Shipwrecked along with others and haunted by strange dreams, Marzena feels herself fading away from the world around her. Whisked away suddenly to a new world, she finds all the things she had been missing before: fear and beauty, horrors and hope, darkness and incredible light. A guiding Voice, which she recognizes from her dreams, seems to awaken from within her, leading her onward. Trying desperately to return to the other castaways, she finally succeeds, but finds herself dissatisfied. Returning to the new world she discovered, Marzena brings along a friend and fellow castaway, Sheridan. Separately and together they journey and strive and search this new world, gathering traveling companions along the way. Struggling through deafness, blindness, and general hopelessness, Marzena nevertheless leads others as she follows the Voice to the things for which they are all searching.
