Able to navigate sleep’s vast dreamwaters, wild child Maisie Lane makes easy money as a courier delivering packages from one dream to another. So what if her employers are on the shadier side of the law? Her sister thinks she’s living for the pleasure of the moment. Pleasure is involved—why shouldn’t it be?—but every step Maisie takes is part of a careful plan. That is, until she crosses into a dream so evil, she has no choice but to run.
Special Agent Steve Coll is tasked to recruit Maisie for Chimera, the organization that polices shared dreams. At first he’s taken with her funny and carefree spirit, then brought to his knees by her tough and passionate soul. Touching her is forbidden ecstasy, but Steve can’t resist breaking the rules with Maisie. A darkness is gathering, evil preparing to strike, and only Maisie stands between it and innocent lives. No matter what happens, Steve won’t let her stand alone—he’ll die before he leaves her side.

I can honestly say I have never read a series like this one, in that l cannot think of any other books or stories where a large chunk of the plot actually plays out while people are asleep and dreaming…
Erin Kellison has certainly hit pay-dirt with this one, because as a reader I literally have no clue where her imagination is going to take mine next, and for a reader I think that’s such a good kind of rush.
Her predicament was the most fun he’d had in a long time.
We pick up the story literally from where it left off in the previous novella, but this time the story is told from mainly Steve Coll, and Maisie Lane’s POV’s. Both were important characters in book one, but they both come into their own in this installment. Maisie is in pretty deep trouble, when it turns out the packages she has been illicitly delivering through dreams have more than just your standard illegal fare in them. What started out as an easy way to make a bit of cash by using her unique skills has turned literally into her worst nightmare.
She’d messed up, but she was still worth something…
Steve is the agent that has been tasked with recruiting Maisie into Chimera the organization that in effect Polices, people’s behavior and movements through the Dreamscape, to say she is reluctant would be an understatement, and following rules is definitely something she would on a normal day avoid. But as the discovery of what is actually in the parcels rocks her to her core, and new information comes to light, they both know that she needs his particular skill set to try and work out why she has been delivering what she has, and the reasons for it. Her predicament also brings out all of Steve’s alpha instincts as well, which shocks them both, because they are sooo not each other’s type… or are they?
Pink is rapidly becoming one of my favorite colors.
There is no time for dreaming when reading this series that is for sure, the author offers up lots of new and unusual plot points as the story moves along, you are also given a few looks into the minds of the supposed villains along the way as well. New characters were also introduced in the telling of this part of the overall story, and although Jordan, Rook, and now Steve and Maisie have had the focus on them, it would appear that while still involved in the story as a whole the focus move along to another couple in the next book in the Reveler series, as Steve’s boss Harlen Fawkes takes center stage in Darksider, I have to say I am on pins to see where the plot goes next.

"Dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before", Lay Me Down picks up where Darkness Falls (book #1 of the REVELERS series) leaves off and takes us on the journey of our 2nd power couple of the series, Steve and Maisie.
Where Darkness Falls set the stage with explaining the Reves, introducing the characters, setting the groundwork for some of the rules, and showing us the darknesss Darkside, Lay Me Down kicks up the mystery and delves more into some of the big bads that I can only assume will continue to plague our heroes and heroines throughout the series. And in true Erin Kellison fashion, the antagonist is a despicable one. Plus, just when you think that he may have been dealt with, it's revealed that he will, indeed, be back for more mayhem.
I simply love Maisie. She kind of reminds me of myself in a lot of ways. I knew from book #1 that I'd like her, and her own book, with glimpses deeper into who she really is, simply reinforced that. Steve's a great hero too, and his secret and added power as Chimera and a Reveler was a nice twist. I didn't connect with him quite as much as I did with Rook, but he was still fun to read.
My only complaint... I wanted more. Given the novella length of the book, things felt a bit rushed to me and other things felt a little incomplete. I'm assuming that we will get more of the missing pieces as the series continues, however, so I'm only wanting more soon. Good thing book #3 will be available 6/9/14!
