With a wedge at last driven between Mat and Dougie Carmichael, courtesy of Nikolai Petrovic’s expert manipulations, the brothers must each accept their new path Dougie, a perfect slave, sweet and obedient and loving. Mat, a tightly reined dog, snarling and snapping but never allowed to bite.Unfortunately, no transformation, however well planned, is without its growing pains. Mat’s leash is so tight it’s choking him. Dougie is tormented by a little voice inside his head — a fragment of his former self — that he cannot silence. And Nikolai’s most difficult tests for the brothers are still to come. The critical question isn’t whether they can pass those tests, but whether they even want to. Without each other to lean on and live for, a bleak future has become bleaker still. But Nikolai’s too good to let his slaves slip through his fingers — by death or by despair. Reader discretion advised.

Holy Fuck!!! THAT ending is just… So. Not. Fair.

FC#7Dougie

What I always find so startling about this series is the impact it has on me as a reader… and just how these two very talented authors manage to evoke such powerful emotions. Even just picking up the 7th episode in this totally compelling series… the heart starts pounding and I can feel the anxiety creeping in and the pain of these two boys all at once becomes renewed.

Nikolai has manipulated and coerced Mat and Dougie perfectly in his strategic game plan, both now alone with no hope and Nikolai the victor to come in and pick up the pieces of their shattered souls and hearts. This book mainly concentrates on Dougie and Nikolai, we see a little of Mat, now a broken man who now see’s himself as no better than Nikolai, a monster, tortured by his part in that room with the “sick fuck pedo client.

Dougie is so deeply enchanted by the perfectly woven spell, that is all Nikolai, that he is actually confusing his emotions, so scarred of being alone he now see’s Nikolai as his saviour… the man that will take away all his pain, fear, hurt and feelings of abandonment and in return he requires obedience and devotion by making Dougie feel loved and cherished, similar to a well behaved pet/slave… and for this Dougie is grateful!!! Even his voice of reason, although it hasn’t abandoned him, he chooses to ignore it, whilst his inner monologue is on full survival mode, urging him to please his master… there was a lot of kindle shaking and excessive use of profanities going on, I can tell you!

This episode of The Flesh Cartel is all about positive nurturing… (in other words, just another mind fuck) So fear is not an inherent part of the boys training, instead they are treated with kindness and in Dougie this manifests as a need and want to please without the fear of consequences, a time to unravel from all that torture and consciously analyse where he has been, and what is now offered to him freely without the confusion of the hope that had for so long kept him defiant, but above all sane. Don’t for one minute think Nikolai has gone soft, Oh no, he still wants a disciplined slave/pet, but at this stage he is willing to overlook mild transgressions in favour of Dougie’s honesty and willingness to please … how very generous of him! More like lulled into a false sense of security! Dougie is resigned to his new life, a broken boy with all fight gone, pliant in the hands of the man that had raped, and tortured, and abused him both mentally and physically.

FC#71

We learn a little of Nikolais past… almost made me feel sorry for him, I was also nearly there with all the kindness and affection he showed Dougie… does he love him? I thought so at one point and then he goes and spoils it all again… that bloody man is a conundrum and confuses the hell out of me, and totally pissed me off with the throw away comment he gave as an explanation for Dougie’s future, and made me cry because Dougie was so lost at that point… it just broke my heart and there is also Roger, a man we have hardly touched on but I am also feeling sympathy for him too! Nikolai is so on my hit list… where is Silvio when I need him?!?
These two authors are definitely up there in the echelons of the great writers in this genre, and without a doubt two of my favourite authors, especially when they ensure the adrenaline junkie in me get’s it’s fix. Rachel and Heidi never fail me, but continue to astound me with this gripping and very addictive series… and so the love affair continues.

The cover says it all. Dougie has been brainwashed to a point of no return.

This is just quotes from the book i call review.

Nikolai hadn’t thought of his mother in a long time. He’d failed her, in the end—failed to anticipate her loss of purpose when his mentor had died, failed to staunch her despair, and worst of all, failed to predict the bloody mess she’d make of herself and his mentor’s en suite in time to save her life—and his memories of her were always tinged with sadness now, with a sense of preventable loss, with the chastisement of irresponsibility. He’d vowed never to make such mistakes again. Never to so disastrously misread another in his care. He owed them more than that.

Umm! Nope i will not feel sorry for Nikolai, here we learn about his past, it was shitty but that is not an excuse.

I was so mad at Dougie, and his willingness to serve Nikolai in every possible way, his survival mechanism sucks.

“Come here,” he called, and Douglas obeyed, remembering to watch his posture, his stride. Very pleasing, the whole of it. Nikolai smiled. Held the plug up for Douglas to see. “There now. I know you’ve come to associate these with discomfort, but that needn’t be the case. Quite the opposite in fact. Come, spread your legs and I’ll show you.”
Again Douglas obeyed without hesitation, draping his upper body over the bed and spreading his legs out wide behind him.Nikolai lubed up the little plug and teased Douglas with it, stroking up and down his crack “See?” he said when he was done. “Tell me how that felt.”
“N-nice, sir,” Douglas said, voice taut, as if the admission had been ripped from his throat. “Scary at first, but then nice.”

