Sentenced to the pillory for the crime of having kissed a man, Jasper Marin has been stripped of his vocation as a priest, and seems poised to lose his faith with it. He has always been able to see ghosts but it's just like his luck that the one who's harrassing him now seems obsessed with collecting human hearts.
Spaceships and galaxy spanning empires, conversations with angels, viking villages, haunted mansions and forbidden love in the Age of Sail... I love a good strong plot in an exotic setting, with characters you can admire, and a happy ending.
If you make a venn diagram of genres, including historical, fantasy, gay romance and mystery, I occupy the space in the middle where they overlap.

BTW, if you're thinking my reviews on here are a bit mean, most of the books I really enjoy will get a 4 star. I am saving 5 stars for books I find genuinely life changing. 4 is still "this was really really good, you should read it." 5 is "OMG, my mind is blown and my life will never be the same again."
Found this interesting but very short; it's really only a brief introduction to the character with his brutal de-frocking. There's no dwelling on the ghostly mystery, I found that plot and journey was over in a scant page. Didn't grab my emotions though that start scene should have done, there's something detached about the telling.
The writing is quite stylised, a bit flowery, heavy on god with the main character being an ex-priest. It's in tune with it's historical setting which might prove off-putting for some.
The story doesn't stand out in anyway but it is only an intro not the full story, the potential is here to be interesting so I'll be giving the first book a go to see how it develops.
I LOVED this short story. The writing is lovely, the characters detailed and the whole thing just worked for me. Yes, I would have liked it to have ben longer and some aspects were a bit 'fuzzy' but this was a great story and I am looking forward to more in this series.
A well written story about a priest who is accused of a (same sex) kiss then publicly pilloried for same. One who is aided by someone who has a ghost around and about his place; one who draws pictures of the Priest. Ah, and the Priest, Jasper, can see ghosts. Love and forgiveness, even seven hundred years on, are beautiful things. If you are religious then there is a mending of a rift in that regard too.
Overall, Buried With Him is a nice short with some, uh, heart.
This was a twee and meh story about a gay, pilloried priest seeing gay ghosts who wanted to be put at rest together. Uber-dramatic in places, convoluted prose, too grim-dark for the topic, and not knowing whether it is paranormal fluff or horror.
And seriously, I should stop reading stories with any overly self-important religious content, they just vex me. Or maybe it is the fact that Alex Beecroft isn't Harper Fox.

Ah well, I didn't notice it was a prequel to The Wages of Sin, which I didn't like; I thought it was some new series. Anyway, I didn't like this one either.
I really liked this ghostly story. It's vivid and interesting and the characters are great. It's a prequel to the longer The Wages of Sin and it's great background for that story. This is short, but engaging. It's available for free from the author.
