Furry United Coalition #7

'Roo and the Angel

Rate this book
What idiot decided to make the Jones boys official agents with a license to FUC?

Jeb did something bad. And no, he didn’t murder anyone—recently. Nor did he put itching powder in his brother’s jockstrap—again. He did, however, smuggle a test subject out of an experimental lab against FUC orders.

In his defense, he saved an angel.

At least that is how Jeb sees Nevaeh with her shadow wings. She’s a maiden in need of rescue and a sweet girl—until you get on her bad side. Then things get really interesting—and violent. Which might be kind of why FUC is so interested in getting their paws on her. And don’t get him started on ASS shaking its tail feathers, too.

Everyone wants a piece of his angel. Know what he says? Too bad. So sad. Because this stubborn ’roo has decided he wants her as his mate.

‘Roo and the Angel by Eve Langlais

Furry United Coalition book 7. Light humorous paranormal romance.

Can be read as a stand-alone. I’ve read the first book but none of the ones in between and didn’t have an issues following the story. It did make me want to go back and meet some of the characters and read their stories.
There does seem to be a lot of overlap and similarities between series by the author. That’s okay with me. I’m reading for the humor and escapism this author is so good at.

The audible version was fantastic. I loved the male Australian accent. He did a good job transitioning between characters and his voice was filled with emotion.
The version I listened to did have half a dozen editing errors in track 17.

Lots of innuendo and silliness.
A selfie! Too funny. Yes, superficial but romance and happily ever after.

Holy lizard on a hot plate!

I love this series. It gets better and better. This is Jeb and Nevaeh's story and holy lizards lol what a story. It's got all a great story needs. Monsters that look like monsters but aren't. People who look like people but are monsters. This book sucks you in right from the start. You can't help but fall in love with them. Jeb works for FUC. Furry United Coalition. When Jeb sees Nevaeh in a cage he has to rescue her even if it's against his orders. All Nevaeh wants is to not be a freak and live a normal life free of her tormentors. When Jeb sees her free he sets into motion things he couldn't have known. When secrets come to life can these two make it out alive? Can Jeb keep Nev safe and help her find what she's looking for. Or are they screwed and not in the good kind of way. I love this series. It's got plenty of laughing and danger and sexy scenes. It's the total package. I highly recommended that you go get your copy now.

The later books in this series aren't as entertaining as the earlier ones. Oh, the previous one had its moments but to be honest, I think a large part of it is the whole "same plot, different antagonist" bit. Well, that and this book seemed to be rather light on the actual relationship development. Time was skipped, with the characters apart for various reasons, and what time they were together seemed to be in the middle of some sort of drama. IOW, how did they fall in love? They weren't together enough to even know what each other's full name was.

And really, I'm not sold on the whole "create mutants via experiments" theme when they seem to do just fine with that via interbreeding (the sabertoothed giant bunny from book 1 for example). In this case, they've created a mythical beastie which makes me think of the chimera series by the same author. Seems redundant.

2.5 better than the last one but not by much stars

I don't know why but the past two books just haven't done it for me. I feel like the story should have ended after the Mastermind stuff. This new arch is kinda boring for me so I might not read the next book.

So... hm.

I want to start this review by saying that I've read the entire box set of Furry United Coalition and I loved those books. They're quirky, punny, light reads that usually have me wheezing. I've been known to do snapchat read-alongs of this series to highlight the absolute gold of Langlais's prose. It's a fantastic series if you like quirky, bizarre reads.

I was absolutely elated when I finished Ostrich and the 'Roo and found out this was coming out just days later. I haven't had a chance to decide which series of Langlais's I want to read next (because eventually, I will read them all) and in this case, I didn't have to choose another just yet; Roo and the Angel was coming.

Unfortunately, this book veers from the first six books in terms of pattern, writing, and plot. The things I liked most about this series have been removed from this book and replaced with all the things I wished there was less of in previous books. I feel let down. As an example, the terrible animal-related puns I've come to expect have been entirely replaced with the vastly inferior "ASS" "FUC" plays on words--except in this book, there's a stylistic choice not to capitalize the acronyms, so it's just confusing more than anything.

