets up the fireworks of the past and the present that will explode in the last book of the series. Will Sterling’s devotion to keep Araneae safe be his downfall? Can she really trust the man when he still keeps secrets from her? Will Araneae be able to handle the truth of her past when she finds out how dark and sinister all the players are? All I know is that the last book in the trilogy, PROMISES, to be epic!!

As secrets are being uncovered and lies are being revealed, Araneae and Sterling are being drawn closer and their chemistry is burning hotter. I can't get enough of Sterling and his commands, demands and orders. I'm not sure if I'd tolerate his behavior in real life, but dang does the author make it work in this story!

Can. Not. Get. Enough. Of. Him!!

Here's the thing: as much as I'm enjoying the heck out of this trilogy, this particular book had Araneae rubbing me the wrong way. I'll tell you why. Hypothetically speaking, if you knew that your life was in danger and the one person who you believed meant you harm actually protected you against said danger, would you learn to trust them? And if your life was again put in jeopardy and this same person ONCE AGAIN moved mountains to ensure your health and safety, would you learn to trust them? I think if this person, over and over again, was shown to put my interests and life before their own, I would give them the benefit of the doubt. I really think I would. Because the other players in this game I know nothing about have shown me nothing to make me feel safe and the threat seems mad real.

But that's just me. The stakes are high and the coast is no war near clear. Sterling and Araneae have to navigate through the swarming snakes to find their version of happy. There are still a lot of secrets and lies that need to be let out and explained and I'm looking forward to the promises that will be made. Who will be making these promises? Will these promises be allowed to be kept? And will this chick finally catch a clue??? I'm staying tuned and I hope you are too!!

The suspense and intrigue continues with Lies. There's more mystery, more heat, and more Sterling Sparrow to dominate your pounding heart. What a deliciously hot Dark Romance!
January 29, 2019
“Never in my entire life had I met anyone as exasperating, infuriating, or as maddening as Sterling Sparrow. He set off my last nerve, pushing me like I’d never been pushed. The way he’d stared at me when he’d first entered the kitchen made me feel as though he needed me. He’d done something—something I would probably never know—and I was his relief or maybe reward. I wasn’t sure exactly what I was, other than in that moment I believed that he saw me in the way a person saw the one he cared about.
He needed what I could give.”

“Araneae, I’ll never leave you alone, never again. You’re mine. I’m yours and that means that through it all, the secrets, lies, and promises, we’re a team. I hope that after you learn more about yourself and about me, you won’t see me as the monster I’m capable of being.”

4 “still wondering all the secrets” stars!

Spoiler free review but it will be hard!

First thing first: this is the sequel of Secrets and is meant to be read after Secrets.

Second this is Aleatha turning dark so not her sweet and light side.

Third you have a huge *yes you can interpret this as you want 😉* overbearing and commanding Alpha Sterling Sparrow.

We ended secrets with a cliffy and of course we will end Lies …with a cliffy! Again.

The good news is that Aleatha don’t need years to publish her books and you’ll have the last installment in the series very soon as in about one month!

What’s happening here?

Aranea/Kennedy tries to learn more about her past while staying safe and managing a very bossy Sterling.

Honestly Sterling would drive me nuts with his orders and will to manage everything yet Aranea holds her ground and give him a run for his money! I have to concede that Sterling is trying.

He so wants to keep her in a gilded cage and I could feel his frustration through my Kindle when he had to concede something to Aranea. They butt heads, they fight and then they melt. Great make up sex is also on the program of course because isn’t it how it works with every couple on the planet?

Even billionaire dark boys are no exception.

Life becomes complicated as Aranea has two identities and one of them even does not exist as she officially died as an infant! When her past and present worlds collide it becomes tricky and she is walking on eggshells!

Better for her than for me mind you! I would never know which name I am supposed to use. Leading a double life is exhausting when you are not used to it and Aranea has to learn the ropes.

I also asked Aleatha if she planned on writing shifter stories because Sterling, Patrick and Reid are all a pack of wolves and Sterling is their Alpha!
“We joke and laugh. We even grieve, but at the end of the day, in a pack there’s only one alpha. That’s your man.”

As Aranea said it’s like they share one brain!
“It was like all three of them shared a brain. What one knew, the other two did also.”

