I'm so not into Billionaires. Not even if they're aliens.
But I also don't like lookism, fatphobia, classism and misogyny.
.
I loved all the other books I've read by this author but this one wasn't for me.
.
Not even his "Tell me what you need." was able to save it.

We have A Christmas Carol retelling with an alien twist and YESSSSS. Skruj is a little bitter, a lot tight when it comes to money, and the big guy doesn't know what hit him when Bobbi shows up for the job he posted. To be fair, Bobbi has no idea what she's in for with her soon-to-be boss either.

Fortunately for her, Skruj isn't cruel, by any means. He might be a little obsessed with money, but Bobbi's sweetness and calm way of explaining things soon has him opening his famously tight purse strings. After all, he wouldn't want his companion to be underdressed for any of the events she's joining him on, would he?

A reunion with old friends (that Skruj wasn't looking forward to), a dinner with his colleagues (that Skruj wasn't looking forward to), and a look toward that future (that gives Skruj the kick in the pants he needs to see where his life is heading) have these two getting to know one another in the best sort of way. It doesn't take long before sparks are flying and kisses are being bestowed. GOOD TIMES!

just enough like Scrooge, but better

I loved this story. I am not a super fan of “A Christmas Carol.” This book got to the heart of the original story & created a very modern romance. It is very warm & loving. I enjoyed it immensely.

A cute, ok little alien Christmas story!

It wasn’t my absolute favorite but it has some cute parts. It’s a take on a Christmas Carol.

As always, I find these stories too fast to have a real emotional payoff - I always want more of the hero thawing, more of showing why they fell in love, etc. But I did like to see a grumpy guy warming to the heroine.

I guess I can’t even read a holiday alien book without some ex drama? 😢 I wish that he definitively said he didn’t love her or it was different with the heroine. He just says he’s still hurt by the betrayal of the ex. I don’t get the sense he’s hung up on her but it’s hardened him to love, the same old story. It’s overall not dwelled on too much so I think it wasn’t needed and he could’ve just had other drama from his school past.

I liked the heroine’s little brother! I would’ve liked to see more about them treating or figuring out his illness, even if it’s just a few pages in the epilogue.

But it’s a low angst, festive alien thing if that’s your jam!

Me encantó el retelling de Un cuento de navidad estilo ciencia ficción romántica!

❄️SKRUJ de Honey Phillips Serie Holidate with an Alien libro 1

Argumento:

Oh boy, I love me some grumpy MMCs. Oh my god, this book got me feeling emotional. I loved this book. It was really well written. But if I had to nitpick, it would be the lack of details on the brother's health. Additionally, I kinda wished the book started off by giving us info about the alien species and what life is like for humans outside of Earth.

If you're looking for some holiday reads with alien romance and a grumpy hero, a sunshine FMC, and a Cinderella-like story, I definitely recommend it.

- A Christmas Carol, but make it sexy aliens and minus the ghosts
- Grumpy/Sunshine
- Fake dating
- Pulsing alien peen
- Too big to fit, maybe?

Skruj doesn't care about anything but money, so when his business partner died and changed his will before he did, Skruj is forced to attend three holiday events, not alone but with a date. Having no time for companionship and no interest in such nonsense, he simply hires someone to attend with him and thus fullfill the stipulations of the will. He hires Bobbi, a human who is in desperate need of money to help her sick brother Tim and to give him the best Christmas she possibly can.

I wasn't sure how in Heaven and Earth that Honey was going to turn this story into a sci-fi romance, but somehow she managed to do so! I think this author might be a touch magic or something, she has a knack for putting drugs or something in her writing. She manages to not only get enough of the original story into it, but also make it feel completely new, it's a delicious balance.

Bobbi is sweet as pie, she loves her brother and wants to take care of him, and taking this job will give her enough credits to give him an amazing Christmas but to take care of them both for a while...something her meager job won't allow. As all the human ladies do in these books, she brings out things in Skruj that he didn't even know he had and watching them bloom and blossom is so sweet.

I am really not a Christmas book sort of girl, but this series really called to me and begged to be my December series. It was fantastic start to this series and a great promise for following books.

Honey Phillips is one of my favorite authors for many reasons including one applicable here - her reimagining of classic tales and movies. Skruj is a wonderful example of A Christmas Carol being set on another planet with aliens and humans. It's a total romance that is fun, funny told with heart and steam. Looking for a wonderful Christmas tale or just a tale to make you smile? Then this is the book for you. Enjoy!.

