Over the Hills and Far Away

Rate this book
Kenna MacGregor was raised to believe that music is the language of the soul. That life is a song, pulsing with beats and rhythms, harmonizing the inner spirit with the energy of the universe. In a fated moment, she discovers the one person whose music reaches deep into her being, speaking to her in ways no one else ever could.

He is the dominating, larger-than-life, in-your-face Phil Deveraux. He's the lead singer of her favorite band; her adolescent fantasy.

She is just a face in the crowd. A face that Phil is destined to see, and would never forget.

Lips touch, igniting an inferno-hot passion, melting two souls together in ways neither could foresee. Time stands still for these two, while life relentlessly moves forward for them both.

Kelli Jean

Born and raised in Miami, Kelli Jean traded the tropical heat for the arctic. Now she deals with twenty-four hour daylight in the summer, zero sunlight in the winter, and believes the Northern Lights make up for the mind-boggling amount of ice and snow she has to put up with for seven months out of the year. She’s surrounded by mountains and ocean and sheep, and claims her bizarre sense of humor is what keeps her sane.
The insane don’t know they’re insane.
Kelli uses her imagination to create worlds she can escape to from the mundane tasks of everyday life, such as washing the damn dishes and vacuuming up Legos off the floor—and don’t get her started on the mad amount of cat hair on the end of the couch. She gave up on that a long time ago. When the household goes to sleep at night, she writes down everything that happened in her head while doing such tedious chores. But she enjoys living in her own head, so that’s pretty cool.

It totally baffles me that more people have not read this book or this series!!! Seriously.. if you love rock and roll epic love stories.. you are completely and totally missing out by not reading this series...

This one is LIVE!!!! Such an AMAZING story... don't pass it up... so so good!!! One-click this baby now!!!

http://www.amazon.com/Over-Hills-Away...

This book kicked ass! 5 absolutely AMAZING STARS!!

I will start out by saying that this book owned me. Phil Deveraux owned me. Kenna MacGregor owned me… Wow…. I’ve read my fair share of rocker books… but I can honestly say, without a bit of doubt, that this is my favorite rocker book EVER. No rocker I have EVER read, comes even close to Phil. None. Zero. Zilch. In my book boyfriend world..it is all Phil Deveraux. Not only was the story amazing.. but the characters…the characters just sucked me in. All of them.. .not just Phil and Kenna.. but each of the side characters also. It’s not often that the side characters can bring almost as much to a story as the main characters..but in this case they did.I loved them all.

I’ll start out with Kenna… Kenna grew up in quite an unorthodox way…. Mediation, smoking weed, and expressing yourself in whatever way you wanted to was the norm and expected. She is one of the coolest chics I have ever had the pleasure to read and her two besties, were just as awesome. These women have a relationship that goes far beyond basic friendship. They are like more than sisters. They are soul sisters…. Even though Kenna is surrounded completely by love.. she has not been without pain. She loves her family and friends hard and she feels things deeply.

Kenna

Phil Deveraux…. The singer of Kenna’s all time favorite band Nola’s Junk… she’s followed them from the beginning….She’s loved him from afar.. always feeling like he was singing to her when she heard his voice…. His voice just did amazing things for her.. he commands the stage and leaves women screaming in his wake. His band started off small in New Orleans but eventually finally got their big break. Kenna watched Nola’s Junk go from being Nola’s own to known world wide….

Phil

One epic nigh when Phil and Kenna finally see each other face to face at one of Nola’s Junk’s last shows…. Time almost stands still. The connection, just through their eyes is immediate. There was a feeling there.. something passed between them… One kiss would change both their lives forever. Nothing would ever be the same.. call it fate, call it kismet.. call it whatever you want.. it was like they just knew.. they were meant to be. But Kenna and Phil aren’t perfect and their lives go on in different directions… even thought that connection is still there. Fate is waiting on them and won’t be denied.

I can’t say enough about the chemistry between Kenna and Phil.. just reading this story I could feel how strongly they were pulled towards one another.. it was like this enormas spark that was lit. They both have such strong personalites… Phil is bossy and strong and can take anything Kenna throws at him.. and Kenna is no wallflower. She is total bad ass and she as bad ass friends taking her back through everything. And the sex… through the roof scorching HOT. These two are on fire when they come together. Seriously some of hottest sexy times I’ve read.

Kelli Jean has created more than a story about two people falling in love.. she’s created and EPIC love bound by fate and destiny… and family and friends that make this story so much more. I was completely sucked in… And although this story does end in a bit of a cliffhanger, it is a perfect place for their story to pause and Kellie is not going to make us wait forever for the next installment which makes me one very happy lady.

