Melia Ridge: A Max Blake Mystery

Rate this book
Nothing is easy ... certainly not for Max Blake and Caeli Brown, former investigative journalists and now private detective agency partners who are about to leave the comforts of Oregon's Willamette Valley for a new life on an Irish estate. But an unexpected development from their previous case, the attempted rescue of Caeli's Uncle Jack, the former Archbishop of Armagh in Northern Ireland, sends them off on a new adventure. They discover in short order that the dead can, in fact, rise again, that a corpulent evil presence lurks behind the scenes inside the walls of the Vatican in Rome, and that everything you thought you knew about the death of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas, Texas, more than 50 years isn't necessarily true. The intrepid couple face myriad dangers that include palace intrigue, clerics with guns, and a man they'd thought was dead who is not only very much alive but who also is willing to tear down the walls of the church to tell the truth.

Early reviewers describe Melia Ridge, the 6th installment in the Max Blake Mystery series, as "a terrific read with great characters"; "Fabulous. The book is so fun. It's heart-stopping and filled with tension. I found myself busting out laughing on several occasions and greatly concerned for the main players minutes later"; "The characters are believable, and the story is complicated and filled with unexpected twists."; "Without question the best book yet in the series, and that says a lot because all of the novels are wonderful reads, containing everything that a good story, well told, should tell."

A great read for lovers of mystery and conspiracy theories, "Melia Ridge" is a fun, exciting read. With loads of humor paired with action and suspense, I'd recommend this book for people who'd want a fast-paced, funny, and creative mystery novel.

My review of Melia Ridge by William Florence:

I don't normally read books about the pope and the Vatican but this book is actually pretty good, It has suspense, a little love, humor, twists and turns. You actually want to keep reading cause you want so bad to know what was happening next, at least that's how I felt. The characters are well developed and all but one I found likable. I really like Caeli's personality, I was rooting for her through the whole book. Two private detectives travel to many places to locate Caeli's Uncle Jack only to find bad luck, jerks and bullets. The synopsis of what this book is about does not do it justice. I hope to read the next book in the series if there will be one.

Thank you Wild Blue Press for the free Kindle book for my honest review.

Is there life after death? Investigators Max Blake and partner Caeli Brown find it's true for Caeli's troublesome Irish uncle Jack, a former crusading archbishop in Northern Ireland. Thought killed in a shootout, Max and Caeli get a postcard from Uncle Jack postmarked the Vatican, sending them on a wild and dangerous mission to rescue the man from the clutches of a maniacal prelate. Buried in the secret recesses of the Vatican, Uncle Jack has been ferreting though secret files that no one wants made public. Set in and around Rome and the Vatican, author Florence lavishes the story with plenty of Italian culture and language, and with his cast of unforgettable characters, offers a rollicking and highly readable adventure. The story is a winner from the get-go and left me looking for the next installment. Don't miss this one! Dan Brown, move over!

I never made it to the end despite that fact that the description intrigued me. I guess not having read the previous five mysteries, there was just no connection with the characters, and the plot actually left me a little ambivalent. May come back to this series, but with book one.
