Before reading this series (and especially this book), I never would have imagined just how well mafia and medical romance could work together, but these books are a treat--treats that can be read as standalones, but that I would recommend reading in order for maximum enjoyment.
Day Shift follows Anastasia and Conan. She is a mafia princess who ends up in the ER after an accident. She goes in a coma, and when she wakes up is affected by amnesia. Conan, on the other hand, is the nurse that takes care of her, and who is inexplicably drawn and protective of her. Their lives, however, are more intertwined than either of them realize 👀
Thanks to Anastasia's status as a mafia princess, the mafia romance vibes are prominent in this book, adding a touch of darkness that I found captivating and addicting. This only added to the delicious tension between her and Conan, a pairing I absolutely loved! All the elements in this story flow into one another with seamless ease.
If you love a romance that has some soft dark romance vibes with strong characters who aren't afraid to explore (we have a threesome scene!) and a man who falls first and HARD, then this is the book for you!

Day Shift is Book 2 of the Broken Heroes Series and is the first book of this series I have read.
I also feel that this book can successfully be read as a standalone as Evie recounts various events from Book 1, so you're never at a disadvantage.
The story follows Anatasia, who crashes into a tree and wakes with no memories... she meets Conan (a nurse from the hospital she is taken to) and his family... there is, of course, a back story and a twisty plot (her powerful family having a large part to play, too) as Ana tries to regain her memory.
I adored Ana. Considering her powerful family, she is very kind and considerate and very down-to-earth. I did laugh at her librariab image mind as she really isn't like that - well, not in totality.
Conan is a great guy, too, though boy did he fall hard pretty quickly. He is in Ana's corner, and it's great to see that as she absolutely needs more people there.
There is 🌶 in this book, but it isn't the focal point of the story. It has an actual story and plot that showcases what a great story this is.
These are the kinds of books I enjoy!
I haven't read Book 1 yet, but I will absolutely be doing that as soon as I can as I'm intrigued to read the full story of what happened to Sam from her perspective.
It's a brilliant book that takes hold of your mind and grips you until the end!

The blend of mafia and medical romance in this book was chef’s kiss!
DAY SHIFT is the second standalone book in the Broken Heroes series that follows the three Thorin brothers, Atticus, Conan and Braxton, who work in the ER. Book 2 follows Conan, who falls for a mysterious woman who winds up in the ER after crashing her car during a high speed chase. Who is she, and why was she entering the estate of the Volkovi Notchi, the Russian mafia clan that has a bone to pick with the Thorin brothers?
Too bad that even once mystery girl wakes up, she has amnesia.
However, we readers know exactly what is going on because we meet Anastasia before the crash and let me tell you, I adored her character from the first page! Sh’s fierce and carves out some independence from her family’s stifling expectations for herself through sheer will and stubbornness. And her attitude doesn’t wane even when she’s suffering from the memory loss. She knows what she wants, who she wants, and she goes for it. Conan, on his part, is both a golden retriever and a passionate, determined man who will move heaven and hell for his girl and his loved ones. He’d even face three different mafia families who are all hell bent on ruining Anastasia’s life by using her as a pawn.
Together, Anastasia and Conan are quite the couple, capable of both tenderness and steam. While I was rooting for them and loved their scenes together, I also very much enjoyed Lucian’s character and his no-strings attached friends with benefits relationship with Anastasia. The threesome that came out of it is one of the best I’ve read!

Im obsessed with mafia romance.. and apparently I’m loving the medical add ons as well! This is perfect for lovers of romance, he falls hard and first, and protective MMC.
I read Night Shift a couple of months ago and I loved Atticus and Sam’s story, but I have to admit Conan and Anastasia have stolen my heart. I absolutely loved the dynamic between the two. Conan was the absolute sweetest bear ever. Muscles and tattoos, all tough exterior but deep inside he would do absolutely anything for Anastasia, his angel. Don’t even get me started on the music addition to the story, swoon! I was so excited to learn more about the Thorin brothers and the introduction to new characters. I am looking forward to more and more about these sexy brothers!
The plot was captivating and the spice was perfect for those that are looking for a little bit of sauciness in their books! I’m not usually one to enjoy the love triangle aspect but Evie James planned this out perfectly!

