HER: I thought the only thing I feared was living another day in the hell my life had become. But when I looked at his hulking, tattooed body, the icy brutality in his eyes, I realized I was wrong.
HIM: Familie. My clan. I’d fight for it, kill for it, die for it. It’s all that matters to me. But her innocence, only barely hidden by thick layers of makeup, the curves that her tight dress can’t hide, calls to me. So I’ve decided to keep her. No matter how deadly the consequences.
This book was recommended to me by one of my bookclub members! This was the Best purchase Of an author that I've never read before. But I know her now this book was excellent. And very Caliente!!! The alpha male in the story is A Russian crime boss named Vasile. He's a tall heavily tattooed all muscle and ALL deadly business. Vasile is conducting business with an associate that he knows hates. But he must speak with this man in order to keep the clans that he is part of working smoothly. During this meeting he notices a beautiful woman who is serving drinks to him and the hated associate. He also notices that hated sassociate is being very rude and degrading to The beautiful woman that he has noticed. Fawn is trapped she is the kept woman of that hated associate. Fawn is basically a slave that is either beaten or verbally abused constantly. She doesn't know if she's coming or going and all of this is witnessed by Vasile. As you would expect normally Vasile would not give two flying f*cks what a man did with his woman but something struck him and he made a decision to KEEP her!! The storyline was perfect I totally enjoyed this story can't wait for the Second installment! <3
It was a decent and quick read. I finished it in one sitting. The book can be better if there’s a solid foundation of the Romanian Mafia. With its lack of background, there’s no direction and the plot appears to be basic. It’s an interracial romance and I wish the heroine’s story is fleshed out. Everything is fast paced.
I have discovered another Interracial Mob/Mafia author and I am excited about that.
This is Fawn and Vasile's story. I really enjoyed the story very much. The only thing that would have made it better for me is much more dialogue between the couple. When they were going through that very difficult time they did not really speak to each other about their feelings and this placed a strain on their relationship. I wanted to see them have more couple time. Outside of that an excellent read!!
I am really looking forward to reading this author's other books and well as the rest of this series.
Fawn is trapped with a criminal madman. She is his to use, and abuse at leisure...until Vasile, a more powerful monster, claims her for his own.
The Good: 1. It was darkish, but not over the top traumatic.
2. Though the male lead is an anti-hero, Vasile is actually good to heroine.
3. Does a good job of describing the heroines larger body size, as sexy and attractive. Actually curvy, instead of bumpy descriptions I too often run into.
The Bad: 1. Though I've never read anything about the Romanian mob, this book offers no insight into it either. This a very generic story. It could have been about any criminal subgroup.
2. Interracial and Multicultural romance, but you don't really learn anything about either lead's background, so outside of physical descriptions it does not add any layering to the storytelling.
Final Thoughts: In general this is just very basic. It wasn't bad, but not that good either. I had no problem finishing it so, that does work in its favor.
Very quick read. It was interesting and held my attention the whole way through. I just wish there would have been back story to characters, that they would have been more fleshed out. While I felt their connection in the moment, I didn't connect to them as individual characters.
That said, I loved the mafia action, the dark tone, and the fast pace. If you are looking for a quick mafia read with a touch of darkness, give this one a try.
This book is so freaking bad. I am actually disgusted and I hate the person who recommended it to me. And btw in what world does a woman who has spent the past few years like a prisoner and raped and sex-trafficked want to sleep with someone a week after being freed????? My head hurts from reading this book and trying to find sense
This is me in a mood trying to find a book to read. It is a good book. Easy to read and there is a plot. I don't know what kind of book I'm looking for but this wasn't the one.
Fawn has survived years of abuse. She hasn't been allowed to give up. Her boyfriend thinks he owns her and likes to show her off to other business partners. In trying to impress Vasile, he offers her services. Vasile sees something in Fawn that he wants to protect and he decides to take her from this man who treats her with such contempt.