This is a Christmas Carol retelling about a wealthy alien who owns most of the city named Eben Skruj. When his business partner dies he finds that to fulfill the wishes of the contract to gain all of the business he must attend three social events with a companion. While straightforward, only one female had met his terms, a human one. The grumpy Skruj finds himself falling more for his human companion though with each event.

This was a surprisingly wonderful retelling. Eben and Bobbi’s story was sweet and very low angst making it a great holiday read. Eben Skruj is a grumpy bachelor who spends his time working and acquiring wealth after a bad breakup. He doesn’t trust people and has isolated himself, but these events force him to be around people and make him realize how alone he was and that not everyone is bad, nor is it bad to spend money. I really liked seeing Eben open up and let Bobbi in. He was just a grump who just wanted to be loved, and I really liked him.

Bobbi was a sweet woman who spent her days working hard and taking care of her younger brother. She takes this job to make extra money to try and give her brother an actual Christmas day. Bobbi was just an extremely kind and compassionate woman who really cared about those around her. She saw through Eben’s barriers and realized that he hid a lot of feelings behind his blank faces. I liked that while she was sweet, we also see her get jealous and protective of Eben as well.

Overall, this was a great alien retelling and a great holiday romance. I was very surprised by this romance and now want to read more Christmas Carol retellings.

Skruj is a sci-fi romance takeoff on A Christmas Carol. Eben Skruj is a parsimonious, richer-than-god alien man who only cares about money. To meet the terms of his late business partner’s will, he must attend three social events, showing him his past, present, and future. He advertises for an escort to accompany him to these events.

Desperate to provide a nice Christmas for her ailing young brother Tim, human refugee Bobbi Cratchar takes the escort job working for the meanest, cheapest man in the city.

Neither like each other, but nipples and dicks start hardening immediately. But from lust, respect and affection do develop, and Skruj gets the needed and expected attitude adjustment.

Skruj is a very clever, fun, fast-paced holiday sci-fi romance. I loved how author Honey Phillips used a Christmas Carol for inspiration and then made it her own. This a enjoyable holiday read, and I breezed right through it.

I would have preferred Bobbi and Skruj develop an emotional connection before reacting physically to each other, but insta-lust is the author’s style, and I know to expect that when I read a Honey Phillip’s book.

I recommend Skruj as a clever, quick holiday read.

Just from the blurb I can tell this is an alien version of A Christmas Carol. I’m not casting aspersions as my favorite is the Muppets retelling so I’m looking forward to this author’s spin.

There is a hat tip to Mr. Magoo with the landlady named Mrs. M’gid. (For those of you too young to remember, Mr. Magoo was a cartoon character who also played Scrooge)

Eben Skruj is required to attend three social functions to meet the requirements of his partner’s last will and testament. He does not want to attend alone so places an ad for a companion to accompany him. He “settles” for a young human woman named Roberta “Bobbi” Cratchar who just happens to have a younger brother named Tim who is not in the best of health.

His past is represented by attending a function where he attended school. The present is a dinner with business associates and a groundbreaking ceremony for a hospital to be built indicates his future. Unlike Dickens’ Scrooge it doesn’t take him all three functions to realize there’s more to life than power and money. He is hopelessly attracted to Bobbi who reciprocates his feelings. Happy ending assured.

Mean alien magnate Skruj of planet Londria needs a date for a series of events to secure an inheritance that would boost his wealth even more. He hires Bobbi, a human refugee, who desperately needs money for Christmas presents for her little brother, to play the part. It is strictly a business deal, right? Until the unfathomable happens: one touch and smile at a time, Bobbi thaws his cold, cold heart… So this is a sort of a take on “A Christmas Carol”, except it is set in an alien world. And it is fun. And steamy. I loved the hero and heroine and all of the nice side characters (yeah, there are some baddies there too). Loved Skruj’s back story and how his transformation took place. Loved the writing style, it's sweet and witty and just fun but not corny or sappy in a cliched way. Basically, the whole book is like a big warm (and spicy) hug that made me smile wide from beginning to end. Excellent!

Aww, I loved it !!!

What a truly beautiful, wonderful holiday retelling of Skruj, except without the ghosts , but With Aliens !!!
Eben Skruj is a very driven , successful male that has climbed ,and scraped his way from nothing into a financial wizard . He is totally focused on being successful. That is it . That is all .
Until his partner up and dies ! Leaving Eben with a very weird request before all of the shares became his.
He must attend three functions with a female and stay with for a certain amount of time.
He was going to get those shares !!

