The land has become unnaturally quiet. It's as if everyone is waiting for some sign that Xandre can be beaten. That someone will stand up to him, and win.

With Shanti calling the shots, and Cayan's battle know-how, it seems certain that the Chosen can be the catalyst. That they can lead the oppressed to freedom.

But Xandre didn't become the Being Supreme by chance, and he doesn't intend for his rule to be stripped away so easily. He has already started to gather his forces, and with the entire land under his control, gaining a foothold seems impossible.

The final battle is brewing, and the winner is anything but decided...

Shanti rocks.

Girls rule.

Guys are hilarious, grumpy wimps. But we love them anyway. Kind of. For the technical stuff. Ha.

3 stars, but I am giving it an extra 0.5 star only because of Sander's awesomeness.

This book is good, but I feel like the series is going out of energy a bit. Siege is still a very enjoyable and fast-paced book, but the plot is starting to get repetitive. I love Shanti, Rohnan, Cayan, Sanders, and the Honor guard, but I think it's time to wrap up this series before it becomes too repetitive. A city being taken over by Xandre's army, Shanti and her crew trying to infiltrate and free it. Some fights, some mind-power battles, and poisonings. Nothing really new...

Things are getting more serious, different allies have joined Shanti, and they now need to learn how to work together and rely on each other, because only together do they stand a chance at vanquishing Xandre. Shanti is still a stubborn, strong, and kick-ass woman, caring about everyone around her and trying to save everyone, even if it means sacrificing herself. Having at least three different cultures coexist in the same city, and in the same army can become very chaotic, especially for our dear Sanders who likes good traditional values.

All these cultures being confined within the same walls was jarring, at best. If someone wasn’t wandering around naked, he was bathing in a pond, or roasting a pig in his front yard. Two Shumas were caught having sex in the trees in the large park, and Shadow loitered in all the parts of the city, quiet and deadly. Sanders was open-minded, sure, but this was just ridiculous.

The first 10% of this book is hilarious. Sanders is losing his shit because he feels like he's living in crazy-town, and his snarky comments are delightful. I loved his attempts at self-control throughout the whole book and I always laughed or smile when he was present. He is definitely one of my favorite characters in this series, and he adds the sarcastic and funny touch that I loved so much in Chosen.

“What in the holy hell is going on here?” Sanders marched into a front yard where the oldest of the Shumas was standing, looking at a blooming pink flower. A corset wrapped around his middle. His manhood dangled between his legs.
(...)
Sanders pinched the bridge of his nose. “Why is he wearing women’s undergarments? How could this possibly be normal where you come from?”
“What’s going on?” Shanti jogged up before taking one look at Tulous and cracking a giant smile. She rattled off something in her own language.
“And he’s got it on backwards,” Sanders growled. Two giant, empty cups stuck out from the man’s muscular back and the lacing wound down his stomach, a little off center. The device was obviously meant for a larger woman—how else would it fit Tulous? Somewhere around this city, someone was waltzing around with two huge breasts swinging free.
That would probably be the next fad.
“My life was so quiet…” Sanders mused as Tulous spoke to Shanti in their language....
Shanti ... gestured at Tulous. “His back is strained. He was looking for a brace and found this. He was given permission to borrow it.”
“Granted the right—” Sanders cut off and started walking away, shaking his head. His patience was all used up. Soon he’d just start stabbing people, and that sort of behavior was frowned upon when there was no enemy present."

Hopefully, this somewhat repetitive book is a set-up for a grand finale in the sixth book. I try not to get my expectations too high so I don't get disappointed if it's not as epic as I hope it will be after reading over 1000 pages of this adventure that all led to this very moment when Shanti finally faces Xander.