I will be counting down the days until I get more Phil and Kenna in my hands.. and I know without a doubt I will read this first book again before book 2 comes out. It’s that good. I already want to pick it up and re-read it now!

Don’t let this one pass you up!!!

I won an ARC and am so thrilled I did!!!!

Over the Hills and Far Away spans six years and while that may seem long or daunting, it was the opposite. Kenna first lays eyes on Phil on her eighteenth birthday at a music festival. She is obviously attracted to him, but is mostly drawn to his incredible musical abilities. She loves the way his music makes her feel.

As time goes on Phil and Kenna’s path continually cross, but they never connect. I am not really sure that’s the best way to describe it, because they have this insane connection. But their connection is so much deeper than time spent together, they are drawn to each other. This isn’t what you expect in most books today, mainly because as I am describing this it probably sounds like insta-love and it’s not. The connection that Phil and Kenna have is so deep, like they can feel each other’s souls. I hope I am describing this correctly, but the most important thing is knowing that their connection felt so incredible and real.

As I said the story spans a long time and so much happens. Phil’s band becomes famous and tours around the world. Kenna lives the life of a regular girl. She finishes schools, dates and experiences great losses. I loved that Kenna and Phil had this connection, but they both continued to live their lives and have experiences.

My favorite part was when they did reconnect because there is nothing like Phil. Phil is a little crazy, he is so passionate and that passion spills over in all aspects of his life. That can be a fantastic thing, but it can also lead to fights and issues. Phil being this crazy emotional, passionate, loving guy was awesome and him being imperfect made me love him more.

Kenna is strong, independent and genuine. This is one of those stories where I actually liked both characters, neither bothered me. Kenna isn’t perfect either, but she is also sensible and relatable. I loved the bond she had with her friends and family. She didn't grow up in the typical home, but knew love and how to give love.

Kelli’s writing is so unique and I immediately fell into this world she created. This is the first book in the trilogy and I can’t wait to see what happens next for Phil, Kenna and the rest of the gang.

ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review.

Oh WOW! I'm in a state of shock over this emotionally fueled read. Going into this book I had no idea that I would be completely blown away... that this wouldn't just be another good book, but something MORE . Over the Hills and Far Away is an original story that will grab you from the beginning and make it almost impossible for you to do anything other than read its pages. I devoured this story. I fell in love with all of the characters. I hate to even refer to them as “characters” because they have become so much more to me. Even when I was unable read, I couldn’t get them off my mind.

There are so many layers to this book. One, is an epic love of true soulmates whose souls recognize each other even when their minds aren't wholly sure. This is a love that goes beyond what most people are able to experience with the person they choose. That is because Phil and Kenna's love chose them and that makes all the difference.

The connection between Phil and Kenna is one you aren't able to get away from no matter how hard you try. Timing rarely seems to be on their side, but the fate of their love endures. After all, how could one live joyfully without the other half of their soul?

Phil Deveraux is a mountain of a man who can roar into a microphone and melt you on the spot. He is extremely talented and considered the "Dark God of the Universe" by his beloved Baby Girl.

"His deep, deep voice penetrated straight into my chest and cocooned my heart in a vibrating warmth. I could spend my life blind as long as I got to listen to that voice every day."

He is beautiful and brooding, and with his all, he loves his Baby Girl. Phil fell in love as a boy and has never gotten over a kiss that changed his life.

""My other half," he whispered."

Kenna is a strong, captivating woman who knows who she is and is comfortable in her own skin. She is the type of person that draws others in with her wisdom, forgiveness, and outlook on all things.

Together they are spectacular, a real force to be reckoned with.

"I'm dyin', he panted. "I've died. I must be dead." "Why do you say that?" I asked, a bit winded. "Because -" He swallowed hard. "Because I've surpassed bliss. I've just felt the greatest peace I've ever known, and it's in you."

"I love the feel of your hand over my heart. You've branded yourself on it with that touch," he breathed. Dipping his head down, he kissed me again. He whispered against my lips, "It's your now-forever."

Other layers to this story are the amazing friendships the characters have. I absolutely love Alys and Lili, they are fierce in their loyalty and hilarious when put together. Everyone would want best friends like these two women. The friendships between Phil and his bandmates are awesome, as well. The characters in this story are written so well that they all have such an enormous life about them that it is hard to think of them as merely fictional characters.

I’ve read this book multiple times now and it never gets old; it still keeps me on the edge of my seat. The excitement is just as strong as the first time I picked up the book. No matter how much time has passed since I finished this story and no matter how many books I’ve read since finishing, I cannot get NOLA’s Own off of my mind or out of my heart. I’m in love and totally lost to this gripping story.

