Leaving Nick and Elizabeth behind at the end of Reborn, genetically-altered Chloe has only one thing on her revenge. She's determined to take the Branch down, starting with the organization's merciless leader Tom Riley.
Tracking Riley to Washington, D.C., Chloe seems to be closing in on her goal with each passing hour. But just because the Branch made her virtually indestructible doesn't mean she's immune to her emotions. And when a shadow from her past appears in the unlikeliest of places, Chloe is forced to reexamine her allegiances once and for all.
Another sexy and suspenseful novella in the Altered saga by Jennifer Rush.

Chloe was in Reborn for all of five seconds but she gets her novella and Cas has been in the series from the beginning and still nothing for him. No fair!

So Chloe can't be killed due to Angel serum and she gets a new tattoo and gets to a new town where she might get a lead for Riley. She meets this hot guy and hooks up and doesn't even think for a second that she should be careful and all. Some trained whatever she is.

Anyway so far in three books they couldn't get Riley but here with an insider informant they find him and the insider informant turns out to be Chloe's brother who she thought had died but finds out that he's been alive and also has all his memories even though he tries to kill her. In the end, he offers a proposition for Chloe to join him to keep running the Branch under a new name and she says yes and doesn't even question that why he didn't try to find her all these years if he was alive and had all his memories intact. And the ending means, there's going to be another book?

I didn't like this.

This is probably my favorite and least favorite of the novellas. It's a very intriguing and promising story, so I love that. But it ends with the feeling of there being more, and now I want more...like now! I am wondering if the author has planned further novellas, sequels or a spin off of some sort because I just feel like there is more places to go with the ending of this novella.

If you were a fan, or just want to know more about the character Chloe from Reborn, this is the novella for you. But even if you didn't like her much, if you love the series, you'll probably want to read this as it will answer some of the questions that you might have had at the end of Reborn.

I mean, Chloe didn't have much to do with the main story anyways so i don't entirely get the point here? In no way did i ever think she was important. I would have rather read something about Cas. Still love the writing style. Can never argue that.

"Played" a short novella in the "Altered" saga begins when Chloe Tacktor who's tracking the heartless and sinister new leader of the Branch Tom Riley, encounters a blonde, good-looking waiter and asks him up to her hotel room for a one-night stand. Without knowing his name and wanting to reconnect with him the next day, she discovers he's not a waiter but an agent of the opposition group to the Branch (the Turncoats) who's also hunting for Riley. With her help the Rook and his team infiltrate the Branch hideout only to have Chloe confront a ghost from her past and to feel the glacial wall around her feelings disintegrate. Hating the thought of being alone for eternity and yearning for a family connection Chloe 's allegiances are about to change.

Jennifer Rush sets the stage in a hunt for the leader of the Branch the secret organization that resurrected a dead girl, moulding her into an invincible warrior who heals quickly and is immune to death. Hating the Branch she's determined to kill Tom Riley, its new leader and destroy the organization. In a twist of fate she discovers new information about her parents car accident that swept her brother 's body away in the river's current after releasing her seat belt.

In a fast-paced, action-packed short story Chloe confronts memories of the past and her feelings, only to make a decision about her allegiance that could irrevocably change her life. The intensity and suspense quickly heats up after Chloe meets the Rook and accepts a role in the Turncoat's plan to capture the elusive Tom Riley and his new second-in-command.

An invincible Chloe is fearless and self-reliant, holding on to memories of her family and hating the thought of living alone. Rook is her tall, good-looking , tough lover determined to capture the cold-blooded leader of the Branch. Both characters like the plot are fascinating, and add sexual flare, passion and power to this riveting novella.

I enjoyed "Played" with a story twist that has Chloe and Rook both being duped. I can't wait to read the next novel in a thrilling saga that continues to keep the reader on the edge of their seat.

Chloe is badass and finally that cockroach was captured, but I wish they'd actually killed him. The ending was a little.....abrupt and random... and now the Branch is gonna live on...like okay what a waste.

Damn! Played is definitvely the right title for this one -- although I'm not quite sure yet who played whom. Only another full-length installment could reveal the truth, since I know that Jennifer Rush loves making things appear different than they actually are. Gives me hope that there will still be more of this series!

I wouldn't have expected a story from Chloe's PoV, but it was nice. I really liked her in Reborn, she reminded me of Katniss from The Hunger Games, and her abilities and character flaws depending on her alterations intrigued me. I'm glad she got to meet up with Rook and his rebel group. That was a nice twist already, but the second one -- the one I can't possibly spoiler -- was even better. I gasped, it was so totally Rush's style, and I love it. Just... I need more. Give me more!

Area Scan: Idea: 5/5 -- Style/Vocab: 5/5 -- Plot: 5/5 -- Heroine: 5/5 -- Hero: 5/5 -- Hearts: 5/5 -- Tears: 5/5 -- Heat: 4/5 -- Thrills: 5/5 -- Laughs: 4/5

In this final (I wish it wasn't) installment in the Altered series, Chloe is intent on taking down the remaining members of the Branch. Even though the novella is short, the story is packed with information and moves quickly - it feels longer than it actually is. Chloe meets with the Turncoats and they embark on a mission to eliminate Riley for good. The novel ends with enough strands left that there could be another Altered novel and this reader would welcome one.

That was sort of unexpected. When I think about the Branch, I think innovative and scientific stuff with hints of malice and darkness. Imagine my surprise that Chloe and Lukas are gonna try to rebuild it. Even with a new name and management and all that, I hate to associate the Branch with something that's right but that's gone and going wrong.

Only novella that I haven't loved from this series. I wish it would have incorporated more from the previous books. Even Reborn was a bit far from the first two books and novellas, but it included many of the previous characters so it felt like the same series. This novella felt very detached from the other books and made it much less satisfying to read.

First series that I have actually read the novellas of and loved reading it. These books keep you guessing till the end. Loved this one just as much as I would have loved a 300-page book from this series. Hope there is more to come!!!

Así que... que es lo que viene después??? Riley esta cerca a disposición de Chloe pero la aparición de Lukas pone todo en el inicio. En serio? Ya no me gusta el rumbo de la historia, mucho menos que aún no tenga final.

Interesting

I enjoyed learning about Chole. I am sad to say I didn't really enjoy the ending. I want to know more. Come on Rush, write some more about Chole and the new branch. I'd love to hear about Anna and sam's crew fighting evil again. Please keep the story going.

2da lectura
Nota para mi futura yo:
Según reseñas leídas este libro solo trata de Chloe en busca de Riley, no recuerdo como termina pero es un relato que no resuelve ningún misterio y solo deja con mas dudas.

Short and sweet...or is it?

I didn't necessarily see that coming but I am not surprised. Hmm, I guess there really will be more the series.
