The Coppersmith Farmhouse

Rate this book
One old farmhouse brought them together. It could also tear them apart.

Gigi has just uprooted her whole world to start a new life. The unexpected gift of a farmhouse in small-town Montana is just what she and her daughter need to escape big-city loneliness. The last thing she needs is attitude from the town’s sheriff, the most perfectly attractive and ruggedly handsome man she’s ever laid eyes on—and a complete jerk.

Jess knows all about women like Gigi. Beautiful. Sexy. Scheming. She’s stolen his sanctuary, the farmhouse that should have been his. But along with a face full of freckles, she’s got a sharp wit and a backbone of steel—something he doesn’t discover until after making a complete fool of himself. If he can earn back her trust and win her heart, he might just find the home he’s always needed.

It’s a good thing I didn’t start reading Devney Perry with this book. I get that it was her debut story but my issue wasn’t with the writing as you would think but with the characters.

I’ll start by saying that the MMC in this is a walking talking red flag. I was revolted everytime he interacted with the heroine because he was controlling, manipulative, disrespectful, rude and the list can go on. And NO, there wasn’t an ounce of alpha behaviour in that man. He was a bully. An absolute piece of work who feels entitled to a woman he wants - not in the way of winning her over but in ordering her to be with him and subsequently silence her everytime she has an opinion or free will.

As much as I like to read about possessive, alpha behaviour - to me those are the heroes who are very confident and therefore inherently respectful of their partner. Jess was not one of those men. He is one flying fist away from high handed but charming to - an abuser which you can’t escape because they trapped you. Is that an exaggeration? Maybe. But that is the type of character we got described. I’ve read about this exact guy in other romance books and he was usually the one which started out sketchy but niceish to the guy the heroine had to get restraining orders against. That’s all I’m saying.

The heroine was not much better. I can’t possibly like her after literally seeing her give in and cave to all his demands.
Example: she just went to dinner with the hero (who was trying to apologise for being a complete asshole when she first got to town) - he decides during that dinner that she will start dating him and she protests (because that’s what any sane woman would do - He DIDn’t ask her or tried to convince her - NO - he ordered her) but he shuts her up in 2 seconds and has her agreeing to it even as she internally questions herself but she won’t speak up and voice her opinion to him. That same night he makes plans for her to cook him dinner the next day and she explains she won’t introduce him to her daughter so dinner is out (because who introduces a guy who is, aggressive, verbally abusive, disrespectful and a bully to her kid after only one date where he acted decent) BUT guess what - he tells her he’s coming to dinner no matter what so she has 24 hours to figure out how she’s gonna introduce him to HER 4 year old daughter! And she caves. Just says ok. What kind of mother does this. She literally questioned his motives and him as a person for the whole time she’s known him which was only one week. And in that time he was an absolute jerk to her - only stopping said behaviour a day prior to their date. Explain this shit to me. Make it make sense.

SQUEEE!!! I just read this book by a completely new-to-me author and IT WAS AMAZING!!!!! It was like pure old-school indie romance heaven! The hero is an ALPHA sheriff who is grouchy at times but also incredibly protective, possessive, and SWOOOOOONY! And the heroine is a SINGLE MOM of a gorgeous little daughter who move into his town to start their lives over. MY HEART WAS RACING for so much of the story!! I LOVED these characters. I CARED for them! The romance was HOT, the writing was STRONG, and there was even some intense suspense thrown in as well that kept me glued to the page. I went into this book blind, I'd never heard of this author before, but I LOVED THIS BOOK!! Oh, and the epilogue has ALL THE FEELS!!!

The Coppersmith Farmhouse is a book that has been recommended to me multiple times by many friends. I’m glad I made the time to read it. It was a great debut novel! It had a strong alpha male, a single mom, it was steamy, sweet, and had an element of suspense. I’ll definitely be reading more from this author!

Just as a side note, I wish I would have read the book instead of listening to it. There was so much ‘feedback’ in the audio, you could hear pages flipping, weird noise and squeals and it was honestly a bit distracting to me. Just a heads up to my fellow audiobook junkies!

This book was beyond terrible. It was the worst.

Just to say, yes, I should have DNFd this book because I hated it all. But I didn’t, so…

Please stop comparing this book to a Kristen Ashley book. It is beyond offensive. This isn’t even a rip-off, this is nothing at all like a Kristen Ashley book even though I think the Author wanted it to be. But even more, I feel like there might have been a dig to KA in there somewhere so maybe the Author wasn’t going for that vibe? Either way, this book was one of the worst I’ve ever read. Whatever, the book just tried way too hard.

So, let’s start at the beginning. This chick inherited a farmhouse in Montana from an old man she met in the hospital and be-friended.

Said farmhouse has been cared for by the “Alpha” MC of the book for I think 18 years. We later find out he wasn’t just cutting the grass, he has POURED money into the house. I mean, he has redone the entire house with his own money. He must have a shit ton of money because it would take a shit ton of money. And then he isn’t willed the house, she is.

Hence our setup.

