--- The lumberjack of his dreams is now available for rent. ---

Mr. B has always been a safe guy for Jo to crush on. He’s the cutest bearded lumber-god to salivate over. Add to that his friendly, outgoing personality, and Mr. B might just be the first guy Jo would be willing to kiss. Fortunately, Mr. B has been in a relationship for years, and Jo is no home-wrecker.

But when Mr. B breaks up with his partner and all of a sudden is single, available, and talks about his plans to be sexually adventurous, Jo isn’t so sure anymore if he has the guts to come out as bisexual.

After a sour breakup, Mr. B wants to show his ex that he’s independent, exciting, and can do very well without him. His best friend Jo is there to the rescue, and they come up with a great new business venture. One thing they lack to start their own line of artisanal boozy jams - money for the investment.

After a drunken brainstorming session, Mr. B finds a way to both gather the cash and show the middle finger to his ex. He will create a one of a kind Hipster Brothel - The Lumbersexual Experience - offering wood chopping lessons, pipe smoking, and a reclaimed wood bed where the magic happens. It’s bound to be a success… if only Mr. B can go through with it, because the mixed signals from Jo are making him wonder if his best friend is as straight as he always seemed.

Thick wool socks, suspenders, plaid shirts, and a beard that occasionally catches crumbs: Mr. B is the modern version of a lumberjack.

He does CrossFit and makes boozy jam. He's tall and broad and LOOKS intimidating. But he's the biggest softie inside.

Jo, the hip & cool to Mr. B's cozy, can't help but crush on Mr. B. Jo is (secretly) bi, and being bi is (according to Jo, at least) complicated, so he sticks to girls.

But when Mr. B breaks up with his long-term boyfriend, Mr. A, Jo can't resist any longer. In a moment of impulsive bravery, fueled by lust and desperation, he buries his face in Mr. B's crotch.

It's a bold move.

Mr. B doesn't say no. Instead, he hears wedding bells in his head.

But Mr. B still plans on opening a brothel catering to men seeking a lumberjack sexual experience. With Jo's help, he's renovating an old train car, trying to make it nice and inviting. Jo HATES the idea, but B won't be deterred.

Mr. B and Jo have been best friends for years, but Mr. B never suspected Jo was bi—not until the crotch incident. That was a dead giveaway.

Jo digs Mr. B, but he's worried about coming out; he doesn't want the attention. And Mr. B can't do casual.

Right. Cause nothing screams commitment like running a brothel.

Don't let the word "brothel" in the title scare you. This is the sweetest damn book. It's funny and adorable and SEXY.

All the secondary characters are awesome. I was giving B's ex, Mr. A, the side eye for a while, but once I heard his side of the story I could see where he was coming from.

Jo's mom also rocks; the scene where she catches Jo in bed with B is utterly hilarious. She walks in on her "straight" son naked with another man; her biggest concern? How much money Jo spends on shoes.

I admit the name Mr. B is awkward. It got stuck in my head at first, but it grows on you, I promise. It's all Mr. A's fault anyway.

Includes: a wooly sock fetish; sex in the wild; a very special Workout of the Day; and a shout-out to a Polish bakery (because nothing says I love you like rosehip jam donuts).

With the word Brothel in the title you'd be forgiven for thinking this one might be a bit hard core-but it's not,it's actually quite sweet and endearing.Nothing like the more gritty, dark books these Authors normally write.

Jo and Mr B have been friends for years.Jo is bi and has secretly been crushing on Mr B for ages but would never act upon his feelings when Mr B was in a relationship. So what happens when that relationship ends and Mr B has to walk away from his job, working for his ex.

Mr B has a plan....he wants to start making alcoholic jams but has no money to fund it so he needs to come up a money making scheme quickly. One drunken night the idea of starting a Hipster Brothel is born.Perfect,or so Mr B thinks. He can make money giving men the whole lumbersexual experience and show his ex he's not needy and get to experience casual sex himself. The only problem is Mr B is not really that kind of man. He's more likely to cuddle on the sofa that entertain men on a regular basis.

