Inchor

Rate this book
Inchor will permit you to defy all the sorrow you once buried deep within you, now riddled within your bones, in order to reach ecstasy and bury seeds instead of persons and gather flowers instead of sorrowful thoughts.

Fragments of what once made your eyes weep but now make your tears dry. Broken pieces put together to create wholeness within you.

Based on the genre of milk and honey; Inchor is a poetry book that will delicately unlace the legion of intertwining cords enfolding your brain, in which thoughts are rummaging at all times, to bring out calm from the chaos dominating your soul. You will find the victory of all your previous battles in its poems and it will glorify the shields you have used and act as a weapon to your current daily battles. A mix of metaphors and meanings destined to make you feel the way you've never felt before.

I bought this book back when I thought that I liked Rupi Kaur’s poetry, and read it when I decided that that type of poetry is not for me.

Personally, the poems have weird spacing so that it was sometimes kind of weird reading them, and they are pretty light. I know that it is said at the end that the poems are not meant to be deep, but I did not like them nevertheless. At times I found them weird and not making sense to me, as it is not the type of poetry that I enjoy.

I know that it’s not a big deal but the book also has drawings in it which kind of made the book worse. In my opinion they are not good and also not really nice, and sometimes they also didn’t fit to the poem written on the page.

So I personally am not very fond of the book, but if you’re a fan of Rupi Kaur type of poems, you may like it.

Not every book is everyone’s cup of tea, I have to add.

I loved the intro! I don't think I've ever had an introduction quite like this for a collection of poetry! Also, I loved that her poems weren't directed at someone in particular or a particular situation. They were universal and I loved that that lets you apply any of the poems to whatever situation you may be going through.

The only problem I had with this book was that sometimes, because of the way the book's edited, I couldn't decipher when one poem ended and the other began. It didn't happen often maybe twice or three times throughout the entire collection but it did happen.

This book lacked no depth, emotion, or understanding. I absolutely loved it and I 100% recommend picking this up because it is a wonderful quick read.

**The author did contact me with a preview of this book and offer to read and review but I did purchase with my own money and have given my honest opinion.**

The introduction sold me hook, line and sinker. Aladea reached out to me on my IG account and asked me to read some of her work. After reading some tidbits I decided I needed to have Inchor for my personal collection. The rest of the collection didn't disappoint me.
Inchor is a beautifully written collection of short poems and pictures. I thoroughly enjoyed how the author didn't stick to one issue, or a particular person. The collection is a vast range of different things. I'm glad I decided to pick it up and add it to my poetry collection. I would recommend it to anyone.

First of all I'd just like to thank Aladea for reaching out to me so I could review this collection.

While I'm not a huge fan of this style of poetry, there is no doubt that this collection will be loved by many. If you are a fan of "Milk and Honey", I promise you, this is about 10x better, but in the same style. I also loved the inclusion of cute little illustrations.

Powerful debut, Aladea, and best of luck for your career.

Inchor is a beautiful read! It’s an illustrated poetry book and the images and words inside the book are stunning. I love the simple and minimalist feel to the drawings and yet they spoke to me! The author’s short style of poetry still manages to convey a sense of passion as she writes and even explains the poems she’s written to her readers. Definitely one to watch out for 💙

I DNFed because this poetry Collection felt recycled. And the pictures didn’t work with the story. But some of them were good but not all that’s why I gave it a 3 and not a 2

A lovely combination of contemporary poems about the strength in words, self-love and romantic love. I would definitely recommend it to anyone trying to decide if they should purchase or to any friends that love poetry (especially those that enjoy Rupi).

Another poetry book that I just finished. I recently just bought this poetry book and the concept of the book is true to the core.

Every single entry speaks to everyone to a certain level and deeply connect with the author's thoughts and feelings. I'm going through poetry high and all I want to read a the moment is just poetry books.

I’m sorry milk and honey. This was amazing. All of these poems are so emotional and relatable. You can adapt the poem to fit your own story and I love that about Inchor. The poetry is beautiful and so so helpful.❤️

I usually hate giving negative reviews because I feel like I’m being mean, especially when it comes to indie authors, but I feel like the criticism is needed in this case.

