Kings of the Ice #2

Watch Your Mouth

Rate this book
My brother’s teammates know not to touch me — but that doesn’t stop me from daring Jaxson Brittain to be the first to break the rule.

After one steamy night in Austin, I’m all too aware of the hot, broody defenseman with icy blue eyes and ink sprawling his muscular arms. He was the one my brother assigned to keep me safe — and I had far too much fun tempting him to be the one to put me in danger.

It was just one night of tip-toeing the line, of teasing and flirting and messing around knowing nothing would ever come of it.

But when the universe throws me back into his lap two weeks later and we end up on a secret road trip together, all bets are off.

I can’t help but touch him. I can’t help but pray for him to touch me. And I can’t resist the temptation to test him at every turn.

Jaxson is smart and doesn’t have a death wish. So, like a gentleman, he keeps his hands to himself… the jerk.

But the closer we get on the road and the farther we get from reality, the less those warning signs from my brother seem to deter him.

When we started this road trip, we set a boundary. We promised to keep all arms and legs safely in the friend zone.

Now, miles and miles away from all the reasons we shouldn’t, all I can hear is my heart thumping out the resounding reason we should.

And the way those heated blue eyes watch me, I know I’m not the only one.

An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. Her love for writing started at the ripe age of 10, and in 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.”

She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a hopeless romantic and found herself bursting at the seams with love stories she was eager to tell.

Okay maybe I’m more emotional this morning because I stayed up all night listening to 1989 TV (and yes, it’s currently on repeat).

Or maybe I’m more emotional because this book carved a wedge into my heart and planted roots.

Watch Your Mouth was just supposed to be book two in a hot hockey series. It was just supposed to be a juicy little bit of angst with a dash of spice and a sprinkle of sports.

Instead, these characters bloomed to life and took control of the pen — and proceeded to take me on the most magical ride of my writing career.

I have never written about two characters that just… CONNECTED the way Jax & Grace did. I’ve never had scenes flow so easily, where just having the two of them on the page together makes it write itself.

They charmed me in the beginning with their teasing banter, with the way they dared each other and tested the boundary between them.

They made me fall a little harder when they opened up to one another, when they shared the part of them that exists behind the curtain everyone else sees.

But when they saw what the other one was made of, when they recognized the scars… and then found the perfect way to speak to them, care for them, and heal them?

I was a goner.

Most of my books are 80,000 words or so when I complete the rough draft. This one was 104,000, and I STILL felt like I could write more for them. I have still thought about their story every day since I typed “the end.” I still haven’t started Daddy P’s book because I’m in my Jax & Grace era.

This book is a love letter to the weirdos. This is for the ones who love adventure and falling hard, who melt not at the sight of a hot athlete with abs (although that’s nice, too), but at the thought of a man understanding them so completely that they can anticipate your needs before you even say them.

Quite simply — this one is for sunny girls who also need a safe place to break.

Thank you for being excited with me. May you have a fully charged kindle, something warm to sip, a cozy corner to curl up into, a speaker to play 1989 TV on, and batteries in the pocket rocket because I have two words for you…

keychain scene. ;)

I love a good road trip romance and add in a sports romance/teammates little sister and I was so here for this book! Kandi Steiner does such a good job building tension between these two and the angst was just enough without the book being too angsty.

Jaxson Brittain is Grace’s brother’s teammate and friend. She knows he’s off limits for her, but she still wants him. Grace is not only Jaxson’s teammate’s little sister, but she’s eight years younger than him and off limits in so many ways. They have this pull to one another, but both know they shouldn’t act on it.

Grace and Jaxson go on a secret road trip and it’s so much fun. I loved reading this part, in fact it was my favorite part of the book. I loved watching them become friends and slowly fall for one another. When feelings come into play, neither one can stay away.

The audiobook was fantastic to listen to, the narrators voiced Grace and Jaxson perfectly. This couples romance was sweet, steamy, and easy to read. I am loving these hockey books and after hearing who the next book is about… I’m dying for it!

