Alien Frog Prince

Rate this book
It’s not easy being green and unloved. Can an amphibious prince woo a socially awkward human?

A rueful royal...

Prince Zakrom feels like everyone on Granota has found their One — their beloved for life — except him. His worried parents send him to visit Earth, hoping it will distract him from his solitude. Zak finds more than a distraction: Jennifer, the lovely human at the Interstellar Embassy, is his One! But surely such a beautiful creature can’t be interested in a strange-looking alien like him.

A diplomatic dilemma...

With the Ambassador called away on urgent business, Jen’s in a panic at being left in charge of the Prince’s visit. She loves learning about alien cultures, but somehow missed the file on the Granotans and is totally unprepared. If she blunders too badly, she could cause a diplomatic incident or even trigger an attack on Earth!

A galactic gambit...

But despite her constant gaffes, the Prince doesn’t seem upset. In fact, he seems to like her… rather a lot. When he invites her to visit his planet, will this unlikely couple finally have the chance to share an enchanted Kiss that will change everything?

Alien Frog Prince is 20,000 words of sweet, clean romance, with NO swearing, graphic violence, or explicit sexual content. For a limited time, it includes an extra book: Beauty and the Space Beast at no extra charge!

**Read for #buzzwordathon. April prompt: Space Words**

Lighthearted. Fast paced. Written in 3rd person, past tense.

This is not only a quick romantic sci-fi retelling of The Princess and the Frog, it is a soulmates story.

Prince Zakrom of Granota, unlike everyone around him, still hasn't found his One, his beloved for life. After travelling to many planets with no luck, he's been left feeling miserable, grouchy, and hopeless.

His worried parents, who still haven't given up, send him to visit Earth on diplomatic matters, hoping it will distract him from his solitude. Zak finds more than a distraction: Jennifer, the lovely human at the Interstellar Embassy, is his One! But surely such a beautiful creature can’t be interested in a strange-looking alien like him.

With the Ambassador called away on urgent business, Jen’s in a panic at being left in charge of the Prince’s visit. She loves learning about alien cultures, but somehow missed the file on the Granotans and is totally unprepared. If she blunders too badly, she could cause a diplomatic incident or even trigger an attack on tiny Earth! But despite her constant gaffes, the Prince doesn’t seem upset. In fact, he seems to like her… rather a lot. When he invites her to visit his planet, will this unlikely couple finally have the chance to share an enchanted Kiss that will change everything?

It is unusual to see fairytale retellings as sci-fi, but how the authors played Prince Zakrom's froggy appearance, and subsequent "magical" physical change of the original, into an entire alien people was really clever!

The reason I can't give it more is due to there not being enough time for them to convincingly fall in love. I mean, you can convince me characters are in love in a short story, I just mean the focus of the writing and the fact the 2 characters are in completely different wavelengths makes it hard.

Clumsy Jennifer knows nothing of Granota's culture and is worried about offending the prince and getting him to sign the agreement. Maybe if she knew, she'd have an easier time identifying what she's feeling as the soulmate thing, alongside how he's acting towards her.

The authors could have worked the effects of their bound harder to make the reader swoon. If you've read soulmate aus, you know what I mean. And yes, keeping it clean. The pull, the puzzle pieces fitting, the common ground soulmates should have as well as balancing each other out.

Anyway, the story is not that deep. But I find issue with Prince Zakrom's view on his appearance, how repulsive he finds himself! He has such a negative view on his race's body and looks before the Kiss! Not every Granotan has a soulmate from another planet, therefore not all of them will change out of their birth amphibian appearance!

He appreciates the looks of all those who have absorbed their mate's characteristics and he finds Jennifer gorgeous too, of course. As the prince of an entire race, this point of view, where foreign attributes are beautiful but not him is problematic and just plain sad.

I also don't know about you, but when creating entire new races, authors write poetry about how amazing, beautiful, blablabla humans, compared to the other races, or make these races put humans above them... I just don't like it. Races should be able to be proud and enjoy their attributes! It pisses me off even more when a human gets all offended when another race doesn't find humans attractive. Do you ask horses if they find sharks attractive? It seems to come from this pride and need to make humans the special last cookie in the box.

I received a free copy from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

There's something about this series that makes it a lot of fun to read. They aren't the best books, but I do always enjoy reading them and look forward to the next book in the series. And Alien Frog Prince was no different. It was a quick and fun read and I enjoyed reading it. I did have some issues with the book, but overall these books are just great if you're looking for a short and short and fun read with a happy ending.

It's a pretty short read, which means there isn't much time to get into depth about anything. The characters do have a bit of personality, but you don't get to know them in more depth. The romance developed quite quickly. Because of the fated mates type of trope this did make sense, but it still felt very quickly as they fall in love in a few hours time basically. The conflict and any things that stand in their way get resolved a bit too easily. And I thought the main point of this book namely him being ugly was dealt with a bit too easily and didn't really seem like a big deal. If I remember correctly that was part of the main plot in the original story, right?