Jo,initially, helps with the whole idea but the more Mr B forges ahead with the idea, the more Jo goes off
the idea.He really doesn't want Mr B entertaining anyone but him.The two men dance around each other until one night things change.
Jo has never been with a man before, although he has been curious and has tried pegging before ( I had no idea and had to Google that! )

Jo struggles with the idea of being gay which leads to a bit of angst in the form of miscommunication between them.As well as being sweet this was so funny at times. The dreadful flyers Mr B makes and a shambolic website....

Highly recommended for a light hearted sexy read with two men that just fit together perfectly.

"The position they were in reminded Jo of a couple playing golf or baseball in a romantic comedy, but it was probably part of the cheesy appeal of the experience."

The two phrases in this line by the author perfectly describe my reading experience. The first half was purely like watching a romantic comedy movie, where things were cute, just way beyond the realms of imagination. But the second half started off on a note of erotica, ending with way too cheesiness for me to digest.

I wanted to love this, as I really adored Mr. B. But it was too hard to connect with anything. Everything seemed as if it wasn't meant to be taken seriously.

Hipster Brothel was delightfully adorkable. This is a fun read, folks. Low on the angst, high on cuteness and cuddly lumberjack bears. A friends to lovers story that is supremely enjoyable. Plus, boozy jam. I want some of that!

Mr B is a beefy, bearded, cuddly, teddy bear of a man. He's sweet, loyal, and is pretty damn handy. He builds furniture, he upcycles things in clever ways, he makes fruity booze and delicious jams. He's been doing CrossFit for a few years to keep fit, and that is where he met Jo Lau.

Jo is slightly younger than Mr B's 28 years. He's Chinese, has long dark hair and prefers edgy styles for clothing. And he lives with his mom, but that's just economical. Jo and Mr B are a lot different, but they're best friends and neither can imagine life without the other.

After Mr B breaks up with his longtime boyfriend, Mr A (there's actually a point to the nicknames), he feels kind of lost. For several years he's lived with, worked with and had a relationship with Mr A and now? He has none of those things. He's moved into a train car he has on some land his brother owns and he's working on making it livable. Jo comes over to commiserate and they get a bit drunk on booze that Mr B made and brainstorm about what Mr B can do, now. Drunk brainstorming is dangerous, my friends. Dangerous.

So what do Jo and Mr B come up with? Combining Mr B's homemade booze and his homemade jam -- boozy jam! Now, that is brilliant and I would order lots of this. Breakfast would become infinitely more awesome with boozy jam for my toast. But, there's a bit of a problem -- Mr B doesn't have the capital to make and market the boozy jam. Ok…so they brainstorm and brainstorm and the Hipster Brothel idea is born. Yep, Mr B is going to sell the Lumbersexual Experience. Ok, so I admit, this is also a brilliant idea. But not for Mr B.

Mr B is a relationship kind of guy. He can't do open relationships and needs a connection to his lover. Becoming a specialized escort, just does not fit with his personality, at all. But he wants to try new things and be adventurous and have casual sex (really he doesn't, though). So he marches ahead with this plan, fixing up the train cars he has and creating a lovely outdoor space so he has somewhere to entertain his…guests.

If Mr B got his real wish, though, his best friend Jo wouldn't be straight because Mr B has been crushing on Jo for ages. But Jo is straight, so that's no dice. Well, Mr B, Jo is not really straight!

Jo is actually bisexual, but he's never acted on it. He watches gay porn, fantasizes about guys (especially Mr B) and loves being pegged by his girlfriends. But he's never liked a guy enough to act on it, or come out at all, until Mr B. And since B was attached, Jo trained himself to not act on it. But now that Mr B is single? Well, that opens up a new set of complications, and Jo doesn't want to be a rebound lover.

Parts of Hipster Brothel were pretty damn comical. Mr B and Jo dance around each other a bit much, but in trying to discourage this new business venture, Jo ends up encouraging it -- Jo should take note that reverse psychology isn't optimal for Mr B.

And after acting on his desires for Mr B, Jo says all the wrong things and sends some seriously mixed signals and Mr B, who is a pleaser at heart, tries to navigate the new waters with his best friend, but he's not as assertive as he needs to be, either. There was actually a bit too much miscommunication for my general tastes, but they do finally get it together and they have some amazingly hot sexy-times, and I really loved it.

Plus, we get a gorgeous HEA with no doubt at all that our guys are in it for the long haul.

Recommended!