So you have threats, you have secrets, you have lies, you have horrible truths about the underground, you have plots and everyone tries to manipulate and blackmail Aranea!

She would have a really hard time if not for Sterling’s support. Among all the past tragedies and deceit it was heartwarming to witness their blossoming attachment. I swear they are cute together. Hot yes but cute LOL. Because Sterling planned her “acquisition” and she was meant to be an asset in his plan (yet to be wholly revealed) but she turned out to be so much more to him!

Araneae was important to us all. We’d planned her acquisition together. They knew how imperative having her with us was for many reasons. Up until recently, the plan and execution had all been in theory. However, now that she was with us, we all saw her light. How could we not?

I was not able to put it down as I wanted to learn more about the mystery surrounding Aranea’s past. What did het father do? What vital information is she supposed to hold? Who is Sterling Sparrow really? What’s his game in the underground. Who were her adoptive parents? Are they still alive? Why did her adoptive mother send Aleatha to Colorado? What event triggered this change of plans? And a I am still wondering about her friend Louisa and her family. I find a little bit too convenient and coincidental that they adopted Kennedy right away and …. But OK maybe that’s the “Aleatha’s effect” and she is turning me into an FBI agent doubting everything!

Recommend it? Of course!

Oh and funny side effect: I had my husband read this sentence from the book: “How hard was it to move a dish and glass from the counter to the dishwasher? Apparently, if you possessed a Y chromosome, the answer was impossible.”

And victory! He put his dish in the dishwasher!!! I should make him read my books more often LOL

Have you read this series?
Thanks for reading!

LIES has it ALL--twists, turns, intrigue, and a whole lot of SEXY! Get ready to lose a day because you won't be able to put this book down!

Sterling Sparrow continues to be the stubborn, asshole alpha we fell in love with in LIES. He's doing everything he can to control Araneae, his feisty love, but don't worry--that smart, sassy businesswoman fights right back, and the sparks that fly between these two might set your Kindle on fire... lol!

LIES picks up right where SECRETS left off, and it draws you deeper into this story, this web of intrigue... So much more is learned as we're drawn deeper into this Chicago underworld, as we learn more about Araneae's past... I confess, I even shed a little tear. eek! It's so much fun to read.

Fans of Aleatha's Infidelity series are going to LOVE this so much. I can't wait to snuggle up with the sexy conclusion...

4 „You are safe“ Stars.

Characters & Chemistry

We are back in Chicago and things have changed for Kennedy Hawkins/Araneae McCrie is trying to adjust to her life in her golden gilded cage. Her life is planned out for her now. She runs Sinful Threads by day and by night she is the near queen of the underworld of Chicago.

This is what I wrote in book one about our heroine

I really liked Kennedy. She is strong, sassy, and has a backbone of steel however she always puts others over her well-being. There were times where I was screaming at her internally of course I don’t want people to think that I am nuts.

I still like Kennedy/Araneae. She is strong and sassy but I felt as if her backbone of steel was deteriorating fast in this book. I know she is adjusting to her situation but she seems to go along with nearly everything. I was still internally screaming at the woman but all for the sake of protection I felt as if she was giving up a piece of herself bit by bit. On top of that I really cannot see what Sparrow finds so darn appealing about her. Just saying.

This is what I wrote in book one about the hero

There were times I loved Sterling and others where I hated them. He trusted only two people in his life. He wanted what had always belong to him and that promise he made a long time ago. It was a conscious choice that he made. He had his standards, his dominating ways.  This pretty much hasn’t changed tbh.

There was more sex in the book here which is alright because it didn’t take away from the overall story but I do wish that instead of bonking their brains out they would have built on a word everybody knows called communication. With these two it was virtually non-existent.

Writing, Plot & Pace

If there is one thing that this author can do, then it is write and I mean write. It was hook, line and sinker for me from the 30% mark onwards although I wasn’t convinced at the beginning. I mean in a way it fells so far-fetched. It is still captivating, I soaked up every moment of this book. There were still emotions and still feels here but not a lot really happens. We know that Araneae is supposed to have some information from 26 years ago but can harm the underworld of Chicago and has all the major players running scared but what kind of evidence?

There are flashbacks to past of Araneae’s birth mother and her birth father and what really happened we as the readers find this out but I mean how the others are going to find that information out.