This series is one that you don't want to miss. Book #1 was instantly compelling, utterly intriguing, chock full of absolutely incredible characters, and had plenty of wit and sexiness to round out the dark goodness, and book #2 had intrigue, surprise, action and mystery. REVELERS is highly recommended!
Disclosure: I got this book as an ARC from Netgalley, that however doesn't change the fact I was dying to read it after reading the first one and literally jumped on the chance to review it in order to get to see it early.
Maisie Lane thought she had everything figured out she was well on her way to her dream on her own terms. Until, the shady people she was working with went after her sister. Now Maisie is hesitantly cooperating with Steve Coll from Chimera, the police of dreams. In a world where dreams can be controlled and where Maisie extraordinary. Only the gift of being extraordinary in the dream turns into a curse of sorts in this epic battle for both her life and her heart.
This is the second book of this series, Reveler and it equally lives up to the first. The dynamic of the two main characters Steve and Maisie is realistic and yet fantasy enough to give you the epic sort of romance. The overall storyline is unique with the idea of beyond lucid dreaming to literally living in a dream is among one of the best I have read recently. The book is a quick read, but suspense packed enough to keep you reading until the end. I literally put this book down to sleep and that was only due to blurred vision. I would definitely lose sleep to continue. I really enjoyed the transition and incorporation between book 1 and 2 that although included the characters from 1 took the time to expand the secondary characters into their own story.
Ready for a ride into your darkest dreams? Lay Me Down fast tracks us into the ultimate fantasy, our very dreams. Erin Kellison shows how truly unique she is with her Reveler Series. In book two we discover that sometimes our waking dreams is where the real nightmares are.
In Lay Me Down Ms. Ellison takes us deeper into reality. Two individuals who live better in dreamscape have to work together in reality to find the man behind the evil.
Maisie Lane has been little girl lost since her mother's death. Masquerading as a Wild Child very few people see past her facade. A creative, unique individual who has finally found a place where she is comfortable. Except it's in her dreams. When she was asked to be a courier, she thought it an easy job for fast money. A way to pay for her future. Except like all things that seem to good to be true it was. Now she is in Chimera's (The dream police) custody and she has to figure out just how she is going to get out if this mess. Having to deal with Chimera top cop Steve Coll is just an added distraction.
Steve Coll knows more about the dreamworld than anyone can imagine. He has been traversing it since he was five, long before it was "discovered". Because of his unique talents he has been afraid to put down roots, making him an ideal person for Chimera recruitment. Only this particular recruit us beginning to mean more than just another body for Chimera. This time Steve wants it all...
Together Steve and Maisie have to traverse between dreams and reality trying to discover not only what the evil is AND who is controlling it.
This is one of those series that sucks you in... compells you to want more. Makes you crave the next word, paragraph, page, book... It grows with each character introduced, makes you wonder how much of our dreams create our reality and how much reality is in our dreams.
Steve and Maisie are the perfect couple. On the outside they seem like complete opposites but when their masks are removed?? Oh yeah...
Seriously, check this book out. Although I do recommend you read book one, Darkness Falls , first.

This review is based on the ARC of Lay Me Down, provided by netgalley and by the author for an honest review.
