She gave up on love, and it may cost her everything...

Alex Griffin had her heart broken when she was younger, and she’s never recovered. Settling for the nice guy she met at a show seemed like a good idea at the time. Until he started blackmailing her with the sex tape he secretly filmed of their first time together. It’s not money he wants, it’s her submission to him in ways that scare her. She’s held him off, but she knows that’s it’s only a matter of time before she’ll have to give in—or embarrass her family. To top it all off, Miles Corrigan has come back into her life, and proves that he hates her just as much now as he did six years ago. At least she has a job she loves, and new friends who care about her, but will they be enough to keep both her body, and her heart, safe?

He walked away from the girl he loved, and stopped caring about everything...

Miles Corrigan was in love once, and honestly, he still is. He couldn’t have the girl he wanted then, and after he’s slept his way across the country, she wouldn’t want him now. He’s already given up his dream, and his dream girl, so there’s no point in changing. Until he learns that Alex Griffin is in trouble. He’ll risk everything to keep her safe, even if it means revealing that he’s in love with her. And that he stopped being her friend because he never thought they could be together. He’s done fighting his feelings, and decides to let himself be happy for once in his life. But he didn’t keep his biggest enemy close enough, and he’s not the only one who’s paying for that mistake.

An enemy neither one of them saw coming will try to destroy them both...

Finding out just how twisted people can be, Miles shuts Alex out once again. They’ve gotten past her overprotective uncles, and the unsettling presence of his ex-lovers, but he can’t accept the fact that she’s suffered because of him. After the truth is revealed to her, Alex will pull out all the stops in order to show him that he’s more than worthy of the love she feels for him. Will it be enough for Miles to forgive himself, and accept that love, or will he go back to his old ways?

This is a novella, and not a full length book. You will meet many of the characters from my upcoming series, Corrigan & Co., in this book.

Crystal Perkins has always been a big reader, but she never thought she would write her own book, until she sat down in 2014 and did it. She's now published over 40 books, and has been featured in several anthologies as well.

She lived in Las Vegas for over a decade, where you could find her running author events and winning bookseller awards. She's was recently living in North Dakota to be closer to her family, but she is back in Vegas. When she's not reading a few hundred books a year or chasing after her grandson, you can find her watching hockey (Go Knights Go!) and trying to find the perfect shade of lipstick.

She loves Star Wars AND Star Trek, but if pushed to choose, it will always be Leia and her crew who come out on top. Her love of all things nerdy comes through in her book characters, no matter the genre. A mac and cheese connoisseur, she travels the world looking for the perfect version, while attending book conventions and signings as a cover for her research. Poutine research is also conducted regularly on her trips.

Her first series, The Griffin Brothers, followed four billionaire brothers, and the third book, Creating a Love, was a finalist for a multicultural award in 2014. Her second series, Corrigan & Co. featured a secret society of female spies in Las Vegas. She followed this with Society Girls, which offered a glimpse into the training of the women who are recruited into the Corrigan & Co. Foundation, and the Society. The Company Men series featured the relatives of her secret society of spies.
Activate is a Young Adult Sci-Fi standalone novel, and A Kiss Is Just a Kiss is a Romantic Comedy standalone book. If you like something darker, you can find her Horror short stories in the Never Fear anthologies!

She’s currently writing about modern day witches in her Burn series, and bridesmaids for hire who solve mysteries in The Maids! In 2020, she will also be starting a hockey novella series.

Crystal loves hearing from her readers, so please feel free to send her an email, Facebook message, or Tweet! She's also on Instagram, where you can see her monthly reads!

Added to the most annoyingly stupid brainless doormat master list is.....Alex (just walk allover me).

“I was only ever with other women because I thought I could never have you. I knew I’d never love anyone like I love you, so I didn’t want to have a relationship. Meaningless fucks were enough to keep me happy. Or that’s what I thought until I saw you at Luke and Olivia’s renewal ceremony. I knew then that I would never be happy without you.”

“You acted like you still hated me. And you didn’t stop with women then.”

“I never hated you. Never. God, I can’t believe I made you think that. Yes, I kept sleeping around. But only because I still didn’t think I could have you.”

"And you slept with all those women because you thought you couldn’t have me?”

“Yes.”

Someone take her out back and shoot her.

I almost dnf'd at 34% but kept reading just in case. Unfortunately, the dialogue and characters actions became cheesy and trite. 1 star.

YOUR HONEST REVIEW!

Working On Love by Crystal Perkins was a twofer. It was not only a wrap up to her Griffin Brothers Series but it is also an interlude to her new series Corrigan & Co.

This is the book of the boys niece, Alex. This is kind of her "coming out book". Perkins doesn't believe in doing anything in a small quiet way. Nope, so Alex hits adulthood and keeps running. She gets a job with the Corrigan Co. as a secretary, and makes friends with everyone quickly

Miles, is the grandson to the owner of the company. He and Alex have been friends a long time, since she was 13. Their grandmothers are best friends, so they have spent a lot of time together in the past. He is a bit of a player, and just so happens has slept with almost every woman in his grandmother's office.

They have had feelings for each other but with a 5 year age difference, nothing has been possible, but now Alex is no longer a minor. The problem now is that she is in a relationship with another guy.

Twist, turns, and surprises keeps this story very interesting!! Plus you meet several of the characters in the upcoming series that makes you want that release date to be TOMORROW! There you have it folks, my honest opinion!

I give Working On Love 4 stars!

I didn’t realize until I sat down to write this review that I had read the previous book in the series, Designing the Love, and I don’t remember it super well, but I don’t think either had anything to do with each other.

The blurb sets it up, Alex loved Miles SO SO SO much, but he ghosted her when he went to college and has acted like he can’t stand her since. Little did she know Miles also loved her SO SO SO much, but he had reasons. Six years later he learns she’s in trouble and decides that he’s finally ready to make his move.

It had the ingredients to be a juicy second-chance romance but fell short because serious topics are either handled super blasé or immaturely, and the characters were OTT or silly. And the dialogue was dry or cheesy.

I loved this novella. I really liked Alex in the four books in the series. Seeing Alex more grown up in this novella at first was difficult. It was like reading my son's diary. But once my mind was able to move pass that, and seeing all the love that Alex has had saved for Miles, it was really sweet.

Can Miles stop whoring around?

Alex and Miles start off this book where we left off in the others, Miles being mean and ignoring Alex. After Miles starts to get his head on straight, another stumbling block happens that his father helped to perpetrate and we find ourselves watching their relationship implode again. It was a little too far fetched for me at points, especially given what Alex is now involved in. Not my favorite in this series.

A fast, good read

Alex And Miles have known each other for years, but there was a 6 year age gap so Miles bided his time but vowed to not see Alex. Now Alex is 19 and working for the Society when Miles sees her again, but now she is of age and needs help from a creep ex-boyfriend. On e it seems they are on track, something happens that will threaten their happiness. It was a good fast read. Now I will have to start with the beginning of the series.

I was the most excited for Alex's story. We got to see her grow from book one. I was very disappointed that she only got a novela. I don't like that she used Alex sorry to start a new series. I was not a fan of this authors writing and don't plan to read another series by her and was upset that she used my favorite girl to spinoff.
