I only keep a small list of my very favorite books and series in my bookshelf here. I read A LOT and it's hard to keep the list updated!
This series was probably one of my favorite reads this year! Each book was better than the previous, and the stories were so much fun. The characters were so unique, and I loved the found family feel that got stronger with each book. Even though it’s only been a couple of months since I read these, it’s definitely time for a reread!
4 1/2 stars Hijacked is a good start to the Champion Security series (AKA: A Licking Thicket: Horn of Glory series). This being a spinoff of the Licking Thicket series, I expected and was not disappointed in the copious use of puns and double entendres. I was happy to see that the craziness wasn’t limited to Licking Thicket but followed them wherever they went. When I wasn't laughing, I was knee-deep in the drama of their predicament. And it was a peculiar predicament, let me tell you. With this being a Licking Thicket product, I was amused and strangely content with the offbeat actions and dialogue in which all the characters engaged. In other words, I did not look for Einstein and nor did he show up. Even the well-educated characters are a bit goofy and weird, and I love it. It was great to see characters from the previous series (Dunn, DunnDunn, Dunn, heh) and meeting these new characters. I feel confident they will lead all of us readers on a merry chase through the hilarity and strangeness of the Thicket in future books. The romance between Riggs and Carter is sweet, nurturing, and passionate. Their HEA is believable and satisfying. I ended up loving them both. Hijacked is an amusing read, but I have to say that there are serious, thought-provoking, and painful parts. I even teared up at one point. I look forward to more from these authors.
Hitched, Book 2
5 Stars Hitched is my new favorite from the Licking Thicket world. The storyline, which had several threads going simultaneously, is interesting, concerning, touching, passionate, and a bit scary. It kept my attention from the first page to the last. The secondary characters, known and new, are well placed and serve to add interest, suspense, and humor to the book as a whole. The townspeople once again play parts in the main characters' lives, and they tickled me with their interfering and nosy ways. Getting to know Quinn and Champ was such a pleasure. Quinn is a sweetheart that won my heart and tickled my funny bone as he talked himself through the ins and outs (heh) of a one-night stand that kept coming back for more. Champ, that one-night stand, is so goofily clueless with his blundering through Quinn's life and business that he kept me giggling and scratching my head in wonder. I love the wit and banter sprinkled throughout these pages, the emotional connection and passion shared by Quinn and Champ, and the believable and satisfying HEA. It kept a smile on my face through most of this book. So good. I look forward to more from these authors.
Hacked, Book 3
5 Stars Hacked is an excellent finish for the Champion Security Series (AKA: Licking Thicket: Horn of Glory Series). I fell in love with this world and all of the richly drawn characters and hate to see it end. I've grown used to how punny they all are and looked forward to more of the same in Hacked. I was not disappointed. I laughed and laughed. I particularly enjoyed the game references and the serious tone when playing and discussing it. I'm not proficient at games like that, but I felt like I was a part of this one. I don't know where the authors got the ideas for this game, but someone with the know-how needs to develop it so I can attempt to play it. I bet it would be great fun. Throughout the series, the investigation kept my attention. In the final push to resolve the case, I could feel the tension and stress as the guys rushed to learn all they could before their time ran out. The ins and outs of tracking down and finally getting the bad guys were convincing, and I was pleased with the outcome. Kev and Hux are now my favorite characters in the Thicket. The mounting tension between these two had me curious from the first book. I knew something would happen with them, but I didn't think it would be so touching and beautiful. I found myself relating to many of their nerdy characteristics, especially Kevin's lack of social skills. I wanted to hug him so many times and tell him he was unique and worthy of all the good things. The change in Kev and Hux's relationship is so sweet and sexy and contentious and smooshy all at the same time that I found myself holding my breath as they leveled up to a true romance. It was so beautiful to see. Their passion and emotion are strong, and the HEA is satisfying and believable. I look forward to more from these authors.
**This box set contains the books Hijacked, Hitched, and Hacked. I read all three books when they were first released. These are those reviews.**
HIJACKED (4 stars) This is great rom-com material and there aren’t many authors I’ve found that do that as well as Lennox and Archer. The puns and the innuendo are amusing as are the pop culture references and in the case of this book, the game descriptors for Horn of Glory.