I’d be fucking pissed too. Plus I’d be sad and Jesse never once mentioned being sad over the loss of this man who was a huge part of his life. Not sure how huge though or how long because it seems Ben was gone a really long time. But still, Jesse continued to renovate a house that did not belong to him with his own money and it was not left to him! Plus, he renovated it but lived somewhere else. This does not make any sense and I just couldn’t get past it.

Sorry, I just got ahead of myself.

So, he meets Gigi and treats her like shit because regardless of his conversations with Ben, which we later learn he actually had, he thinks Gigi and her four year old daughter are gold diggers and they convinced Ben to leave everything to them. So, the Sheriff of this small, small, small town does the grown up thing and actually treats her so badly I probably would have packed my shit and turned right around and left. HE WAS A DICK and so unprofessional it couldn’t be forgiven.

Then he gets Ben’s deathbed letter and the very next day he wants to claim Gigi and Rowan as “his girls”. I’m not even joking here. He brings her coffee, they go out to dinner and he stakes his claim. It was not hot. It was stupid and she should have been packing her bags and hitting the road.

So, Gigi, is a grown up and supposedly the most beautiful woman Jesse has ever seen. This beautiful woman, successful nurse, has only had three lovers. The third was a one night stand at a wedding, so cliché, got her pregnant and then went ballistic when she told him. Whatever. One night stand, sign over your rights and be off. I guess it got ugly, I don’t know why, and he said mean things to her, which changed her forever. DRAMA. These two people didn’t have a relationship, it sounds like it was we had sex, later I found out I was pregnant and then he was mean. Told her she was shit. Ok, get over it. This guy is like no one to you. But no. This is how the insecure girl gets set up and it was so fucking stupid!!

This book gives women a bad name. I am incensed over this portrayal of women and I can’t believe it was a women who wrote it!

So, when perfect Jesse’s head spins around and he now has to have Gigi she is all, he’s perfect and I am just me. This girls has fabulous hair and she tells up. She parades around in skinny jeans and fancy jackets. She wears heels like they are flipflops. None of this screams “I am just me”. Totally a ploy and it made me feel gross. She was just a drama queen and constantly fished for reassurance.

Jesse was not an Alpha man. First of all, any time he acted like he was one the Author then explained to us that is what he was doing. We get it! I don’t need every single action in the book spelled out to me. It was awkward and condescending, like we aren't going to understand what she is writing. Awful.

I’m sticking with Jesse for a bit. HE WAS AN ASSHOLE. No lie. Not in the Alpha bossy way that I love or at least kind of smile at, he was a real asshole. He pushed and bossed and told and it wasn’t hot. He yelled at her four year old and told her to shut up. End game guys. Right there, that should have been some sort of red flag. He then was annoyed when she didn’t forgive him right away. Even stating that the four year old forgave him so he didn’t see what the big deal was. Just sayin’, no one tells me to shut up, how about you? This wasn’t the only time he lost his temper either.

I have notes written all over that I was jotting down while reading. This one is my favorite that I scribbled on an index card I had in my Kindle pouch. Girls like football and tools and garages and sometimes we especially love barns! I hate this bitch. HAHAHAHHAHAHAH! It’s true though. I do hate this bitch and she is an embarrassment to women. She cried at the drop of a hat. Got an upset belly if someone was angry with her and hated anything that was a “guy thing”. Really? It was embarrassing to read.

What else?

Oh, at 70% she was still going on about why Jesse picked her. Still with the why me. 70%!!

Jesse’s sister shows and is a total bitch to Gigi but even more again, the FOUR YEAR OLD, and then they are introduced and Gigi invites her over for Thanksgiving. Why not? Let’s let the brother and sister WALK ALL OVER ME!

Ok, so, Jesse is the sheriff. If I was dating the sheriff I think I’d always be telling him things I noticed. I am not currently dating anyone in law enforcement but if I even hear anything odd I share it with John, he does the same. It’s home, we are aware and it is conversation. IF I LIVED WITH THE SHERIFF AND I KEPT SEEING LIGHTS IN MY WOODS I’D TELL THE FUCKING SHERRIFF!!

Guys, she doesn’t so she sees them again but this time with people walking toward the house and she doesn’t call 911 or her boyfriend, THE FUCKING SHERIFF, no. She answers the door. These people just came from your woods!!!

This was so over the top ridiculous and it had the stupidest female I’ve ever read. I could probably go on and on but at the moment I don’t even want to try to remember everything. I’m embarrassed I even finished it.

Don’t even get me started on Sunday Night Football. What?

What a bummer because I liked the idea and it looks like there are a lot of books. Stupid.

I hated this.

Jesus, I got this and another book as recs off FB. I am scared shitless to read the other one!

descriptionNot often you see a cover of a romance novel without a half naked man or woman on it! This is a pretty cover. It's a great representation of the story. It has great composition. Interesting typography and makes great use of graphics.description

descriptionI enjoyed this one. It was a super sweet read that had a KA vibe to it. It was well-written and nicely paced. It had some hot sex scenes. It had a bit of mystery (to be honest, I knew who the baddie was from the MINUTE the person was introduced...but no matter.) Some interesting side characters (not crazy about that Felicity chick though and it looks like she may be paired with Silas.) It had an adorable kid and two (relatively) likable main characters. The hero was a huge ass at the beginning, but he redeemed himself fairly quickly. The heroine, on the other hand, annoyed me a bit for most of the book with her constant he is forcing me to do shit speel. The garage thing I understood. The football game tantrum...not so much. Those were just minor things in the grand scheme of things. Two thumbs up from yours truly.description

Re-read 2019 Loved it even more!! The audiobook was fantastic! I loved the narrators they really bring the story to life 💜

New town. New house. New Car. New life.