Hands down, one of the best mafia romances I've ever read, not being biased, but everyone who has read this will know what I'm talking about 🥵
I was fortunate enough to be part of Evie James street team and loved everyone in the team. Everyone was so sweet and supportive 💕
I'm not sure where to start. Conan, my latest fictional crush, oh my, who wouldn't want Conan as their significant other?He embodies masculinity, kindness, attractiveness, allure, protectiveness, and readiness to do anything for his girl, he has all those qualities. 🙈
Conan Thorin, together with his brothers Atticus and Braxton, works at St John's Hospital, where they met Anastasia after she was in a devastating car accident that caused her to lose her memory. The Thorin brothers were extremely kind in watching over her until she could recollect her memories. As the days passed, Conan's feelings for her became more stronger. All he wanted to do was to protect her.
Once Anastasia remembered who she was, the Thorin brothers found out her real identity and discovered the difficult circumstances she had been in. They were willing to do anything to protect her from her mafia family. The men she works with at the club also came to know her true identity. They were also willing to go to great lengths to keep her safe.
I loved the closeness the Thorin brothers had. They might give each other hell, but they would protect one another no matter what. Anastasia, on the other hand, I got to know her real personality throughout the book. She was strong, badass, independent, and brave, but she had a sweet side to her too.
My favourite part was the spicy scenes. Boy, oh boy, was it spicy 🌶🌶🌶🌶. Chapter 34, my reaction was literally 🥵😯😈🙈 🫠
Evie, let me express how incredible the story was. The level of detail and quality of writing in it were outstanding. The medical terms you've used, it's like I was so immersed in the story I couldn't put it down. I love it so much. Now I need to read Night Shift and can't wait for the next book 😍😍

I know I have a tendency to rate books high. I don’t read a whole lot that I hate. I thought long and hard before I rated this book because I didn’t want to give an inflated rating. But I honestly couldn’t see myself giving this book less than five stars. There was so much I enjoyed about this book. It is honestly one that I flew through because I didn’t want to put it down but I really didn’t want it to end.
Day Shift is the second book in the series. It, along with the first book, Night Shift, revolves around a group of brothers and their interactions with a Mafia family. Day Shift centers around Conan, the heavily tattooed, guitar playing nurse, and Anastasia, the mafia princess that is stuck in an arranged marriage. By fate they find each other and are pulled deeper into the world that is run by mafia families.
Conan is the perfect type of MMC. He appears rough and intimidating at first glance, with his substantial size and the tattoos covering his body. But he is soft, loving, kind, and has incredible bed side manor. And how can you not love someone with excellent taste in Irish whiskey. Anastasia is the type of FMC that your heart aches for, forced into an engagement by her mafia family.
I love a mafia story. I love an amnesia story. I love a story where the MMC will burn down the world for a woman. This story has all of that, as well as a family that you want to be a part of and a family that you want to see crumble. It is entertaining from the start and continues throughout. I would definitely recommend reading Night Shift first because this book sums up a lot of the plot from that book and continues some of those connections. Day Shift is definitely spicy, but the majority of the spice occurs in the second half of the book. So hang in and hold on. I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a good romance with an action filled mafia story line thrown in.

First, I’d like to thank the author for the review copy of this book. I loved Ana and Conan’s story!
Anastasia has always played by the rules her family has laid before her. She’s been shipped to various countries, handed off to different relatives in childhood, and more recently, bound by contract to be married, all to strengthen mafia alliances. When she is the victim in a catastrophic car accident, with the help of Conan, whose care she has been under since she was brought into St. John’s Hospital, thousands of miles from home, she’ll have to piece her world back together, one fragmented memory at a time. But is it one worth returning to?
I’m usually slow to warm to a book, and I have to give it a good 50 pages to feel pulled in, but Evie had me hooked on Anastasia and Conan’s story in the first ten.
I’ve read Night Shift, the first book in the Broken Heroes series, but Day Shift is my new favorite. I loved all of the different factors at play between Anastasia’s past, Conan’s internal struggles, the accident, and the building relationship between the two with the conflicts ensuing there as well. There’s so much at play in a munch on popcorn, HAVE to see how this plays out kind of way!
Evie’s characters are complex and sympathetic, and they all have a bit of lovable spunk to them. Add a touch of dark romance, and even a little why choose moment in there, and this book was really giving everything. Conan is a true golden retriever with a playboy exterior, and even though the playboy MMC is not who I tend to root for, Evie knows how to pack on the lovable traits! Who can resist the nurse musician combo!
I was here for Ana and Conan’s happily ever after, and I’m looking forward to book three!