This is the second book in the Reveler series and certainly takes the story up a notch. This follows on from Darkness Falls but this time the action is centred around Maisie and Steve Coll. Maisie has been acting as an illegal courier in the dreamscape known as Reve but it's all gone bad and now she's in danger but struggles to let anyone close. Enter Steve Coll agent for Chimera and a man with so many secrets that to truly know him is to fear him. He's determined that the annoying and tempting Maisie will join him and refuses to take no for an answer but Maisie is a tough nut to crack and doesn't take anything lying down! I'm really enjoying these books but they are too short! I found that this book moved the story along quite nicely and we are finally getting to the heart of what it means to go into a lucid dream state and just what can happen. In the previous book the dark side was only hinted at but here the author allows her imagination free reign and the reader gets a better understanding of just how truly dangerous the world of sleep can be. As to the characters well Maisie is no push over and she's a young woman who needs so much to be free but freedom can often come at a hefty price. Maisie is an amazingly talented dream walker with as yet untapped abilities but she doesn't always see the bigger picture. With Steve Coll around we really start to appreciate just what could be possible as he's an exceptional guy with numerous hidden talents and reading about him is a little like pealing an onion as he has so many layers . He may not have the snark and wit of Maisie but he's a man of passions although I think I still prefer Rook from the first book. Ms Kellison takes the storyline in a whole new direction with this instalment as we start to see just what evil lurks on the other side and just how it can interact with the waking world and we also finally have a believable protagonist which helps direct the plot even more. This series is really hotting up and coming into it's own now. Fabulous writing that's so descriptive and a unique concept that has really captured my attention. These books are definitely recommended
This series must be read in order. The first book is Darkness Falls: Reveler Series 1. This is the second book.
Maisie is a wild child free spirit so no way is she just going to quietly roll over and give in to the uptight Chimera agent Steve just because Jordan wants her to. Maze has a plan and it does not include being part of the dream police or a know it all babysitter... That may be fine for Jordan but Maze is not buying it for herself.
Not many series are this original. I never really thought of shared dreaming as a drug of choice until I read the first book. Now I totally get and love the concept! And where there is new pleasures there have to be new abuses... That's where Chimera comes in... To stop the abuses of power and to keep all the norms safe. And clueless (wouldn't want the regular people to know the real dangers after all) Widespread panic wouldn't be good for business after all.
Full of action, mystery, and adventure this romantic suspense thriller is chock full of paranormal goodies to keep you guessing. The characters are enigmas just waiting to be solved! I really love this series for always keeping me on my toes! I can not wait for the next book!
I am loving this series! As soon as I finished Darkness Falls I went right out and bought this book because I wanted to know what happened to Coll and Maisie, and I'm so glad that I did.
Another quick read with lots of action packed into the pages. I really like the strong female characters and the interactions between them and the alpha males trying to "recruit and protect". Maze certainly has hidden depths and it seems apparent we've just scratched the surface of her talent. Steve is certainly not what he appears to be as well and I can't wait to find out what his backstory is.
I like that both stories leave us with the feeling that the couples are going to love and fight together, while leaving you wanting to find out more about what happens to you when you cross over to the darkside.
Great 2nd book to this new trilogy..Takes off from where the first one ended.. Maize is the wild child and Steve is the special agent tasked with recruiting Maize to the Chimera.. A wild ride through this new realm of Dream worlds.. Cant wait to see what the next book will bring.. received this as a gift from the author for an honest review
I loved this follow up to Darkness Falls. Maisie is quite the character. I love the interactions between her and Steve. They are funny, and then they get steamy (yum). I can't wait to see what happens in the next installment
Continuing the story from where the first left off, we get more of Maisie & Coll. Maisie loves to reve. Loves might just be not enough of a word for what she likes about the dreaming world. She's got a special talent and she's been squirreling away secrets, money, and her talent. When Coll discovers what she's been hiding he's worried. They already know something is going on inside the world of dreamers, as well as, the Chimera. These two need to learn to get along so they can solve the ever increasing problems or everything is going to come crashing down. We get to catch up with Jordan & Rook, and another Marshall comes in to help.
Again, I couldn’t put this down and was left salivating for the next book. Erin Kellisons’ writing style and imagination are unique and captivating. Mazie Lane wants to be independent and uses her talents darkside to achieve her goals, even if it is a little bit illegal. Special Agent Steve Coll is trying to recruit Mazie for the organization that polices shared dreaming. Sparks fly when they come together. The villain(s) are dastardly and not revealed until the end creating edge of your seat suspense. I recommend this book to anyone interested in paranormal romance and SciFi.
At first I really disliked the MCs - they both seemed to be selfish and out for only themselves. However, as the story unfolded the Maise and College became less cardboard and more real - their flaws and strengths exposed, they became complex and interesting. Always glad when a story takes me by surprise.