I loved everything about this story, you may say right book, right time. I have had this sitting on my kindle for ages and when I hit a book funk this week, I thought why not? Great decision!!!!

 photo Jamisonvalley_zpskx4uutdk.jpg

Georgia/Gigi was a strong and independent woman who wanted nothing more than to make a safe loving and fun home for her daughter Rowen (who is super cute). So when an elderly man who she had befriended while being his nurse passed away and left her a farmhouse in a small town, she thought this could be just the thing for them. Little does she know this sleepy little town has a lot more going on in it than she could imagine.

Not going to lie, I love a bossy alpha but at the start of this Jess may have taken alpha just a bit too far. Doesn't matter though I still fell hard for this small town sheriff.

I enjoyed the pace of this story and that it gave me a little of everything. It was funny, serious, cute, sweet, hot and even had a little suspense thrown in for good measure.

I am so looking forward to reading the rest of this series, the men of Jamison Valley are completely swoon worthy!!

Overall Opinion: This was an ok read. I thought it felt slow at times, but I never skimmed. I also didn't necessarily like either mc, so that was a big issue for me! I do agree with a GR friend that it had the same feel as a KA book, but it just didn't quite get there for me in meeting its potential. The h's daughter was cute, and her relationship with the H was fun to read. I also didn't necessarily mind the side characters, so I might give their book a chance...maybe. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either...just ok.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Gigi and Jess's story. Gigi moves to a new town with her young daughter for a fresh start in a farm house that was left to her after a close friend passed away. She meets Jess and he is instantly rude to her even though the sparks fly between them. After a few more not-so-great interactions, they decide to start over and go on a date. They start seeing each other and fall in love. Meanwhile, there is a bunch of open cases in town that are full of drugs, violence, and mystery that keep them on their toes...but they do get a HEA ending.

POV: This alternated between Gigi (mostly) and Jess's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Ok. It felt a little slow at times, but I never skimmed.

Instalove: No, they take a little while to develop stronger feelings.

H rating: 3 stars. Jess. He was ok. He was a major jerk at first, and he came around eventually to show he was a pretty good guy -- but he would still have his moments of being a jerk.

h rating: 2.5 stars. Gigi. She was ok, but her constant insecurities and pushing away got old quick.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Good. They have some good tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Safe sex: Yes

OW/OM drama: Mild

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This had good closure with a cute jump ahead epilogue and a HEA ending.

How I got it: It was part of my scribed subscription.

Safety: This one should be Safe for most safety gang readers

This book has reminded me of why I love to read! From 5%, I became hooked and my interest never stopped until the end! Some people may not like the amount of drama that went on; but I found it didn't bother me at all. It wasn't stupid, immature drama... it was stuff that would happen in the lives of a sheriff and a nurse!!!

This book takes place in a small Montana town... Georgia is given a farmhouse to live in by a good friend who recently passed away. She decides to take her little daughter and move to this cozy, quiet town!!! When she meets the cranky but hot sheriff of the town she dislikes him immediately-- even if sparks are flying... she is really trying to ignore them!!!!

There isn't a dull moment in this story; but it is a heart warming one and it has sizzling sexy times too! I highly recommend this read and I guarantee I will be waiting on pins and needles until the next book comes out! This is a new author for me but she won me over with this brilliant read that kept me captivated!!!!!

Jess is one of those cops that thinks he has all the power in the world and misuses it to oppress other people.

From the beginning he gave me the heebie jeebies just by breathing. He would not stop making the most weirdest comments towards Gigi as well as overall being a complete dickhead to her.

Like wtf do you mean you are "exclusive"????
You do not even know each other.
On top of that he kissed her without any consent when it was clear that Gigi, one did not want to, two she was clearly uncomfortable and three only gave in when he wouldn't stop.

He also very much forced Gigi and her daughter to basically let him luve with them and control their life. I do not care but this gave me very much "obsessed stalker vibes that will control every aspect of your life and threaten you by shouting and being loud and using his power."

The amount of times Jess continued to do things to both Jess, her house and her daughter even though Gigi said no multiple times was very uncomfortable and not romantic at all.
I do not understand where the chemistry is nor the tension nor any sort of connection because everything felt forced since Jess forced Gigi into a relationship.

On top of the fucking awful forced relationship with a Sheriff that misused his powers, the plot is messy and bad.
There is a murder in town and Jess is trying to solve it and it was the messiest thing on this planet. A lot of things did not make sense at all as well as that I think the wrong person was chosen in the end to be the villain. There were other people that could have made this story way more interesting if they had been the evil person in the end.

