Toronto Thunder #2

Taught by the Coach

Rate this book
I’ve been secretly in love with my best friend’s dad for months. And now, I’m his intern…

If the head coach of the Toronto Thunder hockey team knew about the dirty fantasies I scribble in my journal, he never would’ve offered me the internship that puts us in such close proximity every day.

Shane Ferguson is twenty-four years older than me, so the fact that I'm obsessed with how sexy and stern he is needs to stay a secret.

But then one night, my journal accidentally falls out of my bag in Shane’s office.
And he reads it.

All of it.

When he calls me into a meeting, I think he’s going to fire me. Instead, I learn that my feelings and fantasies aren’t exactly one-sided. That Shane is going to make all my dirty fantasies come true. That’s he’s going to teach me to be his good girl, just like I wished for.

Now we just have to figure out how to tell my best friend that she’s not the only one who calls him Daddy…

4.5 stars - Their mutual adoration societies cross paths in brilliant fashion. Sadie Brennan and Shane Ferguson have one intensely hot story. It's Alyson's best insta-love so far! 🔥🩵🔥💦🔥💜

Shane is looking at me as though I’m some precious thing, something to be cherished. As though he wants me the way I’ve wanted him for all these months.
-- Sadie Brennan

Adding in the extra sizzle from the bonus epilogue not only increases the filth quotient, but also my need for relief. Ho-ly cow! And beneath all that is a fun, OTT tale about a young woman and her bestie's dad, or Daddy as he's known to Sadie. I love the low angst, high heat and taboo nature of the book.

I typically enjoy Alyson Archer’s books; however, this book was just too much for me.

I don’t mind most age gap stories, but the age gap in Taught by the coach was too big of a gap for me. Sadie is only 20 and Shane is in his 40s. Both characters used “daddy” too many times. I read the novella all the way through but if it had been a full length novel, I would have DNF’ed it.

I do think there will be a lot of readers where Taught by the Coach is exactly what they love to read.

Overall, it was a nice novella. I will still read more from Alyson Archer.

First time reading from this author. It felt like all they did is talk about or have sex didn’t really feel the connection. Also confusing bc they never used condoms and mention they want to get pregnant then in the last chapter it’s 4 months later and he pulls out during her fertile times.

Somehow this felt like it was a *slightly* slower burn than the first book ( Claimed by the Center ), though it's only 114 pages so obviously it's not really that slow ;) Trust me, once Sadie and Shane get going, they really get going.

Taught by the Coach is once again, exactly what it says it will be (and what Ms Archer says she wants to write)--an age-gap instalove steamy-as-heck romance--this time between a professional hockey coach and his daughter's best friend. If daddy kink isn't your thing, you might want to steer clear--personally I think it kind of hits different when the person calling him "Daddy" is besties with a person who has actually called him that for all of her 21 years--and Sadie and Shane really lean into the kink.

If you've read the first book in the series, you'll appreciate the *ahem* slight hypocrisy of Shane giving his daughter and her *only* 14 years older boyfriend grief about their relationship while he lusted after her best friend in secret, but of course you don't have to have read that one to enjoy this book--or the scene where Lilah and Kincaid find out. ;) (Don't worry, that scene is actually pretty low angst, all things considered. No friendships are harmed in the course of this book.)

Rating: 4 stars / B

4.25 stars. Shane, the male hockey coach lead, was shocked by his daughter’s romance with one of his significantly older players but he finds himself drawn to her best friend, Sadie, the female lead, with an even greater age gap. Determined not to act on his attraction, especially whilst she’s completing a traineeship with his organisation, he’s shocked to find her journal which details her fantasies about him.

Sadie is certain her crush is entirely one sided until Shane discusses her accidentally left behind journal. Initially embarrassed beyond belief, she’s then thrilled to find Shane wants a relationship with her. But how will her best friend react?

This novella is dual POV, well written and edited, and a sweet and steamy, age gap, best friend’s dad, contemporary romance. I was amused by both characters’ initial determination to ignore the intense attraction between them. I enjoyed Sadie’s coping mechanism and appreciated how it brought them together. I enjoyed Shane’s focus and care for Sadie. I enjoyed the steamy intimate scenes and playfulness of some interactions. I appreciated how Shane’s hypocrisy around his daughter’s relationship was addressed head on. I enjoyed the sweet and steamy ending.

I really enjoy this series, and recommend reading them.

She really should be off limits, because of the age gap, and her close friendship with Shane's daughter, Lilah, but his insta-love and her flirting is impossible for him/them to resist.
They do what they can to keep their relationship a secret, but, it's no use.

You don't have to read these in order, but I personally recommend it. I look forward to the next one in this series. I received a complimentary copy of this book (thank you) and voluntarily leave my review.