Another great book in the Reveler series! I do wish these books were a little longer, at only a little over 100 pages it the story does go by rather quickly, but there aren't any dull moments either. Lay me Down focused on two characters that we met in the first book, Maisie (Jordan's wild sister), and the ultimate Chimera recruiter, Coll (aka Steeeeeeve). Maze is definitely an interesting character, she's her own person, and believes that most rules were made for breaking. She pretty much stirs up trouble wherever she goes, but at the same time is a genuinely decent person. She gets herself in a heap of trouble in the first book, while being a currier for some not so nice people in the Reve. Like her sister, Maze has some unique talents with the Reve. I really like with each new addition we get a larger picture of not only this incredible dream world, but also the people that inhabit it. We are seeing more amazing abilities from the people that live in this world too.
"The dark city that struck up into a midnight sky was drawn with razor sharp edges, each formation a meticulous rendering of angles and detail, yet the dark patches weren't just shaded black, but were empty vacuums of density. From the buildings' windows gleamed an occasional white light. Her dream wasn't a localized conception, either; it had a sense of vastness, of completion, the likes of which he'd never witnessed before."
I was really impressed that with this being a shorter book, the romance did not feel rushed. It was more slow starting than the previous book. There was more conflict and animosity between Coll and Maze at the beginning. There relationship slowly evolved with the story. I really liked that. Coll was a very mysterious character. You start out not really knowing much about him or what he is truly capable of, and slowly get glimpses at the power he wields. He was very different from the characters we have met thus far, and his was a welcome addition to this growing world.
While the drama between Maze and her unwelcomed pursuers was happening, there was also more bits and pieces of the darker side to this dreamscape being uncovered. We got to learn a little more about the nightmarish creatures that live on the outskirts of the Reve, in the shadows of the Scrape. Kellison yet again only gives you these tid bits in small doses though. The more you find out, the more intrigued you are. It has a inception like feel to it. Each book just adding another layer to such a vast idea. There were so many twists and turns throughout the book that you were constantly on the edge of your seat just waiting to find out what happens next. I will say I was a little confused about the whole idea of the waking dreams aspect and also the transferring of memories element. But like so much else, we only got a taste of that, and I'm curious to see if that will all be looked at more in depth in the following books. I hope so.
The end of Lay Me Down definitely leaves you wanting more. Things seem very far from finished. I can't wait to see where the story goes from here. The possibilities, like the dream world itself, are really limitless with this series. Thus far my interest only continues to grow with each addition. Lucky for me the third book seems to have been released yesterday! I already purchased it and look forward to starting very soon. I highly recommend this series to fans of PNR that are looking for something new and unique.

Erin Kellison's Lay Me Down is the second installment in her Reveler novella series and it was just as amazing as the first one! Moving forward with characters we've previously met, Maisie and Steve take the spotlight in this one as the two try to figure out what's going on with the "bad guys" who had hired Maisie to make her deliveries in the past.
Maisie is a far cry different from her sister Jordan, who also makes an appearance in this one with Rook. She's a bit more wild, as Steve describes her. For we get Steve and Maisie's point of view the most. There are segments from a few other characters, but not nearly as much.
Steve on the other hand remains to be a man of mystery. We get a tiny bit of insight to his character and background info, but towards the end, we have quite a lot of new info and I don't know what to do with it! Steve is just mystery personified! Hopefully those answers will come along eventually. I mean, we get an idea of why Steve's so mysterious but I feel like we don't fully understand the man completely.
Some of the events from last time work their way into this story as well, such as Blackburne still being trapped in the Scrape, his father is also still missing.
Maisie and Steve learn just what exactly Maisie was delivering on her last "job" and it is a total game changer. For now the two will have to devise a plan in order to find out who the real bad guy is and stop him before Maisie or someone else innocent gets hurt.
