In this explosive one-hundred-page prequel companion novella, uncover the truth behind Number Five’s unknown history with the Mogadorians.
This sequel to I Am Number Four: The Lost Files: Five’s Legacy finds Number Five entering the ranks of the Mogadorian army. The Mogs have convinced him that they will be the victor in their war for Earth, and Five decides he would rather be on the winning side. Realizing that the only thing that matters is his survival, Five allies himself with the sworn enemies of the Lorien and pledges to help the Mogs take down the very people he was meant to protect. Is he too far gone to be saved? Discover how Five became one of Earth’s and Lorien’s most dangerous adversaries and decide for yourself.
Am I the only one who absolutely HATES five? Am I the only one who thinks he should pay for what he did to right? I'm personally excited to find out why Five turned to the Mogadorian's side. I get that he was alone and scared but he had a purpose-to serve Lorien.
eponymous-ey sentence: p28: Still, it somehow seems like a betrayal of trust, and I wish Ethan were here to tell me that it wasn't true.
formatting: p24: "Ow," I say, raising a hand to my right temple. "Headache?" "Yeah."
plot: p44: "No!" I shout, and before I know what I'm doing, I'm flying after him, diving and catching him right before he hits the surface of the bubbling lake. - I would have thought his telekinesis would be his first choice here.
And so we delve further into Five's fall from grace. The way these were published was pure genius: they serve to whet the audience's appetite for the next volume.
Relectura. Rey, Ethan, Emma.
DAYUM!!! Oh Gawd!!! This is brilliant!!! PHEW!!! *MC’s Corner* Note: Spoilers. • I pity Five on what happened to him. I think he’s the unluckiest among the living Garde. He’s so naïve and he’s easily fooled –brainwashed. I understand why Five sided with Mogs, the circumstances are really unfortunate. And its survival of the fittest, he’s going to do –side will evils –what is best for himself. I know he doesn’t think the Mogs are evil, like I said earlier he’s brainwashed. I hope you still have even an ounce of conscience inside you Five or you can rot in the pits of hell.
• I think he always listen to what his mind says not his gut or his heart.
• Five has the most coolest and awesome Legacies. DUH!!! I’m jealous for the other Gardes.
• I think there is still redemption for Five. Hmmm… 1 out of 10 maybe.
• I really like the part where Five is drawing. It’s childish and cute and he’s acting his age even with what’s happening around him.
• Yes I pity him but I still want to beat the shit out of him!!! *GRRRR*
• I am so proud of myself for not reading the excerpt from The Revenge of Seven. *CLAP* @gleekidMC
Can I hit Five?? Seriously, he's so annoying and I'd like to feel sorry for him, but I just can't. He made his decision and it's a stupid one even if he believes it's the only way to survive.
Well, in twenty four hours I'm going to be in New Orleans. However, before that, I'm going to be spending tonight in an airport, something that I'm somewhat concerned about yet also strangely excited (yeah okay, I love airports way too much). I predict I will finish at least two books.
Anyway, on to this book. I didn't expect to like it so much! During camp, I wasn't in the mood to read new books (cause dang, everything was new to me) and so I found myself rereading I am Number Four. It still holds up as a great series, even if I've grown up. I'm so hungry for more of this series so I read this.
I loved understanding more about Five and generally the Mog viewpoint. You really see Five's development, why he acts the way he does in the book. Seeing him grow to hate Nine already is fascinating.
Random point but it seems the Mogs have a blind faith in their leaders while the Loriens are consistently criticizing each other. This shows how ideally a political system should be able to self criticize but also you gotta admit the Mogs are better at achieving stuff. I'm left questioning if a group reaches better achievements if one person leads and everyone else follows blindly and if John would have an easier time had the others listened to him better. Am I reading too much into this?
Anyway, short but quite possibly my favorite Lorien novella (then again, I'm going to reread Nine's one soon). It's so good to be back on goodreads.
What I'm Taking With Me - Solo traveling again is weird, where are my 14 children? - Being in the states again makes it easier to picture a Mog invasion here. - Man, if this day doesn't end with all my stuff being stolen/ someone murdering me I'll be impressed. - I wish I could know what my Legacies would be.
Here's the thing, for the past few Files I have read, I have seen snippets of everyone mind at some point. That's the beauty of the Lorien Series, even the actual Novels gives us the minds of all the garde, at some point, yes confusing but it's all wonderful. This world is so concrete at well defined that you can almost see that this is actually real. And part of me does.
