Hail Raisers #5

The Hail You Say

Rate this book
Get out!

He yelled those words at the love of his life twelve years ago, and to this day, Reed Hail regrets them. He’s always been the type of person to speak before he thinks, and apologies have never come easy.

It’s been over a decade since she was his, and he stubbornly thinks that he can keep on living without her.

He couldn’t be more wrong.

The last thing he needs is her vagina anywhere near his exam table. But nobody ever asks him what he wants.

Maybe he should’ve gone into the auto-recovery business after all.

I hate you.

Krisney Shaw would take those words back in a heartbeat if she could. In fact, she would take back everything.

Never meeting him would be the perfect place to start. The memory of Reed Hail haunts her—morning, noon, and night.
Then, to add insult to injury, she has to see him being happy while she’s breaking a little more inside every single day.

Reed Hail is her worst nightmare because she’s constantly reminded of exactly what she’s missing—the other half of her soul.

Just when she thinks things can’t get worse, she’s sees his sexy, bearded face over the top of her paper gown, and she’s lost all over again.

Don’t ever let me go.

Both Reed and Krisney are determined to avoid each other. They do a great job of it, too…not.

One ill-timed gynecological exam changes everything. One single second in time shows Reed what he’s missing—literally and figuratively—and suddenly he’s back at square one.

The only problem with being back at square one? He won’t be able to leave her a second time.

Especially since the first time around he didn’t have a child with her to consider.

Remember when I wrote my 5-star review for book #4 of this series, What the Hail, and stated that Lani Lynn Vale had stepped into the ranks of my one-clickers? Well, with The Hail You Say, that statement couldn’t be more true. Why? Well, the first book I read from her was hilarious as heck with a bit of drama and suspense mixed in. This one was sweetly moving, heart-wrenching, dramatic, and just as awesome! I feel like I got to see another side to this author and I’m absolutely loving it!!

Reed and Krisney met when they were young (he was 18, she was 16) and fell in love quite quickly. They were destined to be together forever. A heartbreaking tragedy tore these young lovers apart and although they still loved each other and wanted to be together, for 12 years Reed couldn’t figure out how to make it work. Kris was a constant reminder of a pain his family only wanted to forget. But his heart could never let her go. Will fate step in and make things right?

I LOVED these characters. While I enjoyed and was entertained by the plot, this story was more character-driven than anything else. At least in my opinion. Their feelings for each other were intense and their chemistry was off-the-charts hot! My heart broke for both of them and what they seemed to have suffered by being apart over the years. Their anguish virtually seeped from the pages and I was their one-woman cheering squad. The author wove a story that had some nightmarish qualities and some fanatical suspense and created something beautiful in the destruction. Reed and Krisney didn’t have an easy road. Far from it. If you’re expected something light and fluffy, you won’t find that here. There’s years of pain, distrust, miscommunication, yearning, and so much love. And I believe that every ounce of emotion was stunningly captured in the story created for these characters.

For those who need to know if there is any safety issues in this novel… NO WAY!! Honestly, I feel I have to spoil this little part because I still can’t believe it and when I read it I couldn’t stop the huge grin that took over my face but… Drumroll please… both Krisney AND Reed were pseudo-celibate for the 12 years they were apart.

Yup, it’s true. Trust me, it was a very shocking discovery. However, it made me love these characters even more. It made me believe in them and their love and their destiny even more. It made it easy for me to keep right on cheering for them from the stands. There are more than enough heartbreaking scenes to go around and I did get a sting in my eye as a tear tried to get out. Don’t worry, I sucked that puppy right back in. No crying!! However, the pain was outshined by the beauty and I think the author found a fair balance that definitely worked in this book’s favor. I could go on and on about how fantastic this story is, but I won’t keep you any longer. I think it’s beyond obvious how much I loved it. Share my happy and one-click The Hail You Say today!!

