Previously published by Samhain Publishing Eloise Hamilton, the illegitimate daughter of a wealthy banker, knows that society ‘s doors will be closed to her. When Lord Richard Craven, heir to a dukedom, singles her out, she is flattered by the attention but harbours no false illusions about the outcome. Her neighbour, the formidable rakehell Harry Benson-Smythe, is not only suspicious of her high-born admirer but inexplicably jealous too. As Eloise and Harry work together to solve the mysterious abductions of local girls, the dark side of Richard’s character emerges and his true purpose becomes apparent. So too do Harry’s feelings for Eloise, which transcend the mere neighbourly. But Harry is engaged to another lady and, even if he were not, his father would never sanction a union with Eloise…
Wendy is an English author now dividing her time between Andorra and West Florida. She grew up on the Isle of Wight but now lives with her husband Andre and a rescued dog of indeterminate pedigree. She writes Regency romance, contemporary romance and a series of marine crime mysteries.
When not writing Wendy enjoys reading other people's books, walking miles with her dog, drinking decent wine and generally making the most of life.
An enjoyable, fast reading romance. With a slight variation, instead of the leading figures being early adversaries, we have two people that have always liked each other, but have always known their lives would be as close friends only. Villainy is on the horizon and touches both lives, so this adds some mystery and tensions to the story.
A pleasant read for the beach or that next air flight.
I really enjoyed this tale of a beautiful, free spirited, feisty and loving hellion named Eloise. Harry is her neighbor and rescuer. Eloise is illegitimate but loved by her father and that puts her in a bad light with her half-sister. Eloise knows she will have no season, marriage or children and will live with her dad. Eloise loves deeply and her father, Harry, Molly (her horse), Jacob (her dog) and new addition Patch are her world. Harry must marry to raise his family higher into the ton. Evil is around Eloise and only Harry can save her. This story has one element that I don't think I have read in any other book. Harry's dad, Sir Henry, actually is a great dad. He is compassionate and loving to all of his family and even Eloise. I would of like some more steamy and hot scenes but I really liked this book. I give it 3 fingers up and 7 toes.
