The Prophecy of Fire was only the beginning...
After the tumultuous events of The Storm Runner, our young protagonist, Zane Obispo, is now living a comfortable life on a private island with his closest companions.
All should be good from here on out, but unfortunately, as life often goes, it's not.
Zane discovers that the book he recently wrote, detailing his time with the Mayan Gods, has endangered other Godborns. They are being kidnapped at an alarming rate and spirited away to Gods don't even know where!
Making matters worse, his own father, Hurakan, the Mayan God of wind, storm and fire, is set to be executed.
Zane needs to save them all. A quest is no fun alone, however, so he brings along his hellhound, Rosie, a new friend, fellow Godborn, Ren, and an old enemy. As to be expected, severe hijinks ensue.
The Fire Keeper keeps up the action-packed adventure we have come to expect from Zane and the crew. I love this group of characters. They are caring, loyal, funny and fearless.
Zane's Uncle Hondo holds a special place in my heart. I find his charming energy contagious, but Zane is the true hero of these stories.
He is just the sweetest boy and I am enjoying watching him grow through the installments. He has been through so much, but always faces new challenges with optimism and spunk.
This is a really great Middle Grade series. I am going to be impatiently waiting for the third book to release in the Fall of 2020.
It sounds like we are going to have some sort of training for the Godborns, which y'all know, is one of my all time favorite tropes.

I really enjoyed this sequel. It was the perfect followup to book 1. One of my favorite things about both books so far is that the books are written addressed to the godborn. The adventure is fun and full of mythological creatures. I can't wait to see what adventure book 3 brings the godborns.

The Fire Keeper is the sequel to The Storm Runner, following Zane Obispo on new adventures, this time out to save his dad from prison! It is based upon Mayan mythology and is a perfect fitting series coming from Rick Riordan Presents.
I thought the first book was lots of fun, and here we just expand on the world and characters we got to know in the first book. I think a lot of new and exciting things was brought to the table and I cannot wait for the next book. I especially love how Zane’s shorter leg and his cane is a sign of his godborn power and can make kids out there with canes feel just as awesome with him. More thoughts in my video review! 4/5 stars.

Loved this continuation of the series. Definitely invested now.
The Fire Keeper continues The Storm Runner series and we follow Zane while he tries to escape his gilded cage. He's currently trapped in the underworld with his friends and family, but his recent story has put other Godborns at risk and his father has been imprisoned for breaking his oath. Luckily, Zane is not alone and with Rosie, Uncle Hondo, Brooks and new Godborn, Ren, he has a good chance of saving everyone.
The stakes in this one were definitely raised and it felt like we got more character development. Whatever weird feeling the first one left me with, wasn't present in this book. Maybe it's that we got another female side character. Which speaking of Ren, it looks like her series will be out later this year (The Lords of Night) and I am very excited for this new series!
The one thing that I had weird feelings about is Uncle Hondo flirting with Brooks' sister. Mainly because I'm uncertain how old she is and Hondo is definitely in his 30s, if not older. Nothing comes of it besides the two enjoying mutual flirting, but I wanted to mention it because Brooks' sister might be underage??? Maybe? I really don't know.
I really enjoyed the plot of this one and seeing Zane trying to save the day by doing everything himself. We see that he realizes he can't and he'll have to trust his friends and allies if he wants to succeed. Which brings me to Ah Puch, he really surprised me in this book. I'm so curious to see what this god will do next. And then there's all the Godborns--it sounds like a training school is to come and I cannot wait!

I absolutely loved this story!
I have not read "The Storm Runner" yet, but I plan to very soon. Even though I did not read the first book, this book caught me up to speed as Zane embarked upon a new journey to save 10 kidnapped demigods and his father before his execution.
What I love about Rick Riordan and Rick Riordan Presents is that I can learn more about the different cultures and their gods. The Storm Runner series focuses on the Mayan gods all the way down to the myth that they were descended from aliens. Actually, maybe all of the gods were descended from aliens. (Hmm...)
Zane has to pair with a very unlikely ally. If you read book one, this alliance will make your head spin. We are also introduced to a new demigod, as well as 10 others, which I believe will go into more detail in the next book.
I will say, I loved how the story ended. It was the perfect ending to this story, leaving the reader with a lot of happy feels for where this adventure is heading. Book 3 can't come fast enough!