Over the Hills and Far Away gives me every single thing I could ask for in a book. It makes me feel excitement, longing, pain, grief, friendship, epic love, jealously, devastation, heart flutters… this story makes me laugh, cry, swoon, gets me hot and bothered in its sexiness, and teaches me real life lessons that I plan to keep with me. This author has a way of telling a story that pulls you in and makes you wish you could live in the world she created. I am shocked that this is Kelli Jean’s first book. She is a very polished author that knows how to paint a picture with her words and entice strong emotion with the stories she tells. You can tell this author is born to do this. Stories like these can’t be forced out of someone, they pour themselves out. I cannot wait for the second and third books of this series to be released. Having read them already, I can tell you that this story only gets more interesting and brilliant as it progresses.

I highly recommend that you read this one, you will never forget these remarkable characters or this legendary love. Kelli Jean has made a huge fan out of me. I cannot wait for more from this inspiring new author who makes me want to be a better person just by reading her words.

"My whole life," he panted. "My whole life, I've searched for you, waited for you, hoped and prayed I'd find you one day."

"Promise me, Baby Girl, no matter what, we always return to this moment," I'd said as we were about to drift off to sleep. "We'll come back to right here and realize that we're meant for this. We never forget this. This is who we are." "I promise," she had replied before pressing a kiss to my cheek."

Over the Hills and Far Away (NOLA's Own Book 1) by Kelli Jean
Link: http://amzn.com/B00T22H3IE

Let me preface this by saying that I beta read this book and I am friends with the author. That being said, please know that everything I am about to write is my HONEST and UNBIASED opinion about this book. I've been helping promote this book for months because I believe in it, I believe in this author and I think they both KICK FUCKING ASS!!!! If I didn't, I wouldn't have. Plain and simple.

Now onto the good stuff...

NOLA's Own: Over the Hills and Far Away is a story about REAL love. It's about true friendship, loss, self-discovery, forgiveness and SO MUCH more. This book is the first of three that follow the heroine, Kenna, and hero, Phil, as they fall in love and overcome all of the obstacles that get in the way of that love. This book is also full of some AWESOME side characters that will keep you laughing and have you wishing you were a part of this group of misfits.

Kenna:

Kenna isn't your typical heroine. She grew up in an unorthodox family where smoking weed and meditating weren't unusual occurrences. Kenna and her friends love music, especially the rock n' roll, hardcore, headbanger kind. They get high, they dress like tomboys and they have very little interest in following trends. This alone was enough to make me fall in love with Kenna. She's a woman after my own heart. It's not until you keep reading that you discover the purity and strength of her heart, a heart that's suffered and spent years on auto-pilot. Kenna experiences some major losses in this story and the only thing that keeps her going is that voice. Which brings me to him

Phil:

 photo 10849826_679944722124351_3328754405211419212_n_zps59bed9fe.jpg

Phil is the lead singer of Nola's Junk. (Kenna's favorite band) He's the huge, sexy, unapologetic frontman with a voice that can bring women to their knees. But he doesn't want just any woman. He wants his Baby Girl... the one who got away... the woman who stole his heart with one simple kiss.

This isn't a story about insta-love. It's a story about destiny. It's about a man and woman destined for each other and a love that withstands the test of time. None of these characters are perfect. They're real. They fuck up. They have insecurities. They have pasts that, no matter how painful or challenging, have made them who they are. This is a beautiful story about two people so deep in love they couldn't escape it even if they tried.

Kelli Jean is an extraordinary writer with an ability to create a world and characters that feel real. She has you crying, laughing, blushing and falling in love with her effortless writing style and unique perspective and voice. I can guarantee you've never read a book like this one before. And let me tell you (since I've read all three books about Kenna and Phil) they only get better. This is a series you DO NOT want to miss.

What about the sex? you ask??
OFF THE CHARTS HOT!!! Phil and Kenna will have you wishing they were swingers and invited you along. Just sayin'
Phil with his tattoos, long hair, badass attitude and dickies... DAMN, he's so hot!

So, just to reiterate... I HIGHLY recommend this book. It's fuckn' awesome.

IT'S LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00T22H3IE/r...

Where to start... have you ever been really excited about an ARC and then thought about it and thought- shite maybe I should've passed.

Anyone who knows me knows that I seldom read M/F. There's something about het books that don't really do it for me anymore so I kind of got myself in a bit of funk mode when I started this book. But you know what- in the end I was all so glad I read it. Once I started it, I became engrossed and stayed up until I finished it.

What I loved:
*The story. It was different, original, and not your cookie cutter rock star romance novel.
*I am so impressed with the way she developed the characters. I mean these characters really came to life. Each character had a strong voice and I felt as if I was there with them.
*Story flowed very nicely. For a long book- I didn't feel it. I was scared that I would. It's got great pace.
*You can tell that she paid attention to detail. There was nothing half a**ed about this book.
*It's got sexy times.