Extended review and spoilers

Zero is a dick, heroine should have moved on. 12 years separation coz Zero dumped the h. Heroine joins the army, goes to Germany to move far away from their town and Zero gets assigned to the same base. During a routine med checkup, Zero is the ob/gyn and they have sex coz ‘chemistry’. Zero gets paged and leaves without saying anything. Heroine gets pregnant, moves back to the town.. guess who is the new town doctor? Zero.

Apparently, Zero has been following heroine around coz he can’t stay away but he doesn’t have the balls to officially pursue her coz he feels guilty towards his family since her bro raped his sis.

Omg writing this extended review is making my blood boil!!!

Anyhow, Zero is still wishy-washy after finding out that heroine is preggy with them babies. He sleeps with her but doesn’t make it official.

Honestly, the heroine should have hooked up with someone else.

Hero says he has been technically celibate for 12 yrs. no penetration and just a handful of oral/hand jobs with ow. No serious relationship too coz he can’t forget her.

Of course heroine is pristinely celibate for 12 yrs

Why does LLV always make her heroine undergo some really rough shit? Seriously... she was violated by her bro when she was young, her mom didn’t believe her, her parents were generally neglectful / abusive, then Zero dumps her after her bro was caught raping the zero’s sis but that wasn’t her fault at all, she never found another serious bf, she almost dies while pregnant with twins coz Zero has a crazy stalker who poisoned her, her twins were born premature coz of that poison..

The scene in which they had sex at the gynecological clinic made me very uncomfortable. In a time when the professional ethics are debated so much, the attitude of the hero left me with a bitter taste in my mouth that I could not overcome.
Abuse, rape, long separation between the couple, horrible heroine parents, unplanned pregnancy, guilt, hero not wanting to commit despite loving our heroine, our heroine being a complete doormat and without a backbone and an evil other womam, and so on...
It did not work for me.

ps:
One more author who thinks blowjob and oral sex is not considered sex. In their minds the hero remained celibate just because he did not stick his dick in the other woman's vagina. And as always the heroine has been celibate for many years ... no oral sex for her.

He inserted a finger…and that’s when I realized that he wasn’t wearing gloves. Wasn’t. Wearing. Gloves.

He was unzipping his pants and taking his cock out of the hole in his boxers and pants seconds later.

If Reed hadn’t dumped me, he would have. Instead, he’d let me go, and left me to a fate that I hadn’t wanted to face. Not ever.

And yes, I was celibate for all those years.

“Blow job here and there. A few times I reciprocated…but my cock has only ever been inside of you since I called it off,” he promised me. “It’s only ever been you.”

I’d seen her around town before with him. Once last week while at Subway, and another time while at the gas station when I’d been filling up. They’d been getting coffee.

Another great story from Lani Lynn Vale and the 5th story in the Hail brothers series. This is finally Reed and Krisney’s story and let me tell you....I did NOT see some of these twists! Wow! This is definitely different from the other books because even though you have some interaction from other characters you’re used to it’s not a lot because this story is focused mainly on the H and h which is nice because there weren’t any extra story lines to follow or what I like to call ‘filler pieces’ that some authors use to make the stories longer. LLV doesn’t need to do that in her books which is great but sometimes when you get to a certain point in a series you have all of these extra characters and in your mind you’re trying to remember everything and everyone and it can detract from the story.

So if you like true love stories that have tragically been separated but, because they are meant to be, eventually get back together with a surprise babies and lots of tears and happy love scenes with a bunch of steamy love scenes tossed together in a neatly and eloquently written book then you should definitely read this story. NOTE: this IS part of a series and should be read in order not alone!

No, just no.

Heroine was celibate for 12 years. Hero wasn't. He didn't have sex but did the other stuff with other women while secretly in love with the heroine.

If the heroine wouldn't have been pregnant with his ups-babies, then they would have never ever gotten back together. But wait, he knew that she was pregnant and didn't put his heat out his ass. No that wasn't enough. It took her almost dying for him to admitt to his feelings and grow a pair.
Just no.

