Of Sands and Tides is completely different to what I would generally read, but I’m always happy to try something new and I have enjoyed losing myself in Georgianna’s story.

Georgianna is an interesting character leading an interesting but risky life as a special agent for the Ministry of the Arcane. She certainly isn’t one to shy away from danger! This she proves repeatedly in the eight adventures featured in this book. Each is as compelling, chilling, and suspenseful as the next. I found myself easily captivated and immersed in each case. Perfect escapism!

If you’re looking for something to help you to forget about reality for a while, then this is perfect for you.

Captain Georgi Forsythe works for the British Ministry of the Arcane, where she has to deal with events that are rather unusual. Following an incident with ancient god Nyarlathotep in the Valley of the Kings, this story collection takes us from ancient Luxor to the Loch Ness of 1932 whilst Georgi investigates lots of esoteric practices from the 1930’s onwards.

The stories combine stiff-upper lip sensibilities with creatures of myth and legend. Georgi’s a great character, simultaneously dealing with ancient gods and the powers given to her by them as well as the bureaucracy of the British armed forces. Think Agent Carter meets H. P. Lovecraft. An easily absorbing and fast read. Great fun!

This delightful collection is what I would call 'jolly good fun' in Captain Georgi speak. A romp of arcane occurrences and supernatural dangers are all summarily dealt with by our intrepid investigator in a thoroughly entertaining manner.

Proper escapism.
