Connor and Shaun are directly related to Peter and Alfie, a couple whose clandestine lover affair was overshadowed by old prejudices and a world war. Shaun Jamieson is a writer, a romantic and needs to pen the story of the affair’s final secrets; Connor French’s family wants to stop Shaun.
When the two men step onto the sands of Sapphire Cay, they find more than just the secrets of an old love. They find hope and comfort in each other. But with the past hanging over them, can they ever have what Peter and Alfie could not? Or are they just as ill-fated as their ancestors?

What a stunning finish to a wonderful series! Having the love come full circle to present day "great-greats" is brilliant. Loved catching up with previous couples, it was like saying hello to old friends. Well done RJ and Meredith!
Forever in the Sun have two stories in it. One is the wedding of Dylan and Lucas. The wedding where everything that could go wrong did and hiding what went wrong from the affected people took a lot of stealth. It was short, sweet and lots of good fun and giggling throughout.
The other is how the mystery of the love letters between Peter and Alfie finally gets its day in the sun. The feuding was stupid, but then again, what feud is not? Also, the angst between Connor and Shaun is purely a matter of miscommunication. Connor is trying to be the good son, or in this case, nephew while Shaun is just trying to get the truth out. Why not? What is the shame of two men loving each other when they were still alive? So someone does not get hurt? Again, sweetly done and gives the reader a light feeling of joy. Especially around the parts where the letters and sketches finally tell their all.
Two stories, one that makes you laugh, the other makes us smile with tears in our eyes. Both are sweetly written. Both worth the while to sleep and dream over later.

It took me a few weeks to complete the Sapphire Cay series. Somehow I missed it when it was published 2013-2015, but I’ve made up for lost time and read this wonderful romance by RJ Scott and Meredith Russell. All my wishes for the couples who met on the island were fulfilled and the circle of love and friendship has closed. I will have book hangover for a while but this is the delicious, happy kind of hangover. In the fifth book Dylan and Lucas found a box containing letters written between a gay couple in the 1930s and stopping suddenly in the early 1940s. They have tracked down the descendents of those two men, wanting to find out if and when they died and if they found happiness in their lives. Two gay men, Conner and Shaun are those descendants and initially they are at cross purposes in completing the story of Peter and Alfie, the men from almost a century ago. The story-within-a-story of how they are able to find a conclusion of the love story of Peter and Alfie is so sweet. We have multiple HEAs at the end of this series. It’s hard to tell you that this is not a stand alone book. You really do need to have read the previous books to fully understand the characters, although the plots of each book can sort of stand alone. Do it. Get the entire series and binge read them. Totally worth it.
I really loved this series, and this was a great way to wrap things up, to have the first half for the first couple, and then to close things up with a new couple, brought together by their past relatives. I thought this was sweet, romantic, I loved how all of the other couples were included, and I just really enjoyed reading about these men. This was a great series, I recommend it!
Best book of the series by far, and a wonderful wrap up. Not much of Jamie and Edward (just at the beginning and end), but lovely bits of Dylan and Lucas, Scott and Adam, and a wonderful love story in Connor and Shaun. And a wedding for Dylan and Lucas -- absolutely perfect, to be a bookend with Tasha and Liam's wedding in the first book.
What a great ending to the series! Dylan and Lucas's wedding...seeing some old friends, and solving Peter and Alfie's mystery. While I'm sorry its over, this was such a romantic, fun filled series. Great characters, lots of love and laughter, I will miss them!!
As I write this review, I have tears running down my face. It was such a good ending to the whole story. Peter and Alphie got their forever after. Thank you Rj for all you put in to those stories. I am so sorry it has to end........ B.......
D'awwww, this was a perfect ending to a lovely series that I know I will reread again and again (like I've already have). Peter & Alfie's story was crafted and told so beautifully. LOVED it.
Just read the whole series. Nice sweet and gentle. Each romance happens over a short time period. I like that the series continues to touch base with all the couples and their relationships.
Awww… What a sweet wrap up to a great series. I lost track of this series, I read the first few books but then missed the next few. I just caught up last week so I would be ready for this one. They have all be very enjoyable! One of the things I’ve liked about them is that each book is about a couple, Lucas and Dylan the owners of Sapphire Cay, Edward and Jamie, Adam and Scott, and Mitch and Isaac, plus Mutt the dog. So each book features a couple, but they all take place on Sapphire Cay, and all of the other characters are around. We get an individual love story, but also this wonderful group story as well. Oh, Lucas’s sister Tasha and her husband come and go throughout the books as well.
In this book, we finally get the payoff between Dylan and Lucas as they get married! I liked this story line, we’ve seen them meet and fall in love, then grow as a couple, create a life together, get a dog, and now get married. The wedding was cute and silly, with the usual shenanigans you’d expect from this group.
A couple of books ago Lucas and Dylan found a tin box containing letters and pictures from a gay couple named Alfie and Peter, that appear to have spent some time during WWII on Sapphire Cay. As the books progress, every once in a while a mention is made about finding descendents of the two men, well, finding the dependents of Peter I guess. Until we get to this book, where we do see the resolution of this story in the form of Connor and Shaun. Shaun is the great something of Alfie, and wants to write a book featuring the story of the two star crossed lovers. Connor is the descendent of Peter, and his family isn’t sure about the wisdom of the story getting out. The two men meet, argue, then individually head to Sapphire Cay to retrieve the box of letters. Of course they are both gay and make a connection.
So here’s the thing with this book. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but I wish it had been two books. The two parts to the story didn’t match together very well, and each distracted from the other. I didn’t get a good feel of a romance between Connor and Shaun, their story felt rushed to me. They didn’t like each other, enemies in a way, then suddenly they are friends. There was also no on page sex between them, which I personally feel bonds a couple together. I did like their story and the connection to Alfie and Peter, but I didn’t feel the love between them. Then Lucas and Dylan’s wedding also felt short and rushed to me. We’ve been waiting for this moment for several books, and I wanted it to be more dramatic! There were some silly moments with the cake, and some sweet moments with their vows, and one wedding night sex scene, but it felt like we just blew through it too fast. I hate to be the one to say “I would have done it differently”, since I’m not an author, but….
All of that being said, I did like this book. I liked the wrap up of the story between Alfie and Peter, I liked that we saw the resolution to their story and the connection with the younger generation in the form of Shaun and Conner. And I did love to see the wedding between Lucas and Dylan, even rushed it was very sweet and a great moment. I loved seeing the other characters around, and the continuation of Tasha’s story. I loved Mutt causing problems, a good dog always gets me.
If you have read the other books in the series, you have GOT to read this one to get the much awaited ending. It’s worth it. If you haven’t read the others, you need to before you read this one. If you are looking for a nice sweet series, low angst, based around a good group of men, try these Sapphire Cay books. You won’t be disappointed!

