I write steamy paranormal romance, particularly vampire and shifter/werewolf right now. Check out my two free series starters, Life Blood and Taken. :)

I most often compare my work to Twilight meets 50 Shades (my vampires in Cora's Choice are more dark and angsty, and the S/M elements grow more and more pronounced as the series progresses), but the names that readers most often mention are Anne Rice and Sherrilyn Kenyon.

In Cora's Choice, Cora's Bond, and the following series, I wanted to show a heroine's journey from ordinary girl to someone super tough. This is a journey of months--years, even. So many stories start with an Anita Blake-type, able to kick ass and take names from the first we meet her. I thought it would be awesome and really interesting to show someone becoming that person through tiny changes that build on each other.

My world puts a different twist on everything from vampires (they're alive) to elves (aliens) and demons (interdimensional djinn). The Alpha's Captive series features a kickass heroine out of the gate, while Cora's Choice series--followed my Cora's Bond and others--has my "big" character story line.

Yes, there's an HEA. :) But the story keeps going on!

Cora Shaw doesn’t have long left to live so when she meets a man who has strange, impossible powers over her that offers her a chance at life how can she refuse in this fascinating paranormal romance.

With a steady to fast paced and smooth flowing plot, this romance captivates readers with lots of suspense and romance. The reader can’t help but get caught up in the story as Cora is faced with a choice that could be her salvation – it is certainly the choice between the red pill or the blue pill. Of course, the situation is way more complicated than she realizes as the mysterious Mr. Thorne has secrets that means that the life he saves might not be the one that she would have taken. The characters are strong and compelling and grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning and their attraction to each other is certainly electric but just because he can compel her doesn’t mean she really wants it.

The well written scenes and details capture the imagination and bring this bewitching story to life and the well orchestrated suspense and emotional aspect of the plot draw the reader deeper into the story and ensure they come back for more. The excitement builds as the reader wonders what Cora’s decision will be and just what Mr. Throne has in store for her and especially as she comes to realize just who she’s become involved with.

The fascinating story grips the readers with an intensity that leaves them questioning their own beliefs in what they would do in her situation - right or wrong, life or death, love or lust and real or imagined are all the choices that Cora is faced with. The first three installments only get better and more exciting as they continue and of course as this is a serial there is a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to read the next one.

The writing was not bad. My issues with this book were that I did not connect with the hero and heroine.
I felt that the Cora was never Dorian's number one choice. The author should have had more meetings between Dorian and Cora before anything happened between them. I guess I can look at it that the author was trying to cause tension and drama by having the reader guess whether Dorian really cared for Cora because he really wanted HER or because she gave him something others were not able to.

Cora is a 22 year old with terminal cancer. She has less than 5 months to love. Her doctor gives her Dorian's number and tells her that he can help. I loved the premise and love these type of paranormal reads, but I was unable to connect before a lot of other things happened so the story lost me. Not sure I will read the next set of books.

The Boxset is definitely the way to go if your planning on reading this series, because you dont have to stop to switch books, you can just go into the story:)

Overall, I think its a cute story about a girl who makes a deal with a devil that actually works in her benefit. Cora's an interesting character in the way that she's a fighter and won't stop at anything to survive her battle with sickness.

So here's the break down of what your getting:

Book one is Life Blood, which follows Cora's introduction to Mr.Thorne and the cure he providers her with, which is a monthly treatment plan. Cora spends a good portion of the book trying to figure out what Mr. Thorne is and what the cure he's giving her is.

Book two is Blood Born, this is where things start to get interesting. Cora finds out she kinda screwed up and is now stuck with the same man for the rest of her life. However, it's not all bad since she starts to fall for him.

Book three is Bad Blood. In Bad Blood, Cora and Dorians relationship is explored further and slowly starts to develop more as they spend time together.

I received this bundle from the author in exchange for an honest review.

What would you do if you found out your life was going to end and there was nothing the doctors could do but make your last days comfortable? Cora is young, in her early 20's, in college and just starting her life when she finds out she is terminal. She is devastated, frightened and not willing or ready to leave this existence. Dorian is mysterious, powerful and offers her a chance to keep her life but the odds are only 1:100 that she will survive and be cured. Do you take the chance and bet on a miracle? This book bundle introduces you to Cora and Dorian. Both have demons to face and neither one of them is ready for the other. Cora has to come to terms with the repercussions of her decision to take Dorian's offer. Her decision has introduced her to world she did not know existed and danger seems to be stalking her. Dorian has to figure out how to ease Cora into his world, keep her safe and try to understand the feelings she inspires. The storyline is well written, engages the reader and keeps your attention. I found it to be an interesting twist on Vampire relationships.