Admittedly, Merikan typically makes me wary and anxious and many of their stories just aren’t my thing. However, there have been a few I’ve enjoyed (ie. Diary of a Teenage Taxidermist) and when they do sweet and simple, I’m a huge fan.

This is exactly that. Easy, sexy, with a good amount of explicit and (light) dirty, this was a very nice friends to lovers story with the added bonus of gentle giant yumminess!

Toss in a bit of cluelessness, a bfy/ofy setting with some in the closet vibes, and finish it with minimal angst and overall feel good feels!

If you’re looking for typical Merikan, then this probably won’t appeal as this is very mainstream contemporary MM romance, one in which I quite enjoyed!

Hipster Brothel

--- The lumberjack of his dreams is now available for rent. ---

A little snippet from the WiP:

"If I just frame it right, get a sleek website, professional photos, I could sell this as ‘The Lumberjack Experience’.” Mr. B wiggled his eyebrows.

Jo grinned and sipped some more of the fruity booze. “I could do a test ride for you.”

Mr. B snorted so hard he spat out some crumbs. “That sounds so dirty. It’s an experience, not a hipster brothel!”

Jo grinned and pushed at Mr. B’s arm gently. “Hipster brothel? How would that work? As a pop-up at your local farmer’s market?”

Mr. B wouldn’t stop laughing, and he drank more of the sweet booze. “A pop-up brothel! I love that. I’ve got a tagline! ‘Bring Your Own Wood’.”

What we have here is a train car converted to suit a hipster brothel's needs, boozy jams, and The Lumbersexual Experience! Sounds crazy, yes? Well, it was kinda crazy, but somehow it made sense, and by the end of the story, everything just clicked.

This is a friends-to-lovers story. The "Hipster Brothel" is the result of a drunken brainstorming session, after Mr.B's nasty breakup with his long-term boyfriend. That's right, Mr. B will no longer be boring. He's gonna offer his future clients the ultimate lumbersexual experience: wood chopping, pipe smoking, and fucking a lumberjack.

Who is he kidding? Mr.B is the sweetest, cuddliest, gentlest teddy bear there is. He just doesn't have it in him to become an escort. He's a relationship kind of guy, and a monogamist. His best friend, Jo, knows that but he has his own selfish reasons for not putting a stop to this.

You see, Jo is bisexual, and in love with Mr.B, but he won't admit it. Jo and Mr.B both let their insecurities screw things up for them. Jo is closeted and has never been with a man before, and Mr.B is maybe too gentle and compliant for his own good. Until he isn't.

I really loved this sweet and quirky story. I liked the push and pull between the two protagonists, and I understood Jo's struggle with coming out; it felt true and realistic. And I cheered Mr.B on for finally standing his ground and staying true to himself.

This is pretty low angst, adorkable, and hella sexy. The epilogue two years down the road was the cherry on top.

If someone could come up with the idea of a Hipster Brothel, that would be K.A.Merikan. Recommended!

I just never really got in sync with this.

This book wasn't at all what I expected and I'll admit I struggled a lot especially early on.
It opens with Jo cycling out to see his best friend Mr. B (the hipster lumberjack) so I'm expecting a tall alpha male of drool worthy proportions what we get is a tall muscled man (so far so good) wearing a lumpy yellow pullover, the one he wears when he's not feeling well. His five year relationship has ended along with his job and he's distraught and needs his friends positive outlook and so they start drinking and looking for ideas for the future and the Lumbersexual Experience is born, Mr. B decides to sell himself along with the whole lumberjack experience to get the funds to start making jams, he likes sex and he's got a great body so what could possibly go wrong?
I'm so used to having a strong alpha male that I struggled with all the doubt:
'Mr. B frowned, and flinched when worry sank its icy fingers into his stomach. Was Jo having second thoughts? Was he regretting what they’d done?'
'He frowned, trying not to give in to the panic chain reaction exploding all over his body.'
'No. Mr. A was right. He was too clingy.'
'Mr. B wished he could just eat himself to death with the pretzels and not have to confront the sinking feeling inside his chest.'
Obviously this isn't a serious read and it took me awhile to adjust to that, Mr. B is cute, cuddly and absolutely adorable, he's sweet and so desperate to be loved and I loved him for it, Jo is the straight guy who's been attracted to Mr. B since they first met and he's a great character.
Their relationship grows and the sex is hot and the whole braces, shorts and homemade flyers were funny but it kind of missed the mark for me.
The fault lies totally at my feet it's a good book but I never really settled into it.

