Aly is finally graduating high school and can officially begin her life with Jake in New York in their own place. Doubts still plague them both, but they believe that love will be enough to get them through anything. That is until they don't believe it anymore. Truth of the matter is...life is unfair. No matter the struggles they both have overcame in the past...the future will throw more in their way. It is all in how they will handle those obstacles...

If you are expecting a fairy tale...move along. This book is so far removed from the fairy tales Jake and Aly once believed in. Real life is not beautiful all the time. And once the problems start mounting, we see the real Jake and Aly. Sometimes it will be hard to handle.

There were times I wasn't happy with these characters. But it made me love them and the book that much more. I understand people change and need to experience things. I understand that they are no longer the teenagers we first met. So I was able to grasp that they are not going to be the pushovers they were back then either. I had to deal with the grown up (or growing up) version they have turned in to. Like I said, made me love them more. And appreciate them more. Still doesn't mean I have to like their choices.

Such a great ending. I cannot wait to see what comes next for these kids. Don't expect all the answers when this book closes. But do expect a need and a want for the next book in the series. Loved this book so much. 5 Stars!

I can't help but fall more in love with this story as each installment releases. Jake and Aly are a dynamic couple that have a love most people can only wish for. As you watch them begin to build a life together, you can't help but be pulled into their world. Be prepared to fall in love again as you follow along their journey where you will share the heartbreak of tragedy and loss as well as earn the rewards of hard fought triumph.

Will they be able to overcome their insecurities and focus on their future or will the life they have always wanted be lost forever?

I don't like Jake anymore he just an Ass I'm sorry. I loved Jake in the first book and I forgave his mistakes but enough is enough this zebra didn't change his stripes and Jake it's time to go.

**JOSIE'S REVIEW**

Wow, where do I start?! I have had the honor of reading all the books in this series including 2 of the Novellas. Each book was incredible but Broken Notes surpassed my expectations. Ms. Frohoff did such an amazing job with this book that when I was finished reading it, I had to re-read it because of all the emotions I was left feeling. Broken Notes deals with so many different topics: family revelations, betrayal, drug and alcohol abuse, loss, past relationships, jealousy, insecurities and self-discovery. I cried, laughed, screamed and even did a Woot Woot while reading this book. I loved every moment of it.

Alyssa and Jake are starting a life together in New York City. They are sharing an apartment and are committed to each other. Changes, tragedy and secret revelations put a damper on their new found life and the couple is faced with news decisions. Alyssa has grown up a lot since her break up with Jake years ago. She wants more than living in the shadows of Jake’s career. She wants an education and to play volleyball professionally, the only problem is Jake. Jake feels that Alyssa’s decision to continue her career will only mean the couple will make the same mistakes. Jake is going through a hard time in his life. His friend and band mate is ill, he’s about to go on tour with someone from his past and Alyssa will only marry him when she finishes school.

Jake and Alyssa will go through some hard times over a period of months. There are misunderstandings, space and the ultimate betrayal that left me with a pit in my stomach. The author wrote this story and the characters in a way that I felt connected to them. I could feel their pain, joy and accomplishments. Once I read page 1 I could not put the book down. I was intrigued and captivated with every page. I loved how the author showed the Alyssa’s growth and how she showed us Jake’s human and fallible side even though he is a rock star. There is so much that happens to the couple and the side characters that I could not help but feel what each of them went through. This is a trilogy and at the end of the book I really liked that we got a glimpse of what is too come in the next book. I loved the beginning, middle and end of this book and I can’t wait to get my hands on the third book.

**********May contain a slight spoiler***********

If angst is your constant companion in life than this is the perfect book for you to rest your head upon.If you enjoy your main characters breaking up & making up & breaking up & making up ad nausea than you in for an enormous treat. The female lead is like a weather vane she goes with the wind wherever it blows. She is an unstable, indecisive, selfish individual. The male lead is a mess of catastrophic proportions. He knows not love but obsession. There is no growth in his world.During his periods of separation from the 'love of his life' he fills his silence with women as broken as he is in a constant cycle of despair, drugs & destruction.

This is not an epic love.My idea of it is a man so distraught he withdraws from life, grows a beard, joins the Tibetan monastery while plotting how to get his girl back, not one that becomes entranced & obsessed with every damaged woman he meets & publicly screws while still attempting to gain the attention of that one female lead. This series is like a train smash. You don't want to participate in it but you can't resist climbing aboard for the ride.

