As the sole heir to a massive business empire, I have had my whole future mapped out for me from the day I was born. I have also had my entire life monitored. Everywhere I go, a bodyguard follows.
And I have had enough. I just want to attend university like a normal person without being shadowed, so I have scared off bodyguard after bodyguard by being an absolute menace.
But then my father called in him. Jace Hunter. The youngest son from a legendary assassin family.
Because he grew up with several unhinged brothers, he thinks that he can handle me. But he has no idea who he is up against. I will be more than just his own personal demon. I will be his undoing.

This is my favorite in the series. It was different from the others—no useless bullying, and it was so freaking cute. 🥺 I didn't expect this to be a bodyguard x rich heiress story, & i was surprised IN A GOOD WAY!
⌞ Kayla Ashford & Jace Hunter ⌝ ᯓ 20-23
Kayla wants to be free from her bodyguards, so she always pulls pranks on them and makes them quit. Jace wants to have a choice for his own future, so he accepted the bodyguard gig for 6 months, and then he'd be free.
I expected him to be nonchalant, mostly just being his funny self, but ugh he was actually pretty responsible 🥺 He took care of her, made her food, and made sure she was safe. Their interactions were so good. Kayla drove him mad and pulled pranks on him, but he was always a step ahead. Whenever she snuck out, he was right there to catch her jasjjhshs
“She wants to be a little demon? I will be the fucking king of hell”
“They took my girl. I’m going to paint this whole fucking town with blood.”
Kayla was kind of rude to him most of the time, but it warmed my heart when she apologized and made him food. She wasn’t unfair and obviously had her own issues. Her bossy and no-nonsense attitude was damn good. also, the nickname jace gave to her 'little demon' 🛐 besides, him holding her to him when she was vulnerable and giving her space that she needed after she confessed to him everything really did smth 😭
“I’ve got you, little demon. I’ve got you.”
“Now, sit your ass back down on that chair and finish your breakfast like a good girl” - umm hellooo???
I just know their scenes were so good, and this book didn’t focus on smut as much as the others did. Though Kayla flaunted herself in front of him in lingerie and taunted him 😂, they had some serious sexual tension though Jace did everything possible to keep it professional! 🤌🏻
All the girls being possessive of their guys lmao! The brothers' relationships throughout the series is good—they’ve got each other's backs.
»You hired a hitman to protect me?« »Yes. Now, be nice.«

❥ 𝑲𝒂𝒚𝒍𝒂 She is my new favourite woman in this series. She‘s intelligent, sassy and funny - it was great to read and I could really relate to her.
❥ 𝑱𝒂𝒄𝒆 He was kinda cute but at the same time dangerous. I liked him and the way he treats Kayla.
✥ 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒐𝒐𝒌 Okay hear me out: This book was fantastic but not as nerve wrecking as the other books in this series. I loved it but sometimes had the feeling that something was missing. The vibe was not as dark as in the previous books. Still I adored Kayla and Jace and I think the story fits these two. They‘re super cute together and the banter is chefs kiss. The bodyguard trope was well done and I enjoyed the protective side of Jace - that was hot. Both of them are intelligent and strong in their own way. Like all men in his family Jace knows how to worship an independent woman and he didn‘t try to hold her down. The plot was mainly the love story and there was little drama / action. We got a lot of snippets from Jace family and got to meet his brothers again - I will miss these idiots. This was a great ending to an amazing book series. I‘m glad I found this author and her amazing books, I will definitely binge read all her upcoming books!
»No, I don't mean in a bodyguard-protecting-me-from-dying kind of way. You would actually kill someone for me, someone who isn't a direct threat, just because I asked you to?«
𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐈 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤? Yes, to all my darkromance loving readers who enjoy morally grey characters.
𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬 bodyguard, possessive and protective hero, dual pov, school for criminals, assassin, mafia, super rich x rich, slow burn, dislike to love, instant attraction, dark, kidnapping, touch her and you‘ll die, dark golden retriever
𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 ages: Kayla (20) and Jace (21) cheating: no sharing: no kinks: no
This was a MISSED OPPORTUNITY. Should’ve been gay lwad.