Review: I really liked this book the second time around. I really love the character development and how the story toes that line between scary and funny. The world building is amazing, the writing is fantastic, and I absolutely love the mythology behind this book.
The only thing I got confused on was the plot. It's a bit too big for the book and there's a lot of loose strings at the end, but that makes me more excited to move onto book 3.
Verdict: It's amazing!

Review: This book was my favorite last year and this book is one of my faves this year! I loved to see Zane's story continue, I think there's something so enduring about him and his trials that I get so emotionally attached to him. I love the writing, the character development, and how well new characters are quickly developed as well.
My only issue is the pacing. I felt that the beginning was super slow and it took a bit for me to get into, but after that I was all in for it.
Verdict: Definitely recommend it!

It was good. Not as good as the first one. I liked the characters, but i felt like i didn't get to be in their head enough. I liked the plot and setting and characters nd everything, it just as though it might have went a bit too fast paced and we didn'tr get to actually hear what the character's thought of it enough. I also think it would be better if it was told from Zane AND Brooke's perspectve

Hmmmm it was kinda boring at times & felt really dry. The humor felt forced too but I must say that the ending was actually great & I felt happy.

The Storm Runner series is middle grade mythology fantasy series, and it is part of the Rick Riordan presents line. I have not read the first book in the Storm Runner series, and while there were a few parts where I was a little lost, It wasn't too bad. I enjoyed this book, and am definitely excited to go back and read the first one now that I know it is part of a series. Before I get on to the book review, I just wanted to mention how much I love the Rick Riordan presents line from Disney Book Group. First, I am a huge Rick Riordan and Percy Jackson fan. The line uses Rick's Editor and they are all hand selected by Rick himself. According to their Website, each of the books from the line feature "some type of middle grade adventure, with lots of humor and action, and probably draw on myth or folklore in some way." Basically, if you like Rick Riordan's stories, you will probably like the stories from his publishing line.
In The Fire Keeper, we meet our hero Zane, who is living a fabulous life on a private island. He thinks his adventuring days are over, but boy is he wrong. I really wish that I had read the first book in the Storm Runner series first because I would have loved to have experienced Zane's adventure with some of the godborns, or demigods, before he launches into his mission to save them, which is the premise of The Fire Keeper. Zone wrote a book about his experiences with the Mayan Godborns and he believes that book is somehow linked to a series of godborn kidnappings that have been occurring. So Zane sets out on a mission to recuse the kidnapped godborns and find out what is going on.
The Fire Keeper is full of action, adventure and plenty of mythology. Everything I love in a fantasy adventure. I am not super familiar with Mayan mythology, so I loved learning about it in this book. I can't wait for more. I need to immediately go and read book one so I can be ready for the third book when it releases next year! If you love the Percy Jackson series and are looking for something similar, check out the Rick Riordan presents line. I think the Storm Runner series will be an excellent fit for you.

Mir hat schon Band 1 sehr gut gefallen und dieser band stand dem im nichts nach.
Ich habe mich wieder wunderbar unterhalten gefühlt und ich finde es mal erfrischend das es um die Maya-Götter geht.
Die Götter halten Zane für tot. Doch er weiss wenn er die Sicherheit der Insel verlässt wird sich das ändern. Aber Zane will seinen Vater retten.
Der beste Plan fällt natürlich ins Wasser, wenn alles anders läuft als gedacht. Denn Zane befindet sich schneller als gedacht in einen Wettlauf mit der Zeit.
Die Handlung hat mich direkt wieder in den Bann gezogen. Spannend gemacht und einen tollen Humor. Und Charaktere die ich schon im ersten Band ins Herz geschlossen habe. Alte Freunde und neue Verbündete spielen hier eine Rolle.
Ich konnte das Buch kaum aus der Hand nehmen, da ich einfach wissen wollte was alles passiert und welche Götter hier diesmal ihren Auftritt haben.
Auf jeden fall darf man sich hier auf so ziemlich unerwartetes Einstellen kann.
Ich freue mich schon auf den dritten Band.

I don't know how to feel about this series, i mean Zane keep growing and so it does the rest of his gang but i feel like they where left behind this time so we can focus on Ren (the new girl) and that god i won't talk about because of spoiler so...
Back to the story i really like how everything was resolve but at the same time i feel like if it was solve to convenient,i mean i tough there wouldn't be a happy ending this time,but it does,so i'm a bit nervous that J,C won't have the courage to kill of someone,not that i want that to happen but it would have made the story more credible for how things were going on.
The fact that secondary character from book one come back in this one was something really unexpected for me,especially because they help you realize that not everyone it's what it seems in this Maya universe.