It has gotten so bad for Fawn that even a stranger is preferable to her current life. He seems so cold but she knows he can protect her. Their relationship is not easy or simple. Vasile is in charge of the clan and takes his responsibilities seriously. He hasn't allowed room for anything else. He is a criminal and has to always watch his actions and understand the consequences. Taking her was not on his agenda and creates issues he has to deal with. Slowly they begin to accept each other.
Their journey together is very interesting to watch. Vasile doesn't really think Fawn understands what he does and can accept him totally. Fawn didn't start out in this life but she has listened and observed and she knows she can't go back. She does have to resolve some issues with an old friend.
He is not a good guy. He commits crimes including murder. On the other hand, is intensely loyal to those he loves. You can definitely see that part of the attraction. It takes time for his walls to open up.
I enjoyed the supporting characters as well and would like to see a story featuring his younger brother next.
From the blurb this sounded like the perfect book for me and there's a lot here to like but it was missing something. Vasile is a powerful man he's just taken over as head of his Clan after the death of his father, with his brother Sorin by his side they're formidable. While meeting with the money launderer David, Vasile feels something towards the woman serving them, he's not sure what but he makes a spilt second decision to take her with him and so he does. Fawn never thought she'd escape David she thought she'd die there but has she been rescued or just been transferred to another hell and what about David he'll never willingly let her go. I liked so much about this, I liked that Vasile was hot, tattooed and powerful, I liked Sorin, Natasha, Fawn for the most part although the she did have a small stupid moment. Now don't get me wrong, I like a tall dark brooding hero as much as the next girl but this book was missing dialogue. I get that Vasile and Fawn are attracted to each other but for me to believe the relationship is anything other than just sex I needed them to interact a bit more. I know Vasile has a more serious personality than Sorin so I think I might see how Sorin's book turns out.
This was a book about Fawn and Vasile. You get to read about their journey and how Vasile first met. Fawn who was use to some so curl by the hands of David had to learn the kindness of Vasile.
Vasile did not understand his interested Fawn. He could not stand to see David miss treat her. Fawn felt an attraction to Vasile that she had not felt in a long time.
Fawn Michelle may have sold her soul to the devil, David Ashmore, but when Vasili Petran enters the picture she realizes she may have just jumped out of the frying pan into the fire.
Vasili Petran has to deal with all types of scum in doing his duty for his clan but that doesn't mean he has to like it. A forced meeting with Ashmore to discuss business ends in Vasili taking Ashmore's woman for his own. The fall out may start a clan war but for Visili that's just another day at the office. Especially when Vasili begins to feel that Fawn is worth fighting for.

Warning: This is a dark story that includes violence, blood letting, and fictional mob/crime family/drug trafficking lifestyle situations. Those having triggers with such content should proceed with caution. Consider yourself warned.
You have to be a fan of the antihero character to really appreciate this story. No fairy tale romance with gestures of knightly love and affection, mobsters have their own unique way of courting and those females willing to take a walk on the wild side have to be strong enough to accept all aspects of their man's lifestyle. Similar to MC/bikers, mobsters have a charm all their own and I'm thrilled to be a fan if only in the literary sense.....
I enjoyed that the author kept her world building/writing style raw and to the point. It fed into the darkness that needed to come through for this story to work. In the real world, showing emotion of any sort would be a show of weakness so going against that philosophy would have been problematic for me. Personally, I would have appreciated that the author had relaxed that stance when the two main characters had private time but it's easy to be a back seat quarterback so....
For anyone wondering if the darkness equates to blood baths and sadistic scenes of torture. I wish. Mobsters are violent people. That's a given. The author didn't back off featuring that. But. They do have a moral code that is followed: The Mafia's Ten Commandments. This story pretty much kept to those commandments. Violations were more the sorts of darkness readers should expect in this story.
As for the adult content. At the core of this book is a romance. A romance that includes a number of steamy adult content scenes that are to be enjoyed by the reader but don't cross into any lines in terms of extreme or BDSM elements (to be clear, there is no BDSM in this story). So, for those who want to know.. that's my take.