Jace is the most sane brother and Kayla is pretty level headed too so they are a good match(still would be better if it was gay tho)
Romance is 3 stars but extra star for that wholesome family moments. This I was craving for whole previous 3 books. 3 of the girls seems pretty tight. I loved that they were out there trying to murder someone and their men on the couch smiling and fucking proud. I LOVED THAT SCENE.
Epilogue also shows all 4 girls as a family.
I’m so happy that Kayla got best friends now and 3 unhinged protective older brothers. Made me tear up bc she truly deserves to have family life.
I hope the author does write second generation books and hopefully few of them are gays and lesbians. Specially if they’re wrong another bodyguards trope…IT BETTER BE MM.
Okay enjoyed this series a lot. Proper amount of “darkness” in dark romance. Bully romance but none of the girls are spineless. Rina Kent WISHES
I binge read this book and it was so good. I’m not usually a body guard romance kid of girlie but this man had no business delivering all that ( yes I mean that in both ways ). Listen here y’all he cooks, cleans, loves eating (if ykyk) is possessive and rich. He’s also CHARMING I mean come on you rly have to hand it to him and she’s stubborn asf which means the tension ? Yeah no I was crippling for these two.
I loved that this book was the end to the series and we got to see all the characters interacting it was so damn wholesome and I’m so disappointed to have to leave this family but im happy I read it.
I just couldn’t relate to Kayla at all. All the other girls were so badass and I thought Kayla was so privileged and spoiled. Yes it sucks to have a bodyguard your whole life and therefore no privacy but when she was planning the silent auction for her school project and just wanted to “buy” all the items and then made Jace do all the labor to get them was annoying to me. Her whole personality was just “spoiled and entitled” to me. She gets irrationally jealous anytime someone has a sibling yet refuses to talk about her brother who died. You’d think she would want to prolong his memory? And then there’s hot Jace who agrees to be her bodyguard in exchange for having a say in his future and if he wants to be an assassin. My favorite part of the story was honestly the relationship with his brothers and their wives. Really Raina was everything and book 1 was by far the best and it slowly declined from there. Also I felt the whole kidnapping of Kayla by her school mate to pay off his gambling debt was a little flat. I was hoping for more out of that considering the whole story was Kayla talkin about how she would never be kidnapped. I also wish Jace would have taught her some self defense or something like Kaden did for Alina in the last book just so she wasn’t so useless. Good series overall
I actually shed tears this is the end… this was a masterpiece to me. This series has made me so incredibly happy and I’m so glad I found this author I couldn’t recommend this series enough. It’s too hard to choose a favorite out of all 4 since they are ALL perfect… but damn Jace’s story went above and beyond my expectations. I literally just finished this and I’m ready to read this again.. I’m ready to binge the whole series again!!! Looking forward to all this authors future works
“Outside these walls, everyone you meet might jump to obey your every order,” he begins, his eyes searing into mine. “But in here, you obey my commands. So when I tell you to crawl, you fucking crawl. Understood?”
I'm so sad this series is over. These are definitely a favourite read for this year. I was so excited to get Jaces' story. And it was fantastic.
All that Jace ever wanted was a choice. A choice to do whatever he wanted in life. So his father gives him a proposition to be a bodyguard for a client's daughter for a few months. If he fails this task, he must continue his training at Blackwater. If he passes, he has a choice for his future. Sounds easy for a hitman, right? Wrong. Not when Kayla is a 20 year old with the same dreams Jace has, being free.

Absolutely LOVED this book!!! I can confidently say that this was my favorite book out of the Kings of Blackwater series.
This was my first dark, college, bully, romance series and I have to say I am a big fan! Raven Wood did an incredible j0b with this series . I loved every single character and was so happy to see previous main characters throughout the entire series.
I'm super sad that this is the end of the Hunter brother's but, I think this was the perfect conclusion to their story.
Loved Jace and his little demon.....this was bodyguard/rich heiress 🔥🥵🌶️....with cameos from our favourite psychopath brothers Eli, Rico and Kaden and their equally insane girls Raina, Isabella and Alina👑💕🫶🏻
It's far from being a bad book. I managed to connect with the characters, and the way the story was written kept me engaged and brought genuine smiles to my face.