*Love the music referances
*It is both heartbreaking and uplifting.

What I didn't like:
*It felt a bit insta-lovish. I think many will disagree with me- it's all on your individual take on things and to be honest I may even change my mind about this after the next book. Something's going on but I can't put my finger on it. You'll know what I'm talking about after you read it. Sorry I can't say more.

You'll have to read for yourself and find out :D
*Some of the reactions in fights were maybe a bit much- although they make sense- are not my cuppa. That's all me though cause it fits the characters.

Overall- this was pretty freaking good. It's an amazing debut. I am really happy I read it and can't recommend it enough. 4.5 Stars ♥

Rocker romances are hardly something new but every so often one pops up that grabs you by the lady bits and doesn't let go. This story pulses with electrifying and emotional vibrations.

Immaculately written with style and visceral attention to detail, it’s a head-bangingly guilty pleasure and a romance to treasure, both for its endearing characters and memorable journey to love. It is powerful and unabashedly sensual, and finds the perfect balance between exciting and captivating, with NOLA’s rockers as an eye-candy setting.

The book is aglow with a heady illustration of music culture and a riveting cast of characters. Phil is the darkly handsome heartbreak musician. Kenna is radiant as the eternal and unselfishly-supportive fangirl looking for love in exactly the right place. It begins with a kiss and ends with an unforgettable climax, one that will leave you gasping and wanting more.

It is rare to find a story so tonally successful at engaging your emotions at a depth that makes you share its characters’ sorrow and happiness through the nuances of their decisions. You will leave this book feeling good about what happens to them and longing to experience the epic kind of love that sets these pages on fire.

WOW...what a story! Phil and Kenna have such an intense connection that I couldn't read this book fast enough and finished in one day. I just couldn't put it down.

Phil is a lead singer in a rock metal band called NOLA's Junk and Kenna is their biggest fan. They finally see each other, talk for a bit and even kiss before Phil gets pulled away telling Kenna to not go anywhere. Unfortunately, the bouncer didn't get that message and kicks Kenna and her friends out. Phil is devastated especially since he didn't get anything other than her first name.

Time goes by and they see each other at another one of the band's concerts but this time, Kenna "tells" him to wait, that now is not the time since the band is just going on their first world tour. Phil doesn't really understand, he just wants to be with her, his Baby Girl, but he does what she says. Things aren't easy on Kenna either and it's over four years before they see each other again.

I've been wanting to read this story forever especially knowing a few of my GR's friends have really enjoyed it. The best way I can explain this book is that it makes me think of a grown up version of Kellan and Kiera but without Denny. Yep, you read that right! Phil and Kenna's love is so strong and sooo intense that when they finally do get together....it's FIREWORKS, for sure!

description

These two are so off the charts steamy I just don't know that I have the words but it's mainly due to their 'connection' with each other. And that connection is a good thing and a bad thing.

The good is obviously the steaminess but the bad is that it's infused in a whole lot of new age mumbo jumbo and that is not everyone's cup of tea. It basically boils down to them being soul mates and that's all good. It definitely helped getting chapters here and there from Phil's POV and I loved learning about all the connections in the past.

There's a lot of angst and drama, after all, it's a long time coming. But we get to know Kenna's family and best friends. Unfortunately, there's a lot of heart ache there and I'll even admit to a few tears!

I did have to keep reminding myself that there are three books in this series because I kept waiting for some crazy stuff to happen. And unfortunately, it does end on a bit of a cliffhanger. Luckily, the second book, No Quarter, is already out!

If you enjoy intense, romantic, love stories then I would definitely recommend this. Just keep an open mind. And it's currently free on Amazon (10/8/15):

Ok, so I start with stating that this not a standalone! So major cliffy is in the house should you choose to proceed!

With that out of the way I can get to the heart of it all. This is one of those reads that will be out of the park phenomenal for some and yet others may not even finish. Why you ask? Well this is quite an enigma. It is insta-lust, and “soul-connecting” love at first touch yet it is also over 5 years in the making to that first real meet. This is a cleverly written tale of cosmic love set in the heart of NOLA while rock god history is established, that same dark mystique of mind and soul develops a love connection for the ages.

 photo PhotoGrid_1423434974781_zpsbnnk6rgc.jpg

In this original romance you get a fresh free spirited Kenna MacGregor. Growing up in a “hippie” style family of free love and expression she is full of light. She and her three BFF’s, sisters of the soul, share life and a love for music. In this music is the heart of Kenna. She has been infatuated with Nola’s Junk front man Phil Devereaux her whole life. Her 18th bday brings her greatest joy to life as she not only experiences him in concert front and center, she experiences his intense gaze for her only. A brief meeting…a night of laughs and fun…a simple soul stealing kiss…a heart lost forever.

