This is a book that takes you on a wonderful journey, of lives past along with lives present, hunters against monsters, true love, betrayal, action, witches, secrets, beautiful bonds and so much love, passion, respect and more. Rolled up into this extraordinary book.
I couldn’t put this one down, I was enthralled in the passion of the writing and the characters. For their beliefs, love for each other, the bonds between them.
These characters are very believable, I could picture and feel each of them throughout the book, as they live their lives. Their connections are strong, the characters evolved throughout the book, they had drive, real conversations, real issues, fears, happiness and I could feel it. Everything jumped off the page at me, it was like I was a spectator in the book, with a front row seat.
It’s about hunters (who are nephillum) part Angel. They’re throughout the world, to save humans and keep the secret that monsters exist, like vampires, werewolves, witches and themselves.
Remy comes from a long line of hunters, in all her lives she’s been special a real bad ass hunter. She’s just turned 21, which is when hunter’s get to decide if they want to be hunters, or live as a human (if they choose human they loose a lot). Remy becomes a hunter and she’s amazing. She learns quickly, is intelligent and gifted. All hunters have a tattoo, but Remy’s tattoo shows some new amazing things. She’s also getting her memories back from her previous lives and some are quite startling. This is normal when becoming a hunter, that they get some, all, or most of their memories back. It helps them knowing what’s happened in the past, remembering rules, people they do and don’t know. Makes the transition much better to remember as much of the past as possible.
It’s so addictive waiting to see what she’ll remember, how it’ll effect her and those around her. What she keeps to herself, what she shares. Lucky she has a best friend Fallon the witch, that she can talk to, about her memories. Since they would throw many over the deep end.
Hunters have their rules they don’t deviate from. Their beliefs are well and deeply engrained in them. Too go against those beliefs if you’re a hunter can bring, true death. Death that when they die, they’ll never come back again. They also have elders, that do ceremonies, sentencing and all their elder duties.
Believe me when I tell you, I barely skimmed the surface of this book to give you my review. I don’t like to ruin anything for potential readers. I can’t wait for all of you to meet the rest of the gang Creek, Roman, Maddy, Able, her brothers Colt & Bower, best friend Fallen, Caine, her father and everyone else.
I highly recommend this book. It does have violence, hot sex scenes and swearing. The sex doesn’t take from the story, It’s a great story with passionate sex, not passionate sex in a bit of story lol. I dislike the later. So 18 and older I’d say. This is a first book in a series. I don’t know how many books there will be, but it can’t be read as a standalone.
I received a free copy of this book, to give my honest opinion in this review. These are my feelings about the book, after reading it.
I like the premise of this series. The Hunters ( the group which Remy belongs to) are elite and are supposed to police the Dracul and Shifters, now they are so bigoted that they kill them for no reason other than they are demons. Each Hunter is recycled back after they die, they get their memories back after some time and continue on the fight.
Remy has been recycled 12 times. At this time we get to see Remy being told that she is a Hunter who has been recycled and she has to complete the ritual so that she can get her memories. She does and her memories start trickling in, the memories shock her. In her past lives she was intimate with both the leaders of the Dracul and Shifters which is taboo for the Hunters. She can't tell her family because they will disown her but she also can not sit by and let people be killed just because they are different.
I liked her spunk, even though she had been indoctrinated for ages she still could discern right from wrong even before her memories came back. I wanted her memories to come at once because I didn't like the way the flash backs disrupted the story. I also did not enjoy getting to see her falling in love with her guys, her memories came and she remembered that she loved them, that was it.
I will be reading book 2, I want to see who is behind everything.
A new demon hunter book by Sloane Murphy... erm yes please!
When Remy discovers the world she knows is only half of the truth she embarks on a journey of self discovery. With the help of her friends and family she must uncover her memories of past life’s to understand her future. There are only three rules: One: Don’t tell humans what you are. Two: don’t kill the mundane Three: Don’t fraternise with the enemy. As Remy begins to remember who she is there will be love, mystery and danger.
I really enjoyed this first instalment of The shadow walkers saga. It’s creative and filled with twists. It is intended for an adult audience and will leave you ready for the next book.
I'm ok with the cliffhanger, I have the next books.
Fun characters, a really interesting plot, should definitely be a good series. Maybe it'll even turn up to be a great one!
I'm really enjoying the writing style, it's keeping me engaged and making the book hard to put down. I'm waiting for some more world-building and hopefully, it'll turn into an amazing book.
The first 100 pages are pretty slow and I found Remyvstrugglinf to remember her memories from her past life quite tiresome by the end. It started like an interesting concept, but got old.
The also had already had multiple relationships with the Harem members in her past lives, so I struggled to really engage in their journey, as most of it we don't see apart from the odd memory flashback and some, mostly cringey, sex scenes in the present.