*** 3.35 ***

This was a good addition to the series, but it being the fifth book, it felt as if the series is going out of energy a bit... I have enjoyed every book very much, including this one, but the narrative felt a bit forced and the plot started not only to repeat itself, but also meander quite a bit. However, even with all of that, Shanti is still her old, bossy self, worried and caring about her people and all the allies who have been trickling to the city, gathering and learning how to work with each other in order to prevail against the Big-Bad Xandre, who is set on taking over the world. Having at least three different cultures in such tight quarters is very chaotic, but most of all very taxing on the nerves of our favorite bad humored Sanders, a man of simple needs, good traditional values and resister of change... I loved his attempts at self control through the whole book and as always feel that he steals the scene every time he is on page:):):)

"...Sanders pointed at Tulous’ exposed bells and whistle. “We don’t have outside bathhouses in this neck of the land. We wear clothes when we’re outside. This has been explained to you people.”
“Ah yes.” Sayas nodded in understanding. “You tepid.”
“Tepid? You’ve gotten some words mixed up there, man.” Sanders glanced around, noticing two women standing opposite the lane, gawking. “Well? Move along,” he yelled. “This isn’t something for you to see.”
“They are curious,” Tulous said.
“Want inspect.” Sayas grinned and slapped Tulous on the back.
“They’re married with children—they know how one of those works, and now they’re probably horrified and headed straight to the Women’s Circle.” Sanders pinched the bridge of his nose.

“Granted the right—” Sanders cut off and started walking away, shaking his head. His patience was all used up. Soon he’d just start stabbing people, and that sort of behavior was frowned upon when there was no enemy present."..."

I laughed my but off at this and several more scenes, most of them involving Sanders or Leilius and his budding sexuality:):):) If only for those, this book was worth reading!!!

The plot was... veeeeery similar to all the ones up to here... A city taken over by the bad guys and our good guys try to infiltrate and free it. Some battles, some attempts at mind-to-mind war and poisonings, some unfortunate losses were also accrued... The way I reconcile this with myself is thinking that it is a set-up book for the grand finale, which will be in book 6, I think. So, here is to a very grand finale and hopes that the author doesn't let us down after giving us the pleasure of such fun and lovable characters!!!

Now I wish you all Happy Reading and many more wonderful books to come!!!

Everytime I think this series can't get any better K.F. Breene proves me wrong and Siege is without a doubt my favourite book so far. The action is pretty much non stop from the first page and you can really tell that things are ramping up in anticipation of the final battle against Xandre.

Now that Shanti and Cayan have been widely recognised as the Chosen they are slowly starting to increase the numbers in their army. They already have Cayan's well trained forces, along with all the new female recruits after the women showed what they were made of in the last book, but now they also have the Shadow and Shanti's people who are slowly coming out of hiding and gathering together. All three groups have very different fighting styles and abilities so it's up to Shanti and Cayan to try and bring them together into a cohesive unit and find a way to get the most out of everyone. Obviously there are tensions between the different groups but I'm really enjoying seeing them learn to get along and all the culture clashes added a lot of humour to the story.

For a long time Shanti and Cayan have been putting off a direct confrontation with Xandre but things are finally reaching a point where they have to go on the offensive if they want to have any hope of coming out on top. They still don't have the numbers that Xandre does but what they do have is loyal fighters who are incredibly determined to win. One thing I found really interesting was seeing how downtrodden townsfolk react to rumours of the Chosen or the Wanderer, the prophecies about Shanti are an inspiration to so many and she gives them the courage to stand up for themselves and fight against all odds. We get to see a few familiar but unexpected faces from previous books that shows just how well K.F. Breene has been laying the groundwork all along.

All of our favourite characters are given a chance to shine here, of course you have Shanti who, along with her equally stubborn and vicious war horse,  kicks butt and takes no prisoners everywhere she goes, then there's Cayan whose fighting prowess and leadership abilities have never been in question but you also have the Honor Guard with characters like Marc who isn't really the best fighter but does what he has to to survive and Rohnan who is incredibly loyal to Shanti. Sanders has always been a particular favourite of mine, he may have some very outdated (and quite sexist) views but even he can't deny that the female soldiers have their uses and he always adds a huge amount of humour to every scene he appears in. One of my favourite conversations in the book was this one between Sanders and Shanti:

“Take care of it,” he demanded of Shanti over his shoulder. “We don’t need a bunch of dicks wagging around this city.”

“You already have a bunch of dicks wagging around the city,” Shanti yelled back. “They’re the ones barking orders.”

I'm sad that the next book will be the last in the series but I'm loving the direction the story is heading and I can't wait to find out how everything ties together. The Warrior Chronicles series is one of my favourites, you have all the qualities of a kickass urban fantasy heroine but in a more traditional fantasy setting and I'm loving every minute of it!