Another major cause of concern for me was with the content of the book itself. Normally, Furry United Coalition books have this beautiful balance between sensitive love scenes and comic action. The heroine is usually somewhat stable, even if she's coping with something new that she hasn't experienced before. She's normally able to get with the program, stop with the pity-party, and focus on what matters within the first 30% of the book, I'd say.

Not so in Roo and the Angel--and it was flat-out annoying. I understand from a realistic sense by Nev is the way she is, but I honestly wanted to punch her in the face. Repeatedly. And shake her for good measure. She's insecure, wishy-washy, overly prickly and she's still doing the "woe-is-me" crap basically until the epilogue.

As if dealing with Nev's soap-opera moods wasn't enough, though, the balance is completely off in terms of sensitive romance and testosterone-fueled action. Ie, there's a ridiculous amount of macho men having pissing contests in this book. Actually, I'm just going to say it: I don't like the Jones at all. The whole entire loud-mouthed, overly boisterous, ridiculously macho, immature clan who thinks they're the shit but literally improvise everything and are basically rich guys with grenades... I don't like them. I could tolerate them in Ostrich and the Roo, where they played second fiddle to the main plot. In this book, where there's a lot of family drama and their mom is literally saying "I faked my death to get away from you" and my first thought at her saying that is 'yeah I would too, honestly,' it's just... No. It's. No.

Also I'm really uncomfortable with that mommy-issues aspect of the plot. I don't see why it needed to be in there. It didn't add literally anything, it just... it's uncomfortable. That's the only way I can put it. Honestly, considering how ridiculously macho and "I-always-win" that family is, I don't blame the mom for wanting to leave and I can see how she could easily, easily be prevented from going the traditional route and getting a divorce or separation. Obviously, I don't like what she did after she left - and I'm not going to get into that since this is kind of a spoiler anyway, but also it's heavily alluded to at the end of Ostrich and the Roo - but it made me uncomfortable when I didn't know if I was supposed to hate her for being a product of a group of borderline toxic-masculinity. On the one hand, she's wack. On the other hand, the Jones clan is so, so overwhelming that I can hardly handle reading about them, let alone dealing with them day to day in real life.

So that's my honest take on this book. I know it's not the most flattering review, but I've made reviews of every one of these books and I feel like it would be a lie to pen a review for this book saying "yeah it's great, so funny, can't wait for more!" It wasn't funny. It was awkward and annoying. I wanted to know what happened next and it held my attention, but at the same time I can tell you deadass if the next book comes out and it has more of this overwhelmingly masculine, mommy-issues fueled malarkey, I probably won't read it.

That said, I want to emphasize: this isn't an attack on the author or even on the series. I loved the earlier books. I can't wait to read more Eve Langlais. For all I know, this book may be great to other readers who think differently than I do. It's just that this particular book wasn't my personal favorite.

Crazy good fun!

This novella-length audiobook (4.75 hours) has everything I could ever want in a paranormal romance: action, humor, a crazy meet-cute, an interesting villain, a lovable hero, and a relatable heroine who can kick butt. In audiobook format, the narrator was superb as well.

The narrator did a phenomenal job. His Australian accent was authentic and sexy for the hero Jeb Jones. His female voices were believable and pleasant. The pacing and sense of humor were perfect!

I loved the story. Before I started listening, I had been apprehensive about how much I would like the characters because I didn’t like two other audiobooks in this series that I tried. In “Ostrich and the Roo”, the previous book in this series, I thought that the heroine was extremely obnoxious and antagonistic to everyone around her, and the hero was obnoxious as well. However, in this “’Roo and the Angel”, the heroine Neveah had the correct moderate level of sarcasm and possessed emotional vulnerability that made her a fantastic character.
I absolutely adored Jeb Jones, the down-to-earth Australian dude who shape-changes into a kangaroo. He is like a younger, hotter Crocodile Dundee. I love how Jeb was awestruck at his first glimpse of Neveah and how he carefully, considerately rescued her and took care of her. Jeb respected her and did his best to bring up her spirits. It was a little annoying how Jeb thought that Neveah couldn’t handle the truth about something important, but I still love Jeb. He is a fantastic book boyfriend.

The story had a great balance of action interspersed with tender moments and a nice small number of steamy love scenes. I had a great time listening to it.