The very ending made me think about reading the next, though, and the series definitely had potential. The Hunters in general are a bunch of ignorant asshole, though!
*Reverse Harem *Paranormal *FMC POV only *past lives *unique FMC *enemies as lovers *rival factions *multi-species harem *building harem (4) *fast burn 🔥 *1/6 Super series starter Ooofftt a series packed full of secrets and lies, this book keeps you intrigued from the very start 😁 Remy has spent her whole life believing she was one thing only to find out on her 21st birthday that there’s a whole other world out there that she and her family are a part of! And that’s when Remy’s past lives come into play….it’s a lot for her to take in, especially when she realises that all is not what it seems and she may be committing the ultimate betrayal 😳😳 There’s a fair bit of angst between the characters, particularly between the family 😬 not only that but there’s a war brewing between different supernatural fractions! Despite that between Remy, Kain, Roman and Creek there’s a fair bit of spice and a lot of sweetness - Kain is my man 🌶️😍 the only things is I would have liked a greater depth of description for the characters, you don’t really get a sense of their features as such. You get the sense that there’s a farrrrr bigger picture going on that our main characters are a part of , especially with that visitor and info drop right at the end!! The set up in this first book makes you really want to read the rest! 😄
This book could be good but unfortunately it is not. Which disappointed me, as I really liked the premise of the book. There are a lot of inconsistencies and flaws along with weird sentences structure and typos. It could be really good with the help of a good editor.
The good Hunters are reborn after they die. I liked this fresh take and think it could lead to really interesting plot twists.
The bad The book doesn't address the details of how the rebirthing happens. In fact some of the things mentioned contradict with other things. For instance how are the grandparents rebirthed to have the parents in order to have the kids and so on? Do the kids, birth the grandparents?? The book states that a person might not rebirth in the next cycle so what would happen if grandma didn't rebirth for a cycle? How would grandpa rebirth the parents and then the kids? Do the grandparents always have to get together if both are rebirthed? What would happen if a mom married a different man?
It states that if a kid is killed before being awakened at 21 then they are dead, dead. No rebirth for them. It also states that sometimes the elders punish people by not rebirthing a person for a set amount of cycles. It also states that if they don't do a ritual or leave when they turn 21 they can die since there memories are coming back. So how can a person who doesn't go through the awakening to restore his/hers/their memories after turning 21 not also die for real either from the memories returning or because he/she/them weren't awakened like the kids under 21.
The conflicting rules about rebirthing really wrecked the book for me since the rebirthing was the foundation of the book series.
The book had a lot of typos that a basic document program should have caught like straight up misspelled words or something like no space after a period. There was also weird sentence structure that caused me to stop reading so I could reorder the sentence or figure out the problem. For example "It is a force much powerful than any we are guided by." It read like the author started out with one type of tone and then changed it but didn't completely delete everything.
The premise for the book is good, I love what the concept is... but the writing needs to be refined. The complexities of dialogue and delivering sufficient world building relationships aren’t there. Everything feels a little forced, a little rushed. The big details are there but lack the small intricate details that would make the story and characters flow better. The FMC is not an ideal character for me but perhaps she gets better in the series, I just am not motivated to continue. DNF 12%
Ok y’all, when I tell you I enjoyed this book, know that I REALLY enjoyed this book.
Lets be real, a lot of the content in this book has been done before in different ways, but the author did such a good job putting her own spin on it that it felt completely unique. I loved Remy, loved her men, and loved Fallon, Marie, Colt (although he did let me down there in the end) and several other characters.
This book was pretty fast paced at times, and was easily overwhelming during a few scenes, but to me it made sense. Remy was quickly thrown into this world, so we were too. I would’ve liked seeing more calm moments between Remy and Creek, and seeing more of her memories, but you can easily tell that is coming in the next book. (at least I hope)
the world building and character development was pretty decent, although I would have liked more information on why the hunters seem to hate the other factions so much (besides the fact they kill humans). I would’ve also liked to see more memories with her mom, as she seems to be a big driving force in Remy’s life.
At times Remy’s character seemed a lot weaker than she actually was, and she constantly had to live up to her own shadow, but she was strong towards the end and I’m really looking forward to seeing her development and hopefully she turns into the badass we all know she is pretty soon.
Overall, what brought my rating down was the formatting. There would be new paragraphs in the middle of sentences, commas where there should’ve been periods and vice versa, and the dialogue was all over the place. I would have to reread a conversation two to three times just to understand who was saying what, as there were no new paragraphs in between people talking. This book definitely needs a little more editing, but it was still pretty enjoyable. (clearly lol)
All in all, I would definitely recommend this book and can’t wait to see what happens next! Especially with that ending.