Firstly, I’d like to point out that I don’t usually read poetry, it’s not something I usually look out for. I can appreciate poetry, but I’m not like, -into- it that much. However, the author reached out to me and I figured I may as well check it out since the reviews made it sound similar to Milk & Honey - which is a poetry book I actually own and like.

Secondly, whilst writing this, I have a feeling this review is going to be very long, and will probably read more like advice to the author rather than an actual review. I’ll try and keep this as short as I can whilst also being helpful.

At the start of the book, there’s an explanation for the name and imagery on the book; at the end, there’s a long acknowledgements page. There’s nothing wrong with having those there, but I don’t think it’s necessarily needed. Again, I’m not a poetry person, but I’m sure the poems should stand by themselves without any kind of explanation. While the author may have a specific meaning behind a certain poem, I’m sure the audience may interpret it differently, and in the case of the cover/imagery, I feel like it didn’t really need explaining.

While some of the poems in here are actually good, some are more simple and, for lack of better term, basic. It’s something that I would have related to when I was a teenager as the majority of the poems included teenage issues. I have no doubt that the author can improve the writing quality over time, there is definitely a lot of potential, but as it is right now, it’s a little lacking. It does seem like it was written by a younger person who isn’t the most experienced at writing.

The book itself lacked structure. Milk & Honey made sense because all of the poems were split into different sections, and in each section, all of the poems related to one another. However, in this book, they seemed very randomly placed. There isn’t necessarily anything wrong with this, but I feel it would be a much better experience to read if it was telling a story through multiple different poems, much like Milk & Honey.

I feel the need to end on a high note so I’m going to include my favourite poem from the book and take the time to say a few things to the author:

Achieving your dream by publishing your poetry book is huge, and I’m happy you’ve managed to do that. I hope that this review, or any negative review that you get, doesn’t discourage you from pursuing a writing career because there is great potential here. Also, don’t feel the need to explain your work so much.

As promised, my favourite poem:

“If somebody
ever
makes you feel
like you are a waste
of oxygen
tell them
the air
isn’t theirs
to manage”

Purchasing Inchor at a used bookshop, I understood the type of poetry within it. I did not expect anything profound or meaningful, but I hoped to find a gem or two within this collection.

Despite my dislike for rupi kaur, which this book undeniably models itself afterward, kaur's poetry brims with more life and energy than the poems in this volume. That being said, Aladea shows much greater skill in illustration.

Most of the poems of this volume read like prose with odd spacing, as there seems to be genuine lack of understanding of poetic structure. Likewise, these poems, which not only lack rhyme, rhymth, and metre, but they say too much. The poems are too blunt. For example, "her long / slender / fingers..." (165) could have omitted its last two lines and become a more powerful poem.

Other gems include "even if the clouds" (187) and "you have to / break" (34).

The rest, unfortunately, lack little merit.

Still, it is sad to see that the author of this self-published volume has deleted her Instagram and otherwise 'gone dark' on the internet. I would have liked to read the progression of her work.

Something different from Amanda Lovelace and Rupi Kaur

THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD. I was contacted by the author a few years ago and I need to add some more books to my very low reading count and this was short and bam. I did screenshot some poems that I will be using as minute monologues for auditions and I looooooved this collection.

Beautiful and I think fulfills its promise of healing.

Every poem really hit deep. Very beautifully written and simple enough for everyone to be able to contemplate and feel the sense of each poem.

I always had a big issue with poetry : I don't really connect to romantic stuff. It's the same thing with romance novels or romcoms, most of the time, it's just not me. So when I say this book was too romantic for me, it only means that. I did not connect with the poems about love and relationships... And those were a lot of the poems.

I still liked some poems. I also thought it was well written. So I'm giving it 3 stars because I think that is the rating I would give it if I did not have that issue with romantism.

I wasn't wild about the majority of the poems. The author's tone in the preface and postface bothered me because although they were designed to be explanatory and helpful, they ended up being condescending. I didn't hate it, but I won't be returning to this one.