And naturally, there's romance between Maisie and Steve, since this is a Paranormal Romance novella! But yet, we still have a nice buildup to the romance. The two weren't jumping each other's bones right away! Granted, the romance does happen fast, but that's normal, even in a novella where there has to be a resolution of some sort, and it's typical of Paranormal Romance too!
I truly hope we're not done with these characters we have met yet, for these novellas seem to give us new characters each time with the old ones still returning with a cameo. But I feel like their stories just aren't done yet. There's still so much we have yet to resolve with what they were all dealing with. It's definitely going to be a fun novella series to read! And the next one will come out on Monday, June 9! Yay for a short wait!

This is book number 2 of the Reveler Series, Maisie, younger sister of Jordan and Steve Coll, who is Malcolm boss and mentor. Steve is a full time recruiter for Chimera, a group that monitors and polices the Dreamwaters against people that would use it for corrupt, illegal and dangerous means. As a recruiter they are also always on the lookout for new people that have the ability to become part of their organization. Those people they try to recruit before the bad guys get their hooks into them.
In book 1, Maisie is caught red handed just before she makes a delivery. She sees too much of a dreamscape that is so scary that even she doesn’t want to ever venture back into it. These areas are call the Dark and few can walk the Dark Areas safely – those few that are talented enough services are a very hot commodity that are either snapped up by the highest bidder or recruited by Chimera.
Now, I had a real problem with Maisie thru the entire first book and really my opinion of her didn’t change much thru the second book. She acted like a spoiled brat, who only had her own self-interest at heart. What really bothered me is that she was making money hand over fist doing these illegal deliveries and keeping the money. Her sister, Jordan, had been working her butt to make money for all those years, since their parents had died, just to make ends meet and make sure that Maisie wasn’t thrown into foster care. To me that was really selfish. Toward the end of the book, Maisie did start to redeem herself, but still – taking advantage of her sister like that….it really ticked me off.
Now Steve Coll, he turns out to be quite a surprise. He seems like your average guy, not a lot of surprises out of him. But don’t let those Clark Kent glasses fool you. (he doesn’t wear glasses – I’m just kidding about that). The sexual chemistry between them ramps up pretty quickly, which I thought was a little odd, but you know, whatever. They end up traveling to Vegas, land in the lap of luxury – so I guess, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas (I can say that since I live here, hehe)
This was a pretty quick read, very enjoyable, flowed very well and the subject matter was something new and interesting that kept my attention and made me want to keep reading to see what would happen next. I know there is a third book out and will be reading it as soon as I get a chance.
Second book in the Reveler Series. I normally don't go for the wild, rebel child because they tend to be too selfish and too self-consumed and I never warm up to them. But Maze (Maisie), our heroine here is different. She is vulnerable as well as she's passionate. And our hero, Steven Coll, not sure if he's an very reserved Alpha or a Beta with Alpha tendencies but oh, man! he's become one of my favorites BB. He's quiet as he's funny, he's controlling as he has a cool demeanor, he's got a special talent and recognizes that Maisie has a force of her own and doesn't keep her down. He's just W-O-W. And together they really are one of my favorite couples ever. So we see the beginning of their relationship in book one when Steve has to protect Maze, even from herself, at the same time as try to get her to become a Chimera agent. Here we expand more into what exactly Maze did and why were people after her and who are those people. Maze is a 21 year old girl with dreams of independence and in order to finance those dreams she starts delivering packages through Reves (dreams) for the wrong people. At the beginning of the story Steve sees her as an annoying child because he's 7 year old her senior and he's seen and lived through a lot more and doesn't think she'd ever see him as anything but an old man, even though he can't deny she's beautiful. Throughout the story, Maze proves that not only is she not a child but she's smarter than he gave her credit for, creating something that makes her a rare commodity and braver too because even though she's in danger she put family before her own safety. New enemies are discovered and a new net of betrayal needs to be brought to life before someone gets killed. In other words, another cliffhanger but an excellent one. The Reve world gets more complex as we go but I couldn't shake this feeling of awe. Every single detail in the dreaming or wake world is explored by the author. Each character feels connected to the story and there is never a dull moment. It's interesting how the more complex it sounded to me the more it made sense and the more I wanted to know about share dreaming. It's definitely a story worth reading if you're a fan of sci-fi or UF.