I will be reading the next book just to see how he interacts with the new broken doll he has in his line of sight & how it impacts the 'love of his life' this time although she should be used to his behavior by now.I foresee nothing new.It will be the same rinse & repeat in an otherwise a beautifully written book that has not very logical situations.

Ack! I'm such a masochistic reader. I KNEW that this book was going to ruin my life, but did I listen to my head? Nope. And now my heart is in pain and life sucks and why did you do that Annie?! Everything was so lovely at the beginning and then BAM, heartbreak, confusion, jealousy and other unbalanced feelings.

Broken Notes, besides from breaking my heart, was terrifically awesome. I could not stop reading about Jake and Aly as they set out to live together in New York. It was a different reading experience as they are all grown-up now in comparison to the first book when they were barely in high school and I liked their new independence. However, this new life brings a whole new set of problems and wow, they sure are really tough ones. It's a full-on roller-coaster ride that never stops!

Aly and Jake are such a mess of characters. Don't get me wrong, they are beautiful, but greatly flawed. I've grown quite attached to them since I've been following their lives for a while now, so it pains me to see them rise and fall as life hits them where it hurts the most. I love them as a couple, I want to see them live happily ever after, but their relationship is so unhealthy and complicated that I don't see how they could ever work out permanently. And, it's not their fault, it's just how they got to live life, Jake as a rock star and Aly as someone wanting to be more than a rock star's girlfriend.

Between you and me, I have to admit that if I had to pick a side, I would totally support Jake's. This guy has A LOT going on in this book with the death of a dear friend *SOBS*, a shocking secret exposed, the pressure of fame, etc., so he was bound to crack a bit. But throughout the whole book, he never stopped showing Aly how much he loved her, and how much he wished to spend the rest of his life with her. Aly, on the other hand, was constantly whining about how she didn't think she was set for a life as complicated as Jake's and that she needed someone to be there for her instead of said guy focusing on his dying friend. Um, WHAT? Beach. Okay, okay, I'm being a bit unfair here. Aly does deserve a chance to pursue her dreams, and Jake is no saint either, but still, she was a bit selfish during that part of the book and I cannot get over it. But I do respect her decision to finish university first before settling down. Agh, picking sides is hard, that's why they should be together forever.

Sorry about this review/rant, but I can't find another way to express my feelings about this book. It dragged me into its pages and I feel as if the characters' problems were my problems, or at least, as if I were a friend and their choices affected me as well. I actually feel like shouting because it's not fair how things develop and that ending is SAD (for me at least). And, you know what is even sadder? That sneak-peak of the second novella. Another kick to my fragile heart!

But I loved everything about this book even though I didn't want the paths Aly and Jake take. It's their lives and they are living it, and there's nothing I can do about it but sit tight and suffer along with them. Truly hard to believe they are only characters! Now I'm off to mope around the house trying to drown my feelings for this book in hopes that the next book comes out soon. I need it, please!

Now that Aly has graduated, Jake is expecting her to move to New York so they can finally be together, but New York doesn’t offer the opportunities that she has in California when it comes to competitive volleyball. She decides to postpone her college decision until the following spring and hops on a plane to be with Jake.
Jake is excited to start his life with Aly, although he does drag his feet when it comes to telling his old girlfriend what is going on. Yep, he’s what I’d call an avoider -- doesn’t want to deal with anything too messy.

They finally get things worked out but bad news about Dump’s medical condition knocks Jake off his game. In the midst of dealing with Dump, he comes to realize that Aly’s opportunities are in California and he does the right thing, even though it devastates both of them. He’s left alone to deal with a breakup and Dump’s condition. I really felt for him during this part of the book, because it was clear he needed a friend. When things take an unexpected turn with another woman, I could easily see him turning to someone else for comfort.

Meanwhile, back in California, Aly is getting close to Nathan again, setting up an explosive ending for the book and this young couple.

When I finished Fever Pitch, the previous book in this serious, I had all sorts of questions about Jake’s commitment to their relationship. In Broken Notes, he had all my sympathy and I love it when an author can make me change how I feel about a character.