4 hearts!

I personally find hipsters are hilarious individuals. It's so entertaining to hear about all the ways they make themselves unique as a group, but when it comes down to it, they're very creative! I loved all the hipster elements of this story, definitely entertaining.... boozy jams, rosehip donuts… so hipster.

This was an overall cute and fun friends-to-lovers story. I super loved these guy’s easy friendship and connection. I loved Mr B, like everyone else will! He's is the biggest, cutest, cuddly teddy bear ever. Sexy as hell as well!!!!!

Forget about wearing your heart on your sleeve, Mr B wears his on his forehead, so everyone can always see it! I loved how he was planning his wedding the moment after he found out Jo was bisexual, so cute!

Jo… now he is more complicated than Mr B but man, his style and general coolness sounds amazing!

Jo however is where this lost points for me. He just annoyed me too much with his fear of being labelled bisexual or gay. I mean I get it, he did justify it fairly well, but that doesn't mean I wasn't still annoyed.

Also, now that he wouldn’t be seen as a straight guy, his clothing choices would all be pinned to his sexuality, not his edgy fashion sense, and that struck right at who he was.
He was cool, and he was stylish, and it had nothing to do with who he slept with.

Maybe is was accentuated even more because Mr B is just so open, honest and vulnerable that I found it harder to read about Jo's actions.

Mr. B walked up to Jo with that wide smile, holding the flowers, still catching his breath after the bike ride, and before Jo knew what was happening, Mr. B leaned down and gave him a kiss.
His warm lips were gone in half a second, and yet time seemed to stop, everyone seemed to have gone quiet, even the music seemed muted. Was everyone looking at them?

The drama did work itself out fairly quickly and I do feel that Jo made up for all his stupid attitudes, so that's good. Oh and that HEA, that is the stuff of romances!!!!!

On a side note, of course this sex is hot. It's a Merikan story. And here we have a big ol’ bottom slut and I love those :-D.

This was a fun and pleasant read, I had a lot of fun reading it, nothing really struck me as amazing though.

description

3.5 hipster stars rounded up to 4 because still no 1/2 stars here on GR and funky train car homes deserve stars too.

This one was sweet and I really enjoyed it...

I just didn't "LOVE" it. 'Hipster Brothel' is a cute story about two men...total opposites for all outward appearances. Mr. B, yes that is his name of choice. Mr. B 's relationship with his partner of several years on both a personal and professional level has recently ended so he's at a bit of a personal and professional crossroads.

It's after spending an evening with his supposedly straight, best friend and secret crush...Jo, that Mr. B and Jo decide that they're going into business together making boozie jams. This is all well and good except they need finances for said business and in a less than sober state of mind Mr. B decides that he should open a 'hipster brothel' to raise finances and expand his sexual experience by offering client's the lumbersexual experience.

From this admittedly questionable decision springs an avalanche of miscommunication between Mr. B and his bestie Jo. Who might also have a secret crush of his own. Jo is Asian and wears his long dark hair in a bun and his unique sense of fashion only adds to his appeal and if you ask Mr. B he's hot...seriously H-O-T! and s-t-r-a-i-g-h-t and therefore unavailable. Jo's never admitted his bisexuality to anyone because until Mr. B there's never been anyone worth doing it for.

One of the things that threw me off kilter was the whole Mr. A and Mr. B monikers. It just sounded weird and while I had thought it would eventually just seem like a character quirk and I'd be ok with it...this just never quite happened. I did like both Jo and Mr. B. I just didn't click with them the way I have other characters. I did however really like that their friendship was solid and the biggest reason that they were able to work out their miscommunications and find their the relationship that they both really wanted.

I liked the lack of family drama over both Mr. B and Jo's sexuality and enjoyed that Mr. A turned out to be not such a bad person at the end of it all and I developed a whole new appreciation for warm, woolly socks. But, I think my favorite part of the story though was Mr. B's living accommodations I've long been a fan of quirky and unusual homes and I admit to spending an extraordinary amount of time on my computer googling images of train cars that have been converted to homes (you should go peek at Ele's review on GR for a look at a really cute one).