Lay Me Down picks up right after the end of Darkness Falls. It centers around our resident wild child Maisie “Maze” Lane and her protector/jailer Steve Coll. Maisie has gotten herself into a bind with some very bad people by acting as an illegal courier in the dreamscape. Steve is determined to free Maze from their evil grasps and convert her rare talents to the Chimera. Maze, knowing the level of danger and evil she’s about to face, cannot let anyone she knows and loves to aid her in this epic showdown with her handler. Maze underestimates Steve’s infamous abilities until she sees them first hand herself. She may have rare abilities, but Steve is a forced to be reckoned with when someone tries to steal away some he so desperately wants.
Erin Kellison’s The Reveler Series just keeps getting better and better. Darkness Falls only gave us a tiny glimpse of what the dreamscape can really do. Yet, our horizons are broadened by leaps and bounds in Lay Me Down. The Darkside isn’t just a dreamscape, but a where you worst nightmares call home. The dark world that is the Reve is explained in greater detail and draws you in even deeper than you were before in Darkness Falls. Maisie’s character is a strong willed free spirit. She knows when to say no and what she wants out of her life, Freedom. She knows she has rare and unique gifts, but wants to use them to help others connect in the Reve. Steve is nearly her opposite. Though he may rival her in his unique abilities, he’s more reserved and calculating. He doesn’t rush into anything without a clear and concise plan. Yet, with it comes to Maze and his unyielding attraction to her all bets are off. Kellison has hit another home run with this latest book in the Reveler series and I cannot wait for the next installment in June 2014.
This second book in Kellison's "Reveler" series follows Maisie (Jordan's sister - yes the one who got her tangled up in all the hell she went through originally) and Steve (Rook's boss who yes is the one who set Rook after Jordan originally) as they try to figure out a way to survive the insanity that is enveloping their lives. Something Steve is very used to handling and Maisie is very good at creating.
Kellison doesn't waste much time on the development--a lot of that happened in the first book and really these guys have their hands full. It suits both their personalities though, Maisie's impetuousness and Steve's obsessiveness. And while Steve, much like Rook, would be considered all kinds of stalker in any other setting, it makes sense here. Maisie REALLY gets over her head and she needs someone who is thinking three steps ahead of her to keep her from diving too deep. In turn Steve needs someone who sees past the exterior and can make him smile.
I wasn't as fond of Maisie as I was of Jordan, she took a lot of risks and did a lot of things rashly. And I didn't quite forgive her what happened with her sister in the first book. Steve....I was so happy to learn more about him. He was a bit of an intimidating enigma when dealing with Rook, but here he was certain that Maisie was fully capable, but fiercely determined to prove why he needed to stay near her.
You do have to read the first book first, this isn't a book to just jump into and hope they explain. While the events of DARKNESS FALLS are gone over, this is squarely centered on Maisie and Steve who are experienced Revelers and thus don't waste time on basics. Kellison wrote these more as serial novellas that interconnected to a larger framework. They don't work by themselves nor out of order.
I received an ARC of this book from the Publisher, via Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.<?b>
I got into this series because of Darkness Falls in Dark and Deadly: Eight Bad Boys of Paranormal Romance, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Maise has been working in the illegal side of Reve as a courier in an attempt to earn enough money to start her own business. Steve is the head of Chimera, an organization attempting to police the Reve.
What is the Reve? It is dreamscapes-personal and collective, and with the right hardware, or the right talent it is possible to link up with others to share dreams.
Honestly, I did not get quite the same buzz from this as I did Darkness Falls, because I knew what the setting was and some of what would happen. There were still a few new surprises that opened this world up though, plenty to keep the reader intrigued and wanting the next book.
Maise is such a fun character; she's strong, tough, practical, and vulnerable. Steve though, he's the mystery man. He has all kinds of complicated layers and secrets. I can really see Maise and Steve, as different from each other as they are, doing well together.