One thing I am glad of is that I decided to get this in the 3 book bundle since they ended with cliff hangers that would have had me getting the next ones anyway.
This is a different world than most vampire reads so much to learn and very intriguing. We start with Cora who is terminally ill and has no idea she pretty much made a deal with the devil to live.
I had a hard time connecting with the H since it seems he only has feelings for her because of the fact that she is bonded to him like he would have feelings for anyone that is bonded....
I do have the next 3 and hope we get to know him a bit more..
Over all I did enjoy these found them fast paced and intriguing and look forward to more.

2.5 stars.
I really didn't like this book. I got through it which is why I am giving it 2.5 stars. There is no connection between the MCs, even though they are supposed to be bonded. There is supposed to be attraction between them and that seems forced. Cora and Dorian both act all high and mighty from their opposing positions, Cora being more whiny and "poor me" while Dorian is just downright condescending and uncaring. Maybe this series gets better with the next book, I just don't think I want to spend the money to find out.

Very different vampire series....

if you like your vampires nocturnal and sticking to old school rules, this is not the series for you. But if you are open to a new breed, this series will do nicely.

Good Storyline and interesting twists. Cora had a difficult choice to make and didn't have all the facts beforehand. Now the decision has been made and she is forced to make the best of it.

I'm ready to download the new bundle to see how it all works out.

This series grabs you from the first page and doesn't let go. It's extremely well written, the characters are well developed and flushed out, their emotions flow off the pages and become yours. I cried, cheered and laughed with them. I was enthralled and captivated, couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this series to fans of the genre.

**Possible Spoiler**

Update: I have reflected on this series since reading and reviewing it and realized that beyond the amazing story V.M. Black had penned there was one thing about her storytelling that really stood out to me. This series in a fantasy series but one thing that was very reality based was as desperate as Cora was for a cure and could have been excused for jumping into a unknown car with an unknown man, V.M. Black wrote her as being astute enough to have the foresight to text someone the phone number she had last spoken with as well as the full address once she arrived at her destination should she not be heard from within 24 hours. Very smart thinking and a subtle message to anyone reading that a quick safely measure like this should always be considered regardless of the situation. I was really impressed with this and how the author took responsibility to work it into the story.

A MUST READ...Having 1-3 books Let You Keep On Reading....No Waiting For It,

Well I basic had already read one so I'm going straight to 2. Except Cora was found to have cancer at 22, it didn't respond to treatment, so was given 2 choices, 1. basically wait to die or 2. see a Mr. Dorian Thorne. he might know a experimental treatment that could help her. He does not explain the risk ( this is at a time when vampires are born not made). OK 2. Dorian completely handles Cora, guiding her as she adjust to the new world she has awoken to. Now that it is done ,he explains her new life, which she is upset about. He explains that her cancer is cured, what she is now, what she will have to do to live this new live and that she belongs to him now. This story is a new twist on an old ideal of vampires. You will be craving the next set when you finish this one. If you read #1 by itself then you will know what I mean. When you get to the end of #3 you will be wanting #4 right now!!! There is mystery and danger , crazy as it sounds but it seems Cora is in the most danger and Dorian needs to save her. But he is her protector, provider ect., after all she belongs to him. But it seems that Dorian might know more of the danger and mystery then he is telling.

Cora Shaw is just told by her doctor that all treatments for her leukemia is not working. Cora realizes she has months to live, but she is given one last chance. Her doctor gives her a business card and tells her to call him.

She calls Mr. Thorne who invites her into his office. The beautiful man tells her that there's a trial, but there's a risk. 1 in 100 patients survive completely cured. Their medicine can either cure her or kill her. What would you do if you were given a chance to be cured even though it would kill you instantly?

Mr. Thorne who is a man with secrets. He scares and thrills Cora even with a simple touch. She knows there's more to the story, but he is not telling. She finds out when it's too late and she has to decide how to deal with it. She also has to figure out if the thing between the two of them is simply lust or love? Or it's just mind control?