It’s time for this series to come to an end. So much of this felt like filler. There was a hell of a lot of action, but at the end the story didn’t advance much compared to where it began. Character development was seriously lacking unless learning that Leilius is kinky in the sack is character development. How is it possible for so much and so little to occur in the same book?

Honestly I thought this was the last book when I started it, but obviously I was wrong. After reading all of the other books, I want to know how it all ends although it’s not really a big mystery. This is not one of those series where there's a good possibility the characters I love will die. Chances are Shanti and Cayan will march in there, kick Xandre’s ass, and survive.

I didn’t hate this, but it was seriously disappointing. Definitely the worst book in the series so far. I started skimming after a while when there was once action scene after another but nothing useful was being learned from it.

As the series has gone on the cast of characters has expanded greatly. I don’t have a problem with that. What I don’t like is that the focus of the series is spread amongst all of those characters rather than remaining on Shanti and Cayan. They are the core of the series. Yet I feel like they’ve been relegated to side characters.

The one thing that salvaged this book for me was the humor. I busted out laughing a few times. Sanders was the funniest of them all. He reminds me of a crotchety old grandparent who refuses to accept change and is hilarious while they bitch about it.

I will read the next one, but I can’t say I’m looking forward to it. My expectations are really low.

Shanti and Cayan are traveling across the land with the goal of igniting rebellion against Xandre. In order to do that, Shanti must make a big statement to activate the Wanderer network, so they decide to liberate one of the larger cities in Xandre's control.

Well, I've been reading this series nonstop for the entire day and I don't plan to stop yet. I'll finish it by the end of the night regardless of my need for sleep. Yep, I'm that hooked. I just love all the characters and how they interact with each other. If I had one complaint it would be that the sexy times aren't very detailed, but that is just the perv in me. It should be perfectly fine to describe characters as falling into bed with each other and leave it at that. I mean, we all have imaginations, right? Only one more book to go! Yay! I can't wait for Xandre to get what is coming to him. It's interesting, we really don't have many examples of what is so horrid about him, other than viciously conquering the people of the land; however, the fact that he wants to "breed" Shanti is what cements him in the evil category for me. I kind of have an automatic gag reflex when it comes to the bad guy wanting to "breed" the MC, or women in general. It makes me want to throw up every time I read the words. It has come up frequently enough in this series, that I'm ready for him to meet his doom.

This series is awesome. Very strong warrior heroine who has earned respect. She thinks with a level head, fights like super ninja and has mental powers to fight with.
I need to re-read this series the next time I get annoyed by some idiot, simpering helpless heroine.

This story is a continuation of the series and the fight against the BIG BAD.

Sanders has truly grown into one of my fav characters ever. His abrasiveness just speaks to me.

She hadn't wanted to be disturbed by busybodies like Sanders, who had already wandered by an hour ago. He pretended to hate the very thought of her, and then worried when she was missing. He was a severely emotionally repressed individual.

Ready to finally reach this freakin conclusion lets gooooo

Siege is book five in the Chosen series... Truth to be told....it has some lengths. It took me like forever to read it.
Still everytime I was reading, I loved the people and their journey, but it couldn't hold my attention long enough and it didn't call me back to read more.

You heard right....that's me guys - the books speak to me....like screaming my name....begging me to neglect everything just to come back and READ!!!! This one did NOT ;-(.

So....yeah...it was a book that I could put down easily and it was dragging.

Until the end fight......boy I had goosebumps....it was nerve wrecking and energetic and gripping.....but very late in the book.
I still love my favourite kick-ass heroine Shanti with her sarcastic remarks, her faithful brother Rohnan, her strong lover Cayan and her bloody bastard-horse.

Of course I want to see how they bring Xandre down and so I'll read part six....but I really have to admit, that it would have been better for the whole series, if there were only five books with more action, than six books with dragging lengths.

I've almost lost interest and that would've be a shame, because Shanti deserves more.

Read other books by this author in the future: yes
MCs: Shanti & Cayan

I am writing just one review for the whole series and you will finde the same review in all six books!

The warrior chronicles is a great series, which includes the books Chosen, Hunted, Shadow Lands, Invasion, Siege and Overtaken.

The whole series reminded me a lot of older fantasy series where you have a world building, people with different gifts and humans, some beasts and basically the war good against bad. And I would place Worrier Chronicles with series like Belgariad (David Eddings), the Darkover series (Marion Zimmer Bradley), The Riftwar Cycle (Raymond Feist).