But Vincent must have some pretty serious skills and secrets too, and I'm really hoping the next book is his.
This fast-paced novella gives the reader a slice of what looks to be a very complex world. There isn't any of that onerous info dumping, so you really need to read these in order to understand what is happening. Thoroughly enjoyable, I am giving this book 4 stars.
Lay Me Down features Maisie – Jordan’s little sister from Darkness Falls. Remember her? She dragged Jordan to her first Rêve, got in trouble and was rescued by Agent Rook. It was obvious to everyone that this was not Maisie’s first Rêve and that she had some major talent. Where Agent Rook got to work with Jordan, Maisie got handed off to his boss, Special Agent Steven Coll.
As I mentioned, this series needs to be read in order. A good deal of what the Rêve – dream world – is all about is told in the first book. Lay Me Down picks up where Darkness Falls leaves off. All of the characters from Darkness Falls continue their story lines here in Lay Me Down. This is a serialized series.
I had a much better understanding about what was going on in this book. Though there was some further world building, the characters were familiar. Maisie and Special Agent Coll are a fun couple. Both of them continue to deny that they are attracted to each other right to the minute of the first kiss. Combustible! That was the only somewhat predictable thing in this labyrinth of a story.
Special Agent Coll isn’t exactly what he says he is. Well, he is but, he is really so much more. Maisie, we know is so much more than she lets everyone see, but there was some doubt about which way she would go. Money and power? OR Morality and potential love?
When we found out who the bad guy is – now that was a huge twist. It will be interesting to see how that is going to end. *sigh*
Well, I am off to the next one. I will say, if it grabs you, it won’t let you go. Much like Rêve. Hmmm . . .
I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
When I read book 1 in this series, I remember LOVING the world but wanting more closure on the relationship. Well, wait. Not closure, exactly. I wanted more, umm, time spent with Jordan and Rook after they'd finally realized they were meant for one another.
I'm still loving the world -- the idea of shared dreaming opens up so many intriguing possibilities for future books -- and I didn't feel that this book ended as abruptly. In other words, total win!
As an aside, with the book clocking in at just over 100 pages, the relationship does move quickly. It definitely worked for this particular story because Steve and Maisie were both so *irritated* by one another that you KNEW there was something brewing there. Overall, I enjoy fast paced romances, so I had no issues with it. I'm just, you know, pointing it out.
Anywho. Here we have Maisie and Steve. Maisie is Jordan's wild sister who's managed to get herself in a not-so-fun spot with her ability to navigate the dreamscape. Steve is her handler (for lack of a better word) and he's hiding just as many secrets as Maisie is. Which, naturally, makes their partnership rife with tension.
We got a few answers to who and what are behind the weirdness Jordan and Rook found in the first book. We got to see some of the abilities that make the Lane sisters so coveted by the various groups out there. The world is getting bigger and the answers are only leading to more questions. I can't wait to see what's uncovered next.
Maisie Lane is able to navigate sleeps vast dreamwaters and she makes easy money as a courier delivering packages from one dream to another. She knows her employers are on the shadier side of the law but doesn’t worry about it. Her sister believes she is living just for the pleasure of the moment. This one picks up shortly after the first book but can still be read as a standalone but will be enjoyed much more if readers read the first one first. The characters are well written and intriguing and makes for a story that is hard to put down. The world building is complex and makes for a read that is fun. It is full of action and the reader is never sure just what will happen next. This is a paranormal book that is very different from other paranormal books and stands very well on its own.
Well, as I speculated at the end of my review of book one, Darkness Falls, the characters in book two benefited enormously from having been given a 100 page head start in book one. Maisie and Steve don't require nearly as much time to rev up their motors - only about 20% of the book, rather than 68%, as in book one. The plot is better constructed, too, and things make a bit more sense in the second installment of this series. Book three is planned for June of 2014, and my guess is that it will feature Harlen Fawkes, a Chimera Marshal first introduced in book one. It's anyone's guess who his romantic interest might be.
