He’s never met him, but can only assume that this is Mike Davies lying here. From a distance, one might surmise that this man is sound asleep in his bed, save for one particular detail. And that particular detail is that it appears, at first glance, that his head has been gruesomely bashed in. With no sign of a snore or a breath, the inspector can only conclude that Mike Davies is not sound asleep, but dead”. Diane Dimbleby’s childhood friend and fellow author, Mike Davies, has invited her to spend the weekend with him on the Island of Lundy. Lundy is the perfect place for writers and artists to find inspiration; the natives keep things hopping, and the wildlife awakens the senses. Since Mike’s retirement from the MI6—Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service, the 63-year-old native Londoner has called his grand, 40-foot yacht home. It’s a safe place to write, much like Diane’s village of Apple Mews. His novels are bestsellers, based loosely on personal experiences working as an intelligence spy. His latest submission is no different; it is inspired by a twenty-five-year-old case, and is soon to be released. But someone has begun threatening him. Warning him to make it disappear, or else. Mike shares his concerns with Diane and her instinct tells her he might be in danger. In the past, Diane has assisted Inspector Darrell Crothers of the Shrewsbury Police with his criminal cases, but this time she needs his help. Mike is in serious trouble and the inspector is someone she trusts with her life. When Diane and Darrell discover Mike’s dead body aboard his yacht, a single clue leads them to Mike’s publisher. It isn’t long before the MI6 intervenes and pressures the inspector to walk away. Darrell, driven to find the truth, has never backed down from a case. Neither has Diane, who is intent to bring Mike’s killer to justice. When Darrell’s main suspect is found dead, the case takes a cataclysmic turn, and heads straight for Diane’s beloved hometown Apple Mews. Has she finally met a foe who will outwit her? A curious writer, a determined detective, and a powerful government agency with a reputation to protect—everyone is a suspect and no one is safe. Diane's old friend Mike Davies a retired MI6 agent and now author is getting killed just before the release of his newest book. Diane and her friend Inspector Darrell Crothers do a great job investigating the murder which leads them into MI6 business.
The ending leaves me a bit unsettled and unsatisfied due to the nature of the subject.
This was another very good mystery and moves at a great pace.

I love buying and reading these types of books.
Boats, yachts, historical events and books about the sea are generally excellent. If there are sequels in your series, I would love to read them.

The beauties of owning the books of important authors cannot be discussed. I'm looking forward to your new books.

For friends who want to read this book, I leave the importance of reading a book here. I wish good luck to the sellers and customers...

Top 10 benefits of reading for all ages:

1. Reading Exercises the Brain

As we read, we need to remember the different characters and settings of a particular story. Even if you enjoy reading a book in one sitting, you need to remember the details during the time you devote to reading the book. Therefore, reading is an exercise for your brain that improves memory function.

2. Reading Is a (free) Form of Entertainment

Did you know that most of the popular TV series and movies are based on books? So why not indulge in the original form of entertainment by immersing yourself in reading? Most importantly, it's free with your Markham Public Library card.

3. Reading Improves Concentration and Focus

We all agree that there can be no reading without focus, and we need to concentrate on every page we read to fully understand the story. In a world where gadgets only speed up and shorten our attention span, we must constantly practice concentration and focus. Reading is one of the few activities that requires your undivided attention, so it improves your ability to concentrate.

4. Reading Improves Literacy

Have you ever read a book where you come across a word you don't know? Books have the power to improve your vocabulary by introducing you to new words. The more you read, the more your vocabulary will improve as well as your ability to communicate effectively. Also, reading improves writing skills by helping the reader understand and learn different writing styles.

5. Reading Improves Sleep

By creating a bedtime routine that includes reading, you can signal to your body that it's time to sleep. Now more than ever, we rely on increased screen time to get through the day. That's why you put your phone away and pick up a book and tell your brain it's time to calm down. Also, since reading helps you relieve stress, reading right before bed helps calm your mind and anxiety and improve your sleep quality.

6. Reading Increases General Knowledge

Books are always full of fun and interesting facts. Whether we read fiction or non-fiction, books have the ability to provide us with information we might not otherwise know. Reading various topics can make you a more knowledgeable person and therefore improve your speaking skills.

7. Reading Is Motivating

By reading books about heroes overcoming adversity, we are often encouraged to do the same. Whether it's a romance novel or a self-help book, the right book can motivate you to never give up and stay positive.

MURDER ON THE YACTH by Penelope Sotheby book 3 series "Diane Dimbleby"
A simple request for Diane to "come visit" Mike, in Lundy Island. The simplicity is unusual and sounds like more. Mike's career had been , M16 , knowing your life is never your own. Writing this manuscript , he's getting threats to stop. A prank or if real why. Diane calls and ask the Inspector to come, for a few days, to look at the threats. Instead, he is looking at something more serious, was there something in the manuscript. Another charming, easy to read, and more about the characters we enjoy, and what they are doing. Readers will definitely enjoy these 3 stories. Looking forward to reading more about Diane and the Inspector.

I am having a hard time rating this book. I really loved the story, the characters, and even the fact that is more of a Novella than a long mystery. Where I run into trouble is with the ending of this story and without giving anything away it's just not in fitting with the rest of the book. It's like the story needed to be "X" amount of words long and the amount was coming close so the author rushed the ending to achieve the right amount of words. I would have rated 4 stars otherwise.

Apple Mews is a quiet village that is the home to more than a few murders. The villagers are not average either, they have boisterous quirks or behaviors, both in terms of volume and eccentricity and pranks. Diane Dimbleby is a retired teacher invited by her friend Mike Davies for a short vacation to visit the Island of Lundy on his 40 foot yacht. Mike is retired from the Britain's Secret Intelligence Service. He is a published author, and uses some of his "work" to write about things. Diane is his editor on this book. When Mike gets threatening notes to stop the publishing of the book, he doesn't take them too seriously. Then Mike is killed on his yacht. Now Diane and her friend Sgt. Sean Golden have to find out who wrote those notes and who killed Mike. Can they do this without anything else happening to either of them or anyone else? Is the MI 6 responsible as people are thinking? Read the book to find out.

Certain elements of this book were excellent, starting with the storyline. An ex-M16 Secret Intelligence Service member is writing fictional spy books, and enters elements of facts about the fall of the Berlin Wall in his currently unpublished novel. He has gotten threats, and invites his good friend Diane Dimbley for a visit to share this information with her and ask her help. The visit doesn't go as planned, and soon there is a murder to solve. Diane gets her friend Inspector Darrell Crothers involved, and the two of them solve the case.
However, the solution is left up in the air when we learn a supposed suicide has no gun shot residue on her hands. A very weak ending to an otherwise interesting mystery, I would rate it at 3 1/2 stars if possible, because the ending seemed rushed and unfinished.

I received this book free from the author to read and leave an honest review. I also purchased this book because I like the series so much. This is a wonderful cozy series of mysteries. I'm always interested to see what Diane Dimbleby is going to get up to. Now she is on a yacht with a retired secret service agent who is writing a tell-all and is receiving threats, and asks for Diane's help. Diane is not all that sea-worthy and asks a friend to join her at a B&B. These stories are so much fun and the writing is great. There is much to be enjoyed in these books, and quite a bit of mystery to solve! Some would say that the ending was not finished, but I say you must think on this ending and perhaps find your own. I definitely recommend this and all of this series for a fun and interesting read.
