After twelve years away, Callie James agrees to return home. Taking care of her dad's construction business and her younger sister proves to be more of a challenge than she anticipated. As she struggles to balance business and family, she also struggles with the end of a relationship. Callie is thrown one more curveball when Chris Graham, a guy she's disliked since she was sixteen, turns up. Can she let go of her independence enough to trust God with her struggles and her future?
Chris Graham has been surrounded by couples since the marriage of his brother three years ago. He often feels like he's the only single guy around. His interest is piqued when he learns Callie is back in town. He never understood why the girl disliked him so much when they were young. When his brother and sister-in-law decide they would like more room and hire Callie to build an addition to their place, Chris begins to spend more time with her. The more he learns about her, the more enamored he becomes. Can he get past the walls she's erected around herself and her heart?
After Suzie Waltner graduated from the University of Idaho, she moved to Nashville, Tennessee. After sixteen years, she now claims Nashville as her home. She loves all things Jane Austen, reading, watching movies, and cheering for the Nashville Predators hockey team. While she hasn’t found her true love, she hasn’t given up dreaming about him. Pursued is her second novel.
I won this book through GoodReads First Read program.
This is Waltner's second installment in her series dealing with young Christian couples who fight through all life throws at them and come together at the end. I enjoyed this one more then Remembrance.
In Pursued, Callie is back in town to run her parent's business while they are on a mission trip to Peru for a year. She also needs to take care of her younger sister Libby. I really didn't see much of Callie and Libby butting heads as I anticipated in reading the reviews.
While she is back Callie runs into Chris who she has known for years and disliked. Her feelings about Chris go back to her father's decision to have Chris work with him in his construction business instead of Callie when they were 16. Callie worked with her uncle in the same business. I am not sure this was really that big a deal and it was hardly Chris's fault yet Callie remains angry at Chris for years.
I like how the author brought God into play throughout the book. Callie even becomes a Christian following in the steps of her family and Chris after some persuasion from her best friend Becca. I also liked how the characters had to learn to trust God and things work out. I have to learn that lesson myself from time to time.
There were a few editing problems throughout the book and it was pretty dull at times but maybe that is the point. God is involved with us throughout our hum drum lives not just in the big moments.
As I began to read this story I was having a hard time trying to remember who was who. There were tons of characters that were thrown at you within the first few pages. I did like the way it was written w/ not nearly as many mistakes as some books I've read. It's a cute story. I like the idea. What I didn't understand was why Callie hated Chris so much over something that wasn't his fault and it had been explained to her by her father when she was 16 during the moment she started to hate him. I felt bad for him and she seemed very immature especially to still feel hatred toward him 10 yrs. later over nothing. Then the father not mentioning things about the business and just going away for that long and not thinking twice about Callie just leaving school & going back home to the mess??? The dual POV's I love when I see them in a book I know that's not easy to write I love it even though there wasn't a warning at all it just came at you in the middle of reading one POV I would suggest labeling or something to indicate the switch and space apart just a tad bit more. I liked Chris he's sweet. This is a cute story and I think with just a few things that I mentioned above and some other small things it has the potential of being a 5 star book.
After Chris Graham didn't get the girl in the first book of this series, I was happy to see him return for another chance at love. Callie James is the perfect woman for him. Unfortunately many obstacles stand in the way, the big one being Callie won't even give Chris the time of day. I enjoyed having a heroine that's in the male-dominated field of construction. I really enjoyed the story and the characters were great. I loved that Callie's friend Becca played a large role in this story, as she'll be the heroine in the next book. I like getting previews of what's to come. Once again, this story could have used a little more editing, but I like how much promise the author shows. I look forward to seeing what she has coming up next.
This is the 2nd book in a series written by a friend of mine from high school. I enjoyed it even more than her first book (which I also liked). It was a very pleasant way to pass the time and I particularly loved the spiritual growth of her main character, Callie James. I actually felt I could relate to her and learn along with her. I also enjoyed the plot and the time she took to develop her characters. Really an overall good book!
Loved it! Need to get book 1 "Remembrance" and book 3 "Enduring Love" so that can to the beginning and then to the end That depending on whether you stop there or decide to come back with more interaction, or not! Let me know if you decide to resurrect (bring back to life) any of the characters and/or places from this series.