We get a strong sophomore installment as we dive into the youngest of the Thorin brothers story! You don't have to read Night Shift first to understand this one but I highly recommend it, as we have some carryover of events from the first and of course Atticus and Sam from the first back are back (which I was so happy to see them have such a large role).
Anastasia is a pim and proper librarian by day and a co owner to a risqué night club in the evenings. She's also an incognito mafia princess with an arranged marriage she wants no part of. She gets in a car crash, has temporary amnesia, but warms to the kind hearted, tattooed gentle giant nurse, Conan. They begin to have feelings but soon rhat and all their safety is put in jeopardy the truth of her past threatens to destroy them.
Evie does it again with creating striking characters that are so fully realized immediately from the page. Seeing how Conan is affected by Ana and how he softens with her is so touching. His self assurance and slight cockiness gives him an edgy endearment that's perfect! The dynamics of the brothers is some of the best stuff to watch play out! Ana and Conan's relationship and spice is not as slow burn as his brother's in the first book but these two are just as sparkling together.
The mafia suspense is well balanced to the romance and you get invested in this found family and true family of characters! Can't wait to see Braxton's story and what he has to reveal! This trio of brothers can't be missed!

We get a strong sophomore installment as we dive into the youngest of the Thorin brothers story! You don't have to read Night Shift first to understand this one but I highly recommend it, as we have some carryover of events from the first and of course Atticus and Sam from the first back are back (which I was so happy to see them have such a large role).
Anastasia is a pim and proper librarian by day and a co owner to a risqué night club in the evenings. She's also an incognito mafia princess with an arranged marriage she wants no part of. She gets in a car crash, has temporary amnesia, but warms to the kind hearted, tattooed gentle giant nurse, Conan. They begin to have feelings but soon rhat and all their safety is put in jeopardy the truth of her past threatens to destroy them.

Where do I begin!?! Evie did an amazing job writing the second book to the Broken Heroes Series!! This book is full of all type of feelings!! One minute you’re crying then next you’re falling in love with Conan! HES TOO SWEET FOR THIS WORLD!!!
Character development was SO SO good! I really enjoyed being able to read this as a standalone first and then going back to read Night Shift! It wasn’t necessary but definitely helped with the overview of some other characters and explained some events mentioned in Day Shift that happened in Night Shift!! Plus I fell in love with Evie’s writing EXTREMELY quick, she had me hooked by the time i met Nikolai.
Anastasia (Angel) is not your typical mafia princess - she’s mostly in the dark about all her mafia family affairs, until she’s forced to marry into another mob family so her real father can take over the NY crime syndicate… She’s a freakin badass chicka who knows what she wants, but only after everything is about to be taken from her, will she get what she wants??
Conan!!! UGGH THIS MAN, your typical bad boy turned to ‘Touch her and 💀’!!! I would die for his character probably as much as he would die for Angel. Also loved how his appearance changed towards the end of the book to match the model on the front cover😍 COOPER BLACK IS THE MAN!

This is book 2 in the Broken Hero series. Each story is an interconnected standalone. I do suggest reading book one in order to understand the characters a bit better but you can read this one without reading Night Shift( book 1).
***I listened to this book on audio. the Narrators are Theo and Madi @theo_and_madi. Their performance was intense but a the same time, their voices are so compatible and I fell in love with their voice performance. Theo has that deep timber in his voice and is able to pull off multiple voice impressions as he did throughout this story. Madi is also just as brilliant. Her multiple voices were beautifully done and her little giggle that she throws in every now and then is infectious. I loved their work together as Conan and Anastasia. It was great to be back in the world of the Thorin brothers!
The detailed writing helps you immerse yourself into the story and makes you feel like you are right there experiencing it along with your characters. The suspense keeps you on edge, the banter keeps you wanting more, and the array of delicious men you will meet will make you swoon.
I throughly enjoyed the side characters and the chemistry between Conan and Anastasia.
The way Conan talks to Anastasia makes me melt.
From the provocative banter, the cute nicknames, and the declaration of love had me hooked from the very beginning.
I laughed out loud, (Murphy... if you know you know 🤣), I rooted for the characters, and I felt the love Conan has for Anastasia.