This book was so wrong!

The Heroine is 30 and yet does everything her parents tell her to. Sitting in the back seat and go out eating. Helloo? She's in the military and needs permission from mommy and daddy? Not beliavable.

The Heroine is so dumb, that she tries out a "healing tea" for her pregnancy symptoms. This tea was given her by a nurse, who had hate in her eyes and fawning all over the Hero. Heroine had a bad feeling, but it didn't stop her from drinkin this stupid tea and putting some oily thing on her pregnant stomach. How dumb is she? And then she nearly dies of liver and kidney failure? She has to take medications for the rest of her life, becasue she had transplants.

I just can't anymore. This Heroine had to go through Hell and Back for her to find the HEA. And for waht? A coward hero, that's what.

It was just too much, too unbeliavable, too much hurting and nearly dying and bad things happening. This is by far the worst book I've read by this author.

The Hail You Say is a second chance romance that pulls you in from page one and does not let you go. Krisney and Reed more than deserve a second chance since they were ripped apart due to circumstances beyond their control, yes they made the decisions they did but it was based on the unimaginable events that occurred in their young lives. Ms. Vale did an exemplary job of making this reader feel every bit of the pain, suffering, love and passion they each felt. Krisney lived through so much heartache and abuse and kept it all to herself, not even sharing it with Reed. Reed loved Krisney more than anything, but felt he had to stay away from her out of respect and loyalty to his family. When these two finally start facing their feelings it is a heartbreaking yet beautiful thing, the road to their second chance isn’t easy but it is so worth it.

Reed and Krisney’s story doesn’t have as much humor or interaction with the secondary characters as previous Ms. Vale books but there humor added precisely when it is needed most and just enough mention of certain secondary characters to make you NEED their book NOW!

The Hail You Say takes you on a much deeper emotional, passionate ride, with heartbreaking bumps in the road, than other books by Ms. Vale making it impossible to put it down and the best book Ms. Vale has published to date. If you haven't read books by Ms. Vale yet this book would be a good one to read, it can totally be read as a stand alone. READER BEWARE - once you read a Lani Lynn Vale book it becomes an addiction.

2.5 / 5

I'm not really sure how I feel, the beginning was a lot better than the end in my opinion and I was often very lost at what was going on. Granted, this is the first book in the series I picked up, but there were other things that were just written and explained badly. It took me a while (after I'd read this section) to realise that both the main character were in Germany, because it skipped from being at home in a diner, to suddenly in Germany in the same page.

The end of this story drove me mad, I had been sincerely enjoying it until it became a fake, overdramatic soap opera.

“I’ve had other partners that I did other stuff with,” he admitted. “I haven’t been a monk, but I haven’t had sex with anyone but you since you…left.”

The relief that poured through me was uncontrollable.

“Blow job here and there. A few times I reciprocated…but my cock has only ever been inside of you since I called it off,” he promised me. “It’s only ever been you.”

That's called ORAL SEX you fucktard!

And of course, because this is yet again sexist bullshit, she was completely pristine celibate for 12 years. Pathetic loser.

Reed and Krisney's story is one that I find really hard to review. I just can't judge either of them for the way they dealt with the hands they were each dealt. The tragedy that they each suffered was the same but from different sides of it and they both sucked.

Obviously I would have preferred Reed not to have cut Krisney out of his life for 12 years. And I am not going to try to justify him doing that but I can understand why he felt he needed to.

The few reviews I read bashing Krisney for being a doormat feel a little harsh. I didn't feel like she was waiting around pining for Reed. She just felt resigned to the fact that he was someone she wasn't going to get over and trying felt worse than just living with it.

But Reed was right there in not moving on. And the lengths he went to to keep her alive and well made me forgive the stubbornness that kept them apart.

