The Star Child was one of the first proper Fantasy novels I read from an author I didn't know when I first started blogging. I was sent the book to review, as I was a part of the Love a Happy Ending magazine review team and I didn't know what to expect but it soon became one of my favourite series. It had everything: Romance, humour, excitement and the series just kept getting better and better with each book! I was thrilled when I knew Steph was going to be releasing a series of novellas after the initial series ended but that focused on one of the most well-loved characters in the story - Gabe. This is the next (and I believe last?) instalment to this fantastic series.

I'll be completely honest and say that I am firmly running out of things to say about Steph and her books and I also completely understand that in order to understand this novella, you'll probably need to read all the other books first but I could 100% recommend them to anyone who loves Fantasy to begin with, amazing, diverse characters and a whole mix of emotions rolled into one book. They are the perfect YA books for someone who may want to ease themselves into Fantasy novels or for younger adults (although keep in mind this one is a New Adult novella and does contain adult language and scenes! Just a heads up!)

Just as with the others, Steph's talent and voice shines through in this novella and if I didn't know what book I was reading, there'd be absolutely no doubt that it was hers. As with all her books, the strong YA presence in these stories is palpable. The Star Child series just keeps getting better and better and when you think it's over and nothing else could possibly happen to these characters you've come to know and love, Steph hits you with something else. None of her books feel "over-done" like she should have stopped the story ages ago. Each novel and novella has an important place in this magnificent story.

I loved Gabe just as much as always in this book - he really doesn't change and I've always said I loved his wit, his humour and his ability to make everything seem that little bit more normal in an otherwise very abnormal world. He's that character you can really relate to - the most real. Wherever Steph goes next, either with this series or an entirely new one, I just know it's going to be amazing. She's a wonderful storyteller which although is directed at Young Adults, could appeal to a much wider audience. Her writing is effortless and engaging and she is exceptionally talented. I have always and will always admire Steph's work and A Faerie Wedding was no exception.

Well done Steph, for knocking my socks off once again.

I don’t even know where to start my review with this one.

Ok. I’ve read the Star Child series in its entirety now – each full-length book and the novellas that have come with. I’ve adored this series. Stephanie Keyes’ writing is truly fantastic and I think I crowned her my “go-to fantasy author” and that is still very much the case. In truth, she’s one of very few authors that make me turn to fantasy novels these days.

When I heard that Stephanie had written another companion novella to the series a little while after we’d possibly seen it end, I was thrilled at the chance to be back with Kellen, Cali and Gabe again (well actually mostly Gabe *swoons*) and I didn’t even realise just how much I’d missed these characters and that’s after a good few months of mourning the series’ end! I know companion novellas aren’t everyone’s cup of tea – to be honest, they’re not mine either – but A Faerie Wedding was wonderfully written and did huge justice to a fantastic series. I think Stephanie’s next work in progress needs to be a how-to guide on writing the perfect companion novella because she has hit the nail on the head here.

It’s hard to talk about the actual book because it is very short. Really you need to have read the series for this companion novella to make complete sense, and just in case you’ve not read it, I don’t want to spoil that for you. Having said that, Stephanie’s writing is really accessible and if you had somehow started with A Faerie Wedding, you’d fall in love with her writing too I’m sure of that. I do really really really recommend reading the series though. Each book is engaging, cleverly plotted and faultlessly entertaining.

Briefly talking about A Faerie Wedding’s story though, it is told from Gabe’s perspective. Gabe is in my opinion the star of the whole series. He has so much character and personality and you can believe in him and root for him whilst at the same time he throws in one-liners that have you giggling away. You get to the stage where you think Gabe doesn’t have it in him to take anything seriously and then he’s back to his protective, thoughtful self and, if you’re me, you fall in love with him all over again! Gabe’s one of my favourite bookish characters and it was just so brilliant to have this book told from his POV as his voice really stands out above all others.

Stephanie drew me right back into this fantasy world from page one of A Faerie Wedding and it felt like I’d never left. Each character is so vivid that I remember them and I remember so much about their stories so I was allowed to reconnect straight away. This novella is all about the character development and Stephanie manages to squeeze in ups and downs, humour and emotion and those moments that place a huge smile on your face in just less than 70 pages, which is some feat.

I could ramble on some more but then I’ll end up ruining what happens for you. I just want to recommend this series again and again because it’s impossible not to enjoy it I promise you that. A Faerie Wedding was simply the icing on the cake.

After having helped save the world, Gabe can’t imagine anything better than marrying the woman he loves. But, when he attempts to ask she ends everything with him. Feeling lost he goes back to his best friend for help. What he doesn’t expect is for Kellan to set him free of his duties. Gabe feels lost and aimless. It will take the advice of someone on the outside to set him straight. When he finally decides what he wants will he be able to get the happily ever after he deserves?

I adored this story. Gabe is one of my favorite characters in this series. He is sweet, devoted and head strong. All of those qualities made him an awesome Protector. But, when those duties are taken away he is aimless and weak for the very first time in his life. In this story, we get to see the softer side and vulnerable side to a character that wasn’t allowed to be. Stephanie Keyes does a fantastic job taking a strong character and making him relatable in a weakness that every one goes through at some point. This final story in this series has done a fine job with its story and characters. This is one series I will truly miss.

It had been a while since I had visited this magical world so I was little concerned that I’d struggle to fall into the storyline. I needn’t have worried because in no time at all I was wrapped up in what was going on in front of me.

Something that has always stuck in my mind about this series is how likeable the characters were and this book was no different. I wanted the best for all of them so when an unexpected twist came along I felt confused but intrigued to find out where it would lead.

For me, this wasn’t just a story about a wedding (as I had first thought it would be after reading the title) but also about self-discovery and finding your place in the world.

The author has a magical style of writing that makes the impossible seem possible and brings all sorts of weird and wonderful creatures to life!

This was a quick and enjoyable read. A fabulous addition to The Star Child series.