But despite those things, it's still a fun read. I liked how part of this was set on earth, but the other part on an alien planet named Granota and the planet seemed kinda alien too. It was nice trying to visualize how everything looked and I thought the whole concept of the Granota people changing in appearance after they kiss their fated mate was a fun twist. I did have some questions about how exactly it worked and how half Granota kids would look then, which didn't got answered. But the focus of this book is on the two main characters getting their happy ending.

To summarize: if you're looking for a fun and short fairytale retelling set in space I would recommend this series. I did have some issues with this book as it was pretty short and lacked some depth at parts, but overall it was still a fun book to read. I liked reading about the Granota aliens and it was interesting how their appearance changed after they kissed their fated mate. The romance moves very slowly, as the book takes place in a little under a day. And we don't get to know as much about the characters, world and aliens as I would've liked to, but it was an enjoyable read. And I liked how we got enough description of the Granota planet that I could visualize how it looked.

A fun short story of an age old tale that was quite enjoyable. The frog prince has never been one of my favorites but this one is. It is nice that the bonus book "Beauty and the Space Beast" is also a fun twist on a favorite book.

This was the first book I read from this author and I have to say I was so amazed, I immediately read another one and bought the remaining four.
I know, it sounds weird considering the paradoxical title and the cover which does not really show a frog-man, but keep in mind that here we have some of the traditional fairy tales re-told in futuristic, Sci Fi fashion.
The author took the main plot from the original fairy tale and translated it into interstellar world with the main female character Jennifer, Jen, being from the future Earth and the Prince Zakrom, Zak, from a far away planet. The romance is beautiful and the chemistry between the characters is undeniable. The author managed to preserve the clean nature of the story so it reads well for all ages.
Just like the original story, the world is just there and the that is where the story starts. Normally the lack of world building would bother me, but not here, because all I needed to know was there. The character development was really good as was the romantic build-up. I am curious though, whether the stories overlap and whether they are situated in the same universe. I guess I will find out soon enough.
What I need to mention is the modern twist the author added here, and I hope it is the same twist I will see in the rest of the books in the series, the female lead is a strong, capable, independent modern woman who does not need a handsome rich knight or prince to save her. She may be clumsy at times, but she is more than capable of taking care of herself. My favourite detail of the story was not how the Prince looked but how he made her feel. And that is something that will leave a very positive message once you finish the book. Unlike the traditional fairy tales, it does not encourage helpless incapable women, sitting and waiting for Prince Charming, but independent, self-sufficient, hard working women who are not afraid to take action.
This is the third book in the series, but it reads perfectly well as a standalone. The Star-Crossed Tales books were published in the following order: The Prince and the Cyborg (Star-Crossed Tales #1, later re-published as sixth book The Little Cyborg), Beauty and the Space Beast (Star-Crossed Tales #2), Alien Frog Prince (Star-Crossed Tales, #3), Cinderstellar (Star-Crossed Tales #4), Lady and the Space Tramp (Star-Crossed Tales #5), The Little Cyborg (Star-Crossed Tales #6, which is the first story The Prince and The Cyborg re-published), and Planet Neverland. I hope there will be more.

Very tame, short story. The h is a mess, disorganised and rather stupid. She is also the H's One. He is an alien visiting earth, if she kisses him, he will transform from an ugly frog like alien to a handsome prince. Hmmm, both characters were weak people and the story didn't capture my interest.

Though short, I enjoyed the space-age twist on an old classic. It's a bit difficult to actually get invested in the characters, because the story focuses more on their bond and how one knows exactly what's happening, and the other is clueless. Overall, it's a cute read.

I don't normally read romance because they tend to be risqué and distort my perception over time. This, however, was cute and clean, which I was very thankful for. It was also a quick read, which means that it grabbed my attention from the start.

I'm looking forward to reading more of this series, as well as more from this author.

READIT! READIT!
This was such a romantic story -
Humor, romance, a little angst -not much just enough to make the good parts that much better
Oh and a little subterfuge; but I am letting it go since I think he had his heart in the right place

He was looking for his princess - His One
She was just trying to get through another day without bumbling up more of her life
But oh does she just do that and so much more!
If you are looking for an enjoyable lunch time, or break time, short read - this is it!
I received advanced readers copy for review consideration.

I liked this book. It's a cute take on a fairytale story. The Prince was so defeated by his looks and the idea that he would never be Changed because no one could love a hideous creature like him. Jen was refreshing. I liked that her POV didn't mention looks other than a factual description of what she saw. It's amazing how often we've been bombarded by others' ideals that we immediately feel that EVERYONE feels the same way. Short and sweet.

It was sweet, simple, clean, quick read. That gave us a disorganized woman that had mad research skills but on this one occasion she really needed those skills. She failed. Epic-ally or did she. She plays host to a visiting alien prince and gets flustered and tries a bit too hard to compensate. Things move along and before long its the end.

When I receive a free book asking for review I try to write something in an honest form.