Dougie!

description

We only get Mat's POV in the last book, and the boy is tired and has given up. My heart ached for him

Mat had been a fighter long enough to know that bruises faded and fractures knitted back together, but some injuries never went away. Like brain damage that got worse and worse and worse until there was nothing left of you but a shell.
And this pain? The one he was feeling now? Was the kind that festered and grew by torturous inches until it killed you.
Well, fuck that. Because Mat didn’t have to stick around for it. He was a monster anyway; the world would be better off without him. Dougie would be better off without him. At least then Nikolai couldn’t trick him into hurting Dougie anymore.

As much as i am a masochist, for now i have reached my limit. Let me go back to Greg Tremblay. This series is getting darker, i will come back later.

eeeeh! stop it dougie, stop it!

There are no spoilers from Homecoming, but there will inevitably be some from Captured, Auction, Choices, Consequences, Wins and Losses, and Brotherhood. (Contains cussing and explicit scenes.)
4.5 How could he have abandoned--no, shoved away the most important person in the world to him? Stars.
(Someone please direct me to the correct blood pressure meds that I should take!)
Jesse, wazza fuck
The heartbreak, the betrayal on Dougie's face, was the single most painful thing Mat had ever laid his eyes on.

Me: Ermehgerd, that was bleuuurh!
Book: ...
Me: Bleuurh!
Book: Ok...

Mat has been suffering from his decision to stop Dougie's trust. Suffering, suffering, and suffering. Enough is enough, he has to do something.

Dougie has broken, he's no longer suffering. Nikolai is sweet and caring and will never do him harm unless he deserves it.

I didn't look at ze blurb, no spoilers for mwa!

Regardless, he couldn't stay under the covers much longer, because this wasn't a lazy Sunday. Lazy Sundays were for free men. Not their pets.

Designated chapters for the Mat and Dougie! And even a bit from Nikolai!

When I started this one, I thought this is one of the "lighter" reads in this series. There is a lot of Dougie...and this girl HATES Dougie...

AND then the last freaking 2-3 pages...

Heart breaking...must read next one asap!!

This series is amazing and even better when you have a friend to hold your hand through it...thanks for BR Em...

OH, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, WHY DO I KEEP LETTING THESE TWO SADIST FUCK WITH MY HEAD! I am ready to bitch slap Dougie and I'm scared Mat has now lost his fucking mind. Nicolai, oh how I want to give him a large dose of his own pain induced, mind fucking medicine. Ahgg! The cliffhanger just sucked hind tit on top of everything else! Now I'm going to beg like Dougie and say, "Please make this crazy assed shit stop!"

4.5 stars, rounded up!
For me the weakest part yet... I liked the dual, Dougie and Mat's, POVs.
This time we're too much in Nikolai's head and too little in Dougie's... :(
And Mat? His presence is only a cameo this time... :(
It also has the biggest cliffhanger among all the parts I've already read... Off to part 8, people!!!

Another good installment to this series. The majority of this one is about Dougie and how Nikolai has now changed tactics after helping Dougie recover from his ordeal from the last segment. The mindfucking is as prevalent as ever as Nikolai's plan of action is to now earn Dougie's trust through kindness. All goes well, until Nikolai says something that snaps Dougie back to realization of his situation.

Nikolai opens up a bit here and there so that we learn some new tidbits about his past.

We do get to see a little bit of Mat. Unfortunately, he is struggling more than ever with guilt over his betrayal of Dougie in the last story. He is reaching the breaking point, and I'm curious to see if Nikolai has a plan to pull him back.

Oh, and this one ends on a big cliff, so bring on the next chapter!

This episode focuses mostly on Dougie and his interactions with Nikolai following the events in the last book.

We only briefly see Mat, who is so broken he has basically given up. Nikolai has left Roger to tend to him, knowing he cannot approach Mat at this point so he spends his focus on Dougie. Nikolai is working his magic, fully immersing Dougie in the mindf@ckery that he knows will convince Dougie that Nikolai loves him and only wants what is best for him. Nikolai does open up to Dougie somewhat so we learn some about his history and what brought him to his mentor.

There is a huge cliffhanger at the end of this one so be prepared to want to jump right to the next.

Six Stars. Feel the need to gush, I just love this dark series! I had to read it twice to absorb all the nuances, I could highlight the whole thing on my kindle.. Another episode gone in a flash, leaves us on a cliffhanger too!
description
This part concentrates on Nikolai (the bastard) attempting to win Dougie's true submission through kindness this time. Dougie actually approaches Nikolai to make love to him but Nikolai ruins it by referring to Dougie as a 'hole'. Dougie's nagging inner voice overcomes his attempt at self-deception leaving him in despair.