Now with Five's betrayal, I know Five has got to live, hence the I am officially one of them now. shit that he is saying, but now, I think I can say that he is not just the brainwashed garde to me anymore, he is just doing this to survive, that's what everyone wants right, whether he is loyal or not to the garde, he is just thinking about himself. Which is perfectly fine. Survival by the fittest.
As what Ethan said Do whatever it takes to survive. I knew he has a nose on what's going on.
I want to pick Revenge of Seven up, but you know the feeling that if you get into it, it might end too soon, just like what happened to me with Fall of Five.
Five is a brat! In his defense, his Cepan should have been better at his job. Reality is that life doesn't always go as you planned, more often than not. Because of his age and nativity and vulnerability, the Mogs have been able to brainwash him. I hope there is still a chance he will see the error of his ways before the series ends.
If you ever read the Lorien Legacies series, then you would know Number Five as the traitor, the turncoat. This book, the 9th addition to the “Lost Files” series, tells us about the time that he spent among the Mogs.
If you read Five’s Legacy, the 7th book in the series, you would know that Five, after losing his Cepan, was taken into the care of Ethan, who was secretly working with the Mogs. After a little while, Five also joined the Mogs and became loyal to them. Now he is looking for the other Garde to also join the Mogadorian Cause.
The book starts off with Five talking to himself about how he will rule over North America with the Mogs and how he is on the right side. It is pretty obvious to see that Five was seriously brainwashed. After this little session of Five talking to himself, the book goes to Five’s daily life with the Mogs. He is still good friends with Ethan and talks to him regularly, but the Mogs are the ones who are really telling him what to do. He follows their orders, does exactly what they tell him to do, and always looks for ways to please Setrakus Ra. Eventually, that crooked motivation gets him to kill one of his closest friends...
I was really hyped to hear that this book came out. Yes, Five is my least favorite character, but I did want to know what happened while Five was working with the Mogadorians. And let me tell you, I was not disappointed. Almost every part of this book was good. The writing style of this book was descriptive and had a lot of dialogue, with no excessively long paragraphs. I also really liked the characters, as they felt so real and lifelike. It really felt like they were right in front of me.
This book was a fun read and had tons of action to go with it. Sure, it’s not going to be the best or longest book on your reading list, but it will keep you entertained while you read it and you won’t be able to put it down. I personally really liked the book and would recommend it for a short and fun read.

The book I am Number Four the Lost Files Five's Betrayal was written by Pittacus Lore. Five's Betrayal places in the genre of fantasy fiction. Five is a young adolescent alien from Lorien. Lorien was a utopian planet far beyond ours, “There was once a place that was beautiful and lush and full of life and natural resources(Lore 1). The neighbouring planet was called Mogadore. Mogadorians grew neglectful of their planet. Mogadore was dying. Mogadorians began a search for new resources. With the strong leadership of Setrákus Ra, the Mogadorians attacked Lorien, destroying it in the process. Lorien saw the nearing end. They took nine children to earth, saving them from the destruction. These children would possess the powers of the ancient elders and save their kind as well as the earth. They will be known to each other in order of number. A charm was set so the children could not be killed out of order, making it harder for the Mogadorians to kill them all. Each of them with a guardian(Cêpan)to guide them to be their best. Five didn't have the greatest luck. His Cêpan, Rey, had an illness. Rey died when Five was young so he was left alone for a while. That is until a human man named Ethan took him in, to make him a strong as he believed him to be. As it turns out Ethan was working for the Mogadorians. Five had grown strong. They took him in. They made him one of them. They promised power and to rule at Setrákus Ra’s side. Five has to prove his loyalty with bloodshed before he can take power, “I haven't met him yet but I know he's here on the base with me. Locked up. They've tried to torture him, but that doesn't really work. He's protected by a magic, like I am. By a charm put on us when we were kids that keeps us from being hurt until our number is up. He is Nine. The Mogs want me to kill him. His is the blood that must be spilled for me to advance. He is my proof of loyalty”(Lore 14). The Mogs fed him lies about the Loric, “His Cêpan was smart. We we're still trying to negotiate and give 9 and his Guardian a chance to join our cause. The Cêpan was going to talk- to cut a deal with us- and when Nine found out, he murdered the Loric in cold blood.”-Deltoch”(Lore 24). During training one day, Five is hurt by one of the Mogs. He didn't believe this to be possible. Four is still alive, he has to be, there isn't a new scar on his ankle. The charm is broken. On the night of his initiation, the night he must kill Nine, there is an attack somewhere in the base. Four and Sam Goode(a human ally)break into the building to retrieve some things stolen from them in previous battles. The cause great damage, destroying much of the base. Five takes charge wanting to prove himself as a leader. Nine escapes with Four. Sam is accidentally left behind, taken, and tortured. Ethan is severely harmed during the battle. Nine can no longer be Five’s bloodshed. Setrákus Ra suggests Ethan is a rat who led Four to there base. He says he is a liability, he is weak. Five must now kill Ethan, his only friend, as his bloodshed to prove his loyalty. After Ethan died, he took his ranks, went through many lessons on what they've done in their time on Earth and what he will be expected to do after the rest of the Loric are dead. Five is looking through some of his possessions when he finds a letter writing by Ethan, moments before his death. In the letter he tells how he saw this coming and he forgives Five, as he was just doing as he had to, “By the time you read this, I’ll probably be dead-most likely by your hands… please don't think of me as a martyr. If there'd been any way of me escaping the Mogs for good, I'd have done so...let me leave you this last lesson: think for yourself...Question everything”(Lore 94). Five is given an assignment. He must go with the other Loric and act as a double agent. The book was from the view of the misunderstood villain. Things are not always as clear as they seem.