Bobbi is a big sister . Her brother is sort of sickly, and she wants to make this CHRISTmas holiday on this new world special . She saw an add for a companion to attend three different events, and thought , Why not ??
From the very first moment there were sparks !!
This story was so sweet and reminded me of several holiday movies that I have watched . Made me feel all happy and ooey gooey inside , you know what I mean ??
A great read !!!

Wonderful Learning To Love Story!

This story is so endearing. Skruj spent his childhood and adult life wanting financial security but never considered love and family until meeting his destiny. Touching story of developing a life he never dreamed would be his. Am hoping we will see more of their family in future books in this series because there were a few leads to other stories. Am not a fan of series with multiple authors because writer styles can differ in another path and ruin the series.

I am a big fan of Honey Phillips but totally understand the need to introduce new authors, I just regret the authors are frequently not paired well. In any event, I thank the writers for sharing their talent and imagination with us. Also to thank Amazon for the idea of Kindle Unlimited affordable subscription. I also like the Reading Insights for tracking books read and counting consecutive days reading. I frequently share my multiyear consecutive days and weeks pattern.

Author Honey Phillips weaves her sweet and steamy magic in Skruj which is sure to please as the reader follows the course of a wealthy and not particularly nice alien of a grinch who has been unpleasantly surprised by a codicil to his late partner’s will that has him scrambling to find a “companion” to accompany him for three Londrian holiday events. Strange, but there is always a method to what one thinks is madness as Skruj will discover after he hires human Bobbi to fill the position.
Bobbi needs funds to insure her little brother a special holiday so bites her tongue when meeting the master grump even as strange tingles start up when their eyes meet!
I really enjoyed the humor, and specialness of this emotionally engaging story with it’s well crafted characters, perfectly written prose, and delivery of quite a delightful read.

I always loved the Christmas movie, Scrooge, and this is the perfect take on that movie. A human female named Roberta otherwise known as Bobbi, her sickly little brother named Timmy. Leaving earth, it took them five years to get to their new home planet where she works as a seamstress in a factory and also cares for her brother. It took me a while to figure out his name because of the way it is spelled, Skruj. I’m guessing it is pronounced Scrooge. His business partner passed away, and he was supposed to get the other half of their business, but found out that there were three stipulations to him getting it. He had to go to three different events and bring a date. An ad, and a lot of disappointing applicants, and one little woman named Bobbi. let the fun begin. The book was amazing, funny, a little anxiety in there, but the characters were perfect. The story was amazing. She really did the Christmas story justice with an alien romance. An amazing happily ever after.

Another classic with a wonderful Sci-fi twist. I love the Christmas Carol and this one was made even better by adding an alien twist.
Eben was fun to read- turning from a power hungry miser to a caring, loving and devoted companion to Bobbi.
Bobbi was true to her character. Loving sister to her ill brother Timmy. I loved how she stayed true to herself. How she kept to her values and wasn't influenced by Skruj's wealth. How she taught him the true meaning of living. Even though she had nothing of monetary value, she had faith in others.
Wonderful chemistry between the two. Excellent HEA. The story played out very well. I could see the empty mansion. I could sense the "fear" in his employees. His distrust in people. And his world changing for the better with Bobbi's help .

This was a very cute retelling of A Christmas Carol (Scrooge). Not that you couldn’t guess by the title but I was surprised at how great of a retelling it actually was. I just expected the Scrooge / Skruj name only but it basically does the entire PAST- PRESENT- FUTURE storyline which includes a money hungry grouch that doesn’t celebrate the holidays (including making his employees work over the holiday).

I actually have no complaints at all about this book. It was cute and really followed the Scrooge storyline very close, including a sick little boy named Tim. The story does a great job balancing between the plot/ storyline and included ample amounts of steamy spice. I love spice so there could have been a bit more but I really liked how sweet and giving Skruj is to everyone, once he decides to be.

“I can hardly wait, snookums.”