I also want to mention that Jess literally fucking kidnaps Gigi's daughter? I know you all might not think taking a child to get pizza is kidnapping but when the mother does not want it and the mother and the guy do not have any type of good relationship, taking a child that isn't yours, away from the parents is considered kidnapping...
✨how romantic of you Jess✨

Let's not even get started with Jess calling both Gigi and Rowen "my girls" from the beginning and staking a claim. J
ess, get your greasy fingers away from them and focus on not being an awful human being, thank you.

Fuck you Jess

3 to 3.5 stars.

A nice read. Bit predictable. Hero was a bit of an ass in the beginning ... and stayed that way for quite a lot of the book. Just could not accept her opinions or reasonings. Realised who the "bad guy" was early enough ... a little bit obvious, I thought.

Good for a debut novel. Will probably check out more if she continues the series.

The kid was cute enough.

Saw some reviews mentioned that she wrote a little like KA. Yes, I could see some similarities. That is probably why I one-clicked it in the first place. Small town, hunky sheriff who is a bit of a dickhead to start, girl is new to town. Bad guys around ... sound a bit familiar?

Sweet enough read. You'll probably enjoy it if you give it a shot!

Narrator Review: The narrator was excellent. Great voice and easily distinguished between the characters.

Story Review: Loved❤️loved❤️loved!

I love the caveman Alpha, but it sure is hard to find a book with one that doesn't have an over-the-top storyline right along with it. This was the perfect blend of a great story, strong, likeable heroine and my favorite type of alpha.

The best part is, he wasn't being a caveman just because he could. He had reason for taking charge, but he also showed growth when Georgia called him on it and explained her side. He started to see he needed to include her in decisions. It took a bit, but he learned it wasn't my way or the highway all the time.

I loved that Georgia stood up for herself. I hate reading a doormat heroine. She may not have gotten her way ever time but she still spoke up. Throw in a 4 year old girl interacting with this strong alpha character and swoon City here I come. I'd give this more than 5 stars if I could.

Audible Review: Narrated by Ava Erickson and Joe Arden

I absolutely loved the narration of this book! The voices were so clear and precise. I’m relatively new to audiobooks so it’s taking some time for my ear to adjust to listening. I had no trouble at all with this duo. Ava’s voice was just perfect for the character and Joe’s voice was mesmerizing. I will definitely be looking for more from these narrators!

First, let me say that this book was an accident. I didn’t intend to purchase it but while checking it out I inadvertently one clicked. That has NEVER happened to me before. Best. Mistake. Ever!

What an awesome read! If you’ve heard that this book has a Kristen Ashley feel to it that would be true. But in my opinion, it was so much better! Yep, you read that right. It was so fast paced and never once did it get bogged down. Rich with characters that you can actually imagine having met and the wonderful feel of a small town atmosphere; it was simply delightful. (I always wanted to put “simply delightful” in a review.)

Gigi and her daughter are starting over and they use the gift of a farmhouse in Montana to do that. Jess, the county sheriff, is rude and a downright grade A a-hole from the moment they meet. There’s a reason she considers him Jess the Jackass. If the name fits…

Jess may be a jackass, but he isn’t stupid and once the misunderstandings in his mind are cleared up he decides he’s going to make Gigi forgive him for his previous bad behaviors. She’s not completely on board with this idea. It doesn’t matter because Jess is determined that he will be claiming her as his own.

What follows is a fun, steamy read with plenty of suspense and mystery as well as a high cuteness factor due to Rowen, Gigi’s four your old daughter, and lots of alpha goodness. I don’t think I closed my kindle one time while reading this. If I had any complaint it was that the heroine has a bit of an inferiority complex and struggles to accept that the hero’s feelings are true.

I rarely, if ever, one click to purchase the next book in a series when the author is new to me. I didn’t even hesitate. And this time it was on purpose.

A fabulous narration of a fantastic story...

****4.5 Stars****

I'm going to have to adjust my rating for The Coppersmith Farmhouse up to 4.5 stars. The initial read was a 4 star and the narration was a 5 star, so I'm rounding it in the middle. Ava Erickson and Joe Arden team up to bring this story to life for me. They were easy to listen to and adjusted well to the different characters and their personalities. I never struggled with following along and I always knew when the characters changed.

If you haven't tried a Devney Perry yet, and you're a fan of audio, I highly recommend giving this one a try. I'm going to go on with the Jamison Valley series and revisit The Clover Chapel.

**********

A small town vibe that I liked.

I can be a little hit or miss when it comes to stories set in a small town. I think I know what the "hit" factor is (which is actually more about acknowledging the "miss" factor). I seem to like small town romances that are missing...narrow-minded, judgemental, snooty, crabby and pernickety know-it-alls. The first sign of Mr Crabby (the old fart who has an opinion on everything) or Mrs Pensnickety (the town tattler who expects respect without giving any) and I'm out of there. I know that probably seems a wee bit extreme for a reason to make or break a story, but, what can I say, I'm a narrow-minded, judgemental, snooty, crabby and pernickety know-it-all. 😉

I really enjoyed The Coppersmith Farmhouse. The characters, storyline and romance kept my attention from start to finish. It was the kind of series opener where you finish and are left desperate for more. Devney Perry is going on my watchlist and I'm glad I've got a few books to get through, to get up to date.

