In the USA TODAY bestselling series, Vampire Girl, Karpov Kinrade took the world by storm. Now, the saga continues in book 3, Silver Flame.
*** I was an ordinary girl, living an ordinary life, until I sold my soul to save my mother. Now, I am trapped between two worlds. Between the vampire demons who own my contract, and the Fae whose bloodline flows in me. Between the prince I'm falling in love with, and the race his kind has enslaved.

Silver Flame (Vampire Girl #3) by Karpov Kinrade continues the wonderful story and it gets more and more exciting. Magic, suspense, action, adventure, fae, shifters, god-like creatures, and romance. Great plot, characters, and great fun to read. Read all four books in one sitting!
I gave four stars out of my respect for the authors and the first two books of the series. In reality I feel it deserves more of a 3 star rating, maybe even a 3.5 star.
First off let me preface this review by stating that the first two novels of this series were absolutely fantastic and filled me with absolute joy! In fact, until I started this book I easily stated Vampire Girl as my favorite series ever, the first book ever to trump my love for Twilight since I read that in the 5th grade. That said, I am absolutely devastated by this latest addition to the series. Devastated and LIVID.
First off, I was expecting some really good quality stuff since it took 3 times as long as originally promised to come out. I understand the authors had personal matters and that is all fine and dandy but I would rather wait longer and have the best possible work than get it a month sooner and get the result I got. At one point I believe the author stated this would be a "longer" book. I don't have a page count since this book is only on kindle at the moment but this book was incredibly short. The read time based on my person read speed (which isnt incredibly fast you may note) was about 4.5 hours. My typical good to long length book is at 8-12 hours. Also, in this first addition there are a considerable amount of typos, a minor thing, but still notable.
Secondly the entire book felt like an outline for the story rather than an actual story! This is certainly my biggest complaint. I can deal with waiting for a short book forever if its good but I am disappointed beyond words with this. I appreciate that the authors didn't beat around the bush and the book was rather action packed unlike other books such as Eldest that seem to drag on forever with an over abundance of detail. However, the book was devoid of detail. "Show don't tell," an important adage taught to young inexperienced writers felt lost in this book. Relationships were not given time to develop and fill our hearts with desire. Things happened very quickly without any kind of build up. With out revealing too much the major battle that sums up the book's end lasted all of a couple pages. New relationships went from 0-60 in a few (like 3 or 4) short chapters. Zero being "Hey I just met you" and 60 being "Sex and the infamous L-word." Not to mention the book in general lacked romance with Ari and Fen being busy separately most of the time. The only good romance was in a separate couple I won't mention and that felt half-baked as described above. A good romance always teases readers with a sense of desire for two characters to finally be together and honestly, this book failed that.
I better stop typing before I start to analyze every page of the book. I really hope the authors release an edited edition of the book, free of typos and more developed than the outline they have given us. Love the plot, wouldn't change a thing, but I need more subsistence after these long hard months of waiting.
I found this book a bit boring :( it wasn't like the first or even the second. I think I don't like all the fae stuff :( if it would have stayed with the original concept it would have been enough. She has to marry one of the 7 that in its self is enough ... Add all the fae stuff and the story gets mudded .. I wish I loved it more I really loved the first book
Loving this series with it's treachery, twists and turns. All the battles, love and hate. This is one heck of an amazing book, that leaves you NEEDING more, wanting answers. So, off to the next book I go.
I enjoyed this book and am overall enjoying the series. I will read the fourth as soon as it comes out. With that said, I rate this book 3 not 4 stars because of the failure to pull the individual parts of the story completely together which is especially evident in the weak final battle scene, and the failure to fully use the story to bring about greater character progression. My love of the potential of the series is obvious in the length of my review.
I would generously compare this series to YA fantasies by Sarah J Maas which I love. With that said, this series is more simplistic, misses character and plot development opportunities and Maas' final fantasy battle scenes are truly epic.
The first half of this book was well paced and generally ok. Lots of great Fae mythology and introduction to Sly Devil and more depth to Dean. Good dungeon scenes, escapes, some good fighter training scenes (though this middle section could have been improved and started showing the lack of direction to the battle itself) plus a few minor fun adventures. Pete, Es and Varis are brought back into the story which should have provided better aspects to the battle and ending but didn't. Lots of pretty good parts but the passion of how they were being put together seemed a bit missing.