I wasn’t sure if I would like this book, since I’ve read quite a few “okay” books for the last few months, and was a bit nervous if I would like this one due to how short it was. This is a retailing of the Frog Prince with an Alien twist. I liked how the story developed, enjoyed the vision of the couples character development, and loved the visions it created. A few notes that were bothersome, one which was that Zac referred to himself as a frog. As we are given that he has no idea what Earths animals are, he would not consider himself a frog. Additionally, I would have liked a bit more details on the characters outer appearances and how their motorized vehicles differ from Earths since it is a different world with advances in technology. Which is why it’s

This is the 1st book I’ve read and reviewed for both of these authors and I absolutely loved it. Fantastic cover and it really suits this story well. Jen works for the American Embassy when the ambassador takes off to deal with other duties Jen is left alone to deal with the Granota’s but she has no idea about the planet or the inhabitants. Zacron ( Zac ) has given up on finding his mate until he meets Jen then he instantly knows that she is his mate. Zac needs a kiss from his mate to transform himself from a frog like creature to a sexy green alien. I loved this story and it’s good to read a book without all of the heavy sex and this one was just perfect. Great storyline and characters and I highly recommend this book.

It could do with a bit more development. But this was a pleasant read.

Really liked the peculiarity of the prince's race . It was refreshing, had never seen anything like that. And the big plus? There was no explicit content.

For once, though, it would've been nice to see a relationship take time to develop despite being "fated". Would have liked it better, indeed, had they not gotten together so quickly.

Short but sweet love story!

I read this in one evening. It's a very sweet story of Jen, a human working at the Interplanetary Embassy, and Zak, an alien Prince who must find his One love to kiss him and make him go through the Change turning him from an ugly duckling (frog like in this case) to a handsome man. It's quick and short and sweet as they meet when he visits Earth and he uses subterfuge to convince her to come back to his planet to give him extra time to persuade her to kiss him and be his forever.

I don't like either character and I think that too much attention was dedicated to physical appearances. I really don't like when characters (or anyone) thinks of themselves as ugly. In the story, I think that when the main characters kiss, he should take the form of the girl he kissed (human form), and that doesn't sit well with me. To me, it looks like someone who isn't perfect can't be loved, and I don't want to read about that. When I started reading ,I didn't realize that this was a retelling of The Frog Prince, but maybe I should have considering the title.

3 & 1/2 stars generously rounded up.
A Quick read, took me almost 2 hours to finish. It's a sweet Y/A friendly novella, but the shortness takes away from some of the back story & character development. Really wasn't enough there to get a feel for the main characters, Jen & Zak, to form an opinion, or to see her get past his froggyness looks either to get to the kiss. This was alright as far as short stories/novellas go, but a good example of why I tend to avoid such short novellas.

This was a quick read; clean and sweet. I enjoyed the humor and lightness of the story, yet found it touching at the same time. Jennifer and Zak were enjoyable to get to know, each with their own insecurities and quirks, and each was so cute and sweet that it was impossible not to root for them. I loved how everything turned out! I found the writing easy to read and look forward to checking out more works by this author!

This retelling of the frog prince with a scifi twist was an interesting and quite funny read. Short in length but not in content, it's a good adaptation, and I'd definitely recommend it to adult fairytale lovers who are looking for something a bit different to go with their happy ever after.
NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions

The author came up with something I never would have considered: an entire race of "frog princes" who would lose that frogginess only upon kissing their soulmate - what a horrifying painful thought. It is bad enough for shifters to have to find their soulmate; they at least are usually on the same planet. To have to search the galaxy to find the one who can reveal your inner self to outer eyes - the sheer odds of never meeting your soulmate would be astronomical! What a horrifying thought!

Every girl hopes that someday her prince will come. This alien prince longs for the day he will meet his one and only, for her true love kiss will transform him warts and all. This is a delightful twist to a familiar tale, as the charming alien prince woos so ineptly he has to lure her off planet for an out of this world adventure.

I received a free book and voluntarily chose to review it. Jen is having a very bad day. The Ambassador has another meeting so he has Jen meet the Prince of Granota. I can’t really say that Jen is my strong woman but she really tries to do her best always. This is a lovely romance that is sweet and clean.

Great read

This is the first time I've read a book by this author and I'm impressed! I'm drawn to fairytale retelling and this was unique. The characters were interesting and had great chemistry but were so lovable and relatable. And you could just put yourself in the first couple of pages on a morning when you want to crawl back into bed! I'm so glad I stumbled across this!

Rubbish. Complete. Rubbish. In both of the stories contained in these books, the behavior of the characters was so illogical and immature that thought i was reading the stories and thoughts of 13 yo teenagers. The universe i which these stories happen was barely developed, and ONLY focused on the love stories. The rest ? What rest ? There’s nothing else to read about in here.

A race of frog people who change to beautiful or handsome when they first kiss their"One".

The lonely frog Princes is visiting Earth when he meets his One, but he is such a doofus that he never tells her what is going on, so she thinks he's there only to sign a treaty. Miscommunication almost foils the romance over and over.