There were a few things that made me eye twitch throughout the story but Jess, the hero, having a short fuse was probably the worst offence. That man needed a chill pill to bring down his douchewaffle infection. Luckily, by the end, I understood him and I think he understood himself better too. He learnt to control himself better and was very aware of his girls' feelings.

This was a very steamy story with plenty of action in and outside the bedroom. I loved that Jess only saw beauty in Georgia. When her confidence was a little low, he made her believe his attraction. While the timeline was fairly quick, I never felt like this was an insta-love kind of story. They took their time and were conscious that Georgia's little girl needed to be considered.

It made me chuckle while adding my tags/bookshelves to this review. I've started with cranky-hero, douchewaffles-galore and I ended with sweet,the-good-guy-hero. That is the perfect way to describe Jess's character. I definitely warmed up to him by the end...or maybe that should read...he warmed me up by the end. Seriously, the guy had some serious "moves".

Anyways, I was happy with my journey into Jamison Valley and enjoyed the steamy, suspenseful, single mother romance a lot. I'm very sure that I will be returning for a visit soon.

This would have been such a good book if the hero was not such a giant jerk. From the beginning, Jess is completely rude to Gigi when she moves into town with her daughter. We learn why and Jess realizes he was in the wrong, so he decides to force her on a date and pretty much says they're together. Gigi would argue with him, but then give in to him anyways. There were points where Jess literally YELLS at Gigi and gets to irately angry at her for no reason. Gigi gets mad at him, but then lets him get his way anyways or just gets over what he did to her without a question. Seriously?? They also got together super early into the book, which I don't love in my romances. After they got together, it was just Jess being a jerk to her. There was a bit of suspense thrown in at the end, which was fun, but that couldn't save my feelings about the hero.

I did not gel with this book on the whole in any shape or form. I wanted to like it, indeed until 25% I held hope that my issues would be worked through. By 50% I realised that this was a hero that I could only hate, he could not be redeemed in my eyes in any way. He was manipulative, cunning, controlling, had temper issues that were scary and I didnt believe his connection with the heroine. The heroine gave off vibes of not being okay with his controlling ways but was always won over by a kiss or a weak willed apology....till the next time, stupid woman.

The narration was reasonably good, I enjoyed the tonation of the female narrator but I was less enamoured by the male narrator.

On the whole, I’m thinking this authors books aren’t for me. I may give another a try, unless I hear all her hero’s are such assholes.

*****5 Amazing EFFING stars*****

I absolutely loved The Coppersmith Farmhouse and I have found a new favourite author in Devney Perry. I loved her writing style and the fact that she does not go overboard with details like describing what every single room looks like down to all the nic nacs or what every single item of clothing looks like as I find this can get repetitive with some authors (naming no-one). I also loved that even though this is told mostly from Gigi’s POV we get some insight into Jess’s mind.

I was excited to pick up my kindle to read what happened next for Gigi and Jess, I read this in 4 days and trust me recently for me this was fast. This is one of my favourite reads this year.

I adore Georgia she is strongly independent, hardworking, has the biggest heart and she is the best mum everything she does is with Rowen in mind. Little Rowen is so cute and a wonderful little girl not a brat at all. I could not wait for her to call Jess "Daddy" and when she does I had happy tears.

Where do I start with Sheriff Jess??? OH, I KNOW I EFFING LOVED HIM he is a classic alpha male bossy, bad tempered, sexy as sin but OMG he is a big softy when it comes to “his girls” I even love Jackass Jess.

I adored every single minute I spent with these two from the first meeting to the wonderful epilogue and everything that happens in-between which was A LOT. I enjoyed that this is told over a six-month timeline nothing is rushed. How they deal with day to day issues, all the bickering at the beginning, all the silly little fights and then the HOT make-up sex, the family outings with Rowen, a few mishaps along the way (rattlesnake YIKES) and a couple of heart stopping moments.

Gigi and Jess's bickering at the beginning
“Don’t want people around town thinking we’re just friends or we’re just fooling around. We’re gonna see where this goes.”
“We’ve had one kind-of-date, Jess. And I wouldn’t call us friends.”
“Because we’re not just friends.”
“I’m not dating you. I don’t even like you. Find someone else to keep you company at the café.”
“You like me. Can see it in your eyes when you look at me.”
“Physically, yes. But personally, you’re a jackass.”
He yanked the truck to the side of the road.
“What are you--” I started but Jess reached across the cab, grabbed me at the back of the neck and slammed his mouth down on mine.”

see what I mean H O T

I even love Ben for bringing Gigi into Jess’s world.

The Coppersmith Farmhouse is a wonderful adventure filled with great characters, funny banter / dirty talk, heart-warming romance, mystery and heart stopping drama (I guessed who the bad guy was and I was right). I cannot wait to read the rest of The Jamison Valley series and get to know more of the Prescott residents personally.

I will stop now I could go on FOREVER.