In the second half, there is the most wonderful introduction to Tavian Gray as well as more character development for Kayla (metal forger and Fen's sister) which is awesome. All the parts with Tavian were fabulous and it looks like he will be a big character in book 4!
While each piece of the story was pretty good, they all seemed disparate. In large part that is caused by the failure of the final battle to bring the pieces together though there were other missed character maturing opportunities such as having Fen, Ari and Varis train together which could have added a lot.
What made the battle a let down when it could have been a truly epic fantasy battle that pulled everything together? Here are five examples of the missed opportunities: 1) great characters leaving before the battle because they are disappointed in Ari, 2) training humans - which was an ok storyline but certainly not the best nor necessary - and then not involving them in the battle, 3) having awesome characters in prison and even after releasing them during the battle to not really get to enjoy them fighting alongside the main characters in an explosive way that built loyalty across the separate groups of character - biggest miss, 4) having Sly's dangerous creatures swoop in, and 5) having key characters - who betray the heroes in the end - not be involved much in the battle itself which missed a huge opportunity for more foreshadowing which would have given more character depth to the ending.
Such great opportunities ... why were they missed? Did the authors lose the overall plot in the midst of this book? If this book had been published six months later or even one month, could some of these misses been corrected?
The ending does give huge potential to book 4 and it is an interesting twist. It puts more focus on three characters who have generally been secondary characters and provides great ways to further connect all the characters. I am so hopeful that book 4 is able to pull things back together and bring back a bit more passion around the potential of so many of these characters to be better heroes than they are now.
Eh ... Book #3 meandered too much for my taste and it felt like there were too many scenes that, in the grand scheme of things, just weren't important. While Es and Pete are great, NOTHING happened with them that was worth bring them back into the storyline. There was this huge sense of urgency in the beginning of the book for Ari to learn as much as possible about her powers ... and then long chapters of her doing nothing ... or choosing to do things other than train. It made little sense to me. I also think the tension in the story could be so much better if I truly questioned whether Ari and Fen would end up together. However, I've never understood Fen's deep rooted reasons for not wanting to be chosen as King. This story would be so much more interesting if their conflict felt real. Fen isn't much of a Prince of War - or, at least I haven't seen much evidence of it. And the ending? Ari doesn't train much the whole book and then has a TSTL moment. Sigh. Quite honestly, I enjoyed Kayla's side-story more than anything. With all that being said, I have to read book four to see how this ends.
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If I claim that leaf is perfect in its form, who's to say I am wrong? If I say that rock brings me joy, who is to question me? If I confess, you are the most amazing women I have ever met, who will change my mind?"
The thing that I like about Karpov Kinrade's work is when the story ends or more important how it's end. It always cause a curiosity so you looking forward to reading next book. This book like two previous ones was perfect. But I really like in the next book read more Asher's POV, instead of Kayla!
Silver Flame is book 3 in the Vampire Girl series.
This was not my favorite of this series. In fact, it was my least favorite. This book felt choppy and disjointed. There was a whole lot of things happening and it jumped around a lot.
I am still interested in continuing the series to find out what happens next.
I'm pretty disappointed by this one. I LOVED the first two books in this series. They surprised me and stayed away from some of the more overused things you find in YA novels. I loved Ari. So much. She was my girl. And I didn't see the connection to Twilight that all the blurbs refer to. Everything was great... until this one.
Ughhhhh what happened to my people?!? Ari made such stupid choices, and then was surprised by the consequences. Really? Anyone could see that coming. And we went back to the Bachelorette storyline with the princes vying for her hand. There's a war coming. People are dying and being tortured. But sure. That can all wait.
I did come to enjoy Kayla's storyline and the revelations that came with that. And Fen is still a book boyfriend.
Spoiler filled venting time:
I loved the first two books, so I think I will read book four at some point. I just need some space first.