When I recieved this book I was so excited to read it. This is a medical story that also deals with the mafia. The first book in this series is Night Shift is about Atticus and it’s slow burn but in my opinion you don’t have to read it first because this is his tattooed brother Atticus story and how he fell hard for the mafia Princess who is a prim and proper librarian who is co-owner of a risqué nightclub. She is also in an arranged marriage that she wants nothing to do with it. When she meets Conan she has just been in an accident and has no memory and falls for Conan. The thing is when you’re a mafia Princess you’re gonna have someone looking for her. Whether it be here family or her fiancé. And now you have Conan who will go to any lengths to protect Anastasia.
This book had a plot that keeps you hooked from beginning to end and what is going to happen. The other thing I want to mention the author put together an amazing playlist and I would strongly recommend you play it. This will make the experience with this book more interesting. Music is the one way Conan can get his feelings across instead of having the words to say them. Music is a big part of this story and I can honestly say that you will enjoy this book from start to finish. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series. Evie James did a great job with this book not only creating a memorable group of characters but able to write a beautiful story so please don’t miss reading this.

I can't even express how much I loved this book! Conan is just the perfect man. The way he went out of his way to take care of Anastasia despite her being a complete stranger was completely swoon-worthy. I love how Anastasia is such a strong, independent woman. Even while she was healing from amnesia. She may have needed to rely on others more, but she still remained her strong self. Conan and Anastasia have such great banter, and they work together so perfectly. The beginning of the book focuses mostly on Anastasia's healing, but the midway through, it starts to pick up with the mafia dealings and gets really good. It was such a great read from start to finish.

If you like romance books with some suspense and intensity, this book is for you! This is the second book in the Broken Heroes series and it continued the story very well. Anastasia is a mob princess who has her whole life planned out for her. She has been raised to be a perfect American socialite but at night her true rebel comes to life. That all changes when she gets caught up in a medical/criminal emergency that lands her in the hospital with no memory of who she is. Conan is her nurse and the way he falls for her is so intense. Just seeing her sparks an intense connection and he claims her from the beginning. Probably a bit of a stretch for real life but it is great in the book. She has to fight her way out of a mafia arranged marriage that leads to lots of intensity throughout the story. Twists and turns take us on quite a journey that ends with a sweet HEA. Well done!
There were a few things in the book that I did not personally care for. Both of the MCs have on page involvements with other people and then there is a why choose scene. I don't like either of those scenarios but it didn't take away from the plot. Also the book repeats itself a lot. Sometimes there were complete recaps of what was going on without any additional information. I didn't see these as necessary and could have been cut to make the book shorter without taking away from the story.

This brilliant book by Evie James is book 2 of 3 in the series telling the stories of the heroic and extremely hot Thorin Brothers. Day Shift picks up about 6 months after the end of Night Shift. This book tells Conan’s story, and how he came to truly love Anastasia. Anastasia works in a University Library by day, and is a co-owner of an elite exclusive New York nightclub by night. Family issues and mafia ties bring her to Tacoma, Washington where she ends up on the run, has a horrific car accident from which she’s lucky to have survived, but suffers from amnesia as a result. While enduring medical treatment she happens to have been first transported to the hospital by our favorite EMT: Braxton, in the ED, she is treated by both Dr. Atticus and lead RN: Conan. All 3 Thorin Brothers! She remains unconscious for a couple of weeks and while still fighting for her life, Conan is inexplicably drawn to our Jane Doe, whom he calls Angel. Healing, legal issues, family mafia ties, and love start clicking pieces of adventure into place. 🤫 I have said too much already, and yet there’s so much more to read. Extra spicy, dangerous liaisons, a forced wedding, and an unforgettable moment poolside to yet be celebrated. Definitely not easily forgotten!

