Heavily pregnant, Barbara is looking forward to welcoming her new baby. But with her husband Alex still away flying and fighting the Germans, she fears he will miss the arrival of his longed-for child.
But after the birth, Barbara is gripped with a terrible fear that she will lose her family completely – that this dreadful war will take everything from her.
As she spirals into a dark depression, she pushes everyone away and it seems as though she will lose everyone she loves after all.
Unless Barbara can find the courage to grab her second chance at happiness?

This is book 5 of the series and I’ve read them all in order. That’s the only way to do it as the character development is wonderful and the whole family become alive and become your friends. This series begins before the start of WWII and ends just before the war is over. These books are so well written and the characterization is so good that I felt like I was a part of it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Be prepared to do nothing but read as I have read the series in about a week.
The story was good, but I can’t believe the author forgot the names of her own characters from the past four books! Besides the typos in the previous books which made them difficult to read, she changed the grandfather’s name (started calling him by his dead sons name), one of the dog’s names was changed, and the young son was called by some odd name one time in the entire series, in chapter 1 of this book. This final book was a disappointment because of several editorial mistakes.
While this was a decent read, it was not great the Author does need to work a bit on her time lines.I liked the main character but as a military wife there were many times, I was bothered by her behavior. I did read all four books and the novella with Alex's side of his escape back to England, so it did hold my attention enough to read the complete series.
Interesting tale of the maddening life of a RAF pilot in WWII. While he flies, putting his life in danger, his wife attempts to keep the home fires burning while caring for a young son and then a wee daughter. I was surprised at how much women were pampered postpartum. Enjoyable, easy read.
I just finished it at 3 am!!!! I read ¾ of the book in one go! Fenella Miller improves with every book she writes. I would love it if she could write a sequel to this one! I would love to read how the characters progress post-war and into the early 1950's!
I read the series of books back to back and thoroughly enjoyed every one of them, they were serious, funny, dramatic and lighthearted all at the same time. It's a shame there won't be anymore in the series
I loved all of the books but I noticed that you changed Dr Sinclair name from Edward ( in first 3 books) to Charles. I am surprised your editors did not catch this. Other then that I loved the story line and all of the characters.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Conclusion. It's a great read and very well written. I thoroughly appreciate the author and this is not the first book I've read written by Fenella Miller. She is an interesting writer and her books are 'the best.'
I have loved every book in this series, literally reading it till I have fallen asleep! I'm sad it's cone to an end.. I have enjoyed every book I've read from this author so far
Have read all in their series and thoroughly enjoyed them. Bit disappointed at times as characters names get mixed up. Would have thought either the author or a proofreader might have picked it up. Didn’t really spoil my reading of the series.
I enjoyed this entire series. I felt engaged at every turn and was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. I look forward to reading more from this author.
An emotional rollercoaster ! Loved this book! Am happy with the story and felt the conclusion was perfect! Wonderful characters and a great conclusion!
I loved this book and all the other books in this series. I fell in love with all the characters. I can heartily recommend them. I wish there was more books in this series.
I did like the whole series but this book annoyed me. In the other 4 books the grandfather is Edward. In this final book the grandfather is Charles. Not a bad book just confusing!
A very enjoyable story I'm just sorry that it's the last book in the series. It was good to catch up on the lives of Babs & Alex it was an emotional rollercoaster ride of emotions. I loved it
I am very pleased the author brought the main thread to a durable happy ending.
I have read all the books back to back and I am sure it will remain with me for a long time. MC were not always lovable but for this very reason they ringed true and realistic.
Now I would like to see John having his story too. He deserves a nice girl who loves him and cares for him.