We also learn that Nikolai was abducted aged 5 along with his mother in order to become the heir to his mentor.

Meanwhile Mat remains in his bed not eating and overcome by depression at having let Dougie down.

I'm not the biggest fan of Dougie, so this Dougie-centric story doesn't win a lot of favours for me. I actually like the very short last chapter about Matt much more than the rest of the story, so that was the saving grace for me.

It's nice to finally see Dougie cast some doubt over the whole situation. Finally we're seeing an ounce of backbone, very minor awareness and masked rebellion on the whole situation. It's time to wake the f*** up Doug!!

Unfortunately for me, this particular book didn't stand out for me as a whole, but I'm sure the next one will be really good because of the cliffhanger ending!!

Carrots for everyone!

Well after last episode's spectacular clusterfu@k! We've decided to not completely destroy the toys by not giving them the stick mercilessly as they recover. So carrots it is.

Again Doug, seriously...we're having this conversation? We've had it before--EYES on the ball. Focus, you're smart enough--Don't be weak!

To say I'm unhappy with Doug is an understatement. He can do better. Now Mat. Jesus H Christ! Get rid of the albatross or succeed now--because where you are now is a mire, the doldrums of your mind--never moving and not the slightest hint of it.

Loved the ending. Unfortunately, I don't think it going to go the way I hope so preparing for disappointment in episode #8.

I waited all book for a glimpse of Mat, and when it comes?

Thank goodness I know that there are future books, and Mat is in them, or I'd be trashing my poor kindle right now.

Sadly, I don't care as much as I should for Dougie. The only reason I have for caring for Dougies right now, is because of what he means to Mat. I hope that changes in future books, and I start having a heart again when it comes to Dougie, but for now, I'm all about Mat.

(sorry for the over run of SPN gifs, but nothing says brotherly love, or brotherly heartbreak like SPN)

This episode focuses mostly on Dougie. Nikolai is still being very caring and nurturing since the baseball bat incident and his brother's supposed betrayal. He even gets to go for a walk outside and indulge in some of his favorite foods. But with one uttered word from Nikolai, the illusion is shattered and Dougie is again left in despair.

So, so, so good. This story just gets better and better. Dougie and Mat, my heart hurts for you every episode. More and more I'm drawn in and I really hope there is a light at the end of the tunnel. If not, I think I'll drown.

Good heavens...this is such a mixture of...

And how everything can change with the utterance of just one word...

”Hole.”

I’m so in love with all these characters and yet still feel so mentally and physically violated at the same time.

Just wow. Can’t wait for more.

Dougie tries to love Nikolai and to enjoy pleasing him, but he just can't. I'm very worried about Mat. He can't forgive himself for how he thinks he's let Dougie down.

What can I say. No sooner had I put it on my currently reading shelf and I was back marking it as finished. Plus, this edition was not anywhere near my favourite. I am becoming slightly worried about my addiction to this series.

I do have complaints about this one though. Two, actually. I wanted so much more of Matt. He is the character that stole my heart at the beginning, so he is the one I want to read about the most, plus that ending damn near killed me. What an ending. Now I have to wait until the end of the month for the next one. How mean is that?

In this episode, we learnt a few little tidbits about Nikolai, and I must admit that I found that fascinating. Wished there was a little more about his beginnings.

Doug is the centre of this story though, as I have found him to be throughout most of this, but I do have hope that I will get to see more of my beloved Matt next time. So until then, I will be waiting with baited breath.

Oooooh the cracks in Nikolai's armor is showing.

The insight into Nikolai's mind is actually a little (a lot) unsettling. He's such a constant that to see such a blatant reminder that he is, after all, human, is kind of creepy in an annoying way. I feel like this is giving me false hope.

This one's mostly about Dougie with a bit about Mat towards the beginning and the end.

The cover's gorgeous. Absolutely amazing. You totally get a sense of the story and it's quite deliciously creepy. I spent so long staring at it in a sort of fascinated horror.

This may have been the most heartbreaking episode of all. There was really no physical violence, no mental violence, no real emotional violence; everything seemed actually calm. But one little word... 4 tiny letters... and I have to say that I did that, "Oh, nooooooo!" when I read it. My heart didn't actually break, it more dissolved into tiny little pieces. It affected me far more than even the Terrible Cliffhanger. Heidi and Rachel have done their job very, very well.

Again, this is not an easy tale to read; it's not for everyone, but damn, it's good. :)

I finally picked up the next part of the series and it still makes me nervous to turn around the pages and to know more about Dougie and Mat's fate. Learning more about Nikolai was an interessting aspect of this book. However, as I like to read about Mat, I felt it a too focussed on Dougie. After the difficult previous part, I was excited to read about Mat's thoughts and feelings. Horrible cliff hanger at the end! 3 stars for this part!
