The Valley of Death
A century after his Great-Grandfather Cornelius vanished in the Amazon rainforest, Edward Perkins is journeying to the depths of the jungle to find out what became of his ancestor’s lost expedition. Intrigued by what appears to be a description of a crashed spacecraft in the diaries of that first voyage, the Doctor and Leela join him on his quest. But when their plane runs into trouble and ends up crash landing, everyone gets more than they bargained for.

The jungle is filled with giant creatures and angry tribesmen, all ready to attack. But in the famed lost city of the Maygor tribe, something far, far worse is lurking. Something with an offer to make to mankind. Who are the Lurons and can they be trusted? Will the Doctor defeat the plans of the malevolent Godrin or will he become just another victim of the legendary Valley of Death?

Anthony Howell's vocal performance as Perkins has an eerie similarity to Geoffrey Beevers, so at first I thought maybe the Doctor was encountering the Master before he degraded to the charred wreck Master here in the Amazon, and then realized it was a different actor.. the concept that time moves slower in the Amazon pretty fascinating. Becomes boiler plate run around part 2 onwards. Mercifully shorter than Foe From the Future. Some good Tom & Louise banter though as always.

I like these "lost" stories, scripts from the classic era that never got made, adapted for modern audio dramas. They feel like classic Dr. Who. I love hearing Tom Baker's voice as the Doctor, and Louise Jameson is so distinctive as Leela. Both actors returning to their classic roles is so welcome and so nostalgic for me.

Great fun as always. The big finish audio adventures are always great fun, and this one is no exception. I still have a couple more of these, I bought as a humble bundle a couple years ago. No idea why it took me so long to get to them, but here we are, and having a great time listening. If you are a fan, and you get the chance to own some of these, you should jump at the chance.

This was another quick listen and I enjoyed. The plot was well thought out and I enjoyed seeing Leela and the Doctor go on an earthbound adventure as they join an expedition to find a lost explorer and a fabled city of gold.

Very fun - it starts as a rollicking adventure story, as a famous adventurer's great-grandson receives funding from a royal society to retrace his final expedition.