It's nowhere near as bizarre as the Eli and Raina storyline we read, so I truly found the story cute!
I think Kayla has become my favorite female character after finishing the book because she's so determined and sassy (a bit childish at times, but that's part of her charm), and I think she and Jace deserve each other
Also, it's really nice to read the parts where the 8 of them are interacting like a family (a bit crazy and dysfunctional, but still) and it's sweet to see how they protect each other... I liked it!
Jace….. you stole my heart. I was so scared to read this because of his little parts in his brother’s books. However, to my surprise he becomes my favorite brother…. i still really love Eli tho… The storyline was so different from the other brothers I think thats why I love him. Him and Kayla are a match made in heaven. They feed off each other so well. The chemistry is unmatched. I love the Hunter boys so much, I will never forget about them. I love the enemies to lovers soooo much. This whole series is a must if you love dark romance.
Compared to the other books in this series, this book was barely dark, it had more of a romcom feel to it (or maybe I’ve just read too many dark twisted romances because i have). While this book tied up everyones love lives with a very nice and happy bow, I just don’t like the female main character Kayla a lot for majority of the book. Jace deserved so much better honestly. Yes she’s not boring and is a spitfire but Kayla is the definition of a wealthy inconsiderate ignorant brat. She throws tantrums and stomps her feet like a brat when something doesn’t go her way and that kind of behavior just irritates me.
She moans and groans like a spoilt child that she wants her freedom. She clearly doesn’t understand that with excessive power and money also comes excessive risk. For every benefit there will always be some drawback. She’s the richest heiress in the state and having body guards is too much of a drawback for her to put up with to enjoy that privilege?
I mean its great that she owns who she is but the way she treated Jace who was just doing his job was just mean. Jace cooked breakfast for her where she didn’t even remember to thank him (first time someone put that kind of care towards her) and on the same day she goes to a fancy restaurant and makes him stand rather than invite him to sit and eat, she even grins evilly when his stomach growls from hunger, just so he’d get irritated and quit (obviously he doesn’t).
Personally I’m so glad that Jace set up a staged kidnapping for Kayla (with her dad’s approval by the way). She seriously needed a reality check, to understand how quickly things can go wrong and the reasons why her father assigned her bodyguards. And yet she reacted with entitled arrogance and only thinks about winning even when she knows she’s wrong all for the sake of hurt pride *smh*. Oh and I loved when right after the kidnapping she made empty threats at his brothers with their girls there and immediately all the girls stood up announced descriptively they were going to murder her, obviously since Kayla can only talk a big game and is actually not a match for the other deadly ladies was shocked. It was so satisfying to see her getting taken down 10 pegs. And even after experiencing the repercussions of a kidnapping she still whines about wanting a ‘normal life’, you’re rich you’re life is already not normal! Jace coddled her even when she didn’t deserve nor appreciate it. *Sigh* My heart wants better for Jace than Kayla.
I genuinely feel like she has daddy issues and needed to be spanked to straighten out her bad manners earlier on in the book. No matter how psychotic Jace is or how much blood is on his hands, I actually felt bad for him for so patiently and considerately putting up with the mean tantramatic brat. Thankfully in the end after her life was actually in danger, she sobered up. So it was a very cute happy ending for all the brothers of the series!
My favorites in the series are 1st and 3rd book. Book 2 was just too slow and barely anything dark happened in book 4.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✩ (4.5/5) << I laugh. And finally feel that decade-long restlessness fade from my soul. >>
Irresistible Darkness closes out the Kings of Blackwater series with a perfect blend of dark romance and unexpected cuteness. This time, Jace Hunter takes center stage alongside Kayla Ashford, delivering a bodyguard x rich heiress story that I absolutely loved! 😍
The plot itself wasn’t as dark as previous books, leaning more into romantic comedy territory at times. For some, this was a relief, though others might miss the intense edge of the earlier books. The family dynamics were a highlight throughout the series, and this final installment doesn’t disappoint, giving us more brotherly love and some epic moments between the brothers and their partners.