I received a free audiobook copy from the author, and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

3 stars.

Another short and wacky instalment of the FUC series. I think it would be kinda cool to have wings, as long as you can hide them, I guess. Eve Langlais manages to get a lot of the Australian colloquialism right, which is quite brilliant.

Content= 4.5 Fun, funny, sweet, exciting, enjoyable story, great characters
Narrator= 4 stars Good voice made it easy for me to "see" the story in my head. Kept my full attention on what he was reading. Easy to understand even doing the different accented voices for each character.
Audio itself= 3 stars About two-thirds into the book it hit spots where the edited audio was not removed so sentences would repeat multiple times in different tones. Was amusing at first once I realized what it was, but it got annoying after the third spot where it did it. First one, I thought my phone was malfunctioning. Then voice changed and I was all "Oopsies. Missed one." Fortunately it was near the end and not all through the book. That would have made me mad.

This was typical fun romantic comedy that I love from Eve Langlais. There is a new mad scientist testing on humans, and boy were Jeb and his brothers surprised to find out who it is! The heroine was a bit annoying at times, but she eventually did come to her senses and get over her self-pity party. Jeb was amazingly patient with her and so sweet it made me hungry for powdered sugar donuts! He made it easier to deal with her pessimism by reminding us she just went through something horrific that she had no idea she was getting into when she signed up for a medical study. She just needed extra cash to pay for school and rent. In retrospect, I liked the approach the author took for her. It was more realistic than most romance heroines are depicted. It brought something different to an otherwise tired trope.

F.U.C. Is one of my favorite series by Eve Langlais, and I will read every installment she publishes for it. Have yet to try one of the F.U.C. books written by others, but plan to do so soon. I can't imagine anyone else doing it as well as Eve, but hopefully they did.

Bottom line, if you liked previous books in the series, add this to your list. I doubt you'll be disappointed. I also will not think twice about purchasing another audiobook read by Henry Jones. Great job giving each character their own voice.

* you must have read the previous book to fully enjoy this book.

The final instalment in the F.U.C. series. When Jeb is helping his brother Jax to save his girl ( see previous book), he finds a black-winged, angelic looking woman in one of the cages of the facility. As a good kangaroo-shifter he decides to hide the human woman Neveah from the world to protect her. But there seems to be more to Neveah's condition and the experiments than meets the eye.

Pro's:
+ Another actionpacked story full of twists and turns. There is something happening in every chapter and it never feels like it is too much. The writing style is less comedial compared to the previous books, which was a bit of a shame, but it never gets boring or without emotions and feelings.
+ I really like the mystery of Neveah's condition. You know she has been experimented on and she was a human before, but now she was wings and purple eyes. Throughout the story you'' find out more clues until the full condition outs itself when the ending nears. The build-up was done really well and the suspense was really killing me at some points.

Con's:
- This story has a open ending and as a conclusion of a series that is really unfortunate. It also never is mentioned which series to read next, so now I'm sitting here wondering were to go next.

A really enjoyable read, as the book is not very long but packed with a vivid adventure and full of twists and turns. The only thing that really bummed me out about this book was the ending. The other books in this series never had a truely open ending and then the last one does this to me.

cute but same cookie cutter since the new evil Cole, Koala shifter with a grudge. Well, now we have a new evil mastermind. So I dislike evil women that are involved with mass killings, even though she has a man Koala influence and this is supposed to be light and fun. If it had more laughs I might have given it a boost up but Furry United Coalition isn't as fun as it started. Still it is a quick, insta love entertainment.

Watch out for that Roo and keep your hands off my man

I loved this story. Can I go on record and stay their mum is a betych . Sorry but I just had to get that out. Why I can say this, Eve Langlais is an equal villain opportunist. Mastermind was a woman and now this one is a really bad mammajamma. Jen though he was seeing an angel and Nevaeh would always be one to him. Their adventure started off with a bang literally and it continued. You have kidnapping, murder, love, finding mates, lies, and finding out their are others living amongst you in this world. I could not out this book down except when I had to buy trust me it was killing me to do so. I highly recommend this book. And I'm glad we got my dose of Miranda in it. Please let there be another book. Sorry if people thundered should end this is not one of them. They can go suck it

Eve Langlais is one of those authors that will have you laughing by the silliness and the crazy things that happen to her characters. I loved this new installment of her https://www.goodreads.com/series/70018 series.