THANK YOU to ALL my gr friends for writing great reviews for this and making me add it to my reading list.

I very much enjoyed this story set in the small town of Prescott, Montana.

The writing was great and the story line solid. The hero was a bit too pushy or alpha for my tastes yet it worked. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the rest of the series!

DNF @ 30%

The hero is a total jerk to the heroine in the beginning, then decides his reason for disliking her is wrong so now he's going to act like a caveman. The heroine is all bluster, trying to stand up to the hero who was a complete jerk to her, but because he's sexy her hormones seems to excuse his behavior and she'll just fall at his feet *eye roll*.

Alert!!! Up and coming brand new author! Prepare to be amazed and to swoon over sheriff Cleary.

If you read:

“I opened my mouth to ask what was going on but the words got stuck in the back of my throat. My brain short-circuited. All of my attention was focused on the man standing right in front of me. Seated on my stool, I had to tip my head way back to examine his face. I blinked a few times because this man was so ruggedly handsome I had to be imagining him. (…)
What catapulted him beyond any good-looking man I’d ever seen before were his eyes, light blue eyes flecked with white. Bright, like the color of ice. I had never seen such a hue before. Did they melt when he kissed someone, or did the ice become even brighter? “

you’re already DROOLING right? Because I know that I did!

And if said man adds: “Are you about done drooling over me so you can finish patching him up?” he snapped.”

What do you do? Well I squealed as I love a good hate to love romance with hot sometimes jack@ss alpha heroes.

This book has all my favorite ingredients in romance stories:

- Alpha badass hotness aka sheriff Jess Cleary with light blue eyes;

-down to earth with a heart as big as Montana single mother: Gigi (I even love her name! It has a “musical comedy” sound to it);

-courageous and trooper four years old little girl Roe;

-chatty and nosy female friend Maisy. Very enthusiastic and the town gossip;

-some hot male sidekicks that I see having their own interesting stories in the future;

-robbery, hidden drug dealer leading Sheriff Cleary to mess with his hair all the time as he is really wants to protect his town.

And I’m also a sucker for small town stories. I love the tight knit community feel, the gossip, the support. Prescott, Montana (love that State) was no exception to the rule with its local gossiping men reunion and football entertainment: “Let me educate you a bit about Prescott High sports. Everyone comes to see what everyone else is doing. Sure, we all cheer for the kids and hope they win, but that’s just the sideshow. We really come to see what people are up to, what they look like, if they’ve gained weight and who they’re with. It’s the second biggest gossip spot in town behind the Coffee Club.”

When Gigi moves with her little girl into Prescott, Montana, she expects to find a sleepy and secure little town. Little did she know she arrived in the middle of an enquiry running nowhere so far with the local sheriff trying to catch a drug dealer. Beaten bodies, arson, … are hitting the small town.

She wanted to find a safe haven but certainly did not expect to meet the town sheriff in such arresting manner. Their first encounter is heated and you can guess a sizzling chemistry coming your way. The sheriff is a jack@ss and she won’t back down! I don’t know you but I love when the main characters have heated words. It feels like foreplay and you can imagine the passion between the sheets later on.

Once the misunderstanding is cleared up, Jess will be VERY determined to take care of Gigi and Roe. He’ll soon let her understand they’re “his girls”. I loved how bossy he was. I literally melted at the sight of Jess protectiveness towards Gigi and Roe. The poor man has been taking care of his mom, his sister and his town. He is a “take charge guy” but Gigi has been on her own making all the decisions for so long she is determined to be independent and not be bossed around by the hot sheriff. Even if he is kissing like a god and she is always instantly forgetting what they were arguing about. Eff! There goes her resistance…

I love alpha heroes!

What I also loved is in spite of their instant attraction they won’t jump in bed so quick. I do prefer a slow burn to instant consumption. Their relationship was hot but realistic. Gigi did not throw caution to the wind. She’s been burnt and she’ll take her time before trusting Jess. Her ex did really a number on Gigi and she’ll need some ego boost to believe in Jess’s interest.

Added bonus: these characters are flawed and make mistakes. Jess may have been a super-hot alpha he also was super dumb sometimes when he snapped at Roe after a bad day. It happened only once but it made for a relatable relationship as no relationship is always a smooth sail.

Finally if the plot was not extremely complicated a constant undertone of threat was present throughout the book and it kept me interested all along thanks to an evasive evil doer in town.

A truly well written romance story with alpha hero, single mom and stunning Montana background.

I’m now a fan of Mrs Perry’s writing and I can’t wait for her second book!

I absolutely loved this book! It had romance and steam with a side of suspence to keep things interesting. I read it on one sitting!

Jess and GiGi's were great characters-

Jess was alpha to the max. He started out as a major jerk. He made assumptions about the heroine that simply were not true. It didn't take him long to figure out he was wrong and he immediately set out to make things right. His alpha tendencies were OTT but I personally like those caveman antics. He was a take charge kind of guy and that often rubbed GiGi the wrong way. He was devoted to her from first sight and was so sweet and amazing with her daughter Rowan.