 photo PhotoGrid_1423435017591_zpsy5yfp3sr.jpg

But timing is everything. An 18 yr old just starting her life and a Rock God about to embark on the journey to his dreams. They say when it is written in the stars nothing can stop the force of life and love. So we wait…as do Kenna and Phil

 photo PhotoGrid_1423434009481_zps6ioa3agb.jpg

Whether you believe in a supreme being or multiple, there is something to be said in knowing that there are some things out of your control. For Phil and Kenna their lives together are inevitable. But how do you even get to that point after 5 long years of nothing…just song lyrics of longing…failed relationships of “not enough.” Finally…it’s time to come home to “Louisiana Baby”!

 photo PhotoGrid_1423435075616_zpsxlqqwt3z.jpg

Love story of epic proportions or unbelievable tale of instant love? To each reader their own, but for me I found the whole thing pretty damn epic! Phil Devereaux is the epitome of bad boy/rock god. He is sex on a stick and he has taken what he needed to survive, yet at the heart of him is a man desperate for his soulmate. His need for a woman he barley knows is palpable. He is consumed with her entire being and you cannot help but feel the insanity.

 photo PhotoGrid_1423435318830_zpsgyjddevz.jpg

As for Kenna…she is like every other doubting Thomas! She feels so deeply it makes no sense. She finds a constant struggle with need/want and reality. While it is so easy to for her to get lost in Phil, perhaps a lifelong crush is not really a good basis for a future…

 photo PhotoGrid_1423435282130_zpss9xh8yqj.jpg

I would recommend this 1000 times over. I completely got caught up in the insanity and beauty of it all. Perhaps it was the good Nola Weed hazing over my thoughts, but I too got lost in the cosmic groove and the passion Kelli Jean established!

How I feel about this book is indescribable. It’s been a while since a book has pulled me in so deep that it drowns me completely. But the crazy part is that I let it. I let it because I don’t want to ever let go. This story was a true gem. So original and beautifully written that I was left breathless at times. There were moments I had to stop and scream “Oh My God” and just pace back and forth in my room. You would never think this was Kelli Jean’s first book! The woman is fucking brilliant!

I not only did I love the relationship between Kenna and Phil, but I also loved and cherished her relationship with her mother, grandma, her friends, and the rest of her family. Kenna is this cool chick who loves doing yoga, meditating, smoking weed, and eating organic foods. She also worships heavy metal, especially NOLA’s Junk.

Now, to try to describe Phil to you is a challenge in itself. He’s a beast of a man who wears buns proudly, rocks some badass tats, and has the sexiest voice you have ever heard. You know the one, right? The one that could melt your panties right off. Oh and he’s a Neanderthal. Yup! That's right, he’s one big, bad-ass alpha who will have you crawling on your knees with just one look.

The connection between these two characters is truly spell binding. The pull they have towards one another is palpable, like a beating heart. These two could seriously set the world ablaze leaving a trail of fire behind.

Kelli Jean has created this epic story, bringing so many elements into the mix. Even though it ends in a bit of a cliffhanger, you’re left wanting more and it's absolutely perfect!

At this point I’m counting the days til book 2 and I'll gladly re-read book 1 over and over and OVER AGAIN until I've mesmerized it word for word. I recommend everyone stop what they're doing and buy this amazing book...RIGHT NOW! Never has a Rocker book literally rocked me to the core!

DNF

We were so excited to read this story as it had come highly recommended. Sadly though this one just didn't work for us. One of us had to DNF at 20% the other at 60%. We were intrigued and excited as it started really well; unique and original and the writing felt fresh.

Then every pet peeve on the spectrum surfaced and the story started to go round in circles. It was very much insta love and if the heroine wasn't 'creaming her pants' every five minutes she was walking around sore from the gigantic cock her fingers couldn't close around. As for the hero; well he was what we LOVE; a rock God so it was odd that he could be quite such a petulant child. It just didn't fit.

Now, we will say this Author clearly writes very well despite our issues with this story as well as the crassness of certain scenes. We love gritty and raw stories as well as dark and dirty. However, this one felt so awkward and really quite dragged.

Now, would we pick up another book by this Author? Absolutely! However we will not be continuing with this series sadly.