'Hipster Brothel' was definitely a light, cute, fun and enjoyable read and while I admittedly wasn't WOWed by it, I was certainly entertained and enjoyed the light hearted and unique quirkiness of this story.

Reread this one and upped my rating as my appreciation of lumberjack types has increased over the years!

It's ridiculously cute.

Original review below.

***

This is the usual excellent quality you'd expect from the talents of these two authors but as I'm not really into the whole bearded, moustache-ioed plaid wearing outdoorsy types, I found it harder to get into the bones of the story.

In fact, the very idea of a long and flowing beard makes me cringe so the wonderful descriptions of Mr B and his assets, while outlined as being a glorious 5 for Jo, made me want to fetch a pair of clippers.

Still, that being said, there is a beautiful, wholesome element to this book and the idea of coming out on an alcoholic jam jar label really tickled me.

Great, well-written romance and much improved on my second read through!

An enjoyable read but probably not my favorite from these authors as it lacked a little something. I'm not sure that I made a full connection with Jo & Mr B and I think the use of the name Mr B and not his first name messed with me.

5 Fluffy non-ironic Hearts

This was full of fluffy lumbersexual, hipster goodness and I want to marinate in the fluff until I drink craft beers and move to a train car in the middle of nowhere that has a hot tub and a tobacco bar.

Seriously. I hugged it out with my Nook just a few minutes ago because this book makes me wanna cuddle the fuck out of something and since Jo and Mr. B are in my Nook, we had to have a few intimate moments.

Straight forward with a simple review.

Mr. B broke up with his bearded silver fox boyfriend Mr. A. Jo has been BFF’s with B since they met at CrossFit over the WOD and both men are in way over their heads with the feels but neither of them lets it be known. When they have some homemade booze one night, they get the idea of turning the train car into a brother with Mr. B being an escort and getting a chance to sow his wild bearded, barrel chested oats.
This place will be a steaming hot inferno of lust once I’m done with it.

But you see, there is a flaw in this plan because there is a steaming vintage cup of unrequited feelings going on with Jo and Mr. B and when Jo says he’s going to help B build the Lumbersexual Experience, Jo realizes he needs to test drive the tour.

GOODNESS! This was super freaking fracking hot but with the authors, you come to expect that. It was so hot but it was also so tender and full of emotion that you almost felt intrusive when the men get intimate. I say almost because regardless of how sweet their sex was, it was just dirty enough for my inner perv to tell my hopeless romantic to STFU and watch closely. Yep. Mmm Hmm. *grunts*

So anyway. These two were so cute and I just want to hug the hell out of Mr. B on numerous occasions with how sweet he is an how he treats Jo and Jo…JO JO JO! Lord, boy you had me twisted in knots with how floppy you were with you owning all of your sexuality and yet, watching you struggle and then come to a conclusion so like romantic movie style fruition I couldn’t be mad. I mean, when you tell Mr. B what you liked with your girlfriends and how you tell Juniper and what you do for Mr. B… how could I ever be mad?
Being with him was such a revelation that Jo clung to it every day, still overwhelmed by how he’d gotten so lucky.

That end bit was hot AF and again, super swoony and just so Mr. B and Jo that it was beyond perfect. But then there is an epilogue and OMG I need to go squish something because this book gave me all the fluff feelings.

DAWWW! This was just so GOOD! The puns were totes punny and really, the hipster bits were hilarious because… hipsters, and yet kind annoying because I do some of it. Maybe I am part hipster after all but I wouldn’t appreciate the decorations over the bed in the train car.
Okay. I am done. Gonna go find someone to hug the hell out of now and maybe pet while I pretend they are Mr. B.

Honestly, I'm somewhat disappointed. I never felt a connection to the MCs, never really got grabbed from the story.
First of all, I had a problem with the name of one MC. It really felt weird to me, that he's called Mr. B throughout the book. It just didn't fit to his immature character. And this was my main problem. According to the book Mr. B is 28 and Jo 25 years old, but all their behavior, the thoughts and dialogues felt to me as if I were reading a story about teenagers.

So only 2,5 sad stars for me.

Mr. B is the cutest carebear in the world, I never thought I was going to say something like that about someone that is not Seth but Mr.B is way cuter and I want him to hug me and protect me and make me delicious jams.