Now my feelings on it all might be that the book was being told in past and present tense and leaving out a lot of the time in between. Or it might just be that I was enjoying the story and didn't really look at what was missing because I was happy with what I had.

Now I am off to read the last book in the series and no doubt cry like a baby.

Oh, my heart! This whole audio I was rooting for Krisney, so so much happens to her that you just want her to get a little bit of something good.

…That scene… in Germany… You know the one... HOLY HOT!

Reed, he stole my heart he did. I love how different this book is and how much he was pining, even hurting because of his choice. But yet they both fought it. That pain was deep.

This book has so much hurt, but also so much joy its odd to say that without saying it was dramalama but really it wasn’t and that I think is one of the very reasons I love Lani’s books so much. She sucks you in and doesn’t let you go.

I can’t wait for more in this series!

The narration is my fav, I love these two for all of Lani’s books.

Reed and Krisney their story...

Another great tale by this amazing author. I have to say that I really don't read a lot of second-chance romances like this one but, I really should as I liked seeing how old loves find their way back to one another. For me, this was a really sad story that caused two people who were soul-mates to separate due to someone else's actions which caused a family loss, pain, and suffering.

I always pick a favorite character in a story that I am currently reading and mine this time around is going to be Krisney. Why you ask? There were just so many things that I loved about her character. I found her to be smart, sassy, sexy, determined someone loved with her whole heart funny, and someone who emotionally suffered much yet never left her broken just more determined and furiously independent. I loved how once she gave her heart to Reed there was no turning back for her he was her one true love and always would be. She tries to move on but, the heart wants what it wants and she chooses to stay true to Reed even though they are apart and have no future for one another. If Krisney was not able to have the one she wanted she chose to go it alone and take comfort in her memories. This just proves that once you find your soulmate there is truly no room for another in your heart foolish or not but, I found it quite endearing.

Reed Hail on the other hand I had mixed feelings about his character. Reed was the type of character that you love and dislike at the same time. I love how fiercely he loves Krisney in the now and always. Even though he loves her this much he continues to break her heart even after all these years. You understand why he felt the need to give her up in the first place but, as the story progresses we learn that he never truly gave her up just continued to love her behind the scenes yet refuses to create a life together now even after 12 years have passed. Reed was just a frustrating character that you just wanted to smack him upside of his head and tell him what a fool he was as so many never even have a taste of what he had with Krisney. It took almost losing the woman he loved since high school and his family to see what was right in front of him all along and now it's too late...

I enjoyed the story and its character especially when a couple love so fiercely and I loved being on Reed and Krisney's finding their way back to one another. The chemistry this couple had toward one another was fierce and loving and hot as hell. When this couple was in a room together you felt the heat and sizzle.

My favorite scene has to be Reed's confession of his love for Krisney in the hospital and it somewhat redeemed himself in my eyes.

My final thoughts

I loved both characters from the onset and no matter what their obstacles were there was no doubt they belonged together and they were and always had been the perfect soul-mate for one another. They had me rooting for their happiness throughout the entire story hoping that the dreams that they once had would become a reality. Even though I enjoyed these characters at the same time I felt they were a bit disconnected. I am not sure this is the correct word but, this is why I feel that way. This story had a tragic event that caused this couple to split and come between them but, It was Reed's words that sent her away. When fate brings them together again their first meeting is explosive and you see that the love they once shared is still there. Even though Reed is back in Krisney's life he remains emotionally detached from her but not physically. He loves her still yet is still determined not to have a future with her, yet can't stay away and it is hurting Krisney in the process. When the time has finally run out and it's too late for them now he wants a future with her. My favorite scene is where I should have been crying up a storm but, I was not. This was the type of story that should have tugged at your heartstrings in a big way and it did in some ways because you felt the loneliness and sadness they both experienced but, I never felt myself well up and cry or feel like crying and this story had more than one opportunity to make you do that. I guess what I am saying is that I wished that the story had moved me to tears at some point throughout the story. This is just something I felt was missing for me that is all and that does not mean that it still wasn't a great story as I did enjoy it very much.