The series was great. I loved the mystery and questions about Mr. Thorne. I felt bad for her when she finds out the truth and I wanted to clobber Mr. Throne on the head. The man needs to take a few romance lessons. I am hoping that they reach an understanding because they do seem to belong together. The only disappointing thing is that each book is so short! I finished each one very quickly.

Life Blood 5 Stars
Mystery and intrigue
College student is going to die of Cancer and all her options are gone. No more treatment available to her. Less than 5 month to live. Would you choose a last ditch offer that has a one in 100 chance of curing you. Not knowing all the details of it and finding out that the day you do the procedure you either live or die. What choice would you make? Well writing and very enjoyable to read.

Blood Born 5 Stars
Life alters
Cora’s life is altered but is it by her choice or not. Would she have chosen if she knew the full truth of it all? And as she tries to go back to her normal life again, in the end she finds out she never will be able to. Well written and entertaining to read.

Bad Blood 5 Stars
Emotional rollercoaster
To be saved from cancer and given life back only to find your life is no longer your own. Cora is discovering what it means to be Dorian’s Cognate. The question is, had she known the whole truth, would she have still chosen this life? Enemies attaching her as well as all that Dorian expects of her. Well written and very entertaining to read. Even shed a few tears in the end.

So when I saw that Ms. Black had a series about vampires I had to check it out since I loved the wolves’ one so much. Man did this story not disappoint. From the beginning you are gripped in its gut wrenching scenario that is wished upon no one with a heart but is reality of today. Poor Cora is trying to do the right things after being handed a crappy deck of cards and being alone in the world. When Cora meets the sexy Mr. Thorne and hears that he might have a way to help she weighs the pros and cons of this possible miracle being given to her. Little does she know that she has just met a vampire and will be changed forever. Cora’s inner struggles through this book all have valid points that she doesn’t always express but that she should sooner rather than later. These two need some communication therapy ASAP before they end up hurting each other emotionally for good. Dorian Thorne knows how to provide for his new friend that makes you wish he was real life. Characters like Clarissa and Mrs. Worth add humor and purpose that Cora hasn’t realized is needed. Good story so far, I can’t wait to read the next part.

I received this as a ARC and I have to say that is thrilled me as I was reading it. I will try to keep from posting spoilers but I do sometimes slip up.

this set is of Cora fighting to save her life, now this book is a great intro to the books about Cora, it explains her mind set, how she was reacting and not really thinking clear. It showed the emotional side of her. The author wrote in such a way you can and do get pulled into the story!

She gets turned and again you see the struggle she has not to blow it. How she struggles with belonging to this vampire who does not like being called a vampire. The issues of not only being his only blood source but also the possibility of one day her bringing in little vampires.

V.M. Black has shown an absolute ability of not only giving you a great story but making each book a entertainment of time. Showing you a different world within our own. I have loved reading this set and can not wait to move to the next one with cliff hangers which make you want to read the next set!!!

Life Blood: Cora's Choice Vampire Series #1
Blood Born: Cora's Choice Vampire Series #2
Bad Blood: Cora's Choice Vampire Series #3
I was riveted to these stories quickly devouring book #1 then moving on to book #2 and then #3. I love the bundle format because it allows you to enjoy the series without any waiting. Ms. Black has given us fascinating, well-developed characters in Cora and Dorien. I found myself running a gauntlet of emotions while Cora struggled with the extreme changes Dorien has brought to her life. This bundle is an exciting read full of intrigue, suspense, sweet romance and breathtakingly edgy, lust filled sexy scenes! Truly an imaginatively well-written group of books! I can't wait to read more of Cora and Dorien's story in the next bundle Rites of Blood: Cora's Choice Vampire Series Bundle 4-6.

I've have a love-hate kind of relationship with Cora she seems to be ungrateful and almost childlike. Then again it was her choice to go under this experimental kind of treatment to save her from her illness and instead of being grateful that she's alive all she's done is complain not once saying Thank You to the person that saved her life. I understand that everything that she's going through is hard for her to comprehend but you would think that she would be a little bit more understanding she was the one who kind of just jumped into it without thinking about her decision. Instead of taking responsibility for her choice she's just wanting to make excuses and blame Dorian for everything. Instead of herself but besides that this was an amazing read can't wait to read the other book in the series.