This sizzling age-gap romance between a shy college student and her best friend’s dad brings a whole new meaning to "heating up the ice rink"! Sadie might seem reserved on the outside, but the dirty fantasies in her private journal—all about Shane, her BFF’s irresistibly rugged hockey coach father, prove that still waters run deep. When that journal accidentally ends up in Shane’s office and he discovers exactly what’s been on Sadie’s mind… well, let’s just say all bets are off. Not only does Shane reciprocate her feelings, he’s determined to bring every one of those fantasies to life. The sexual tension in this book is off the charts! The author masterfully builds up the chemistry between these two, and when the tension finally snaps, it’s pure fire. The dirty talk alone is absolutely next level. Shane’s commanding presence paired with Sadie’s submissive streak takes their dynamic into deliciously taboo territory, and while the whole "daddy" kink made me pause (especially since he’s her best friend’s actual dad), I can’t deny it pushed all the right buttons. I also appreciated how the inevitable "cat’s out of the bag" moment was handled. Instead of dragging out the drama or going down a predictable path, the revelation was met with stunned acceptance, which felt refreshingly real. If you’re in the mood for an intense, steamy romance with a forbidden twist, this one will definitely get your heart racing!

TAUGHT BY THE COACH is the second book in the Toronto Thunder series, and this time it's Sadie and Shane's turn. You don't have to have read the first novella, but it does help. Shane is Lilah's dad and was upset when she and Kincaid got together because of the 14-year age gap. However, when he sees Sadie again, he realises he was jealous... because he wants her and there is an even bigger age gap!

This was a great read that I couldn't put down. I loved how they wanted each other, but were convinced the other one wasn't interested. Sadie writes everything in her journal in an attempt to stop obsessing, which is a brilliant idea until she misplaces it and Shane finds it!

I loved the interplay between our two main characters. Both of them give the other what they want of their own free will, and happily, it coincides with what they also want. I also adored how Kincaid didn't let Shane off the hook too easily, but he brought it up and addressed it head-on.

This was a really smooth-flowing easy novella to read. Light on the Daddy kink but still there, so if you don't like that, be warned. Another fantastic addition to the Toronto Thunder series and definitely recommended by me.

Every couple of months Alyson Archer has released a tantalizing super charged novella for her adoring audience. I am her adoring audience. And I hope this release schedule never changes. Unless she wants to give us a release every month. I wouldn’t hate that, but I also won't be greedy and will remain thankful for our current release schedule. As soon as I was done with Claimed by the Center, book one in the Toronto Thunder series, I was dying to get my hands on Taught by the Coach. Let me assure you, Taught by the Coach DID NOT DISAPPOINT.

This book has all the fun push and pull of undeniable tension between two adults who refuse to admit their desires in fear of 1. Their feelings not being reciprocated and 2. How much it would complicate their lives. Nothing says danger and deceit like keeping a hot and heavy relationship secret from your best friend… because that guy she’s been pressing you to tell her about? It’s her dad.

If you’re needing a spicy hockey romance(he’s the coach) that you can breeze through in an afternoon, Taught by the Coach is your book. You can look forward to:
- Age gap
- Insta love
- Best friend’s dad
- Secret relationship
- Forbidden Workplace relationship

If you haven’t read book one in this series, start there. It’s his daughter, and she’s more than willing to be Claimed by the Center.

Ms. Archer gives us another sizzling romance that sets the pages on fire and melts the ice. This forbidden, best friend's dad and age-gap romance is entertaining, full of dirty talk and one that you will need a cold drink while you read it.
Sadie is a shy and inexperienced college student who has been crushing on her best friend's father, Shane, for years. Her feelings are so strong that she has a journal where she writes all her fantasies about him and what she wants him to do to her. Needing an internship, she ends up working for Shane but tries to keep her head on work and not what she wants to do with him. Little does she know he has the same feelings and fantasizes about her as well. Finding her book, Shane knows he shouldn't read it but he can't stop himself, and this starts the fire that burns between the two of them. The title Taught by the Coach is perfect because that is exactly what Shane does.

Not quite insta love story. Sadie is best friend to Shane's daughter, so she has been around as a teenager. It is now six years later. He is 24 years her senior and discovers her thoughts and feelings by finding and reading her journal.
There are parts I liked about this short story, but there are parts I didn't. Stories of this nature tend to be 'wham bam' types, but this is Daddy type and overbearing and overused. He refers to himself as pervy due to his thoughts about Sadie. Their sex scenes, due to Daddy references being uttered in every sentence, are pervy and gauche, rather than erotic and sexy. Plus rather than adding to the sexy nature, it actually takes away from it.
The theme and characters are good. The distraction is in the repetative narrative and for this reason my review marking is 3.5 stars.

romance father of mob best friend.
Shane is back in town to coach the local hockey team and get closer to his daughter. He didn't expect to completely fall for his daughter Sadie's best friend, so when she finds herself without an internship he can't help but give her one at the risk of seeing her every day.
Sadie is a shy and insecure young girl who fell in love with her best friend's father. She can't imagine that these feelings are shared so she confides in a notebook, until the day she forgets her notebook in Shane's office.
Will they be able to face their age difference as well as Shane's daughter...