I loved that Dante made an appearance with Mary and that he is taking the steps to come out of the darkness and into the light again and perhaps we will get to hear his story very soon.

Another enjoyable read and we are so enjoying this series and would recommend it and any other books by this author as all the ones we have read so far have been great reads.

And Oh! I love that Rafe remains a mystery...

"I needed to protect me at this point, not Reed."

I must confess that it's Dante's story that has me the most intrigued, I can't wait for it to be his turn. Truthfully, I didn't know much about Reed, so I didn't get all excited in anticipation of him. Now that I've read his story, it's one of my favorites. Actually, each book becomes my favorite, until the next one takes its place...sigh. ❤️

Krisney is a glutton for punishment. She just keeps taking it and taking it without protesting. I was ranting and raving on her behalf, ready to dole out some bitch slaps and junk punches. The fact that she made it through boot camp and into the military proves that she's badass and not a wimp. Her problem is that she has some guilt and insecurity weighing on her mind that convinces her she deserves what others are dishing out. Maybe the love of her life breaking her heart and ordering her to "Get out!" has something to do with that.

Krisney is reluctant to tell her parents, but excited to get the hail out of her hometown, when she's deployed to Germany. Their bitterness and her memories are something she's more than ready to leave behind. Unfortunately, she soon discovers that running away from her past didn't solve the problem, it seems to have followed her. The last person she ever expected to see between her legs again is staring at her from the end of his exam table. Dr. Reed Hail, her teenage sweetheart, and the one that she measured all others by resulting in her still being single.

Reed regretted his words before they ever made it past his lips, but he couldn't change them. The tragic event that resulted in his outburst overshadowed everything that followed. He thought he could move on and forget her, but he soon learned that was impossible. Everyone knew they were meant for each other, including themselves, but that didn't change anything. No matter what he did, someone would be hurt. It was a lose/lose situation that cost him everything... her.

The Hail You Say takes some of the threads left hanging in previous books and ties them together. Details are becoming clearer in some areas and more confusing in others. And my curiosity about Dante is stronger than ever. I have such a weakness for damaged, broken, bad boys and his story really has me tied in knots. I can't wait to get to know him better and to meet the strong woman it will take to heal his broken heart. The line forms here...

GAH! Just when i think i've figured out my favourite Lani Lynn Vale novel, she releases another book that makes me rethink the whole thing. So in 2018, i figured i'd wait to determine which it is. But i have a feeling it'll be near impossible because The Hail You Say was just that great with glimpses into Pap Bear AKA Steel Cross and Dante Hail's stories. While this book was entirely different from her previous books - since i neither guffawed for hours on end of had my heart ripped out, it was the book that drew me in like no other.

It was emotional and touched so many other stories at the same time that it made me smile in happiness and my heart stutter in surprise at all the obstacles Reed and Krisney went through since the very first day they met. So it was no surprise to me that amidst holiday travelling and family get togethers, i devoured this book within a few hours - and yes, i'm forever hungry for the book that this author has and will release because they are that fantastic.

Livro fácil e rápido, chamou a atenção pela capa. Ocorre muita coisa junto, se diminuisse 1 dos conflitos, o ridículo que odeio ( mulher maníaca e onipotente que consegue planejar vingança e causar danos pois quer o homem que nunca terá) teria sido melhor.

Did not finish.

If you are lookijng for stories that are engaging and characters that are fully fleshed out, this is NOT the book for you.

LLVs' writing has deminished in quality since she has started writing for quantity.

The current series cannot be read as stand alones as there is so much that the author assumes the reader already knows about the main characters.

The sex scene in the office while she's meant to be getting an exam is ridiculous. And do not get me started on this author's seeming obsession with anal sex.

If it wasn't for me wanting slices of life from the characters from the early books, I would honestly not purchase another LLV book.