To see more reviews, considering taking a peek at my first in series YA book blog here
2.5 stars this book could be good. SO GOOD...if the authors would just frickin flesh out the characters and storyline. It essentially reads like this :
Fen and Arianna dance the night away. Ariana wants him to come stay the night. Fen says no In the middle of the night Fen changes his mind. Then they ride to battle to kill the usurper
...the battle is literally done in like 4-5 pages. This story moves so damn fast you don't really get to connect with the characters or appreciate the plot. SLOW DOWN JARPOV KINRADE. WHERE IS THE FIRE (pun intended)
Also aside from thr speed of light plot, I still have no idea why Fen and Ari love each other so much because it was NEVER fleshed out or detailed. Does Fen love Ari because she's good and nice? Well.. considering he can't come in contact with any other human girls, we'll never know if there's anything more to his love for Ari?? (and no, Es doesn't count because she's taken!!) Does Ari love Fen for a reason? like literally I don't know. WOULD she have fallen in love with Dean if he'd had her first month?
This series isn't bad, but it reads like a PLOT SUMMARY to any stereotypical fantasy/paranormal. It does read like a book. So, above all else and despite it's entertainment, I can only give it 2.5 stars. Because by book 3, we should know more about the world and characters, yet, we don't.
Karpov Kinrade has done a great job, yet again, at making readers enticed and thrilled by their third novel in the Vampire Girl series - Silver Flame.
This novel keeps up an amazing pace, much like their past two books. Readers will not be disappointed with the fast moving, excellent character driven plot set up by these two incredible authors.
The wait between the novels was worth it - Karpov Kinrade brought their A game to this new release and it should not be missed by readers interested in a story that's not your typical YA/Adult fantasy novel. Ari's back and she's sassy, feisty and a strong female lead. Alliances are made, relationships will be tested, and emotions will be high!
Reading this novel is definitely a must for fantasy lovers. It'll keep you interested while making you yearn for the next novel in the series. This epic continuation of the series is by far my favorite so far, and with my high expectations that I had for it, they definitely hit them and went above and beyond!
So pick up this must read of the season! Give yourself an early Christmas gift and enjoy the beautiful realm Karpov Kinrade have created for their readers! They do not fail when they deliver!
One speech can sway hundreds, one lie change the minds of thousands, and once they are seduced by their fear and lies and a charismatic charlatan who feeds on their basest instincts, no amount of fact or truth or reality will shake them from their madness.
Arianna and Fen are captured by Levi. They must find a way to escape, retake Stonehill, and defeat Levi. One of the brothers surprisingly helps the two to escape. Meanwhile Kayla is in the outlands, where she meets a mysterious stranger named Tavian Grey.
I found a few spelling/word errors. I understand that the authors were having an emergency. I didn't like the Kayla/tavian plot line. I thought the romance was way too rushed and that it was too insta love for me. I'm hoping the last book will be a lot better. These are still fun books to read, and i'm glad they aren't doing an ongoing series.
Much improved from the last one. I enjoyed the added characters, especially Tavian, great secondary ship. The intrigue was good and that cliffhanger wasn't bad. Looking forward to the next one.
i for one don’t leave reviews on books. i skim, read, gush about it for days and leave a 5 star rate and move on. some books became favorites that stuck with me until today, even if it’s been so long since i last touched them. this series punched me in the gut with its surprisingly unique take of the classic lores we all love: vampires and faes. the first book wasn’t much as it introduced world building and rooted us to the characters. but the second book? damn. that’s where the surprise came in. and now this book... the third book. the twists and surprises and scheming.
the author’s take on how they’d make it compelling was successful. it kept me on edge, more curious, sometimes i roll my eye and most of the time i gush and gasp. the twists! it’s incredible. i love how they described war. i love that they didn’t keep everything about morality black and white. i love how they didn’t paint justice as grey. i love the complexity of the characters, the struggles they go through, the truths they must face and i’m excited for more!!
overall this is a solid 5 stars for me!! what an experience.
Silver Flame was everything I've come to expect from a Karpov Kinrade novel, especially one in the Vampire Girl world.
We started off with a teeny bit of backstory, kind of filling in the gaps between what happened at the end of Midnight Star and where we find ourselves at the beginning of Silver Flame. It's Ari filling us in and I love her "voice" as she weaves the tale for us. In this book, however, we get to experience other voices as well, and not just princes! We get another voice to read and I don't want to spoil the surprise, but I think if you enjoyed the previous two books, you'll love reading this beloved character's thoughts.
The end, as I've come to anticipate, held a cliffhanger! I happen to have a love/hate relationship with cliffhangers. I love how this one has made me eager for book 4, but I hate how I have to wait until January! I have to thank the authors for being the kind who turn out a good book in a shorter amount of time than a year! (or MORE!!!) And that we don't have to wait too long to find out what happens next to Ari and the Princes.