Final thoughts: This book was a satisfying end to an awesome series! The bodyguard trope was executed well, and the chemistry between Kayla and Jace made the story. I’ll miss these characters and their wild, protective dynamics. Highly recommended for dark romance lovers who enjoy strong, possessive heroes and witty banter. 💖
Review: “Like he has finally found his place in the world. Which is here. With me." 🖤
The tears won't stop and they won't be for a while. This is the kinda book/book series i want to read again for the first time. Damn Raven, you created one of my favorite book series, who will forever have a special place in my heart 🥹🖤
We meet again in Blackwater, but this time in a complete different vibe. This book is def not as dark as the other books but still dark enough for all the dark romance lovers. I loved how the main topic was the love story and the personal journey of the MCs. Jace, my personal ball of psycho sunshine, I loved him so so much. He treated Kayla so so good, he was funny, smart and oh so protective. Kayla is probably my favorite FMC of this series! She was funny, intelligent, sassy and headstrong. I could relate to her so often.
Together these two made me smile a LOT but also cry every so often. There was so much personal growth, finding your place in the world, dealing with the past and handling your relationships in this book. The bodyguard trope was so well written and also the connection between these two felt so special.
I was obsessed with all the little snippets from Jace and his brothers, like yes give me all these family vibes. The love between them was so pure and deep, even i was a little jelouse of it like Kayla was. But she fit right in, gaining unhinged brothers and psycho sisters 🤭
I can't believe that this is the end, that there isn't a next book, that i have to leave these brothers behind...
THANK YOU Raven, this series was everything. Can't wait for anything that is about to come. 🖤
Tropes: ♡ dual pov ♡ forced proximity ♡ Bodyguard ♡ dark bully romance ♡ possessive and protective hero ♡ she's rich and he's an assasin ♡ dark golden retriever x red cat
I lost count on how many times I made a mark or a note or a highlight on this book because it was AMAZING❤️ I was never bored. Their banter, their constant pranks. How they never bowed to each other. Their strong characters. EVERYTHING IN THIS BOOK WAS FUCKING PERFECT❤️
I laughed so hard throughout but I also cried reading about how Jace was actually feeling. While reading Enduring Darkness, it seems that Jace is not as well put as he seems but when you actually get a glimpse at what his insecurities are, I was crying so much💔 And Kayla and the story with her brother that was so traumatic 💔 RAINA MADE AN APPEARANCE 🩷❤️🩷❤️ and she didn’t disappoint😂 I swear the scene at the basement when she sees Kayla coming up out of it, her reaction was epic😂 And then Jace running to save Kayla from Insane Raina was even more epic😂
Their group moments were THE BEST❤️ I actually was crying because it felt so final😔 Their epilogue was everything you could ask for and I want to take the author for bringing to life such amazing characters ❤️ Unfortunately, I wasn’t a fan of the second book, I even rated very low but I still loved reading them being part of the story because it was really amazing❤️
I am very sad to have finish this journey😔💔 but I will most definitely read more of this author’s work❤️
P.S: Eli’s and Raina’s are still my favorites but Jace is my favorite MMC❤️
Ugh! I have LOVED the other 3 books in this series, and loved Jace in all of them so I was really looking forward to reading his book last. But omg, less than 20% of the way in and the FMC is so incredibly awful (selfish, bratty, annoying AF) that I actually WANT her to get kidnapped & tortured just to teach her a damn lesson!!! As much as I wanted to read this book and love it, I had to put it down because she is truly the worst and I can’t imagine anything being able to redeem her because literally from the first time she appeared on page I’ve just wanted to roll my eyes and then strangle her before throwing the book across the room in frustration!
Bks 1&3 were also my favorite (both 5 star reads for me), Bk 2 was still good (4-4.5 stars) but this one was so awful I could barely finish it because of how much I hated the FMC!!! Honestly, as soon as we met her on the page in Bk3 I knew I was going to hate her (who ruins a strangers wedding just bc they can’t stop being a rebellious brat for 1 hour?!).