Currently 1:35am here so I shall finish this review tomorrow when my brain is at least half functioning, This is my reminder that I have to finish it.

-Every release is always a new favourite because this author just writes fictional perfection.
Reed and Krisney are the definition of Meant to be. Young sweethearts set for a journey of heartbreak, misplaced guilt and regrets. Their journey was a struggle and at time hard to read. The level of emotion that hits you felt like a kick to the guts.

This series is getting better and better (and Lani Lynn Vale's teasing about Rafe and Dante is getting worse and worse—for us, that is), slowly approaching the big finale in form of Dante's book.
The Hail You Say offered a few flashbacks into the past so we could see how Reed and Krisney got together and how all that went to hell, one flashback into Tobias' book and one helluva (double) surprise.
I devoured their story right from the beginning. Reed and Krisney had an amazing chemistry. Even though their story wasn't full of rainbows, sunshine and unicorns, it wasn't all dark either—everything was well-balanced, the good versus the bad, the ordinary live versus the dramatic events.
I can't wait to see what happen next!

OMG THIS BOOK. It came out today and I didn't hesitate to buy it and start it. I literally read it in almost one sitting, only putting it down when I had to go to work. I absolutely loved Krisney and Reed. I loved seeing how they met, how they started dating and even how they split up. The author did such a good job showing their history along with their current day story.

This book is probably one of my favorites by the author!

Second chances and true love….

This author always manages to move the bar higher – more heat and emotion. Drama and heartache. Conflict and pain. And always, always, the ability to make me laugh even if I have tears in my eyes… The minute a title hits my kindle I’m all over it and I dove into Reed and Krisney’s story like a cat on catnip!

And this story! These two were, as always, surrounded by family and friends but this time out Reed and Krisney had centre stage most of the time. From an unexpected meeting after twelve long years of silence could have gone many ways but this encounter was a shocking surprise in more ways than one. Hot, for sure, and set the stage for the second time round of – could it be? – love?

This was a rollicking romp through highs and lows and all those good bits in between. Krisney and Reed had chemistry, sexual attraction and that little bit more that meant love had to be a part of the mix. Regardless of the many arguments and shallow evidence to the contrary. I loved these characters as they fumbled and fought their way to recover from past mistakes to forge a new, and unexpected, future. They say second time around is better and this story has me agreeing wholeheartedly!

Made me laugh:

Oh the Hails! I’ve read this whole series so far and I feel like as the stories go on, they get more drama-filled and angsty. But I’m fine with that because these Hails are an awesome family to read about and their stories just suck you in! I know Dante’s story is going to be so good and much-awaited!

Reed and Krisney were the perfect couple, until familial events make that impossible. But a connection like theirs won’t be denied even if they’re both fighting it.

Gah I NEED Dante’s story!!!

spoiler alert ** After reading all the reviews with least number of stars, spoilers and blurbs I’ve come to one conclusion about almost all the novels in this series and why I will not read this series at all.
HEROS ARE A*HOLES, HEROINES ARE PATHETIC DOORMATS WHO DONT MIND BEING TREATED LIKE SHIT. MAY CONTAIN CHEATING AND H OR AUTHOR BELIEVES ORAL SEX IS NOT CHEATING AND MORE SHIT LIKE THAT BUT ITS WELL WRITTEN. SO I AM GOING TO GIVE THEM ONE STAR AND COPY AND PASTE THIS REVIEW IN OTHER NOVELS TOO.

This story hit the right spot😜. It was light and sweet where it needed to be. And it definitely had its laughter and sexy-smut filled moments. Of course there was no lack of drama in this book which filled the rest of the book. All around it was a great book and kept my attention from start to finish. Looking forward to read Dante’s story.

If you like romance, mystery, humor, funny new words that make you spew your coffee everywhere at 4 a.m. then get this book. OMG I knew it'd be really good, but I wasn't as prepared for the emotions that overwhelmed me at times.