If you enjoyed Vampire Girl and Midnight Star, you're going to love this new volume. If you've not picked up the Vampire Girl books yet and are trying to decide whether or not to read them, what are you waiting for??? It's a colorful world filled with mythology and fantasy and creatures and people that your mind and heart with devour and be yearning for more.
This installment suffered a bit more than the last two. It wants to be so complex but unfold so quickly that I kept finding little plot holes caused by the rush in storytelling and the lack of time given to developing the elements. Characters had sudden, unexplained shifts that were purely to suit the plot, rather than being part of the story arc, convenient events occurred purely to bridge event A to event B, etc... I do quite enjoy the ideas and story here and I like the ethics of the tale, but I'm a little sad that the authors prioritized crunching the story down into so few pages that read so fast. I finished this whole book in about 2 hours.
And while I don't hate Kayla, I found the inclusion of her POV to not be the best choice because the book is already so little that trying to have that extra layer of dimension doesn't have much impact. It just kinda felt like "move along, we got the main plot to return to."
Also, I will warn readers that this installment gets a little more touchy; there's a few mentions/hints of rape, and while no graphic event unfold, this book is more candid about rape as a weapon of war and a crime of power. There's also mentions of sex, there's alcohol use, some torture, war, death, executions, etc., etc.... This series is starting to border a bit closer to than line of YA/NA.
I am so, SO glad that I am not Ari! Don't get me wrong, she's a total badass in her own way but this book as her being put through some shi-stuff, and I don't know if I'd handle the same way she does. There is this quiet confidence about her that I admire very much, add that to the fact that she has a very protective nature for just about everyone and she is my idea of the perfect person for Fen.
Speaking of Fen, that poor man is going through so many changes in this book that I feel so bad for him. I just want to reach in and make it all better. I think with Ari there going through the same things that he's going through, they can kind of play off of each other I guess, because they are learning at the same time and discovering what all they can do.
4 stars — This series is still very action packed and fast moving. I can devour these books in less than a day, I get completely wrapped up.
I’m not sure I’ll have as much to say in this review…it’s hard to not be too spoilery, you know? I will say, there was a lot more depravity in this one…vicious acts by a certain Prince in particular. I wasn’t expecting that. And not only that, there is also so much death and destruction, it’s actually hard to take. I can’t help but wonder what will be left to save? I feel like I need more wins…I need someone to root for. I need someone to genuinely want the right thing along with Ari.
I still very much appreciate Arianna, though her fire has been tempered a bit in this one…she’s just got so much going on, and it’s a lot of weight on her shoulders. I will admit that I was not impressed with this one act by Arianna…it felt completely out of character for her. I feel like the authors just wanted to show us this one aspect of the magic, but they didn’t give Ari enough of a good reason to act in this way, so it just annoyed me.
A pleasant surprise for me was the development we saw in Kayla! I didn’t expect to get a secondary story to enjoy, but I was definitely absorbed! And I’m super curious about Tavian and who he is now.
My trust is still shot…I was, and still am, worried about some events that happened at the end of the book, and I feel like this book proved that not trusting isn’t such a bad idea. But I guess I’ll have to wait and see if my theories prove correct.
Dit deel was iets minder. Er kwamen veel wisselingen van perspectief in voor wat niet mijn favoriet is. Over het algemeen was het wel van waarde voor het verhaal hoewel je daar pas later achter komt. Leest wel weer lekker weg!
I just can't even deal with how bomb this damn series is. I freaking love the writing, the worlds, the characters, the twists, turns and drama that goes on in this book. Like how can I wait for the other books. I'm dying of a book hangover.
Arianna as always is freaking amazing. Her power is amazing and she is absolutely phenomenal. I love how strong she is and how she continues to grow. Ari is my favorite character in the story. She is coming into herself as the Midnight Star and Yami is freaking adorable. Fenris, prince of war, is freaking amazing. He is slowly coming into his powers as the Earth Druid and I love it. He is hot in every sense. I love everything about Fenris. I hope he gets over the "not wanting to be king." He needs to be king because he'll be a great one!