GiGi was a great heroine as well, BUT her insecurities got tiresome. Did it take away from my enjoyment? NO. It just could have been toned down some in my opinion. I loved that she pushed right back at Jess when he was being a jerk and set him straight. Their dynamic worked.

**I'm very interested in book 2 but it is a second chance story. I am anxious to see if they were with others during their separation because they are married and the hero left the heroine after their wedding night (allegedly for her safety).

Book 2 is about Nick (he has a 9 year separation and they are BOTH with others)

Book 3 Silas (and Felicity- not a fan personally)

Book 4 Beau

Book 5- Maisy-hope her hero is amazing because I liked her!

3.5 STARS

Book one in the series gives us single mom Georgia (aka Gigi), who with her cute little girl has come to start over in a small Montana town, having inherited a lovely farmhouse from Ben a dear friend that recently died. She quickly meets the town’s Sheriff Jess, and to day their first meeting doesn’t go well would be no understatement. Jess is a serious ass; the dislike Gigi feels for him is so understandable. Once Jess realises what unjustifiable douche he was, he completely reverses his perceptive of Gigi, and goes full out to claim her as his.

I liked the fact Gigi called him out when he stepped over the line, although there were some moments where I wish she held a little firmer, and didn’t let him get away with some of what he did and said – yes she tells him off but she does in the end prevailingly acquiesce. A sweet, somewhat steamy read with a protective and very bossy hero.

An enjoyable re-read and it’s staying on my kindle, although I have to admit that I noticed things this time around that I didn’t the first time I read this book. The 180 that Jess does when it comes to Gigi, was a little abrupt, the leap to calling Gigi and Roe ‘his girls’ etc. didn’t feel authentic. A little more depth and layering was needed in the depiction of the development of the relationship, even at such a speed. I’m all for insta-lust/love but it needs to feel a little more natural than it did in this book.

Uhm… I don’t know what to think about this one.

It was cute small town.
Sheriff and nurse insta lust.
Cute kid, single mum trope.

But mostly, I adored when she said, no, we’re not dating and I’m not your girlfriend, it was just one dinner. And he said something along the lines of: ”don’t fool yourself woman, we are dating, you are my girlfriend, and I’m letting everybody in town know.” and then proceeded to kiss the hell out of her.

What can I say, I’m a simple girl.

I think this book was a great start to a series. I have seen so many reviews of this series come by lately, so of course I had to give it a go myself. I am glad I did, because it was a very nice read ;)

What pulled me in most though, was not so much the story, but the writing style. It was very pleasant, and even though there were parts that made me roll my eyes a bit, I could not stop reading. For me that's a sign to keep my eye on this author !

jaydenkiss GIF

Gigi is a single mom to a lovely 4 year old daughter and she has just inhereted a farmhouse from a very good friend. A friend she has been taking care of for the last couple of years. Now after his death, he is offering her a chance at a new life...a new start. Gigi, although a bit nervous, is very excited to move to this new small town. She already has a job lined up at the local hospital.

jaydenkiss GIF

She loved everything about her new home town. The famhouse is amazing, her job is great and the people are wonderful. Well.. almost all people that is....since the sheriff seems to be a major asshole.

200-6.gif (646×308)

To say that Gigi and Jess get off on the wrong foot, would be an understatement. He has been taking care of the farmhouse for a very long time, it has become his sanctuary and now Gigi just came stroling into town, taking over something he has worked so hard for.

Of course Jess didn't have the whole story, when he inserted his foot in his mouth and started bitching at her. Being the awesome alpha man that his is though...he rights his mistakes pretty fast ;)

This book is pretty heavy on the insta-love, which is one the issues I had with the story. I am not a huge fan of insta-love. There are only a few authors, that write insta-love, that I make an exception for. I can understand falling in love fast, but the whole hating/disliking someone, but still lusting after their body...that just annoys me.

I tried to get over myself though and insta-love aside...this was a pretty great story. These two were pretty hot and sweet together.

fPcBBjn.gif (500×235)

I really liked Jess. What can I say... I am a big sucker for assholes. Gigi was pretty sweet, but I like my heroines to be a bit more kick-ass. She was a bit shy with low selfesteem...I didn't dislike her, but I wouldn't make any friendship bracelets with her either !!

If you don't mind insta-love, and you are looking for something hot and sweet and even a bit suspencefull....I would recommend you give this one a go ;) I am definitely gonna check out the rest of the books in this series.

Warm and cozy.

That’s the best way to describe this book.
Well..
Except maybe the “not so warm and cozy parts”. Like the drug dealers, explosions, “crazy ass fighting for your life -“scenes. 🤷🏻‍♀️ But besides that it was really cozy.

Really makes me want to move to a small mountain town.

I highly enjoyed the writing.
It had a steady flow, nice plot and great dialogue.

The characters were likeable and sweet. So warm. Really I mean it. Warm and cozy😂 I really need to write something else.

I apparently like it because it’s warm and cozy.

Lots of hype on social media regarding this new debut by Devney Perry. There has also been mention that Perry’s writing voice is comparable to Kristen Ashley’s. In general, maybe so, but on the whole, not in my opinion. I found it a bit softer with less of the grab factor. (Note: I run hot or cold on Ashley's books, so this was not a significant point in my decision to read this one.)