4**** Okay, it’s taken me a while to figure out what exactly to say about this book. First let me say, I love the plot, characters, love interests and concepts etc. So many things to love, but why the missing star you ask?! I’m not taking them off because of the author necessarily. This star gets lost to the editors- there are soooooo many repeats in this book. Redundant explanations about relationships that take up too much of this book. For example, yeah, we get the main character’s mom wanted her to be her own person…. You told us a million times. And yes we know she felt abandoned by her brother and bestie. Again, it’s mentioned so many times. I would count them all but I have better things to do with my time (like read the next book in the series!). It makes me feel as a reader like the we are being treated like we are stupid and never got it the first time. I think issues like this should have been addressed by the editor. So for me, while this isn’t enough to make me dislike the books or stop reading the series, it’s enough to give it a 4/5. I still loved this book and can’t wait to start book 2…. Upwards and onwards!
I really enjoyed the start of The Shadow Walker Saga. It introduces what I believe are all the important players in series. I liked the whole rebirth thing, it was different, but not difficult to understand. Ohh, but because of the while rebirth thing, she has a few men that have a piece of her heart. I believe together they hold the key to a war that was started before their time, but one that they'll finish.💜
The only part of this that ticks me off is I need book 2 like right now!. Constant action, steamy scenes, twists...we know that douchey guy Archer will be back and is probably a bad guy, but that ending....hells yeah!!!! Need book 2 now! Get on it Sloane!!!!! Officially your fan :)
What a conflicted mess this main character was.. and then not at the same time. It was rough to read. OH, I FEEL SO BAD ABOUT BEING WITH KAIN WHEN I'M WITH CREEK AND CREEK DOESN'T EVEN KNOW ABOUT IT, BUT LET ME SCREW KAIN REAL QUICK WITHOUT A SECOND THOUGHT. She basically cheated on Creek. Kain knew how she was and made it clear he was okay with it from the beginning.
Something I don't get is how they supposedly didn't make it to her in time for some of her lives and that's how she ended up loving multiple people? I could MAYBE get that for Creek because she grew up with him each time that he was actually in that cycle, but the other times.. it doesn't seem like she'd meet Kain or Roman before she was old enough to start hunting. I guess she could've met Roman before she remembered Kain since it could take 6 months to fully get her memories back, but still seems doubtful.
Plus, what about the time Kain supposedly didn't interfere with her life because he didn't want to ruin her happiness that she'd made with Roman? So, she just didn't remember Kain that time somehow? Although, she's known him since her first lifetime? Then at another time it was mentioned that they weren't all in the same cycles together.. How does that work? Kain was always the same "person" and it seemed like Roman was too, basically that they were immortal. So, it's not like they kept coming back to life and had to regain their memories like her, and if they did... Why? They're not hunters.
"I say, and dive into the tale of how my memories came back about them, all three of them, and I pieced together that I loved all of them in different lifetimes, but in this lifetime, they were all here, all holding a piece of my heart. Willing to take me, however they could have me, if only I would love them too."
I HATE when it's one-sided. I can love all these men, but they can love me and ONLY me, or I'll be a jealous mess, and that just can't be because I'm the best thing since split toast and everyone knows it. The king of vampires, the alpha of lycan, and one of my fellow hunters will just all share me happily because they see my undeniable beauty and worth. UGH. There are so many fish in the sea; she's not that great. Especially for them to be willing to do it without it being equal on both sides.
A lot of grammatical errors.
Also, what ever happened to that envelope that some mysterious dude gave to her at her house? And how in the world did she so easily forget about it? And what about asking the Alpha and Vampire King about her back tattoos to see if they knew anything that could help? That was easily forgotten, but could've been extremely helpful considering she thought they looked familiar, plus they both have all their memories intact after all this time.
I'm really conflicted on this book. I like the premise of the hunters being reborn and them slowly regaining their memories. But at the same time I didn't like that with Remy and her guys, she has these dreams about all of them, and that is how she knows she is supposed to love them. We don't know if she would have if she didn't have those memories. So that part irks me a bit. I was also annoyed by the lack of anything really happening in this book. If I'm being honest I was bored most of the time reading this. This whole book was nothing but Remy having dreams, having sex with her 3 guys who she loves only because of her past, and boring interactions with her family. Nothing really happened. I kept reading, hoping for more and never got anything.
Everyone seems to have the same personality. Remy was so boring and so were the other characters. This was my first book by this author and I'm not sure i care enough to keep reading.
I’m ruined, officially ruined by @lilywildhart !! Ruin of Souls is absolutely everything I love about PNR RH books 💜
Remy is our leading lady and we’re taken along on a journey as she discovers who she really is. And turns out she’s one bad@ss chick! She’s lived lives, she’s killed the worst of the worst, and she’s loved some amazing men. But this life is different, and every chapter peels back not only parts of her past, but pieces of the puzzle she faces now.