From a story content point of view, I’m loving the complications between Jake and Ally and I’m eager to see how the events at the end of the Broken Notes will get resolved, or if they can. At times the action seems a bit choppy though, and I would like less internal narration telling me how characters feel, and more dialogue and action showing it. Sometimes scenes just seem to end, only to get picked up chapters later, and that can take me out of the story, so I’d love to see a new level of writing in the next book.

Overall, great story that crosses YA to NA. Jake and Ally are complicated, and I like that about them. Seems very much true to real life. Can’t wait to see how this all turns out!

Reviewed for Confessions From Romaholics

Broken Notes is the long waited second novel in the Heavy Influence series and continues 3 months later from where the previous book let off with a bang and continues that way for all the book. It a fast paced book that is jam packed with twists and turns and heartbreak. Back home now in the USA, Aly is about to finally graduate high school and officially begin her life with Jake in New York. However Aly got hesitations about her future and Jake is determined to have her with him forever. All he needs is Aly and his music, and everything else is fine. However Jake is a worrier and doubts start to seep in and with doubts comes heartache and problems. Life is never straight forward and I thought we would finally see the struggles being overcome. However for this couple it never has been so simple.

This has never been a simple love story, the love is there but love is never only enough and we have see this couple have their highs and their lows. However this book took it to a new level and will put you through the ringers. This series is one you have to need read for yourself as there so much spoilers that happen in this book and it better to experience them for yourself. It started of as a mature YA but now it a become a new adult where it totally raw and confronting . Jake struggles except what life has dealt him despite only wanting two things. Whilst Aly she unconditionally loves him that she forgives him for things that would make most people take a step back. It a relationship that should be torn apart as it toxic for everyone involved. But when the word toxic is involved you have to know that we are in for a read.

I want to wish that there was less anguish and tension in this relationship , it is starting to get a little bit old now that are supposed to be older and growing . But I know this what makes the relationship special. There is so much going against them and never easy when the characters have such lives and there is so much going on. I love the author style of writing and she makes it worth the wait every time .

4.5 couples.

Welcome to another wild ride with Jake and Aly! Aly is finally of age and is excited about moving to New York City with Jake. She can't believe she is finally on her own and free from parental rules, school responsibilities and she longs for her freedom with Jake. Although all her dreams are finally coming true, she is still scared of her love for Jake and his for her. Will these two be able to meet somewhere in the middle for their happily ever after?

Both Jake and Aly are far from your typical romance story. They both have more than their share of issues and usually those issues translate into miscommunications and frustration in their relationship. That doesn't stop these two though. Jake knows that Aly deserves the best and he beats himself up every time he can't give it to her but he still does his best to try. Aly just wants Jake to be happy with her but she finds herself only barely surviving his constant ups and downs, his tour schedule and real life issues end up getting in their way at every turn.

This whole story has been highly emotional but this one takes the cake. I found myself trying to understand either character and sometimes I just couldn't wrap my head around either one of their decisions. These are seriously flawed individuals. If you are looking for sappy and clean romance, MOVE on! You won't find it here. But, if REAL turns you on, then you have come to the right place because Aly and Jake are as real as it gets!

I still feel the same about the writing that I did in the last book, Ann Marie does a wonderful job at bringing her characters to life, so much so that you feel that you could know them. Her writing is so easy to get caught up in that you have to force yourself to sleep.

The ending of this installment was so completely PERFECT! I just can't wait for the next one! I believe the ending is what sealed the five stars for me, having a perfect ending to an amazing book is just every readers fantasy. Thanks for fulfilling this readers dream.

Usually Jake and Alyssa redeem themselves with some kind of behavior that shows they really care for each other and others. However, in this story there was nothing that I could find to explain the outrageousness levels of their selfishness. Maybe as a person who has never had the kind of freedom in their childhood and college years as these two have, and that is why I could not relate to that aspect of their lives. Although I do know a little about throwing away my dreams because of idiotic decisions I made as a young(ish) person. So yeah... do hope there is something in the next book to show these two have matured past the serious roadblocks they've put up in this book. It's very hard to like either of them right now! (Uhm... yeah I am peeved at fictional characters and expect better of them. That's not insane at all, right?!)