Sweet, If Contrived, Ending to Sweet, If Contrived, Series
Don't think that the headline above is anything other than complimentary. This series winds up where we hoped when it started, with blond Lucas and dark haired Dylan taking center stage for their wedding. Then the long-lost lovers Peter and Alfie take their final bows in the form of two of their descendants, Connor and Shaun. And that's where the fun comes in.
This series brought together two completely opposite men in each book to find themselves, and each other, on a paradise island. Every book was sweet, every book had its angst, every book brought a smile to my face.
This one also brought a tear or two. One question, however, and this is not a spoiler: If Lucas and Dylan are married, why do they still use condoms? Just wondering.
A lovely rounding off of the series. Finishing off the recent past, Dylan and Lucas get their big day and Tash has her baby. Starting a new romance - though they are not very friendly at first - are Shaun and Connor. They are on opposite sides of an argument whether to publish the story of both their great-great relatives who were in love pre WW2. Their attraction gradually wins through and Connor particularly comes to an acceptance of what needs to happen. Whilst we don't get much of Peter and Alfie's story, what we do get makes it poignant though. With Connor and Shaun being descendants of Peter and Alfie, there is a nice symmetry to the ending.
I absolutely LOVED this one. This was the perfect ending to the series. In a previous book, Lucas and Dylan had found some old photos and letters that showed an old relationship torn apart by the war and the inability to be together. It was really heartbreaking, and I felt it in my heart. Connor and Shaun are descendants of the two guys from the past relationship. Shaun is a writer who wants to tell their story, Connor is being forced by his family to keep the story hidden. These two find love in each other and find a way to compromise with regards to the story. I loved how this worked out and loved their relationship. This was 4.5 stars for me.
This was such a perfect ending for the series. I loved Sapphire Cay and discovering the tin with the memories on the island was a great setup for this book. We got the best of everything! The long awaited wedding for Dylan and Luke, old characters coming by to make their presence known and make us laugh, plus a new romance. The romance between Shaun and Connor was tender and sweet and so romantic. It was a great wrap-up for the love story start started on the Cay so many years ago! Amazing!
This book ties together Sapphire Cay's current times with its history, and ties together the love of the two men who are the current owner/management with two men who lived in a much more difficult time for male/male romance and acceptance. 'Tis as enjoyable as the entire series.
This was an interesting conclusion to this series. I liked the mirroring of the historical couple. I do think that sometimes the conflict is resolved really quickly in this series, but the stories are still so much fun
Perfect ending to the series. Shaun & Connor find themselves at odds over Peter & Alfie’s love story. It takes the island magic to bring them together and tell the tale of a love past and their future.