Dean, the prince of lust, is much more than I thought he was. He's actually freaking amazing. He's not a real jerk like I thought. I think he has truly falling in love with Ari which was beautiful. He's much sweeter than I ever expected him to be.
Kayla is freaking awesome. I was excited to learn that she was the newest Druid. I can't believe it and the romance with Tavian was cute. Tavian himself is freaking awesome. I love his transformation into the white tiger and the black tiger. I love them!
Levi is freaking annoying. I hate him so much. I need him to die asap. Hopefully Metsi kills him. I'm so over him as a prince. He needs to go. Same goes for King Lucian. I truly hate him from the bottom of my soul. I can't believe all that he is doing to his son's and all that he seeks to do with the Primal One. Ugh I need him to die.
Ughhh, that ending was seriously upsetting. How the hell is she pregnant? Why the hell did Lucian do that to Asher? I need Ari saved she's always being freaking kidnapped. I need more right now. I am going to die from not being able to read the next book soon. Such a great series. Give me book 4 now!!!
I was expecting so much more from this novel. The second book in this series has treachery and lies throughout the storyline and keeps you on your toes for the majority of the book. This book, unfortunately, doesn't follow that trend. It felt like a filler to extend this series into more books. What sealed the nail on the coffin in this book for me was the ending. That was a major turn off.
Arianna was boring this time around. She wasn't witty or smart about anything. There were times when she acted like a petulant child because she couldn't learn something that took most people years to master in 2 hours.
Fenrus didn't feel like a part of the story anymore. He and Arianna are barely in proximity to each other during the whole novel. Nothing between them got progressed (if you don't count the somewhat irrational decision to finally sleep together after he had gone on and on about wanting to wait and take his time). It was one contradiction after the other.
I will most certainly be part of the unpopular opinion when it comes to judging if this book was worth it or not. I despised the ending and all the different character point of views (with the exception of Arianna and Fenrus). Instead of splitting up the story with different point of views it would have been better to get the characters to have a conversation about it when they finally met up. I dislike different point of views when it doesn't add anything important to the story.
The Audio Book:
The audio book was great. The narrations were very well executed and I could differentiate between characters for the majority of the time. Though I'm not a big fan of Joel Froomkin his voice has grown on me.
"Silver Flame" finds both Fen and Ari in the dungeon of the castle Fen once ruled. Levi has taken over as ruler and he easily rises to the title of blood thirty tyrant. He lust and hatred for Arianna has grown tenfold. He shows it by trying to humiliate her into submission by walking her through the crowd naked and filthy. Yet, all is not lost and with the aid of a friend, Fen and Ari escape.
Meanwhile, Dean, Prince of Lust shows up and brings the escapees back to Portland and the dodgy bar fill with all manner of unusual creatures. For a trustworthy safe haven, both Fen and Ari must promise to do a favor for the owner Sky. With his help it becomes clear that the people Ari loves such as Pete and Es. They are brought to the bar where they get a crash course in the unusual. Eventually, all of them must go back to Inferna.
Kayla hears that Levi plans to execute Arianna and Fen so she comes out of hiding to try to save them. Unfortunately, she almost dies before she can get there and ends up being rescued by a handsome stranger who plans to sell her to the highest bidder including the deranged Metsi. Together they quickly realize that they will need to work together if they are going to survive and make a difference.
A resistance against the tyranny of Levi is mounted but not without leaving devastating consequences. The ante in this game has just gotten steep and in typical Karpov Kinrade fashion the ending is one hell of a Dookie!
I enjoyed this read much more than the last installment but feel the plot is becoming somewhat formulaic. Air is hurt, then Fen is hurt. Air is capture, the Fen is captured. There is a surprise rescue, New characters are introduced and then there is an unexpected ending- Repeat! I am hoping book four will not be more of the same.
The much awaited 3rd book in the vampire girl series is finally here and it does not disappoint. This action packed, fast paced adventure takes everything we have learned and experienced so far and turns it on its head. Karpov kinrade have constructed An amazing world of fantasy, combining the reality of our world with that of the paranormal. They have created characters that grow and change as the story progresses allowing us the opportunity to experience their new ideologies and beliefs, their hopes for the future and a side we never expected to see, especially from the lord of lust. Deans character is a lot deeper than I initially thought,I loved discovering this mans hidden sides.
"Don't make deals with devils or you'll end up dead!"