I don't know what to say! I've waited forever for this book, and once I got my hands on it i could not put it down! It picked up right where the first one left off and continued taking you on an emotional roller coaster called Jake & Aly. There where several things along the way I did not see coming, and had me in tears. When the end snuck up on me I was cursing Ann Marie! I know there is another book coming and for the love of God please don't make me wait as long as the last time!!!!! Thankfully I got a little reprieve with a couple chapters of book 3, but not enough, I need to know Jake & Aly will be ok. Very few books grab me and make we want to just fall into the pages and not let go, this one does.

Free download. Wow ok there is so much happening with this story I don't know where to start. I love Jake, he's so real as a character but flawed. Ally kind of irritates me a little throughout this book. She seems confused for most of it, and comes across very selfish. This book dealt with changes, shock, conflict, mistrust, death, despair, substance abuse and infidelity. The love story is so real, and impassioned you can't help but route for Jake even when he's at his lowest and all hell breaks loose. The story is great, some editing errors but nothing which draws away from the story. The characters are great, the sex scenes are hot, but there is a lot of angst. I'm looking forward to the next book which is a novella and available to download for free currently. Would recommend.

4 Star Review
Broken Notes is the second novel in the Heavy Influence Series by Ann Marie Frohoff. It is the continuation of Jake and Alyssa’s compelling childhood love story, and the series should be read in order to appreciate the entire plot. Broken Notes is told in alternating points of view by Jake and Aly, with all of the previous side characters in the background.

“My hope for my future with Aly was at an all-time-high.”

Several months have passed since arriving back in the states from Aly’s surprise visit to London and rockstar Jake couldn’t be happier; with an amazing career and the girl he loves in his life, what more could a guy ask for. But, when his band is struck with a tragedy and temptation is peeking around every corner, can he resist the appeal?

“This was Jake’s life. I was just in it.”

After uprooting her life in California and moving to New York to be with Jake, she quickly realizes that she’s just standing in the shadows of his stardom. Feeling like she doesn’t belong in his life at the moment, she decides to pursue her dreams and attend college back in her home state without Jake.

“If she leaves, I’m not gonna have a long-distance relationship.”

Actions speak louder than words though. They desperately want each other, but, when stardom, temptations, and tragedy surround you, the media stories start buzzing and life changing decisions must be made.

“Aly, you’re the blood that courses through my veins. I’d rather slit my wrists and bleed out than not have you in my live. You’re my anchor. You’re the reason for any of this.”

Is their relationship strong enough to withstand the directions life is pulling each of them in?

This is not my first Ann Marie Frohoff book, but this is by far my favorite in the series so far! It’s very well written and I truly felt the struggles Aly and Jake were facing. Broken Notes is a continuation in the Heavy Influence Series and you are left with a cliffhanger ending. If you’re looking for an emotional yet sexy read then I definitely recommend this-but be sure and read the series in order!

Broken Notes (Heavy Influence Book 2)
By: Ann Marie Frohoff
5 out of 5 stars

The story Broken Notes (Heavy Influence Book 2) by Ann Marie Frohoff is a new age romance book with a little bit of rock and roll. Jake and Alyssa are finally in New York City beginning to build a life together. Alyssa is adjusting to life in the spotlight with Jake while looking at her options on going to college. Then a death and a set of unfortunate events have Jake’s world spinning out of control. As she tries to hold on to her dreams, Jake’s take on life may be tearing apart what they have fought so hard to keep. What does their future hold?

This is the second book in the Heavy Influence series and what a roller coaster ride it is. Both Jake and Alyssa have been living their lives since their reunion in London and now are off to New York as planned to start their life together. Even the best-laid plans can get sidelined and that is what seems to happen to this couple. They both know that they love each other and want to be together, however, Alyssa has always and still continues to have insecurities regarding the women in Jake’s life and Jake is worried about a sick band member as well as strange behavior from a family member. While reading this story I sometimes cry out in frustration with Jake and Alyssa as they seem to go hot and cold. I wouldn’t have it any other way as it really depicts how a romance could go when you are in love with a member of a super-hot and famous rock band. I don’t envy either of them as trying to coordinate their lives and hold on to each other. Old demons rear their heads and making decisions even when unwise seem to be a way of life.

I can’t think of a better way to spend the afternoon than sitting and reading the next installment of this series. If you haven’t yet picked up the first book and the two novellas before this one and settle in for the long haul. It’s worth every minute. There is adult language and adult situations which would make this a book recommended for mature readers.