ARC very kindly provided by Author and we're gutted that we couldn't love it!

i really liked this one. it's a bit unlike any other rockstar book i have read. kenna and phil were two quite unique characters and their love story is a roller coaster of emotional ups and downs.

straight up though, this won't be for everyone. it's a book if you give a chance to immerse yourself into, you'll probably be happy you did but it's also a book some just won't like and that's okay too.

i saw kenna as a very different type of heroine than you ususally see. she was raised in a very untraditional family enviroment. she's a hippie girl at heart and very much so in the way she lives her life. she's strong, smart, funny and has killer taste in music.

there is a lot of yoga, third eye, goddess type talk (not usually my thing but i did get used to that part.) plus, our characters do light up a joint or 3 quite often too, so if pot isn't something you can handle reading about, then this one is probably not for you.

phil, crazy phil. he's the singer of 'nola's junk' the metal band that plays the show where kenna and her two kickass bffs are attending to start the book off. kenna has swooned for phil from the crowd for awhile and when they finally meet? SPARKS. EXPLOSIONS. no but seriously, some may see it as a bad case of insta-love and it kinda is, i am not a fan of insta-love myself, at all.. but i kept reminding myself that kenna and phil are not your average peeps. they both believe in soul mates and hippie do-dah lovin' etc. just go with it, okay? the pay off is pretty damn addictive.

this is a great debut novel, set over a few years with fully fleshed out main characters who never come across one dementional. they have flaws too, which i liked to see because nobodys perfect. there's also some truly amazing side characters/friends with some GREAT MUSIC throughout.

it's well written, funny and can be quite emotional at times.

this is part 1 of a 3 part series (it does end on a mild cliffy, grr!) but part 2 is released in june and i am looking forward to it.

WOW, what a ride! Where do I even start?

Kelli Jean takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride full of music, lust, loss, dreams, and doobies (yes, that's right...doobies!) I absolutely loved this story!!!

The constant theme throughout this whole story is music, and the author's love of music flows heavily through her characters. Music is more than just sound, it penetrates our soul. It excites us, calms us, gives us inspiration, and it navigates us.
"I was raised to believe that music is the language of the soul. It's always been a part of my life."

"Music is its own sort of magic. Unlike anything else, it fuels our brains on a spiritual level. It makes us dance, and it inspires us to fall in love, have sex, and loose our inhibitions.
~Kenna

Every damn character in this book is strong and memorable. I loved Kenna. She's witty, smart, beautiful, and has this worldly sense about her. Alys & Lilli were kick ass friends, too. Then of course there is Phil and the members of NOLA's Junk. Phil has a very intimidating stage presence but was a complete softy when it came to Kenna. He wears his heart on his sleeve and there is nothing sexier than a man in touch with his feelings. Ugh, and his voice too, I can almost hear his deep, raspy, growl when he sings...*warm heart, damp panties*!

Another thing I loved about this story is that it's not an immediate HEA. There are issues to be worked out and it's realistic. Although there's no denying the fierce attraction between Kenna & Phil. It was vivid and tangible. They are true soul mates and I envy the magnetic pull they each possess towards each other.
"My world blew up into full Technicolor. The colors I'd thought only existed in my lovesick head were out in full bloom, and I could just weep with the beauty of it, of him standing right before me." ~Kenna

Lastly, the only reason for my less than perfect rating is just for the length. I'm not cut out for long stories, I very easily lose interest (that's just me, other's may love it). There were just a few parts where I (shamefully) admit, I skimmed over. But the author always brought me right back, even up until the very end. The book leaves on a slight cliffhanger, so I'm anxious for book two (which won't be out until June). I'm not a patient person, so I may just have to pressure the author a little ;)

I was really looking forward to reading this but i couldn't get past a few things to continue reading without throwing my iPad at a wall. I can't stand insta love and i didn't like the heroine.

I did a search on my Kindle app and the nickname Baby Girl was used 186 times i don't mind the use of nicknames as long as its not over used and makes me want to break something.

*****5 Stars***** for the first 50% of the book.

I loved it. It was so far from my reality, the description so beautiful and well written. On top of it the fact that the story was about a cosmic, transcendent and magic love *sigh* really grabbed me. Who doesn't like to dream? I've got so excited that I even convinced a friend to budread it :(

However, the years passed and I felt that the characters didn't grow up . Their attitude was so childish sometimes! I had no patience for them.