The story starts with Mr. B after the break up with his long time boyfriend, he had to quit his job too because they were working together so he needs a change. He needs to be more adventurous and he needs to come up with a new business so after a few drinks he comes up with the idea of turning his old train cars into a brothel, a hipster brothel.

description

Jo has been Mr. B's best friend for a few years now and has had a crush on him for just as long but he has kept quiet about it, people don't even know that he's actually bisexual because he has never dared to do anything with a man, he never felt attracted enough until Mr. B.
Now Jo has a chance but there are a few things in the way, Mr. B doesn't know he's into guys and Mr. B is very excited with the brothel idea so what is Jo going to do?

description

The story deals with not Only the relationship between Mr. B and Jo but Jo Struggle not with his sexuality but being open and proud about it. It deals with how B moves on and how he realizes that every story has two sides and his past relationship with Mr. A does too, he wasn't always perfect.
I liked how everything was dealt with even if I was annoyed with Jo but it was a nice way to make the brothel thing work so I'm ok with his dumb actions.

This book was everything I didn't knew I need it in my life. I read everything Kat and Agnes come up with because I got to the point were I realized they could come up with the most crazy idea and I would probably enjoy it. When I heard about this book I thought it was going to be a sex fest, I had no idea what to expect about the romance but they did it again. they surprised me and gave me a great story.
This is definitely the cutest story written by K.A and in the end I was confused becaused I wanted more but at the same time the book was very complete even if it was short, I'm just greedy I guess.

I would love a MR. A book but no complains if it doesn't happen, I just love their books and I could read 1 every week.

"Nothing makes a relationship as steady as a jam label."

Quite the interesting title for this book.

The plot was kinda ridiculous with what Mr. B wanted to do, and why, but I just went with it.

Hipster Brothel did made for unique, quirky and adorkable story.

I found Mr. B (Bernard) and Jo charming. I do wish they could have shared each other's thoughts more instead of jumping to conclusions, and have fallings out. They worked it out in the end, and there was the cutest epilogue.

That's right. You in just your socks, wrapped in a blanket, and drinking hot cocoa. I am so kinky."

Am I the only one who got an chessy evil villain vibe from the names in this story? I literally was waiting on one of them to give a speech on how good will always prevail evil! LOL. It is a Merikan book after all. Nonetheless, I really did enjoy this story. It was a steamy hot friends to lovers story with some hipsters. I adore the hipsters and beards!

**Groans**, here goes with the names.

Mr. B is recently broken up with his partner of a subsequent amount of years. He moves to his brother's land and resides in a train car, and now think of ways to reinvents himself. He is told that's he to clingy in a relationship and mostly bored. I refuse to call them by initial any longer in this review. Bernard is broken-hearted, and calls his best friend Jo. Not knowing that Jo has been crushing on him for the last 2 years. Unbeknownst to Bernard, Jo is accepting his bi-curious and really wanting Bernard. He doesn't want to over step his boundaries because it is his friend, and he is not in the right frame of mind. Well a night of artisanal food, and homemade moonshine opens up to new possibilities between the two.

From there on out feelings get put on blast, and steamy sex scenes ensue. The exes show up in the picture, and I did enjoy seeing each ex. I think that part of the story was able to bring more realism to the story. Its a friends to lover story, which I also found myself laughing. Really entertaining. I did find myself wanting to slap Arnold a bunch of times. He was kinda rude, but I think him breaking up with Bernard was the best thing for both of them.

I enjoyed that it was dual pov, and really liked seeing Jo not only come to terms with his sexuality, but figure out his ish and what he was going to do about it now. I liked Jo's mom, and wish we could have gotten that Sunday brunch meeting. I think it would have been lovely. Whatever you say about the Merikan ladies, you can't say they don't know how to write a steamy sex scene. They know how to produce some heat in your loins for sure. LOL. I really liked it, and definitely one of the lighter books they've ever written. Really recommend this book, and look forward to more.

4.5 Donut Loving Stars

This was quick read but I loved it. I honestly didn't even read the synopsis. It's K.A. Merikan so I was in no matter what. From the title I thought we were going to get a hard-core sex ride but I was pleasantly surprised to read this fun, lovable story.