Verdict
Still good. Still a cliffhanger. Araneae now has a choice to make. Will she be like her birth mother what is to happen?

Oh wow, this series is getting better and better, and that is saying something because the first book already blew my mind... but Lies?

As Araneae gets more revelations, the web of Lies also tightens around her. She eventually learns more about her family and yet the well of intricate secrets seems bottomless. Aleatha Romig is a queen when it comes to writing amazing and suspenseful plots. Lies feels like a strategy game you would play blind. Who are your adversaries? Their end game? What are even the rules? The board itself would be evoluting with each move. Can you feel the hopelessness of the situation?
“There’s a lot I don’t know,” I went on . “What I do know for sure is that since I’ve met you, my world has gone crazy.”

Araneae must adapt to her new life at Sterling's home; intensity and fights will punctuate their days (and nights!). Between her feisty personnality and his domineering ways, the sparks are flying, for my greatest enjoyment! I absolutely loved their chemistry and their magnificence.
"I won’t apologize for the reality of how it is because the payoff is worth it.”“Is it?” I asked. “Are you sure?”

Lies is a rollercoaster or a dance with highs and lows, acceleration and slower passages, abrupts twists and dizzying turns that will let you hanging over a dark precipice.  The question is: is Aleatha Romig going to let us free fall into madness in the next book, Promises? I can't wait to find out.
"You like to push me? My smile grew. I’m going to push back."

I VOLUNTARILY REVIEWED AN ARC COPY OF THIS BOOK. THANK YOU!!!

You guys!! I have just been Aleatha’d again!!! Lies was absolutely phenomenal! It was sexy, intense and so full of twists and turns it made my head spin. I am legit obsessed with Araneae and Sterling and their intense connection!! I never wanted this book to end! And what an ending!! OMG - Promises can't come soon enough!

I thought Secrets was incredible but I could not believe how much more I loved Lies. This series just gets better and better as not only is the chemistry between Araneae and Sterling combustible, but the growing mystery and intrigue has my mind racing. Without giving away any spoilers, after that shocking ending in Secrets, we now know who Araneae is and the reason why danger is following her at every turn and what exactly Sterling will do to protect her. But with another OMG cliffy I can't wait to see what happens in Promises!!

Gah!! I am so addicted to this series!! It just keeps blowing my mind as more secrets and revelations are coming out from Araneae's past and the reason why she was forced into hiding. Romig does a fantastic job in constantly whetting our appetite for more as she drops juicy tidbits in mindblowing fashion, while further developing the emotional connection between Sterling and Araneae. I am enthralled and consumed and can't wait for more! Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula

This series is awesome !!!

I m luving this series so much. Lies is the second book in this trilogy. It's just as good as the first book. The story started where the last one finished thank god. That cliffy was a killer I was dying for this book and it was brilliant.

Free Image Hosting at FunkyIMG.com

Araneae and Sterling's story is getting so intense. I thought it mite if slowed down just a little bit not a chance this book is just as crazy. Araneae still doesn't really now what is right and wrong or what's lies and the truth. There are just so many secrets goin on it hard for her to keep up with. But for me it's just great. I really like Araneae she is so sassy stubborn and strong. Even when she is confused she still holds her own when Sterling is being his strong alpha self she stands up to him. She has been independent for to long to let this crazy sexy guy stop her from doin things. But there connection even in a short space of time is just getting stronger and stronger. But there is still that small bit of doubt that's is he telling her the truth.

Free Image Hosting at FunkyIMG.com

I 'll say it again Sterling is amazing. Yes he is annoying and bossy but he has his reasons. Living in the world he has been brought into isn't easy and in this book we do find out more. There is still so much more to know about him and Araneae. But it's hard to fall for this sexy men. He really is becoming one of my favourites. The way he protects Araneae is great I know it annoys her but there is reason for him being like this. There connection is so hot and they are just so good together. Araneae does mellow him out in some ways and he needs it. He has been too guy for a while he needs his but if sunshine.

Free Image Hosting at FunkyIMG.com

I m dying for more of this series. Again the way this book finished has killed me. Why why why does it have to end there I was so into the story i didn't even think the end was near than bang it's over. Lucky I luv my kindle and wouldn't throw it. I luv this authors writing she just knows how to get hooked into the story. I get sucked into her books every time. I would highly recommend this book. You do need to read Secrets first but you won't be disappointed Sterling and Araneae story is amazing. I m on the edge of my seat throughout the whole thing can't wait for the final part.