Shanti, the FMC, is a strong heroine with some self doubt but a strong loyalty for her people and knowing and accepting her duty. Cayan, the MMC, who is kind of a king in a city that is faring very well, is also a strong hero. Both are well matched.

And there are a lot of side characters, which we grow to love, like Rohan, who is Shantis protector and brother, Sanders (a higher ranking soldier in Cayans army), the boys who grow into men of her honour guard and several more.

I actually binged the first four and a half books but then I realised that if I binge the last 1.5 books left then I will have to leave this characters and this world behind and only a reread will bring me back there. And I felt very reluctant to leave it behind, so I started to read only little bits to prolong my stay with Shanti and Cayan and the other. In the end I decided that I have to take the pill and binge it to the end.

Breene is a great author and I really love the series. And I would truly recommend it to fans of above mentions authors.

CRY

I AM SO DISAPPOINTED!!

I've given every book in this series 4+ stars and then this book...I don't know what happened. I almost DNFed. Seriously.

All previous books have been so good because of the Shanti-Cayan chemistry and their incredible supporting cast. This book had only ...4 conversations between Shanti and Cayan AT ALL. It was like they were so at peace with one another that they just forgot the other existed. It was so sad.

Then we read a bunch from the supporting cast perspective but Sanders was not as funny & interesting as normal, we barely heard about Marc at all, even Shanti's child warriors were basically glazed over. It was a battle book - how we fought, killed, and conquered, with NO CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT.

Seriously.

Happened

After waiting for this book for so long I just feel...unfulfilled. I mean ultimately the last 3 chapters were good and set it up to maybe return to it's former glory in the next book but I still just feel...empty.

4 Stars... It is time for the people to rise and take their vengeance... Shanti and Cayan must rally their followers and demonstrate their strength and perseverance... Engaging the enemy in order to exterminate the fear and control... In a game of cat and mouse who will arise as the victor?... Humor, action, romance, friendship, and loyalty all coalesce to bring forth the much anticipated final book in this riveting series.:)

Enjoyable rebellion start, the best parts for me are when the honor guard infiltrate a city. These are the most exciting and varied parts of the book. Very much looking forward to the concluding book in the series.

Not as good as the others in this series. Sure, still a lot of action and plotting but the story did not improve. I am only giving it a 3 because fewer interactions between Cayan and Shanti which I really looked forward to in the past. I still love Sanders though and the honor guard. Although, I can't help but agree with the other reviewers that this needs to end. I mean, they need to defeat Xandre. Kiss his butt once and for all so they can have their peace and Cayan and Shanti will have their HEA. I still enjoyed it though.

Siege has the storyline moving forward towards the final showdown with Xandre, which has been building across the whole series. Lots of action and fight scenes as Shanti and Cayan find themselves tested by the enemy.

The storyline is really overflowing with characters now, what with Shanti and Cayan, the Honor Guard, the Women's Circle, the Shadow People and the Shumas. It does get pretty busy at times with so many characters, but it is clear that the success of Shanti and Cayan in ongoing battles is dependent on everyone of these characters having a role to play.

Sanders is still my favourite, he is so grumpy and finds his patience being constantly challenged by all the new additions. He is a fan of structure and everyone behaving in a way that he finds socially acceptable, so the Shumas and the Women's Circle push all his buttons with little effort........."He had a wife. He didn't need any more women to argue with him"..........Sanders adds that little bit of humour to the storyline, his exasperation with pretty much everyone so evident.

Awesome! Big bounce back from book 4. The final battle in this one was much better. The army is finally assembled and now its time for some serious revenge! I could feel Cayan's pain at the end of this one... boy is he pissed now. I can't wait to see the hell he unleashes in the next book! Starting the final installment, very excited!

It’s been a while since I read book four, but I do think this book was more of the same. It does feel quite repetitive at times, and I am very much hanging for that big final battle to happen already. Shanti is gathering a following, and with Cayman’s help they set out to free townships from the Inka and Graygual. There’s a pretty huge cast of characters by this point, and the book is filled with the usual humour and shenanigans that really makes this series shine.

Side note: I’m half way through the last book and I’ve already read the bonus epilogue Breene posted on her website so I know how it ends. 🙈🙈