I know I’m being vague but I flew sorta blind and I think you should too! @lilywildhart revamp of this series is stellar - it’s not vastly different from the original but it’s clear the time and effort to polish this beauty up was worth it!! The steam is great, the intrigue is high, and the drama is well … endless 🤣 I need all the books!!! Gimme gimme!!!
YES! She's back with a another fantastic paranormal book that draws you into the world that Sloane has created, and boy this world is so different to anything that i have read before,i love Sloane's book's and this is definitely up there with the best.Explosive!
We meet Remy who is a kickass hunter that has been reborn twelve times but who is now just coming into her own after her 21st birthday as a hunter with angel blood she was born to be.We meet her love interests of Creek,Kain and Roman who should be enemies but in past lives she has always loved them.I love all the chemistry she has with each of all the red hot alpha males,i mean what is not to love with all these red blooded hot males all asking for a piece of Remy.
There is lots of twists and action throughout this reverse harem fantasy story with explosive out comes, i always know that i won't be disappointed when i pick up a book from this author and i love being proved right with this amazing story that is a page turner but bugger that ending has floored me wanting to find out about the angel,i now need the next book like yesterday.Five huge stars.
I don't recall reading this author before but I'm really liking this first book of the series. One over my fav genres to read is paranormal to begin with. I love the set up along with a bit of back story. Of course the romance of the main character, Remy, a Hunter, falling in love with with someone not of her faction drives the story but she is only just remembering that after her awakening. The Hunter world continues to expand as Remy's memories continue to reveal themselves. And with them the love and pain of so many lives lived and all the secrets she has so closely guarded from her family and friends. While Creek, her brothers best friend and fellow Hunter pines away for her to remember him and what they share, she secretly dreams of erotic lovers from past life cycles. Lovers from other factions such as Lycan and Dracul. Memories she guards closely lest she is cast out of the Hunter faction of even excuted.
I enjoyed this book so much I read it in one day. I'm moving on to the next book in the series!
This is the first book I have read by author Sloan Murphy. I gotta say loved it. I will be reading more for sure. Remi’s life is about to change. She doesn’t know it yet but nothing will be the same. One minute she’s preparing to go to pre med in school, she’s engaged to some else in med school Jack, preparing for 21st. Birthday and the arrival of her brother and her best friend Creek..who she hasn’t seen in over a year. At her moms anniversary of her death dinner, her father tells Remi The truth about who she is. She can remain human or become a hunter. She learns that she has in fact been reborn several times in fact.. of course she doesn’t take the news well and runs .it isn’t til she’s attacked that she makes the decision to become a hunter and her memories start to return.. The book does end in a cliffhanger as it’s a series but it’s so good.. I really liked Remi and I can’t wait to read more!!
Remy is a BADASS! She has no idea who she is... Yet! But she's a freaking legend and so she should be!
And the guys, eugh I'm so jealous of Remy 😂 they all bring something different to the table, all trying to protect her in their own way. And their love for her outshines any jealous or possessive feelings over her.
Roman was my favourite because I can't resist a broody alphahole but I think Levi just knocked him down a notch after that entrance 🔥
Don't get me wrong the journey is not easy! And man that cliffhanger and that entrance of Levi 🥵🥵 *swooooooon*
When I decided to read this book, I had no idea what I was getting into. I’ve always loved the idea of past lives so it was really cool to ride along with Remy as she started to remember the past lives she lived. I thought it was amazing and kind of out of the box thinking, the way that the author introduced reincarnation and how it plays into the monster hunter aspect of the book. I thought it was really interesting to see who was going to be a player in Remy’s harem. I expected the first 3 since Remy remembered those lives the most, but I was not expecting the 4th member. I am very excited to find out more about Remy’s past lives and how her story continues.
This is one stunning story. It is jammed packed with action and drama. It is such an original story with magnificent characters. I was drawn in from the beginning and unable to put it down. Yes, it does end in a cliffhanger and lord I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. Remy is strong and feisty. She is also charming and caring. She is a kick butt and take names later kind of lady. I loved the support characters and all their glory. The descriptions are vivid and their personalities are felt throughout the story. This is a must read and doesn’t disappoint!!!!!
Remy finds out her life is only half the truth on her 21st birthday. She finds out the monsters are real. She is part of the Shadow Walker world and has had other lives. Remy is on a quest to discover her past lives. A reverse harem past life and all that goes with it.
I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am leaving a review.
Good concept, frustrating enough a reason to invest in the ones who go through it. not the first time I've read a book with recycling nephalim souls, but it's rare to find ones that work well in the puzzle they find themselves in.
our FMC is strong fierce and mind melding hundreds of past years. finding out her heart and mind know and want more than the guild will ever allow
A few spicy moments, a few smutty passionate scenes. good chemistry, banter and world.