Mr. B is just YUMM!! I fell in love with him immediately. He had just gotten out of a relationship and didn't want to settle for anything less than he deserved.

Jo was so cute too and I really felt his struggle with trying to come out completely. His love for Mr. B shined through.

Only minor angst in this book, but still enough to keep me interested. I love me some angst!!

Funny, sweet, and very endearing. The sex? Off the charts. Way off. Two loveable men, each unique in their own way, find lasting friendship. Lotsa perving going on for some time between these two but they don't act on it. That's when you find out that dignity, class, and true friendship are total turn-ons. That's when I fell in love.

Friends to lovers. Bi-curious to bisexual. Presented well and believable. Funny also. You gotta lighten up sometimes. Hipster Brothel does just that. Easily worth the price of admission.

This might be the most normal book I read of KA Merikan yet. I'm so used to the authors craziness that I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop while I'm reading this. Alas, this is quite straight forward, sweet and full of cuteness with two beta heroes.

I want to point out that Mr. B doesn't feel like the man on the cover. The cover model looks like an alpha lumberjack and Mr. B is more like a panda bear. Mr. B was recently dumped by his long term boyfriend and to make a fresh start, he decided to start a new artisan jam business with his bff, Jo and in order to raise the fund, he wanted to be an ESCORT! Dayum.

This is the time whereby I had to admit I had a weakness to buffy and hairy man in real life. In fact, I married one. I'm not sure whether Mr. B's pillowy abs, beardy face and hairy legs is everyone cup of tea, but he is totally my kind of beverage.

Jo is a Chinese, but the story didn't actually emphasize on his ethnicity that much. He had been crushing on Mr. B for the longest time and having a girlfriend means nobody know he is actually bi. With Jo and Mr. B being single together for the first time, Jo contemplate his next moves. Should he or should he not jeopardize their friendship?

Despite the title Hipster Brothel, there isn't any actually escorting taking place. Phew! This is a quirky sweet romance between two friends turned lovers. There are some uncertainty before they confess their feelings for each other, but due to the short length of the book, things progress quite swiftly. There isn't any high drama or intense feelings, but these two are simply too adorable.

A sexy, sweet, humorous and highly entertaining read. K.A. Merikan just never fail to deliver stories as unique as the characters in them. In Hipster Brothel, you’ll realise you never know in just how many ways you could use a jam, a train car and a woody pun…

I hereby pledge undying devotion to Mr. B! Simple (but not stupid) in many ways his optimism, sweetness and endearing naivety had my heart physically aching. I had cute rage with Mr. B; the in-suppressible emotion experienced upon sight of something so unbelievably cute that it causes the brain to overload and create a sensation of rage at the world for having created a creature so incomprehensibly adorable and not placed it directly in your lap. I WANT ONE OF MY OWN AND OMG HE’S SO PRECIOUS I WANT TO RIP HIS HEAD OFF!!

Jo, who is equally loveable, has had a long-time crush on Mr. B (I can relate) and is quite unsure on how to navigate the new dynamic in their relationship. There is just something special about the first tentative flirtations and uncertain actions in MM romance between two people who are so unsure of not only their own feelings, but that of their crush that I’m completely addicted to and these two hit all the right marks.

Hipster Brothel is a light-hearted, impossibly endearing read with all the good feelings crammed into its pages. If you are in serious need of a few laughs and the warm-and-fuzzies, I absolutely recommend this book!

2 stars... I am having a hard time putting in words how this story made me feel while reading. Both characters annoyed me, TBH. I kept reading because of who the authors are, but this book drove me a little crazy.

If someone actually behaves like the men in this story, I have never met them...unless they were 12 year olds. I mean, who decides to open a brothel on a whim and sell themselves? What about all the other "jobs" these two dream up? That was hard enough to grasp. Then having two characters who go by Mr. A & Mr. B -- Yet again, I have thoughts of teenagers.

Just way too much, it was almost slapstick stupid comedy. Not what I have come to expect and crave from K.A. Merikan.

So, overall-- A miss for me. I just didn't enjoy. 😕

Not my cup of tea.

I gave this book a wobbly 3 stars. It was kind of a weird read for me. I guess when you are use to the ladies written works like "Guns & Boys" or "Cattery" and then you read something like this, it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I know they are two different works but the story line could have been better.