I loved this book. It was such a fun read. I haven't read A Christmas Carol since a Charles Dickens class I took in college, but I couldn't wait to see how it was reworked into an alien romance! Great world building. I loved Bobbi and Skruj. He was such a grump and I loved the dynamic between them. Bobbi was such a sweet character and the perfect match for Skruj. I loved Skruj's character development over the course of the book and how he began to open up and care for Bobbi. That ending was beautiful. I read as many of Honey's books as I can get my hands on (which is pretty much all of them! lol) and this one was definitely one of my favorites. A fantastic book and I highly recommend picking it up! 5 stars.

5 fantastic stars for Skruj💖🌟

This was a wonderful take on A Christmas Carol. Eben Skruj, an angry alien businessman who has all the money he could ever need but no one to share anything with. All he cares about is the next pile of credits to be earned. When his partner dies and adds stipulations to his will he needs to learn to e a bit more social. Bobbi a young human woman working hard to make sure her little brother has a good life and is able to get medical treatment for a childhood illness answers an ad that changes her life. When these two meet Their worlds collide And new possibilities are realized. Love and family is worth more than any credits! This was a warm holiday treat and a pure pleasure to read! Highly recommend💖🌟🌟💖🌟💖🌟💖🌟💖💖🌟💖🌟🔥🔥🔥

Well, that's an unexpected twist on the Dickens Christmas Carol story. I can truly say I didn't expect it.

The ML, Skruj, was a lonely and angry guy who is faced with collecting his partner's goods after the partner's death, but only after meeting certain conditions. So this is an interesting and modern take on the story without the spirits.

The female lead is pretty interesting as well. She's a strong woman who has spent many years being a caregiver with no time for dating or finding potential partners. I liked her a lot.

Thus is a sweet story of redemption with some truly smoking hot sex. If you love watching A Christmas Carol every year, you may find yourself speculating a little more at Mr. Scrooge!

Great retelling of a classic

This was a fun and heartwarming retelling of a Christmas Carol with an alien romance twist. Bobbi Cratchar is a human woman who has been resettled on an alien planet for five years. She works in a clothing factory and lives with her medically fragile brother Timmy. Eben Skruj is a rich but cold businessman whose recently deceased partner required him to attend three events with a companion prior to getting full possession of the company they co-owned . Bobbi is hired as Skruj’s fake girlfriend for the three events. The more time the couple spend together, the more Eben soften and the more connection the couple feel. Despite being short, the story was well written, the characters had dimension and the storyline was engaging.

Vibes and Overall Feeling: 5 stars
Overall Rating: 4.5 stars

This book really did it for me. It's a retelling of A Christmas Carol but with a hot alien who finds himself willing to spend his hard-earned money on his companion and her sick brother. It's hot and steamy. It's got elements of spoiling and care-taking. It was really great. The only reason it got docked is because the plot seemed a little unnecessary, and I wanted more character exploration. I read this in one sitting, and it was a fun time. 100% recommend this to lovers of Honey Phillips or of Alien Romance, or honestly just because. Honey Phillips is a new favorite author for me, and I really love the respectful male characters she writes and the retellings she does.

Honey has done it again! She has taken one of my favorite classic stories and spun it into a steaming hot, but very sweet alien romance. That take a pretty amazing talent! She doesn't just rip off an idea and call it a day, no she takes the bare bones of the story so you can recognize what it is but then she fleshes it out into something completely different and wonderful. Skruj is destined to become a yearly Christmas read for me right alongside that other story. I loved this story so much. It fits perfectly with the other books in the Holidate series! You should check them all out..soooo good!.

Bobbi (h) struggles financially to get by and support her younger brother, Tim, on planet Londria when she accepts a job to attend three social events as the companion to a wealthy Londrian, Eben Skruj (H). He has no time for relationships but must attend three social events with a companion to satisfy the terms of his late nosiness partner’s will to expand his wealth and holdings. Skruj finds himself enraptured by Bobbi, and Tim, as they get to know one another, and things soon heat up between Skruj and Bobbi. Lovely alien reimagining of “A Christmas Carol” with plenty of heat, holiday magic, and romance.

A new take on A Christmas Carol

This was such a cute surprise! I got this book because I pretty much love all of Honey Phillips’s books but I had no idea it was a spin on A Christmas Carol until I started to read it. Everything about this was fantastic. From the Scrooge (Skruj) to his lady (Bobbi) and little tiny Tim. The story fit the theme of the famous tale really well, adding it’s own flare to the mix. I also became invested so quickly in the side characters and characters we only meet once.

I wish I could give this story even more stars and I wish it had been longer because I didn’t want to leave this sweet little world. Great spin on a classic book!