Nonstop action and fun. My students that like Rick Riordan like this series. The character arc is a bit weak (because there is so much action) but there was an interesting villain. There is humor and interesting Mayan mythological facts. Perfect for my vacation and sitting in the sunshine.

3.5* Another adventure with the Maya gods and godborns. Zane Obispo is back and he needs to save his father, the god Hurakan, from execution. He also need to go save other godborns whose identities were exposed because of him. If you have read the other books in the Rick Riordan presents series, then you would know the vibes this book has. It's a pretty fun easy read.

Book. I read the first few chapters and started getting nervous that I would not like this book but HOLY. I loved this book. The book was super good. It throws TONS of twists and turns at you. Just when you think something’s gonna happen, BAM! Something else happens and you’re just like 😧. This book kept me in my toes and kept me reading all day. In fact I read this book all in one sitting. This book was a delight to read and was a fun, clean and good fantasy novel as well as a good continuation of the series. 100% recommend

I finished this book recently and really enjoyed it. I am extremely excited that there is going to be a third book in the series. I read the 1st one and enjoyed that one a lot, as well. The narrator for the audio production is AMAZING and captures the character perfectly. I'm sad that I have to wait a long time for the next book to come out, but I am also happy that there is going to be another book! Can't wait to see the cover!!! I also have never even heard of Maya legends/myths/gods. It really was really interesting to me because I am mostly just familiar with roman mythology, greek mythology, and norse mythology (courtesy of Rick Riordan, in which I am extremely thankful for RIck Riordan Presents; it opens and expands my knowledge to cultural beliefs). Anyway, I really loved this book and *spoiler alert* thought the character development was amazing when Ah Puch actually became friends with Zane (the main character)! I also loved the ending. And, as I have said before, I CANNOT wait until fall 2020 for The Shadow Crosser!!! Thank you for this amazing series, J.C. Cervantes!

I love this series, and my students are with me on that (our school bought over a hundred copies of the first book). I bought personalized autographed books for my nephews. And I even convinced the family in front of me to get a copy of The Storm Runner when we struck up a conversation about Read Riordan books at Rick Riordan's event. If anyone in your family likes mythology or the Percy Jackson novels (or movies) run to the nearest bookstore and get BOTH of these books for the holidays. They are likely to thank you, but if they're like me the might simply say so when does the final book in the trilogy come out and how can I meet J.C. (AKA Jennifer) Cervantes? Tell them 2020 and try going online, follow her on Instagram. Then they're likely to express their gratitude.

Whenever the character makes a plan, it falls a part. J.C. Cervantes keeps you on your toes as you travel with Zane through Xibalba and set out to find the Fire Keeper. The new characters are amazing and I love that Zane addresses the fact that he and Rosie have experienced things that have changed them. I can't wait for the next book!

Eine tolle Fortsetzung, welche zum Teil sogar noch spannender war als der erste Band.
Inhalt:
Zane sitzt zusammen mit seiner Familie, seiner (Höllen-)Hündin Rosie und seiner besten Freundin Brooks auf einer wunderschönen Insel fest. Die Göttin Xibalbá hatte sie nach der Gefangennahme von Huracán, dem Vater von Zane, dorthin gebracht. Bei einem Versuch die Insel zu verlassen, mussten sie feststellen, dass ein „magisches“ Schild sie umgab, welches sie von ihrer Flucht abhielt.
Plötzlich taucht die Halbgöttin Ren auf und Zane entscheidet sich, zusammen mit Rosie, Brooks und seinem Onkel Honda in die Unterwelt zu reisen und von dort aus zu fliehen.
Unerwartet taucht Xibalbá auf und schlägt Zane einen Deal vor, welchen er nur widerwillig eingeht. Ein Abenteuer mit vielen Gefahren, angriffslustigen Fledermäusen und mörderischen Gegnern beginnt.
Fazit:
Der erste Band hatte mir schon sehr gut gefallen, weshalb ich bereits gespannt war, wie es im nächsten Band weitergeht. Am Anfang dauerte es ein wenig, bis die Geschichte an Fahrt gewinnen konnte, dies lag vor allem daran, dass es einige Wiederholungen von Band 1 gab. Nach den ersten 100 Seiten wurde es aber richtig spannend!
Das Cover mit dem feurigen Hintergrund und der Fledermaus an der Oberseite des Covers gefällt mir sehr gut. Ich bin mir sicher, dass die Cover der Trilogie zusammen ein wunderbares Bild abgeben werden!
Ich freue mich schon, wenn im Herbst der letzte Band der Serie erscheinen wird!
Das Buch empfehle ich ab einem Alter von zehn Jahren.

