It's Like Here Only Better

To know that there's life after death is a priceless gift, one our son gave us by visiting his friends and family, over and over again, to tell us that he's doing just fine on the other side. I hope his continuing story gives hope to all those who've lost someone they love.

Sometimes you come across a book and you can feel the emotion that the author poured into it. When it is fiction, that quality really makes the characters seem to leap from the page. When it is non-fiction - the effect is to pull the reader into to pages instead. When it is non-fiction that deals with a tragic event involving a mother's loss - it really makes the reader wonder how Landry was able to put into words what she went through.

Landry recounts the tragic accident that took her son too quickly from the world and some of the events that have occurred afterwards to give her signs that her son, Tim, was trying to communicate with her and his friends.

I know some people might dismiss this as "seeing what you want to see" and making connections that aren't there. Having lost a younger brother much too early, I can say that I went through a period where I thought I was going crazy with some of the "signs" that I was coming across. At first, I tried to rationalize that I was looking for things and making connections. But after things kept happening, I have opened myself up to other possibilities.

Landry has given tribute to not only her son's memory in this book, but has given a gift to all of Tim's family and friends by documenting ways and signs that her son has given them to let them know that "It's Like Here Only Better" where he is at. It is obvious from the pages that this book was a labor of love, and I feel that it delivers a message and story that hopefully the readers can just read about and never have to experience.

For those of us who have experienced a sudden loss of a significant person in our lives, this book will have you walking through all of the different stages of the experience again. In some ways, it was difficult - but in many more ways, this book let me know that what I went through and some of the experiences I have had afterwards might be more of the rule instead of the exception.

I would like to personally thank Robin Landry for sharing her experiences with others so that they may know that they aren't alone in what they are going through.

Robin writes in her Introduction, "One of the reasons I decided to write this book is because I received a few books on grief, but reading them did not help me deal with my grief." In the following 34 chapters, Robin does just that. She dives into the grieving process of losing her son, and shares her experience. Though, right from the start, Robin makes it clear that she sees grief as an individual process. I found this to be true for myself, as well, which further drew me into her story.

Robin writes honestly about all stages of grief, and how it affected her. She shares dreams, letters and other memories that allows the reader to get to know her son and why he was so special. My favorite statement in her book also comes from her Introduction: "Your loved one is not gone, just out of reach in the physical world."

To Robin -- as difficult as it must have been to write this, thank you. Thank you for your bravery and honesty. I hope that it brought you as much healing and encouragement as it will bring your future readers.

There are no words to explain how moved I was reading this book.
After suffering the loss of her son, a mother is seeing signs that he is trying to communicate with her from heaven.
After losing a loved one a few years ago, members of my family have told me that they've seen signs. I can say that I don't believe that I have, but can't imagine how seeing one would be. This book is the closest I've come so far. Between these pages, I have a renewed sense of hope that maybe one day.........

This was a very emotional read! Emotionally raw in some areas. Many times I had to fight back the tears. A truly heartfelt opening of ones pain at loosing a loved one. My heart goes out to you and your family. If I ever do go through what you and your family have gone through, I hope that I experience a great deal of what you did to ease the pain.

This book was a very short story about a mother who loses her son in an accident. It follows her journey of grief and finally acceptance,
through the telling of dreams had by friends and family about the deceased. I was hoping for a more clinical type of book.

This book... I feel awful saying that it was bad because It's a book written about someone's personal story of loss and grief but it wasn't AT ALL what I was expecting. I'm not really sure why this was made into a book. Seemed very personal like it should've stayed within the family. I didn't really feel like it was helpful in my personal journey with grief but more so just someone telling their story about how their loved one has visited them since passing. Also, the format for Kindle was awful... just terrible.