The pining *chefs kiss*. I adored the fact that we got to see them meet months before the story, meaning it’s been building and building.

Sadie is so sweet and I liked her a lot, which was a surprise because I expected her to be more naive but she just needs her directions (iykyk). She was a little unhinged and obsessed but honestly, I loved her even more just for that.

And Shane, that man had it bad! Love to see it honestly. Could not get enough of the diary scene, was literally skipping paragraphs and having to come back, that’s how exciting it was.
And the spice was hoooot, the mouth on that man was good af.

I'm gonna start off by saying I probably shouldn't have chose this book to read as one of the tags is 'daddy' and let me tell you, if you are at all opposed to the daddy kink thing then this one isn't for ya. This is absolutely my own personal preference and by no means is it negative toward the author or even the book really, I just am totally grossed out by it. I might have been fine if it was once or twice but it is over the top Daddy stuff. Other then that, I thought it was a cute story and like the characters. I may check out more by this author but I will be more conscious of the tags. :).

This is a really steamy, fast paced, well written story from a new to me author. And I loved it!

Sadie and Shane fall for each other the very moment they meet, but they both hide their feelings. That is until he offers her an internship and finds out that these feelings are mutual.

Favourite quotes:
- “Mine forever.”
- “That’s my good girl,” he says, his voice rough. “You did so good. So, so good, sunshine. Are you okay?”
- The knowledge that I might’ve just f#cked a baby into Sadie is like fireworks going off inside of me.

Taught by the Coach is the second book in the Toronto Thunder series. Like the first book, this is an instalove, age-gap romance. Although this time around, the age gap is much larger (around 25 years). As is often the case with this kind of book, if this was real, there would be some serious red flags, but as a fun read, I don't mind that too much.
The storyline for this book was hinted at in the first book, so I was looking forward to finding out how it would unfold. These books are quick reads with plenty of spice. You won't get depth of characters or convoluted storylines, but they do make for a quick, satisfying read.

If you guys still aren’t reading Alyson Archer’s novellas, WHAT ARE YOU DOING???? They’re so binge-able and extremely HOT!!!! 🥵 This one may actually be her hottest yet. I was quite literally shaking while reading this.

Shane, Shane, Shane…. What can I say about Daddy Shane? A hot millionaire who is obsessed with the FMC Who is half his age and plans to make every single one of her wildest fantasies come true when he finds out she’s never even kissed a guy before? Sign me up.

The Toronto Storm series of Novellas are perfect for times when you just need a quick little spicy pallet cleanser or if you just feel like binging a quick hockey romance when you get the itch.

This quick read is told from both sides and is sweet and Steamy. They both tried to keep their feelings to themselves, but when secrets were discovered there was no stopping them, even with the angst that would follow. I liked seeing them together and the acceptance of ones actions, it's the 1st book from this series that I have read and although I have missed previous events from book one, I think I did ok without that information.

This was…adequate.
So much of the dialogue seemed copied from the first book, and the chemistry felt really forced. The whole “daddy” thing felt like it was there just to be tropey.
The part that amused me most was how she’d be like “moving to a new city and coaching a professional hockey team must be so hard on you,” and he’s thinking “wow she gets it no one but her understands my life” and I’m like I’m pretty sure any of us would assume you’re stressed with all that, but please don’t jump our bones, daddy.
This was a huge disappointment after how good the first book was.

This is book 2 in Toronto Thunder series. Tropes: hockey coach, best friend's dad, age gap (24), and innocent FMC. Shane is a dirty talking "daddy" and I loved every second of it. Sadie knows what she wants and it's Shane. The story was great. I enjoyed the interactions between the main characters and side characters. A fun sexy read.

I just love age-gap romance. Add in some taboo, and well, squirm!

I love Sadie's fantasies! Have you had similar? Shane has taken the lead role! And, based on my reading, I'm sure I'd be clenching my legs together too!

The dialogue Ms. Archer produced, was, OMG dirty awesomeness!

I loved dominant Shane, and loved that this was fiction so Shane could do what he did! YUM!

This second book of the Toronto Thunder series certainly generated some sizzling lightning!

Missing Journal Found

When Sadie is called into her boss's office, she doesn't expect to find that he has her missing journal. The naughty things written surprising caught Shane's attention and gave him permission to go after what he has been wanting. The journey getting there was lighthearted, steamy, and overall very interesting to read.
