Alone, unworthy, and afraid to love again, Grace can count a thousand reasons why she should not let anyone else into her heart. Seventeen-year-old Grace's life is turned upside down when she is sent to live with a Christian foster family on a Wyoming ranch. Along her tumultuous journey to belonging, she is confronted with God's grace, an unexpected love story, and a choice. Is the beauty of surrender worth the pain?
3.5 stars. I'm amazed Dana Beachy wrote this book at such a young age. She delves into so many deep themes every teen faces--love, belonging, acceptance. Grace isn't sure what to think of landing on a Wyoming ranch where her new foster family welcomes her with open arms. Is there a catch? Are they just being nice. She soon discovers much more than she expects. A little bit more telling than showing in some of the chapters, but I loved how Beachy included Scripture and truth woven into this tale. Her heart for the Lord is clear through all the pages.
I really liked the story of God's grace in this book. His people obeyed and reached out to Grace with love, kindness and compassion. The writing wasn't very captivating, though, and the love story between Grace and Caleb was a bit too predictable and distracting. I also would have liked to see more emotions from the Jennings family. They were almost too Christian. However, I appreciated the message of this book. "Saving Grace" could be a powerful tool to help young people see the love God has for them.