Lay Me Down is a bit shorter than book one, but the characters accomplished pretty much everything they'd set out to do. The only real issue is that we still don't know just what the circumstances of Steve's childhood were. Supposedly that will be wrapped up in book three, since presumably this is tied to the big reveal about the main villain of the piece.
On the whole, the series thus far is entertaining enough, with the occasional spark of witty dialogue or brief flurry of action to liven up the journey. If you're thrilled by the idea of dream walkers, though, nothing compares to Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dream Hunters, who are part of her Dark-Hunter universe. She sets the bar pretty high there, but be warned: once you set foot in her world, you might never want to return.
I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
Lay Me Down picks up where Darkness Falls (book #1 of the REVELERS series) leaves off and gives us the story of Steve and Maisie.
Special Agent Steve Coll has been given the job of recruiting Maisie for Chimera , the organization that polices shared dreams. But also has secrets that he keeps from his employer that he has no intention of letting anyone know about. Maisie Lane has special abilities that she uses to navigate dreams as a courier effortlessly traveling from one persons dream to another. It these abilities that led to her seeing unspeakable things. Evil that should not have been seen. As well as cause trouble for her sister (from book 1).
I liked this book much better then the first one. I wasn't fond of Rook and that kind of dragged the book down for me. However I enjoyed this couple a lot. This book is full of intrigue, heat, adventure, unexpected surprises and a dangerous new enemy. It's fast-paced, well written with a story that just takes you on a thrill ride. The heat between Steve and Maisie is great. This book is a must read for sure.
I highly recommend this book and series!!!
The Reveler Series includes eight parts:
Darkness Falls (Reveler 1) Lay Me Down (Reveler 2) Darksider (Reveler 3) Night's Deep Hush (Reveler 4) Bring Me A Dream (Reveler 5) Delirium (Reveler 6) The Sandman (Reveler 7) The Scrape (Reveler 8)
Steven Coll is different from most people. He has hid it so well that he is in the top ranks of the Chimera as a recuriter. He knows that Maisie Lane is powerful, more powerful than most Revelers, she drifts effortlessly Darkside, the dream world, in and out of people's dreams, not always the Agora - the place policed by the Chimera and set up as safe shared dreaming areas. He finds her 'bothersome', someone he can't help wanting. But he's different, and with her in the Chimera he must soon move on.
Maisie Lane knows her sister is a Chimera, and that she needs to get away from the powerful people she has been working for, but that doesn't mean she is joining the Chimera, dreams were made for mischief snd shouldn't have police. She is stuck with Steve at the momemt, boring Steve-o but she has to find a way out by herself.
This is the second installment of this series and while good, it moved a little slow for me. I kept getting to easily distracted from it. I loved the characters, their interactions was very believable and intense. As this installment unfolds you keep wanting to know more about Steve's past. Then the game changer moment makes you go 'Okay... didn't see that one coming.'
I give this one four stars for progessing the story line and throwing in the twist that makes you race for number three in this series
Maisie Lane has special abilities and she has used them to help her navigate sleeps dreamwaters as a courier effortlessly travelling from one dream to another. It is also these abilities that almost caused her sister to be captured and led to her seeing unspeakable evil.
Special Agent Steve Coll has been instructed to recruit Maisie for Chimera , the organization that polices shared dreams. Steve is more than even his employer know and he has no intention of showing Chimera or anyone his hidden talents.
With the clock ticking Steve must convince Maisie to trust him and allow him to help but Maisie is not in a co-operating mood. As they edge closer to danger Steve is becoming more determined that he will keep Maisie safe and get her away from this life and the people she works for. Maisie knows Steve won't leave her to deal with her mess alone and secretly she is grateful. With unspeakable evil threatening their very survival Steve will need to use all his abilities and hope Maisie will still be with him when it is all over.
You will find yourself quickly immersed in the pages of Lay Me Down! The storyline and characters will have you turning each page anticipating what is to come, I would definitely recommend this book and series!
