No visible signature but this lovely and distinctive cover is almost certainly Harry Nørstrand's work and well suited to this ball of fluff story.

There is a young, violet-eyed, spoiled, rich, innocent daddy's girl named Erica starved for affection and attention because her father doesn't care for anything beyond his business deals. There is a dark, handsome, virile, aloof, cultured, patient hero Raphael from an old and wealthy Mexican family who the h mistakes for an older woman's boy toy. Within a few days of meeting in Acapulco, after spending almost no time together, Erica, who's irate that her father is ignoring her asks Raphael to marry her. Raphael says no, no, that's not how it's done in my tradition I'm asking you to marry ME. Neither seems to care why the other agrees. They are quickie married by a priest an hour later.

They consummate the union. Erica had intended to skip out prior to this so she could report all to her father who would be satisfyingly furious while handling the annulment but she couldn't help herself—Raphael's foreign man moves were just that smooth—Erica sneaks away during the night.

Janet Dailey, the queen of subtle. But somehow I can't work up the appropriate level of ire for the bratty brat girl who's all terrible and immature and who needs to grow up before she'll deserve a wonderful guy like Raphael. Why the focus on the girl's flaws when there's an elephant sitting at the grownup table: the sheer idiocy of this type of HP hero, oh so mature, marrying a young woman he barely knows. And as always ending with author dignifying hero's hard-on induced stupidity as love at first sight. So implausible and irritating as heck yet this once the unusually understanding hero, and the cover of course, lift the story to a weak 3 stars.

What an awesome story! It was so sweet that he loved her enough to risk it all by marrying her when she asked him. He was so right about her selfish dad and the would be lover was no better then him. The hero was one hell of a guy. Stuff romance dreams are made of. Loved it.

Finding love and wanting to get married left Erica Wakefield in a situation that she had to find a way out of. She was already married, even if it was only suppose to last an hour it had somehow lasted nearly two years even though no one knew of it. Running into her husband at a dinner that she was attending with her father and the man she was hoping to marry she discovered his name, Rafael de la Torres and that he was nothing like what she thought he was. After they finally had a talk, she was shocked to learn that he had no intention of letting her out of the marriage, annulment was not and option and he refused to give her a divorce without a fight that would put her impulsive act of defiance front and center for her father to see.

This is an older book (a re-release of a 1976 book) so that or the fact that this is an early book for Janet Dailey, either may have something to do with the awkwardness that I felt with this one. The use of a thesaurus was obvious, and at times annoying (I don’t like the use of a $5 word if a smaller one works just as good and in some cases, better). This story is written from just the Erica’s point of view, which I guess is ok, that left some of Rafael’s thoughts and feelings as - well not a surprise, it was all pretty predictable - but surprising in his intensity. I did like Rafael, but not getting his side of the story was disappointing to me.

A weird one this is. The girl is just a bratty youngster out to grab daddy's attention. She comes up with several tricks, dad doesn't care a hoot, so she decides on a shocker. Get married stealthily to a fortune hunter while on a holiday. The only purpose being to irk daddy enough so that he would start loving her !?!?!?

What could have been a hopeless, mediocre affair is made tolerable by the hero.

He is a gorgeous Latino hunk, tolerates the girl's tantrums and still loves her. She runs away from him after the hasty marriage, but he holds on. She wants a divorce so that she can marry another daddy like tycoon. The hero reasons out with her on the follies of her plan ! He kisses, cajoles, cares - all the while hoping she will realize how truly suited they are to one another.

The only connection she acknowledges with the hero is physical, otherwise she is hell bent on insulting and opposing him. Comes across as a bratty when young, shrewish when older.

The final parting shot delivered by the hero with a weary agreement to divorce is the best part of the story. Finally the girl wakes up, runs after him and all is well.

Janet Dailey is awesome in portraying the H’s in her books. The things they do, the things they saw. Hot, strong, raw men. Irresistible men. Love it.

Είχε παντρευτεί μ' αυτόν τον όμορφο άντρα - που τότε νόμιζε ζιγκολό - σε μια στιγμή οργής και απελπισίας, για να προκαλέσει τον αδιάφορο πατέρα της.

I've been on a Janet Dailey kick lately. Old classic romance. Loved this one from years ago and still do.