We met Jeb back in his brother’s book, Ostrich and the 'Roo. That entire family, the Jones’, are a mess but in a good way. When Jeb meets Nevaeh, he thinks that she is an angel.

I loved the fact that he was obsessed and liked her from the beginning. Throughout this story there was surprise after surprise. I am looking forward in seeing what happens with everyone and everything that was revealed.

Loved it, the Jones boys are back

Jeb Jones finds an angel in the lab they rescued his brother and his chick from. Knowing that if F.U.K or A.S.S get their hands on her she will find herself in another cage, nicer , but still a cage, so he helps her escape.

Nevaeh was human. A vagabond, who signed up to participate in a study for cash, found herself with wings. A failed experiment. While Jeb promised freedom,.She knows the reality, no where is safe. Then she learns the truth about Jeb and A.S.S, offers her a place where she can be free. Her new home is nice, but there is no Jeb. When she learns he is in trouble she is all in with the Jones clan to save him.
Fast paced, a.little steamy.and a lot funny. Love the Jones family, can't wait for Masie and Jakob.

God woman! What a tease!

The Jones brothers are amazing! Where can I get one? (Don't tell my husband i said that lol). Seriously I didn't want this story to end. Intrigue, romance, comedy and suspense this book has a touch of it all! The characters were well written and left you wanting to tie up loose ends on their behalf (Nehaehs dad comes to mind there). No firm positive identification of our heroine is a bit frustrating but the HEA is sweet and is nice to see the inclusion of previous characters.
Please Ms/Mrs/miss Langlais do not leave it another year for the next story!!!

Unlikely pair

Volunteer for some testing and wake up with wings. Considered a failed experiment Nev just wants to be free. Jeb breaks into an institution and finds an angel. Helps her to escape. Thinks the FUC will catch her and take care of her. He gets back to help clean up and finds her hiding in a tree. He wants to keep her, but can he? She learns of a place that has people like her with wings and decides she wants to go there. She learns Jeb is in trouble and will do anything to make sure he is ok. Will they make it out alive? Can they have a life together? Can she learn to hide her wings? Come find out and see what else is out there.

Jeb Jones and his brothers invade an experimental lab, and while there Jeb sees something amazing - an angel! He manages to free her before the mad scientists destroy the rest of the experiments, and from then on Jeb (a kangaroo shifter) is on a mission to hide and protect Neveah from those who would use or destroy her. This book was funny, charming, and had so many twists and turns. I hope she continues this series and we get to see more crazy FUC agents and not-so-common shifters!

Great read

Another great book in the series. These stories have so much humor, action and emotional energy they really hook you. Couldn't stop reading until I was done. It's a good thing that the book was not real long. I finished in one day. Jeb and Nevaeh are the perfect match for each other. Really hope there will be more books in this series. I would recommend this story to any adult reader who enjoys very sexy shifter romances.

Fast paced and action packed

I loved everything about the ‘Roo and the Angel. The action never stopped, a constant, fast-paced adventure that was unpredictable and hilarious. Explosives, Helicopter crashes, piles of goop, and hilarious banter; what more could a girl want? Sexy-fun-Times? Yup, had that too!

Angel? Maybe not!!

Jeb and his family have come to rescue humans and shifters from being used as lab rats. When he rescues Nev, who was a human, but now has wings, he is instantly attracted to her. Danger soon follows and an unexpected relative shows up, who was thought to be dead. I always love Eve Langlais' books and her unstoppable imagination.

Cute

This was a very interesting set of developments in this FUC series. With FUC and ASS battling for jurisdictions it is not surprising that the “scientists “ are still going strong with their experiments. It was great that one of the Jones boys met his HEA.

Such a diverse and wacky series.
Fun read with lots happening.
You really need to have read the previous books to appreciate the happenings going on with the family dynamics.
One of the better stories in this series due to all the happenings in the previous book.

Light and fluffy, no pun intended. Silly like the rest of the series, but maybe not as over the top.

I listened to the audio of this with Henry Jones narrating. The narration was fine, but it seemed there were LOTS of editing issues. (Might have just been my recording?)