The less prominent but highly emotional and important portions in this book had me in tears. I know. Hard to imagine getting all worked up emotionally when we're talking mobster/crime family scenarios but deep down we're all people and it's at that level that the author pulled the rug out from under me. Sorry. Spoilers aren't my style so I won't/can't say more about this but for those who have read the book you know what I'm talking about....
The author has successfully tapped into the antihero theme providing readers with a different sort of romance that can be enjoyed by male and female fans alike. I can't wait for any/all follow up installments (especially his holiness the Priest) as this will be the closest I ever come to rubbing elbows with mobsters in my lifetime. The author has jumped up in my radar though so off I go to check out some of her other works in the meantime.......
While this book wasn’t bad, I felt like I blinked and missed something. My biggest gripe was, who in the hell was Fawn Michelle (great porn star name by the way). Where in the hell did she come from, who are her family her people. What made her so susceptible to David’s charms. Did she not have family that cared enough? We know that Esther was her childhood friend and that’s it. I mean was she made in a cabbage patch or something by Xavier Roberts!!!!! (shout-out to the 80’s). It made no sense to me at all.
Another thing wrong with this story was the storyline and the weak bond shared by the 2 main protagonists. They never really had any meaningful dialogue between them it was pure lust. I mean after being rescued from such a scumbag you think that she would be leery of jumping into another situation with a dangerous man. Not our girl Fawn, she jumped right into his bed a few nights after he rescued her. Then the lack of protection on their part when they had sex was crazy to me. I mean a woman like Fawn who was living with a sadistic bastard like David would surely have been on birth control. I can’t see David as the type not to have his plaything on some form of birth control. Well as we can see by the birth of Maria obviously NOT. There were definite holes to this book that could have been filled in if the author took the time.
4.25 stars. Why, oh why, are the good books always too short?!?! I guess it's true, if you really love the story, you will never want it to end. I think if it was longer, it would have brought more depth into the story. But that did not stop me one bit from thoroughly enjoying this book.
This is my first read from Ms. Kaye Blue but it certainly will not be my last!!! I loved Keep! The plot starts off when, Vasille took Fawn from that monster who degraded her in every way. He brings her home and breathe life into her, well that just melted my heart for him. And the fact that he was always protecting Fawn made me really fall for Vasille. But the darkness that follows Vasille is what also captivated me into the plot. I did wish the love scenes were a bit longer, but they were still very steamy!
I loved how they had the potential to heal one another. I did sort of wish that they had more interaction between one another to develop their relationship, but then again, I was addicted to any interaction between Vasille and Fawn. They make each other a better person, and I love seeing that in books. I hope we get more of Vasille and Fawn in the next part of the series. I cannot wait!
The alpha male in the story is A Russian crime boss named Vasile. Vasile just took over from his father who died and he needs to show the rest of the patrons that he is someone that can be in charge of his family. So he has to meet with an associate who he really doesn't like but is necessary to their business. And that's where he meets Fawn! And because of the way she is treated by this associate and his attraction to her, he just takes her from him. Which obviously doesn't go over well with this idiot!
Fawn is trapped she is the kept woman of the hated associate. Fawn is basically a slave that is either beaten or verbally abused constantly. So when Vasile takes her from him she doesn't know what she is walking into. If she is just trading one terrible place for another. But all he wanted was to take care of her. The chemistry between them was HOT and who wouldn't want a HOT ALPHA MAN with TATTOOS!!!
Vasile(hero) takes Fawn (heroine) away from the man holding her prisoner David.
That's pretty much all I can tell you. I wasn't following along. I kept staring off into space. I was utterly bored. I was going to try and finish this but there was nothing really keeping me hooked to the story. The characters weren't developed. Apparently they were attracted to each other but I didn't feel it. I really couldn't tell you what this book was suppose to be about.
With the characters already falling in between the sheets by page 79, I wasn't buying the romance. There really wasn't even romance.
Blurb: HER: I thought the only thing I feared was living another day in the hell my life had become.