Lies..lies..lies everywhere, who to believe and who's lying ?
The jury is still out because as is true with book two in a trilogy, the story progressed but towards an unknown destination and even though you know more than book 1, you still don't know enough to justify any characters' actions.
Araneae McCrie is stuck in a spider's web of lies and deceit.
Somehow, unimaginably, I had become a woman who’d been sucked into a world she didn’t understand.
Like Alice In Wonderland she has fallen down the rabbit hole with tumbles and hits that just keep on coming. Meanwhile Sterling Sparrow is hypnotising her with his amazing sex appeal and charming model like good looks. Against her better judgement she's falling, and falling fast.
I liked navigating narrow passageways of power corridors, I liked turning blind corners expecting to bump into something new or someone from the dead and buried past, I liked the adrenaline rush this book rode on.
Out of characters, Sterling is still an enigma, along with Patrick and Reid, he's keeping things close to his chest while his priority at all times is safety of his girl-Araneae
Of Araneae/Kennedy, she's being over protected and feeling trapped, even though Sparrows love is a warm cocoon and his home an infra red castle, she's feeling restless.
I'll wait for book 3 eagerly now !!

A brilliant story from a masterful mind. This series isn't called Web of Sin for nothing.
Be ready for Sterling, because I'm here to tell you, that if you thought book one tilted your mind. Sent it into a tailspin. You haven't read anything yet.
Once again, I've been Athean'd, and it was well worth blowing my mind.

Well oh well…like sand through an hourglass… So are the days of Sterling and Araneae. These two are meant for each other. They truly are <3 I love the way they both care so much for each other.

However, is the caring and loving a truthful relationship or as the title suggests, are they all Lies? I so much want to believe that what we are going through with this couple is a good relationship ready to move on to their next step…

But with all the players lining up and each player having a different story or version of what they believe or what they say happened so long ago…
Who exactly is telling the truth?

Bring on Promises (Web of Sin #3) the final book in this fantastic series! I’m ready to find out who I need to shank so that the truth is revealed!!! Surely not everyone is lying just to gain from hurting Araneae.

I’ve truly enjoyed reading this series and cannot wait for the conclusion! I’ve totally been Aleatha’d 😊

3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Stars! Wasn’t impressed with this one, I did a lot of skimming. I hate that! I’m really trying to like the heroine Araneae, she’s such a pain. Ugh! And the assistant, since when does assistant talk back to their boss like Winnie did, she annoyed the shit out of me. I’m trying to give the benefit of the doubt here and push on to the final book hopefully it will be better than this one

5, OMG! Give Me MORE, Stars!!

“I don’t always do what’s best–sometimes it’s downright wrong. But I do what I believe is right for the sake of those involved. That includes you.”

Lies is the epic second book in the Web of Sin Series and will leave you spellbound right until the very end. Just like in the first book, Lies hits the ground running and takes you on another crazy ride. Questions will be answered. Chemistry will be off the charts. Questions will once again be asked and in the end you won’t know what’s up or what’s down.

I loved seeing all the puzzle pieces come together through the web of lies and deception. And just as we are given answers and things are finally starting to make sense, we’re through for another loop that will leave us begging for more. Lies is sexy, smart and utterly delicious. It’s filled with lies and truths, twists and turns.

There is so much I wish I could say, but I just can’t!!! Ugh! You’ll just have to take my word for it and trust me when I say this a ride you won’t want to miss out on. I thoroughly enjoyed this book from begging to end. I was once again hooked from the very first page and just could not put this book down. I was completely and utterly glued to Sterling & Araneae’s story. And man! That ending!! All I’m gonna say is that Aleatha Romig sure knows how to leave us dangling and dying for more. I can not wait to get my hands on Promises and see just how this story is going to unravel. For now, I’ll just be sitting here counting down the minutes until we all of our questions answered….

*I was provided an ARC copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review*

...And it all comes tumbling down, cause I'm bored, and I can't, carry on (set to the tune of the ants go marching), but alas I digress. Lies is a classic case of 'I want to like this so much more then I do.' I left Secrets feeling moderately entertained; and on the tail of that cliffhanger - with hopes that the story might finally start to show some action. And then we entered Lies, and it was like Secrets reset itself but with less sexy and less plot.