A war is raging, brother turns against brother and death is imminent. At the end ofbook 2 the truth of Fen and Ari identity is revealed, book 3 begins with the aftermath of the battle. Family secrets are unwrapped as the princes tell the tale of how Fen became the 7th prince of hell. Ari is struck dumb by the news, a fae, a Druid had he always known, had he kept this a secret from her, was any of it real? Ari is thrust into prison as the turmoil of all that had come to pass crashes down around her. Her allies have gone, hate and mistrust burn in their eyes and she soon realised that she must look after herself, she must escape.
Can our heroine make it out of the dark world she has been thrust upon? As friend becomes foe, who can she trust, who will teach her how to harness her power and bring the 2 worlds together.
"When we live our lives in darkness, the shadows seem like the only reality, and the truth is to blinding to accept".
Once again, Karpov Kinrade has lived up to and exceeded expectations. I loved this book, but that's not surprising in the least. The pacing is smooth and the twists are great. There are alternating points of view between Ari, Fen and Kayla. It's nice to get some more insight into Kayla and her views on things, as well as one of the other princes (whose point of view we don't read, but he and his realm are featured in this book). I won't say whom, as that is one of the surprises. We also get introduced to some new characters, namely Sly Devil and Tavian Gray.
The book starts off with Ari imprisoned. If you remember, Ari was revealed to princes in Midnight Star to be of a Royal Fae bloodline. Most of the princes didn't take too kindly to that. And then when they found out about Fen as well, they were both imprisoned, leaving the brothers trying to decide who to trust and who to believe. Most felt betrayed and lied to. You can't keep Ari and Fen down though, and they manage to get free (how I won't say). Most of the book finds them on the run while trying to figure out how to straighten things out until it's safe to go back home. Es and Pete inadvertently get to visit Inferna - which, as you can imagine, comes as quite a shock. Ari also finally explains to them about everything that's been going on. This only adds to their shock. One last thing I will add is this, if you didn't like Prince Levi before this book, you certainly won't like him now. That's all I'll say on that ;)
Anyway, I loved this book and I would definitely recommend it.
I wanted to love this book, I had eagerly waited for it to be released, but when it came out, I found the story to be disjointed. I loved the first two books, but this one seemed rushed and hurried with the writing choppy and abrupt. I usually enjoy all the visual writing the authors use, but didn't get that same feel from this book.
What I liked: The end of the book is great. I really gets into the usual feel and flow of the series. I like the main character, and that she has a heart to help others. I like some of the characters and the twists they seem to play with the plot.
What I didn't like: You cannot read this book as a stand alone. I have read the prior two, and started this one trying to figure out who was whom and where they were as there is no backstory explained. As well, no overview of which vampire was in charge of which world, and most of the other vamps weren't even mentioned in the story. I like a tiny bit of backstory to explain who is whom in order to keep your mind in the loop. Short of re-reading the prior books, you won't get that. I didn't enjoy that at the end 1/4 of the book two characters from the first two books suddenly appear in their own storyline, but haven't been mentioned in the book prior.
I'm looking forward to the next book in the series to see if we get back on track. I think this was a hard book to write as it was in the kingdom of lust and without going full on x rated, what do you write about that kingdom?
I did receive an advanced copy in return for a fair and honest review.
The Vampire Girl series is just so good and Silver Flame did not disappoint. This world is beautiful but it's also dark, gritty and full of dangers. This is the third book so if you have read the first and second books you know how good this series is and don't really need a review so I am just going to do a slight skim of the book.
The plot continues with Ari trying to save not just the fae but everyone and bring peace to the world but she is so desperate to do so that she does reckless things and doesn't see the dangers that are staring her right in the face. She is so good but she is starting to realize that there may also be something else deep within her and she is struggling to learn. I love the fact that she doesn't give up and always tries. She doesn't see her self as a princess but as someone who has the power to change things. She is really one of the most decent characters that I have ever read.
Inferno/Avakiri is in such turmoil the princes are fighting and it's pretty much all out war and the things that are happening to the fae and shade are horrible. The story is moving along great with surprises from characters that I didn't expect, some of the events that occurred was an all out shock and the revelations at the end of Silver Flame have me dying to read the final book, Moonlight Prince.
This is all am can say without revealing the huge surprises in the book and spoiling it just trust me read this book, read the series.