4 stars.
Broken Notes is the second full length novel in the Heavy Influence series by Ann Marie Frohoff. There is also a novella in between book 1 and 2. I have read all of the books so far in the series and they should definitely be read first as this is a continuation of Jake and Alyssa’s story – and what a story it is! Just when I think I love Jake and he and Alyssa are finally getting their HEA he goes and does something! This story honestly broke my heart! It was so raw and emotional and I think the author did an amazing job with it. I am completely invested in Jake and Alyssa as a couple and I absolutely want them to be together! Through everything that has happened in their lives they really do truly love each other but it seems that sometimes love just isn’t enough for this young couple. There are just so many twists and turns in their lives – for them real life is really hitting them hard.
I did find that I struggled with Alyssa a little in this book, she frustrated me at times but the more I read on I could see that she is just in way too deep with Jake. She can’t handle his lifestyle and he doesn’t help sometimes. Jake can sometimes be quite selfish but then throughout this book he does lose someone very important to him and grief can do many things to a person. Again it just isn’t the right time for this young couple regardless of how much they love each other.
This series is such an emotional rollercoaster for me. I have a love/hate relationship with Jake! I really want to love him but sometimes he just makes some really stupid decisions. The author takes some really sensitive issues and writes them with such compassion and respect. They are real life situations that I’m sure some people can relate to. I am really looking forward to reading the next book in the series and seeing where Jake and Alyssa’s relationship will go! I have my fingers crossed for a HEA!!

Broken Notes by Ann Marie Frohoff
Four Stars

Broken Notes it the second book in the Heavy Influence Series by Ann Marie Frohoff, however there is a prequel and a novella and I highly recommend that you read the books in order in this series. I read the novella that comes after this book first and although I really enjoyed it, the story flows better with the backstory of the first four books. This book has the most ups and down of any of the books before it. This book starts where Fever Pitch leaves off.

Alyssa is home from London and ready to graduate high school, they she will be heading to NYU to start college and be close to Jake. When problems in life hit the couple will they be able to keep their relationship together? There are still many trust issues to overcome.

Jake Masters has moved back to New York City after finishing a European tour with his band. Things are happening fast for them and he feels like he is on top of the world. Then tragedy hits and his secrets are weighing on him. Will Alyssa be able to keep him sober? Will she be strong enough to carry them both or is that too much to ask?

Ms. Frohoff continues to weave a wonderful story that leaves the reader on the edge of their seats, what will happen for this couple? This book is full of emotions, love and sadness. Will they get their happily ever after? This is a must read series!

Its that first love syndrome. Aly just cant get away, no matter how badly she tries. Jake is crap. His character in this book made me hate him. I kept asking why is she even fooling around with him. But first loves will do that to you. They hold you. You have so much in your mind making you think of all the good stuff when you are being crapped on right in front of you and don't even know it. Jake keeps doing the drugs, messing with women, has a full blown relationship with another woman. Aly just keeps floating around. There was a lot more emotion with this book.

This is the next book in A Heavy Influence series. I have really enjoy this series. I like the authors writing style and how she does shy away from real life problems. She has kept me interested.
This book starts with Jake headed to the JFK airport to fly back home for Alyssa graduation. Alyssa's brother is picking him up, so he can surprise her. Kyle thinks he should have told Alyssa he was coming but Jake wouldn't Listen. It has been 4 months since they had been together in London, he can't get her out of his head. After graduation they will both be flying to New York City to live together. But Jake still hasn't broke things off with Sophia. Will that be a deal breaker for Aly?
Aly is having breakfast with Nathan at local beach joint when Jake walks in. Aly notices him and goes up to give him a hug. Nathan walks up tells Jake he doesn't deserve her and walks out of the restaurant. Aly asked. Jake when he got in and why he didn't tell her. He told her he wanted to surprise her. They pooled into Aly's driveway and he looked across the street at his mom house where it all started. He teased up knowing he was going to have to come face to face with his mom. Which was strange because they had been talking and getting along but haven't had any life changing moments or talks.
Aly and Jake get hotel room that night and go back to his mom's for dinner. After graduation they would be headed to New York city to the apartment that Jake got them.
Aly is having second thoughts about going to school there. She really wants to play Volleyball at a school she has a full ride scholarship too. But she hasn't told Jake yet.
Will love be enough to get them through these times. Have they grow apart? Has Aly been seeing Nathan?? This are all answered and more in this book.