Pittacus Lore managed to write yet another engaging novella that keeps you wanting more. The universe of the series is expanding and I love it.
When number five first appeared in the series, I was happy that the garde were reunited but I didnt trust him at all. In Five’s legacies I came to like five. His insecurities, his laziness and his need to connect was something that I could relate to. But in Five’s Betrayal I went right back to where I started. Learning about what lead him to do what he did in the Fall of Five did not bring any kind of compassion. I don’t hate him but I don’t like him. I never trusted him anyway, so he could die I wouldn’t really care. I cant wait to see what’s in store for him in the Revenge of Seven and I hope there’s no redemption for him in the future that would really make the whole storyline suck.
Five sucks, wow. He had some serious anger issues. I don't really understand his logic hes being pretty irrational. How is it nine's fault? I can understand how he gets brainwashed but the only reason why he gets sprayed and washes because he already has anger issues and has narcissistic tendencies. Nothing is ever his fault. Everything is beneath him, he is worth everything he doesn't have to do anything at all hes perfect the way he is, he doesn't have to exercise or train everything is useless, he just wants to be lazy, he doesn't take anything seriously. He has no honor or self respect. I recommend reading this immediately after novella number 7 and after The Revenge of Seven.
I am going to keep all reviews for “The Lost Files” simple and how integral they are to the larger story.
Although this book isn’t amazing you definitely need it to understand why 5 betrayed his people and how he got where he did.
At this point you know about 5’s betrayal so it’s important to know what steps leads to this. Obviously he’s semi brainwashed but he obviously loves his power trip and literally flies around to show superiority.
The fact that him and 9 were in the same place is very cool and I actually think it’s a missed opportunity to not have them interact before (incognito) so really tie in their disgust for one another. It is crazy to think how ready this dude was to murder his own.
FIve really isn't that bright. He is being manipulated right and left by everyone and would do anything just for safety. This book actually shows how he becomes one of the Mogs leaders. Not really because he is powerful and leader material, like they like telling him to boost is ego. But just because they are using him to get to the others. It's really sad and pathetic and it's even worse because he just wants to prove how better than everyone else he is when he really isn't. I guess his lack in people skills and how to recognize bad people is due to him growing up with nobody around and it's sort of scary.

Five is honestly just terrifying and frustrating. I’ve never felt so ambivalent toward a character before in my life. After finishing the main series, my opinion on Five has indeed changed, and I can no longer say that I hate him. I like him now, I really do. I lot of change has happened (for the better) in "United As One." But reading this story just reminded me of how vulnerable and easily manipulated and flat-out UNHINGED Five used to be. Ugh I hate how he used to be.
P.S. I loved Ethan and he would’ve made an incrediblye Cêpan had he not been on the Mogs’ side. He could’ve been another Malcolm. Poor guy.
The read of Five's adventures and, in this case, the exploitation of the young, troubled mind, are chaotic, by design.
His continual being led astray by Alex, Deltoch and Setrakus Ra...a sad state of affairs. Had Rey done a better job of explaining to Five the importance of his upcoming abilities and their interconnectedness to the remaining Garde, we wouldn't have this character that you both loathe and feel sorry for.
I'm sad for the manipulation he suffered from and how it led him to trust no one, especially those of the Garde who really do want him to be a part of their world; the very thing Five longs for.
Five's Betrayal documents Five's journey in becoming Setrakus Ra's right hand man. Five's story is very intriguing. Unlike his fellow Garde, he was brought up in tough circumstances, making him feel different and more purposeful in life. His road to joining the Mogs army comes at a price, one he will come to regret. I liked this novella the best so far because I was able to better understand Five and his choices.