When I said I love this series, I meant it. At this point actually I need to stop believing one is permanently dead when the series has not yet ended because resurrection is Riordan universe's thing.
To be honest, this book is not as funny as the first one but the plot definitely covered it. I like this one's plot better, though. How somehow the Maya and Mexica gods and goddesses will eventually meet each other? Reminds me on Heroes of Olympus a lot. Not that I mind it, though.
This series might be my favorite one yet out of all Rick Riordan Presents books that I have read.
I'm really really looking forward to the final book and it'd better be good.
Also Hondo and Quinn might be my new favorite ship despite they only have split-second interaction but they are so cute?????

The middle entry of J.C. Cervantes' planned Storm Runner trilogy sees Zane Obispo having to deal with a lot of unexpected ramifications from his first adventure. Not only having to live in isolation on a faraway island where shadow magic mucks with the WiFi, but the fact that by publishing his adventure in the world, even in a form where only the godborn (that is, we in the real world) can read the most salient details, has earned him a lot of negative attention from the Maya pantheon. Nice little touch of meta-humor there, Cervantes. But for this book, it's pretty appropriate that it's The Fire Keeper, because the action keeps the plot moving blazing fast and blisteringly hot. Only one more book left, and I'm pretty scared to see what kind of epic finale Cervantes gives us. Being that she's working under Rick Riordan's auspices, this is gonna get bloody even when it's bloody awesome...

Very solid adventure in the Zane trilogy. Zane finds out pretty early that writing down his adventures from the first book and putting in a message to the godborn ended up putting them in danger. He sets off on a rescue journey accompanied by his Hellhound Rosie (yay), a new godborn, Ren, and one of the Gods. Also part of the adventure, but not always with him are Brooks and Quinn. The book is pretty much non-stop action and references to things like his cellphone remind us that this takes place in current times. I love learning about different mythologies and this is a great way of learning about the Mayan gods. Once again, Riordan Presents has teamed up with a great writer to bring us an adventure set in the world of the gods, this time in Mayan mythology. I'm looking forward to finding out the conclusion of this series.

I liked the new characters we meet in this one, and I liked seeing more of the Maya gods. The different kinds of magic were fun to read about, and I really enjoyed the direction the story went in.
I felt that the plot was exciting and action-packed while still showcasing the emotional aspects really well. The writing style is fantastic for this type of story, and it lends itself well to creating a relatable character and narrator in Zane. His character growth from the first book to the second is awesome, and I loved that he wasn’t putting himself down over his leg and Fuego (his cane) as much in this one. He’d learned to accept all the parts of himself, and I really appreciated that message.
I thought the pacing was really good, and that the story flowed really well. I read this in a couple of hours and really enjoyed it.

This second book in the Storm Runner series was just as action packed, and interesting, as the first. Zane and his friends are on a quest to save Hurakan, Zane's father from imprisonment. To do this they must journey to the Mayan Underworld, face off with several, sometimes tricky, Mayan gods and find the Fire Keeper. Zane is accompanied, or aided, by Brooks, Quinn, Hondo, Rosie and new godborn Ren, who has a fascinating history of her own.
There was a fascinating mix of new characters in this second installment, my favorite being Ren. Her feisty personality, and intriguing back story made her really engaging and fun. Many of the new gods and creatures we met had such distinct personalities, some of them not so nice. However, each added to the story and really made it interesting.
There were also some parts that were a little too gross for me, but that is my preference.
I can't wait for book three!

I will say the things I don't like first: This book was slightly less well-knit than the first book, the plot felt less book together, and to be honest, it would have been better if the story just ended with the first book. The first book ended everything off really well, and the beginning of this book rips that ending out of your hands. Also, Zane's humor isn't as good as Percy's or Magnus's. I think writers should try to find their own style instead of copying Riordan's, because it likely will not come off as well.
Things I liked: This book incorporates a lot more myths and gods than the last one, and it portrays Zain's relationship with Rosie very realistically. Hondo also comes off as a lot more useful and nuanced in this book.

So I didn’t remember the first book at all really but I thought this was good. However if you don’t like books with blood.....this one has a lot of blood in it. I thought it was good, I will definitely be reading the next one maybe after a reread of the first book though. This isn’t the kind of book where if you don’t remember the one before it it gives you a recap. But overall good story, I like Ren, and I didn’t find it that predictable.