The MCs here are Riggs, a bodyguard, who is assigned to Carter, a doctor about to travel abroad to Venezuela with “Doctors Across Continents.” It’s a mutual dislike to lovers story. The dialog is witty, the relationship moments tender, and the ending is sweet.
This is a low angst, fun, light, quick read. Something we need a lot more of in the current environment.
HITCHED (4 stars) This rom com is a sweet, quick read with fun MCs and a host of great secondary characters. The book stands alone but it is really helpful to have read the first book in the series to fully understand what is going on. There are portions where the story kind of slows down and I did some skimming but mostly the story kept me engaged. There is one development that it is just infuriating that Champ doesn’t see and of course there is the TSTL moment added for drama but which always just annoys the crap out of me.
I am looking forward to book three especially after a lot of the groundwork laid down in this book.
HACKED (4 stars) This is the third and final book in the Licking Thicket Horn of Glory series. It wraps up the overriding story arc from this trilogy.
The MCs for this book are the computer experts Kevin and Hux. They have had a contentious relationship up to this point. In this third book, where the team needs to recover data from multiple Horns, Kevin becomes an integral part of the team. Hux is none to thrilled with this development and Kevin is annoyed by how Hux treats him. It is only after they are forced to spend more time together that each of them realizes they have been hasty in their judgement. I enjoyed watching the relationship develop and the way the authors created situations to allow each MC to see the facets of the other that they had missed or misread. There are a few points where it seemed entirely unlikely that Hux wouldn’t have known some things and a few points where the story kind of slowed down. But mostly it was a fun read with humor, puns, some risk, and some emotional scenes. It was a quick read, mostly because I was fully engaged and didn’t want to put it down.
Hijacked: Cardiologist Carter and bodyguard Riggs's story is replete with mayhem, steamy hot sexy times, and puns galore! I just can’t get enough of these Lennox and May co-authored stories, and my only regret is that they last about as long as an ice cream cone on a hot summer day, and I devour them with all of the zeal of a farm dog with a turkey leg... mmmmm good!!
Hitched: Wedding planner meets security consultant in this wildly fun romp, with the steam and the humor both turned up to 11. The puns runneth over – most will make you laugh out loud, a few will induce a groan, but in the grand tradition of the previous Licking Thicket series, you will chuckle a lot!
Hacked: The story arc involving dangerously sensitive drug cartel data stored on a handheld game device which began in Hijacked and continued in Hitched now concludes in Hacked, with this exquisite rivals-to-lovers -- and gamers (gaymers?) — romp. Nerdy geek Kev and worldly ex-marine Hux are as deliciously different and as combustible together as gasoline and matches. The dance they do around each other, as they push each others' buttons, is as sexy as it is frustrating. But the payoff is HUGE….
I defy anyone to read these ridiculously entertaining stories and not crack up laughing.
The characters and the situations they get into with the Champion Security's hot men are unbelievable. These ex military serious guys trying to keep it together in the face of the Licking Thicket residents and a bunch of competitive gamers is too funny. Who knew that the"Golden horn" could be responsible for so much havoc.
The puns, they keep on coming...
How a computer game ends up putting people's lives in danger in the most remote, the most unlikeliest places is satire at it's best. Like a rare diamond, the horn attracts all the criminals to it's side on these action filled stories, wherever the horn goes so does the CS's protection. Lucy Lennox and May Archer sure know how to bring us the most ludicrous and absurd people and circumstances together. They definitely make us laugh out loud and fall in love even when you really don't expect to, so swoony, so hot.
The audio version of these stories are another level hilarious, Michael Dean is Licking Thicket!
Gah, this is seriously one of my favorite series. Kicking Thicket entertainment with drama, suspense and lots of steam. I adore the characters and getting to see a new side to these men. It’s a total must-read series and if you love audio-Michael Dean brings them to life in the best way! 5 stars!
I need more books that are co-written by these authors! The action scenes were great, the sex scenes were hot, the love stories were so sweet, and the humor was a red thread throughout the books and I laughed out loud so many times. So I highly recommend reading these books!
Books 1&3 absolutely brilliant, funny, choc full of innuendo and awesome characters. Book 2 - the two main characters didn't have the same pull as with the other books. It just lost some of its spark, still enjoyable but nowhere near 1&3.