If she doesn’t irk you as much as she does me than maybe you might enjoy this book more but it’s a hate-read/DNF for me! But imho Jace 💯 deserved better! #JusticeforJace
i loved this book a lot! and i was so close to giving it 5 stars!! since reading the first book in the series, which i gave a 5, ive been feeling like the series wasn’t living up to how good the first book was.
this book was giving me all the vibes and i was so so happy that it was finally matching up to book 1 standards but sadly the last like quarter of the book got boring again :(
i loved kayla and jace as a couple and they connected really well. the bodyguard concept was interesting and i loved their back and forth bickering. they took just the right amount of time to fall for eachother and i just thoroughly enjoyed the whole dynamic
i just think, unlike book 1, all the books in this series just drag on unnecessarily, it’s kinda like a marvel film? like everything gets solved and it’s a lovely length story and it feels right and then it’s like ugh there’s anotherrrr problem :/
This is the last book of the series and it focused on Kayla and Jace, he ends up being her bodyguard and they go from enemies, to enemies with benefits, to lovers.
It took me a while to get into the story, this book is about the characters growth and their relationship together, but there's not really a plot, and is very different from the previous books, Kayla was very childish and annoying for most of the book, for the most part I thought Jace deserved someone better, a strong female character, like the rest of the girls on the series, but in the end this couple won me over, they turned out to be a good match.
I loved seeing the previous couples, and the ending with all of them together was very sweet and funny.
It was a good book, but this is probably my least favorite of the author so far.
This book was just wow. To be honest all four are. Raven Wood, I have just one critic for you. YOU DON'T WRITE ENOUGH BOOKS, I need moooooore. The book is written perfectly, you don't have a second when you get bored. We have passion, love ,and spice. Everything . So Jace the smallest brother, senior year at assassin's university has an existential crisis, he takes up a job as bodyguard after making a deal with his father, if he completes the assignment he will have a say in his future , Kayla is a rich hairless who already got rid of 6 of bodyguards previous Jace, and here where the fun begins. This book is not hate to love type, but about building tension before a big explosion. Enjoy!!!!!!!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
It was more sweet than the other three books, but I like that the MMC are not all copies of eachother. Jace’s kink also came through differently:
“Yes,” I reply. Lifting a hand, I trace my fingers over her collarbones. “Because you’re used to being in charge. You’re used to people jumping to obey you.” I quickly close my hand around her throat. “But in my bedroom, I give the orders. And you obey.”
But the most interesting about the book was the scenes where we saw the rest of the brothers and their girls.
Raina and Eli are still the best of this series, their relationship stood out from many other dark romance books. But it was nice to read the series to the end.
I wanted to love Jace & Kayla’s story but it fell just a little short of books 1-3. Kayla gave off too many spoiled, bratty vibes - I immediately missed Raina, Isabella, and Alina. Jace was the perfect blend of golden retriever and spicy assassin. I’m so happy he finally opened up to Eil, Rico, and Kaden. When they stood up to daddy Hunter, my heart squeezed. They really are some of my favorite unhinged men 😉
The epilogue was an awesome way to wrap up the series with a glimpse into their lives together. Very very much recommend this series.
Enemies to lovers Forced proximity “Good girl” Golden retriever assassin 🌶️ level 3
this was unexpected in the best of ways, right when i thought this last book might feel like something was missing due to the change of setting, the author surprised me. it made sense for the mmc to not have his book be about the college for hitmen, while also being about breaking from his family generational tradition of being hitman. and then ending up with him joining his brothers in the business. because the story was all about freedom, so naturally it was a forced proximity, bodyguard romance. it’s brilliant, really. the contrasting juxtaposition between the main couple was rooted in the fact that they’re actually the same. for one of them to be free the other had to be “caged”, the poetic justice of it all.
I enjoyed this book, which is the fourth (and seemingly final) in the interconnected standalones. Definitely not as dark as the first three - forced proximity and bodyguard tropes, a little dark but the MMC is feral for her only.
What I liked most is that the author didn’t intentionally mislead, and purposefully left breadcrumbs that were obvious enough for me to follow along and guess the big reveal at the end (although there was one element that still shocked me!)