It's a shame, and I'll be sure to disclaimer; I'm not looking for world building or copious multi-facet plotlines intertwined with deceptive narratives, no, not at all, I'm just looking for a little drama with my loivin'. At the start Romig is all set to deliver; poisoned in the elevator Sparrow carries Araneae to safety in the dark of the night. I was like yes! Call the doctor, real in your men Sparrow, take care of your girl! The first chapters really hit it for me, especially finally getting a chance to see through Sparrow's eyes and glimpse a little into what he's trying to do. And then Araneae wakes up, starts to move around and anything remotely interesting falls by the wayside along with her discarded robe. So what happens next? Sparrow is protective, Araneae feels trapped, rinse and repeat. At first it makes sense - no Araneae, you can't leave the house, people are trying to kill you (for an overly contrived reason that doesn't make that much sense if you stare directly into it - like the sun - so use sunglasses and glance at the edges and you'll be fine). No Araneae, your hand can't key to the garage because you can't go anywhere without me, because life is dangerous. Yes Araneae, I'll let you keep your business, but I'll decide when you can have internet access or your phone so work will be limited. On and On. Now Sparrow's controlling nature, while not for everyone, is not a problem in and of itself, but it needs something to back it up. Show us a problem Romig! If Sparrow is a part of a dangerous Underworld after Araneae then show us the bad men!, Where are the guns and the attempted kidnappings? Where are any of the potential threats that Sparrow is so paranoid about?!? Literally all Sparrow and Araneae do is fight over the garage passcode and then make up. Sparrow promises to fill her in on her not so interesting past and then somehow manages to avoid ever speaking about it. By half way through I wanted to pull my hair out from want of something to happen.

And then Sparrow finally lets Araneae return to work (using Patrick's palm mind you). The day she actually puts on work clothes I jumped for joy and threw a party. I did actually start to enjoy this part, it was nice to see her separate from Sparrow, hanging with Patrick and actually being a character with a personality and a life aside from Sparrow. I also sadly got my hopes up thinking (silly me, trix are for kids) that some of the drama I've been looking for would appear in the form of shady co-workers or someone coming after her business (after all we had the issue with inventory back in the very beginning that still hasn't satisfactorily been solved). But nope, she goes to work, she gets overwhelmed by her double life, all the while Sparrow 'sees' trouble in the wind (metaphorical trouble as far as anyone can actually tell - since nothing has happened) and contrives to cause problems by being overbearing without anything to back up his reasoning.

And then 20 pages from the end here comes the classic Romig cliffhanger, out of left wing without justification - remember that guy will left back in book 1? Well he's not what he seems, insert complete new characterization, he's here to confuse you Araneae and make you question everything you DON'T understand, because Sparrow hasn't explained it, and conveniently continue the story once again. Well fool me once Romig, shame on you, fool me twice, well you won't because I'm on to your game. Nothing's going to happen in Promises either (even though you've clearly promised) so I'm going to quit while I'm ahead (and still have money left on my gift card).

And wait, before I let this rest, I would be remiss if I didn't also mention the newly added 3rd POV Annabelle. I liked the idea but the execution was poor. Oh yeah, so back to the beginning, remember when Araneae ran into her birth mother at the party all the way back in cliffhanger #1? Yeah it's hard to remember since Annabelle doesn't appear again except in flashback; which, while chock full of interesting information, why would you flashback a character who NEVER appears in the present?!?! What is her point except to provide the reader with information that hides the fact that Sparrow is sharing nothing. So while we have a better understanding of Araneae's background (not much mind you) Araneae knows diddily squat and STILL can't open the garage. Maddening, absolutely maddening!

Really what it boils down to is a lack of things for the characters to do, even though the plot would support a ton of drama. There is an underground. Sparrow is king of it, do we see it once? No. Does it come after Sparrow's girl? No. Does it matter? supposedly, but again no. Araneae is living a double life but does anyone really know? Nope. Do people from her past appear to question it? No. (and don't try and throw the aunt in there, 30 pages from the end can't save 300 previous pages). And do Sparrow and Araneae even have an interesting dynamic anymore? No. They tow this strange line between 'soulmates' and 'acquaintances.' Per Sparrow she's been his since he was 13 and he has watched over her, but their interactions are stilted and one-dimensional. He doesn't ever listen to her and yet she still finds herself falling in love. In love with what? The way he makes her feels? Whatever. They fight, they have sex, etc. I liked it better in Secrets when they attempted to spend time together ala ATVs versus hiding away/fighting about trouble that never materializes.