I'll start by saying I TORE through this book in one setting!!! I was so excited for book 2 and it definitely delivered!!
If you haven't already read Night Shift, start there. You'll want to know all the characters in Evies universe, especially the Thorin Brothers!!!
Day Shift is the story of Conin Thorin, who is a big ole teddy bear wrapped up in tattoos. Don't let his smooshy insides fool you though, he will literally go to war for his woman ~ enter Anastasia. He immediately falls for her, an amnesia patient at his hospital. He will do anything to help and protect her - including serenading her with his guitar when she's still unconscious - smooshy teddy bear!!!! When she wakes, they work to discover her past, with the help of his brothers and other characters from book 1 (that's why I suggest you read it first). Conan has amazing boyfriend energy, and yet again, Evie writes an amazingly strong, funny FMC as well. Ana is no damsel in distress, which I love. Both main characters are smart and tough, and even better and stronger together! Oh and the spice was SPICING including a scene that I did NOT expect and thoroughly enjoyed!!
Can't wait for future books following more of these characters journeys!

The books in the series can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading them in order. If features Anastasia, who is a mafia Princess librarian and nightclub owner, and Constantine (Conan) who is an ER nurse. Anastasia is being forced into a marriage by her family to a man she despises and if she doesn’t follow through, death is her punishment. After a high speed chase and accident that ends with her having amnesia , she is listed as a Jane Doe. Conan is the nurse that takes care of her. He doesn’t believe in love but is drawn to Anastasia and wants to protect her. As they get closer, the threats from the past put everything in jeopardy.
The characters in this series are some of my favorites! Conan on the outside is so tough and intimidating with tattoos but he is really a teddy bear. Evie omg 😱 this book was even better than the first you have a way with words that had me captivated and wanting more.
I loved how Conan was captivated by Anastasia the minute he saw her and couldn’t get her out of his mind. How he would go and see her and play his guitar and sing to her 🥹🥹
I loved that Anastasia was a strong Fmc that is innocent during the week but has another personality on the weekends and is a boss babe that owns a night club. She was strong willed standing up to her mafia uncle so she wouldn’t marry Frankie. This is the second book of Evie James if you haven’t read Night Shift definitely recommend reading it.
Evie omg 😱 this book was even better than the first you have a way with words that had me captivated and wanting more.
I loved how Conan was captivated by Anastasia the minute he saw her and couldn’t get her out of his mind. How he would go and see her and play his guitar and sing to her 🥹🥹
I loved that Anastasia was a strong Fmc that is innocent during the week but has another personality on the weekends and is a boss babe that owns a night club. She was strong willed standing up to her mafia uncle so she wouldn’t marry Frankie. But she goes on a trip to find her brother and drives into a tree and meets my favorite ED nurse Conan when she wakes up from a coma. Happy Friday Readers! Do I have another great read to take you into the weekend with. Yes this book a second one in the series, but as someone who didn’t read the first one, I can say your good to read this one first if it grabs you. Otherwise go check out Evie James and her first book in the Broken Heroes series and then come back to this one Day Shift.
But if your like me and cover and blub pull you in, get ready for a wild, good time ride! This is definitely a solid 4/5⭐️ for me with a solid 4/5🥵🌶️ spice factor. The story and premise is good, character are great a strong female lead with a sexy but sweet male lead is what I was looking for in this book. I am definitely picking up book one in the series Night Shift so I can fall in love with more characters, and can’t wait for the next book.

Evie is an amazing author. I have only read two of her books which I do recommend Night Shift as well. This story had me from the beginning and kept me on my seat the whole time and I did not want to put the book down! The dynamic between Conan and Ana was fire from the start. It kept me wondering from the minute Ana showed up in their lives and her traumatic accident and whether she would be the same again or how long it would take to go back to normal kept me wondering. Evie has done it again and I can't wait for her to do it yet again with the next book about the their third brother Braxton. Plus the best part is she keeps the characters from the first book so we know what has been happening with them as well as well. I definitely recommend this book along with Night Shift to keep for when she releases the third book. I was and am happy to have been apart of the ARC Team for this lovely lady as she is not just a great write but is a wonderful soul as well from conversations on her chats with her ARC team! <3