Different spin on vampires

I liked how the vampires are in this book, gorgeous and dangerous. In addition, there seems to be other paranormal characters that will be introduced, at least it seems like a possibility. Now as for Cora, she gets on my nerves. Every view is pessimistic. She talks about the horror of vampires "eating" humans, yet she did not compare it to killing and eating a cow or another animal. Humans are a predator and animals are our prey and vampires are a predator and humans are their prey, in correlation. She would have died and instead of appreciating her life, she constantly finds fault. Yes, the mind control would not be fun, but it does seem that he does not use all the time and she is able to make her own decisions, yet she does not seem to realize it.

This is a great series. I am in love with Cora and Dorian. I can't imagine being so young and being diagnosed with terminal cancer. But Cora is a fighter and determined to have her life. When the mysterious Dorian offers and experimental cure she sees no other option. But when she wakes from the procedure she has been transformed into his cognate, a vampire's mate and blood source. Yourself before her introduction to the agnate society Cora gets the news that she will eventually have to give Dorian children too. Cora is furious and wants nothing to do with creating more like Dorian. But there is a greater purpose that can't be ignored.
A great read that sucks you in to every page. Never gets boring. Can't wait for the next installment.

Blood of Life: Cora's Choice Books 1-3 is the bundled edition of the first three books in the serial.

These books introduce us to Cora and Dorian and the new world they exist in.

Cora is first introduced as a terminally ill college student who is given months to live and has an unexpected opportunity for a new "trial" cure. She doesn't know what the cure really is until she's already agreed to risk it.

There is an instant connection between Dorian and Cora though she doesn't understand exactly what it is.

This serial introduced a new kind of vampire and an interesting take on the world surrounding them. I loved the unique aspects of this world and enjoyed watching as Cora and Dorian's new life together started unfolding.

FANTASTIC FIND.....

I absolutely LOVE this Series and I'm ecstatic in knowing there are 3 more books to this specific Series and then I have Cora's Bond to look forward to....Yes, I do LOVE books about Vampires and/or Paranormals but I thoroughly enjoyed V.M. Black's writing in this series. The characters she created, how they interact with each other, including Cora's friends and of course the two main characters, Cora and Dorian. The vulnerability of a young girl that will do anything to survive and then having to accept her decision and EVERYTHING that comes with it, even though she had no idea what she was getting herself into and what she would become in the process.....If I could give 10 stars for this bundle of books, I ABSOLUTELY would do it a heartbeat!!!

Could you make the choice? If given the choice to live or die at 22 what would you choose? The only prerequisite is that death be eminent. You would have the chance to finish everything you wanted, you could live your life....Or could you? You are suddenly part of something bigger than yourself in a way, and so much more than you ever knew existed. This story is dark, erotic, and totally delish! Every woman needs a Dorian Thorn her fist time out! V.M. Black, you totally rock! If you are a vampire lover, you would be doing yourself a great loss if you didn't read this series....Please follow the series!!!!!!!!!

#2 Cora learns what Dorian truly is and hoe her life has changed fore ever. Cora wants to go back to her normal life, but she soon finds out it may be harder than she thinks. The cliffhanger at the end has me on the edge of my seat

#3 Cora is trying to adjust to the new life she is been given. She learns more about Dorian's research and what role she is now playing.

Cora has a decision to make, she's dying of Cancer when she's offered the chance of a possible cure that throws Cora into a world of Agnates (vampires) and their politics that's puts Cora's life in Danger yet again, after saving her from the cancer can Dorian save her from the world he's drawn her into ?
VM Black draws you in with the emotions and turmoil as Cora struggles to remain herself and hang on to the life she saw for herself while being left with little choice but to join Dorian , even if its against her will !
This series has everything, powerful vampires, excitement, intrigue, uncontrollable attraction and heated sex. What more could a girl want ?!

Having this bundle takes care of immediately being able to read what comes next after the end of book 1 and 2. Which believe me, once you start book 1 you'll know what I mean. Cora gets a second chance at life but not the kind she was expecting. Throughout the 3 books you see her naiveté leaving her as she witnesses glimpses of what her new life is becoming. This series is exciting, action packed, addictive, romantic, sensual & well written. Between this series and Ms. Black's 'Taken by the Panther' series, she has become one of my newest favorite authors and I will most certainly be looking at anything that she releases in the future.
