CLOSER QUARTERS Plumbing problems erupt in Dorm 1, forcing the residents to move into Dorms 2 and 3. Mizuki must now deal with two male roommates, one of whom introduces her to a dorm custom she could never have imagined! Dr. Umeda reflects on his past after hearing from an old friend, while Mizuki and Sano find their mutual attraction pulling them ever closer to the brink!
Mizuki continues to be too naïve to be believed in a story where the students from another dorm end up rooming with the students in theirs due to an emergency repair. The other half of the volume is taken up with a story about Umeda, which gives some minor background for a tertiary character who I'm not convinced is either interesting or important enough to devote so many pages to. My reading this series continues to run a thin line between due diligence and enjoyment. Glancing through the cover copy for a couple of the other volumes, I have completely forgotten their "plots," which is another indicator of whether this one's a keeper or not...
Mizuki is an idiot and deserves to get caught. This volume is pure filler with barely any relevant character or plot development. The extra story in fact takes up half the volume, and whilst I like Umeda, I'm not sure I needed a shallow 3-part backstory.
I don't like it.
Side story was a bit serious (Dr. Umeda's!), but still good. I like how HN creates and develops her characters. This volume was published in 2006, but her characters are such strong and "open" characters, not something I would expect people to be very open about writing or reading at that time. Love it!

I think confidence is one of the most important leadership skills. Only someone who's totally confident in himself can successfully lead a group.
This was a cute arc with lots of tension between Mizuki and Sano. The second half of the book is also great for Umeda fans (ignore the homophobic reviews of this volume). It focuses on his complicated high school crush.
I almost gave it 4 stars because I didn’t like the Umeda stories at the end as much as the main story, but this volume had great details in the main story so I gave it 5 stars anyway just for that part…
SPOILER Un par de perlas de este tomo: -La homosexualidad del doctor es culpa de su hermana. Claro, porque la homosexualidad se hace. -Vestir a un niño con ropa de mujer puede confundirlo.
I enjoyed the end story but I agree with the mangaka that there's clearly more to the story that needs to be told. Maybe she'll show us in later volumes...
Mizuki is an idiot, but what’s new? Anyways, I love the Umeda content. He’s one of my favorite characters and knowing more about him and his past always feels like a treat. 4/5.
Oh my god!!!1! I loooove this seriesss!! It's my favorite shoujo series and my second favorite manga series of ALL TIME! I just love everything about it!! I would totally do what Mizuki did.. though I don't think I could get away with it.... especially not in a Japanese school... -_- WELL! That's just not fair. Anyway, It's sooooo funny! AH! It's all so great! I can't contain the fan-girl in me! :O I even loved the TV series! (Especially the Taiwanese one! Ella and Jiro were hilarious!)
Honestly I am seriously thinking of taking a brake from this manga. It's been almost 80 chapters and I still don't see any character development or any progress in Mizuki's and Sano's relationship! It's only filled with a lot of filler chapters. Don't get me wrong, I still like the series, but I am going to take a brake from it and give another manga a chance. I'll finish this one in another time.
I binge read all of Hana Kimi. It's easy to see why that is so easy once you get into the second chapter of the series. Hana Kimi is filled with complex character moments, tension, and fun. All the characters come to life and its hard to put the story down. I've read my fair share of manga over the years and will continue to. I have the feeling that Hana Kimi will remain one of my favorites. I can't wait to get in a reread.
I absolutely adore just every character in the series just seems to make it, even the minor characters. The thing I like about this series, however, is that every volume is really different and enticing - it's not so repetitive like other books/manga that I have read. I really love that about Hana-Kimi.
I didn't enjoy this one as much, probably because the last half of it was devoted to Umeda's backstory. I love Umeda, but his story just didn't interest me.
I did like Sano's and Mizuki's guest though. Kadoma is adorable. And of course, Sano and Mizuki are getting eeever closer...
here's where the art changes around the eyes, and will increasingly look like they are wearing eyeliner or are just sleep deprived. yeah, not quite fond of this change, but oh well