Such a fantastic Book 2 of the series. Day Shift covers the story between Constantine (Conan) and Anastasia. Conan is an absolute teddy bear. He’s covered in tattoos, plays music, and is a kick ass nurse. Anastasia is a librarian and co-owner of Club Xyst as well as a mafia daughter. She is in a car accident and gets amnesia due to the accident. She is taken to the hospital that Conan works at which is how this ball starts rolling. Conan feels a pull to protect Anastasia but since she has no idea who she is, Conan starts calling her Angel (and it catches on). Eventually her memories come back and she has to go back to confront her family and to fulfill her marriage contract. Make sure to finish the book to find out the ending 😉
This book was absolutely wonderful and truly a 4-4.5 ⭐️ read with a 3 🌶️. There are several spicy scenes and Evie did an amazing job linking them with the plot so it wasn’t ONLY spice. I loved the cameos of characters from the first book and can’t wait for the next installment in the series!!

This read was book 2 of Evie James’ Broken Heroes series a medical mafia romance 🥰, where he falls first and hard.
The MMC is a big fluffy teddy bear in a grizzly bear body. And FMC is a mafia princess 👸🏻 that a tragic accident lands her in a hospital with a blank slate 🧠.
I think I fell in love from the start with Conan (the MMC) . He definitely was my main man and the character that I rooted for throughout this read.
Anastasia aka Angel ( FMC) was able to find a caring and loving “found” family with Conan and Thorin brothers.
And when her past and mafia ties come to cause trouble in her life. Her new found family rallies around her and helps her escape the life she thought she was destined for.
Conan and Anastasia chemistry and connection is immediate and intense. And Conan seeing to Anastasia every need and fantasy 🍆🍑🍆, was a treat🌶️🔥🌶️.
I loved seeing the cameos from book 1.

Day Shift is the second book in the Broken Hero’s series. Each book is a stand alone and flows very well into the next book. Trust me you won’t be disappointed by reading them in order.
Day shift follows Anastasia a mafia princess and Conan an ER nurse. This story had me all worked up. Conan falls hard right from the start and goes from a golden retriever MMC to Mr. Protector. Anastasia dealing with the aftermath of not remembering her mafia past starts to fall for him but her memories flooding back push her away.
I fell hard for these two characters and the backstories on both. Conan grabbed me by the hair in Night Shift and I’ve been hooked since 😆. Firstly I would love to thank Evie James for giving me the opportunity to read this amazing masterpiece cause I enjoyed everything single thing in this book when I tell you I couldn’t put it down I had to know everything it took me about 2 hours to finish it and Evie never disappoint me cause I kept going the book had me giggles, blushing, and kick my feet I literally had to take a lap around my house after a chapter that had me blushing really hard if you loved night shift your going to love day shift.

*ARC review* Evie James is back with another great installment of the Broken Heroes series, this time focusing on Conan Thorin in Day Shift. The glimpse of Conan from the 1st book fueled my curiosity of his story, and Evie did not disappoint!! Conan and Anastasia were complex characters begging to be understood, and I loved how each POV went a long way towards making sure the reader connected with the characters and their frame of mind. I was sucked into the mafia aspect of the story, as much as I was for the storyline surrounding how/why Anastasia found herself in Tacoma, and how she navigates all that is discovered. Evie James created a interconnected standalone story that kept me sucked in and trying to make predictions about the next book by the end! Lol. I cannot wait to see what book 3 has in store!

This was a delicious and thrilling medical/mafia romance!
It starts of with a bang (wink wink) and then proceeds to be a slow burn where the steamy tension rises until halfway through the book. There is just something so delicious about a slow burn.
While the slow burn simmers, you get all the back story and great character development. I really enjoyed getting to know Ana and loved that she is a badass mafia princess. Once her accident occurs and she has amnesia, you get to experience a whole new side of her and I loved the depth that created for her character!
I also really enjoyed Conan's character. He's is a big teddy bear disguised as a badass. Loved that!
This story will take you for a ride! You get the thrilling mafia story, the sexy romance and detailed medical procedures/drama all mixed together to make this great read!