If you’re a big fan of small town sexy romances that includes an alpha know-it-all hero and a woman who has experienced abuse at the hands of someone who was supposed to love her (single mom and town’s sheriff), along with a little mystery and a whole lot of sweetness, you’ll probably enjoy a look/see.

A good proofreader might be of some help, too.

Where to start!! I liked it but didn't love it. This book should have been perfect for me. An OTT possessive alpha paired with a nice and occasionally sassy h, mix in an adorable kid, and this book should have been a big LOVE for me. But something about it didn't totally pull me in. It had a KA vibe to it and I love KA. I'm guessing this is a "me" thing as a lot of my friends really liked this one.

I could't miss out reading this book. Starting over. Montana. Ruggedly Hunky sheriff. Hunky sheriff with an ATTITUDE. This author is new to me. I kept hearing great things about this book in a really short amount of time. I also snooped in my friend Chele's book shelf. She's a western/Montana expert. Yep. My friend Chele and lots of others gave this book high marks.
Curious me. Thanks SO much Chele :)

This is 1st person POV, Gigi & Jess. Gigi & her 4 year old daughter Rowen move from Spokane to Prescott, Montana (s/w corner of the state). Gigi inherited a house from Ben Coppersmith, an elderly man that she cared for in Spokane. Gigi is a nurse and soon takes job in the town's community hospital.
Jess is the town's sheriff. He and Gigi do not hit it off very well when they "meet cute' at the hospital's ER. They clash like nobody's business. I thought that this would be really milked out. I did crack up at the "running" ticket that Jess gave Gigi.
A lot of the book is Jess & Gigi yanking each other's chain. Gigi is more serious and it makes her an easier target for Jess.
Gigi had a very bad experience with Rowen's dad. He was a one night stand. After Gigi had Rowen, they never saw him again. It make her skittish with men. Especially men that she's attracted to.
In the first couple of chapters, there's a flash back or two telling how Gigi met Ben Coppersmith. In present day, it's revealed that Ben also played a big role in Jess' young life. Like a father figure or an uncle.

Gigi and Jess start to get along when Jess realizes that Gigi isn't the grasping gold digger that he first thought she was. Jess has a talk with himself about not being such an asshole.
Gigi hadn't been on a date since she had Rowen. Gigi starts off a little stiff, but soon feels more comfortable around Jess. I really LOVED how this author spent a lot of time on their relationship. They didn't just dance around each other & then confess their hearts at the very end. Jess had not had a relationship in a very long time if ever. He was more of a lone wolf.
Jess was very sweet to Gigi & it was funny when he wanted his way. He would sweet talk her (and more). Then Gigi would let him have his way. She was like putty & she knew it! I like that persuasion technique! So did Gigi.
Gigi had concerns: Was she good enough for Jess? Was Jess' job too risky? Prescott is a small town, but Jess was trying to solve some serious cases.

The last 1/3 or so of the book involved Jess trying to find who was behind the recent drug dealing in the area. I didn't think that it fit with the rest of the story. It went from gritty to fairly violent at the end. The rest of the story was a push/pull of Jess & Gigi's romance.
I loved Rowen, she's very cute and very realistic, but some things seemed a little too advanced for a 4 year old. I liked Maisy- Gigi's bff , but her story was left hanging a little.
There is an HEA. and a great epilogue. The next books are different H/hs
4.25 stars. I recommend this one!

I LOVED this book! Gigi is a single mom who works hard as a nurse and raising her four year old daughter. Three years ago, she befriended Ben, an elderly patient who was all alone and he became like family to her and her daughter. After he passed away, she finds out he left her his farmhouse in Montana. She decides to move with her daughter to the farmhouse and start a new life. She loves the farmhouse and the small town but has one problem, Jess, the sheriff who isn't very nice to her. Jess was upset when he found out a woman would be getting Ben's farmhouse figuring it was someone who took advantage of the elderly man so when he first meets Gigi, he isn't very welcoming. Gigi is the most beautiful woman he's ever seen and he can't help being attracted to her but he's upset with her for taking advantage of his old friend. He doesn't realize at first that Gigi was a caretaker and friend to Ben, not someone who was after his money. It doesn't take long for Jess to see the kind of woman Gigi really is and to want to get more friendly with her. Besides the sweet and sexy romance, there's also suspense and a little action. Jess is investigating a drug ring that has taken over his small town. With few clues, a beaten John Doe showing up in the hospital and a murder, Jess has his hands full.

I loved the chemistry between Gigi and Jess. I love stories like this where the hero is a huge jerk at first and has to make it up to the heroine. Gigi isn't the type to forgive easily so Jess really had to work for it. Jess isn't perfect, he's very alpha - demanding and bossy - but he's also sweet and loving when he needs to be. The interactions between Jess and Gigi's daughter Rowan were my favorite. There were also some really good steamy scenes. I loved everything about this book - the romance, steam, suspense, action and drama. This is a great start to a new series and I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I highly recommend this book! It's a top pick of 2017 for me and a book I look forward to re-reading soon!