**2 Stars** from the second half.

This story will blow your reading experience OUT OF THE WATER !!!!!!!!
I loved it from the start and once you start you wont be able to put it down.
Kenna lives with her mom and nan, with her best friends Alys and Lili always at her side and complete metal heads they all follow the same love for the band NOLAS junk.
On Kenna 18th birthday she is taken to a NOLAS junk concert where she lands in front row in front of the gorgeous Phillip Deveraux, when she catches his eye they share a very strong emotional bond. When the concert draws to a close she enjoys a few drinks with Alys and Lili around the bar until she sees Phillip is watching her closely across the bar,the night draws on and Phillip approaches Kenna and they share some very intimate moments.
There night comes to an abrupt end and she longs to see him again. With everyday life Kenna returns to her studies of becoming a doctor after seeing her mmom suffer from an incureable disease with college under her belt. Kenna mom has told her that Phillip will return for his Baby girl but she needs to be strong and wait.
With the chance at happiness after waiting 6 long years for Phillip she finally settles on a relationship with Bryan but her friends show her songs written by NOLAS junk expressing Phillip is still thinking of her and at the end of the tour Phillip announces he his going home for his Baby girl.
With no choice but to end things with Bryan Kenna knows she needs to see him to see if it is her he wants to be with but with no way of knowing where they are she carries on in her daily life.
The story is so gripping that emotions run high and Kenna needs to step away to let her head clear and sort her life out but Phillip will not let her go.

The story has your emotions in turmoil i have cried/laughed/screamed and even got angry whilst going futher into the story.
I had a love hate relationship with Phillip and the ending will have your saying " NO"

A full 5* read and one of the BEST reads so far this year

Holly freakin hell!! what an amazing freaking book this was. I love it, hated it, love it, hated it but in the end loved it so much. The intensity of the love that Phil feels and has for Kenna is unbelievable and you can feel it when reading this book. Six fucking years these 2 people go through waiting for each other or holding off until they finally have the chance of a beautiful and deeply emotional love and I love every moment they shared. Kenna just pissed me off in the end because who the hell cares what those stupid girls felt all those times; Phil never asked her what Brian felt when he was with her so her insecurities got on my nerves even though she seemed like a strong and independent woman but those insecurities and doubts just pissed me off and then with that major cliffhanger in the end UURRGGHHHH!!! And then when he shows her how different he was with those woman than how he is with her - that bitch runs!!! what the freakin hell!!! This is what she was asking for. Anyways Phil was a beautiful and sexy man with a huge heart for this woman and Kenna should have been happy and high in love. I need the next book like now. More than 5 fuckin stars this book was amazing!!!

This book was unique and beautifully done...I'm still having a difficult time believing this is Kelli's debut novel...it's extremely well written and thought out ...it flows well..the characters are well rounded and NOT the least bit flat...She goes DEEP....She took something that..written by another could've went horribly wrong and made it SO SO SO right!

It sucked me right into the story and took me on a wonderful journey of growth and discovery...I could feel the pull of Kenna & Phil..the chemistry..the "connection"...I fell in love with them and the other characters as well and was sad when it was over...I'm so looking forward to reading the next book...DO ME A FAVOR and give this book a chance ...HIGHLY recommend it!

This has been a really good read. I loved it!
So you might ask... why not 5 stars? Because given the length of the novel and story line I did not see the huge cliffhanger coming my way. I was taken completely by surprise.
Personally I don't think a second installment for this novel's h and H were necessary. I was ready for the HEA at about 70%, kept reading patiently and then Bam!!... it ends with a cliffhanger. Not cool. At all.

To be fair, I don't want readers to make snap judgments about this book. I am not quite sure how I feel about it yet. And that's actually a good thing. This book is making me think, it is making me think about the characters and the circumstances in which this book left off and a lot of other stuff I normally don't when I finish a book. The sequel is should be out in June 2015 and damn if I am already impatiently awaiting it arrival. (it is a continuation of Kenna and Phil's story not a series)

I read some reviews about this book after I read it. I am not surprised that some people LOVED it and some people didn't even finish reading it. I think that to understand the main character Kenna, you might need to know or have been around people like her. She is quite the free spirit and incredibly open to "different" people and ways of thinking. She loves metal music, she is all about organic food and yoga, she smokes a lot of pot and is an alternative medicine doctor. Let me just say, I am a native of northern Colorado and these people are everywhere so I totally get it. Kenna also comes from a hippy commune and grew up with plural parents. (yup you read that right) She has some mystical woo-hoo in her that includes soulmates and speaking with her dead mother/grandmother. This didn't bother me or take away from the feeling of the book in my opinion. I think that the author was really trying to make sure we got the spiritual-ness of their relationship and drill it into our head that Kenna/Phil are soul mates.
Fated to be.

This book is LONG, like really-really long. It covers Kenna's life over six years before it really gets into the relationship with Phil. Some of it feels like filler and I was really surprised that Kenna moves on from her relationship with Bryan so quickly and without much remorse. For someone who is so understanding and feels things so deeply, it just didn't fit into her character to do that. I enjoyed all of the secondary characters and the relationship she has with her best friends. I liked how real the relationships felt.