I actually wanted to like Lies. Truthfully Romig's writing isn't that bad, it just lacks substance. How about a crazy car accident or a chase by a man of the underground? How about any reason for Sparrow to actually use his protective instincts, because protection against nothing gripes on the nerves. I'm not stopping this series because I don't care (I actually am theoretically interested in a resolution) but because I already know what's going to happen. I know who's going to appear and how this cliffhanger is going change the not so dynamic dynamics of our leading couple. I know nothing will happen until at least two thirds through, and I'll even hedge a bet that the resolution/epilogue has Araneae finally getting her palm print on the garage security system. Thanks Romig, your predictability has saved me five dollars. I'll put it towards something better. ***2 predictable stars***

Ps. I didn't hide this for spoilers but you can't spoil what doesn't happen. Or does the double negative make a positive? Hmm, oh well, doesn't matter, the book is still boring.

Lies is the second book in the Web of Sin series. This book must be read after Secrets (book 1) as it is a continuing story.

This book is dark, it has a lot of suspense, but it is also very sexy.

I am still really unsure how I feel about Sterling. I don't really like the way he tells people what to do. He has a caring side. But he is also vicious.

The best part of this book for me was the last part. There were so many twists and turns. There was so much happening. I was completely riveted and could not put the book down.

I sort of love that the prologue to this book is the end of the first book. Sometimes it is hard to remember exactly how a previous book ends.

I really enjoyed this story. But I think one huge issue for me is that I don't love this couple. I am intrigued by the mystery. But I am less interested in the romance.

I am okay with unusual names. But I really dislike when names are difficult to pronounce or hard to remember. Both ways of saying the heroine's name are just too hard to remember. And the one Sterling calls her is just so weird.

The things I love about this series: 1) her friend Louisa and their company Sinful Threads, 2) the story with her mother, 3) Reid, Lorna and Patrick and the apartment, 4) the mystery of who is after her and what they think she knows, 4) the idea that everybody is lying.

Things I like less: Sterling and the way he acts. I feel like he does care about her. But I feel like he is a bad guy who has done many very bad things. I hate that he thinks that he owns her. And the way he orders her around is not my favorite.

But overall the story is addictive. And the end was so good. I am absolutely dying to know what happens next. What will A do? I need book three now!

YES! YES! YES! I can't get enough of this trilogy!!

Araneae and Sterling's story is so just OMG!! Aleatha really knows how to keep you right there at the edge of your seat the entire time.

Araneae is adapting to her new life at Sterling's home and well, with her explosive personality and his alpha ways, we'll just say that things are intense between them in all realms of their relationship.

Araneae is uncovering more and more secrets, all the while the lies continue to build. Aleatha is delivering one hell of a rollercoaster story and I have no clue where this will end. I love every freaking thing about this trilogy.

Once again, I am being very vague with the main plot because this book (this whole trilogy) has to be experienced first hand as you are reading. Aleatha is the queen of romantic suspense and I can not wait for the next book to see where the craziness ends.

Have you been Aleatha'd??

Lies gave me a headache with all the twists, turns and revelations.
Luckily,it had a lot of steam as well,to take my mind of everything…..
Araneae is still with Sparrow, and she likes being with him in spite of his behaviour at certain times.
And Sparrow is happy to have her, she’s his Sunshine, but he’s worried at the same time.
Because he feels he doesn’t deserve her,he’s not a good man.
He’s been honest with her, giving her more information about her life than she ever had.
And he shows her she has other people besides Louise and her family.
People that make her feel at home, that show they care.
With the world around them finding out she’s still alive, the threats arrive.
Her real parents’ history slowly comes to light in flashbacks.
But the threats, are they coming from her own uncle?
Is he behind the attempts on her life?
And what is wrong at the Chicago branch of Sinful Threads, her and Louise’s company?
Why do i get a bad feeling at Winnie being there?

Which leaves me with yet another cliffhanger…..
Onto Promises to get some answers!