Phil is Kenna's soul mate and love interest in this book. He is the lead singer in a hardcore metal band NOLAS Junk. He was raised by his dad and alcoholic mother who died when he was young, but after that his life seems like it was pretty great and I am trying to understand where all of his demons come from. He seems to have a shit ton of them and for some reason they "all wear Kenna's face". He is beginning to take his issues out on her. (like it is her fault that he is a manwhore rockstar for the past six years boo-hoo) I am having a hard time understanding how Kenna can be so freaking forgiving and loving and self sacrificing for Phil when she has her issues too. I actually LIKE that they both have issues within themselves because that feels real. No one is perfect and every real relationship has to work through things on one level or another. But dude, your rockstar lifestyle and your life choices are not the fault of a girl you didn't even know at the time.

This isn't one of those novels where the characters fall in love and everything is perfect and rainbows shoot out of their ass. But I feel like I have emotional whiplash. Like holy shit Phil get it together man. You have demons and Kenna has issues but she isn't using you as her verbal/sexual demon fixing doll. *SPOILERS* The end of the book Kenna leaves Phil (yet again) after he freaks out on her and sexually treats her like garbage. Yes she had a safe word and no she didn't use it. I'm not sure either of them were in the frame of mind to use it. She was letting him use her but then she gets upset and leaves. Phil is in the bathroom being disgusted with himself over his actions with Kenna. I think the author is trying to make us feel bad for Phil at this point, but by this time in the book I am just like dude really? He basically acts like toddler who doesn't get his way 90%of this book. Kenna is trying to ask him a question, he takes it wrong and then treats her like shit. I am glad that is seems like she is beginning to get a freaking backbone. I am starting to root for her grandmother who tells her in a meditative state that she still has free will and can make her own decisions- soulmate or not. That Kenna is a force to be reckoned with.

I liked this book, I really did. This is the first book for this author and I hope if she reads this, she takes it with a grain of salt. I like the writing, the characters, the scenery and the banter. I enjoyed how refreshingly different this book is. Like seriously different. The SEX IS SERIOUSLY HOT and well written. And OMG the sexual tension. Let me just say they develop a safe word.(fanning myself)

I hope that with the sequel we see Kenna really become this force to be reckoned with and Phil grow out of his man-child stage and OWN HIS FUCKING actions. I hope we see them grow individually and together. Because in the real world no one is that understanding and forgiving (kenna) and if the emotional whiplash doesn't get better I will need a serious adult beverage and plates to throw against the wall.

Led Zeppelin is Alys, Liliana's and Kenna's favorite band. Tonight they are heading to a club to see NOLA's Junk, for Kenna's 18th birthday. Kenna has a major crush on Phil Deveraux the lead singer of NOLA's Junk. Kenna's mom is really sick her heart is getting weaker everyday. During the show Phil starred at her throughout the whole concert. NOLA got a big record deal, after the concert Phil was at the bar watching Kenna he finally went over to Kenna and her friends, Xavier and Phil take them back to a place where they can smoke a joint. Phil asked her friends and Kenna not to leave, but they were forced to leave. So Phil couldn't find her he looked everywhere. Kenna's mom tells her that she is glad that she and Philip found each other and that he would help her heal in time. Does Phil find Kenna?
Kenna is the youngest of her friends she is just turning 18. She is 6 foot tall she gets her height from her Scotsman father, she is going to go to college for her doctorate in Theroptic Medicine. Sigmund is Kenna's dad, he is a truck driver. Liliana is Columbian, her father is very strict, she isn't sure what she is going to school for and she moved in with Kenna and her grandmother. Alys is getting her diploma in accounting.Jimi Reynolds is Kenna, Alys and Liliana's dealer. Phil is NOLA's Junk lead singer, Dark God of the Universe. Xavier is gatarist of NOLA's Junk and Phil's friend. Felix is the Drummer of NOLA's Junk.
This book is well written and very hard to put down. I loved that the characters were very well developed and the story line was amazing. Kelli is an amazing author and I highly recommend this book. I highly recommend this book. I can't wait to read the second book in this series.

Wow, it's kinda hard for me to write a review for this book. I loved the story, seriously loved it, but at times, I felt like it could've been edited down some. I don't know where exactly, I'm not an editor, but it was sooooo long, and at times certain parts made me think had they been cut down more I would've liked the book more. I see though that it's getting amazing reviews, and I'm super happy about that. It seems I'm totally in the minority here, so maybe my review shouldn't influence too much, seeing as I am 7 1/2 months preg, extremely tired and grumpy (101% more than I ever was with my first). And before you go all killer on me, I said I did love the story and characters totally, just took me forever to read this.

Now about that cliffhanger......?!?!?