This is one of my favorite sports romance books, hands down. Jaxson and Grace are PERFECTION 💗

I am not the biggest sports romance girly but this freaking HIT. It is perfect from page 1. I loved the connection Jaxson and Grace had right from the beginning. I also thought Grace was adorable. Her awkward moonwalk and shooting guns reaction killed me.

ALSO... JAXSON'S FREAKING MOUTH, OOOOOMG 🥵🥵

Quotes:
"home. that's what she was for me." 🥹

"you always have a safe place to land with me."

"watch your mouth when you're talking to my girl."

"spit on it" 🫠🫠🫠🫠

another banger from kandi steiner! a break up leads grace to go on an unexpected road trip with her brother’s hot hockey teammate, jaxson. the tension was immediately SOO good, i was on the edge of my seat waiting for it break and when it did, o m g 🔥😮‍💨 grace was so fun and jaxson had some broody vibes going on. but he quickly saw through the facade she put on for everyone. they had such a great connection, i loved the friendship they developed and how easily they became each other’s safe place, it was so sweet.

i had no idea how they were going to make it work long term and i was STRESSED. the airport goodbye!?! i had a few tears in my eyes tbh. this book was phenomenal, and the audio was SO GOOD. highly recommend that route if you’re an audio person. jaxson & grace 4 ever 💌

Grace is probably one of the most annoying, immature and insufferable characters I have read in a long time. My gosh.

I ended up skimming the last 30% of this book just to find out the rest of the story.

Also we never find out who leaked all the info from her phone????? It would be one thing if she lost her phone in a random place but she lost it in the friends and family area at the arena!

Watch Your Mouth follows Jaxson and Grace, who we met in Meet Your Match. Jaxson is Vince’s teammate and best friend, and Grace is Vince’s off-limits little sister. That doesn’t stop these two from going on a cross country road trip in an effort to cure Grace’s recent heartbreak.

While both Jaxson and Grace’s characters both had depth to them (him with his past related to an abusive father, and her related to feelings of neglect and living in Vince’s shadow), I ultimately didn’t connect much with them as a couple. I wasn’t as moved by their chemistry as I was by Vince and Maven’s.

I could be biased because I’ve realized I just don’t like road trip romances, but even when they would make stops and have bonding time, something about it felt either forced or boring. It didn’t help that the book seemed to feel rushed at the end. I would’ve like more time of them together back home amongst friends and family, since it felt like their romance was built over a few weeks in a car and in hotels.

As usual, the writing wasn’t bad which is why it’s a 3.5, but it’s definitely not my favorite from this author.

Watch Your Mouth is book 2 in the Kings of the Ice series by Kandi Steiner. This is a sports romance (hockey), opposites attract, forced proximity, road trip, teammate’s little sister, age gap (he’s 31, she’s 22) romance!

“One night.
One balmy, rowdy night of chaos.
That was all it took for Grace Tanev to turn my entire world inside out.”

I loved the first book in the series and was looking forward to this one! It has some of my fav tropes and Jaxson and Grace definitely bring the steam. This one did kind of drag for me in the middle, and while I liked certain parts of the story I just wasn’t super loving it all the way through the read. I wanted more hockey action and less of the road trip.

Basically Jaxson, aka “Brittzy”, is a professional hockey player and he falls for his teammate’s sister, Grace. Grace’s brother Vince is the hero of book 1 in this series. Jaxson first meets Grace when she is in a relationship, but she’s super flirty and loves to tease him. After a breakup, she shows up at her brother’s house and Jaxson says they can take off on a road trip together. They end up spending the summer traveling together and growing closer. These two definitely bring the steamy times! I liked all the appearances of Vince and Maven (the couple of book 1) and how she does daily videos of sharing something good. I’m very excited for book 3 which is a grumpy/sunshine, single dad/nanny romance with one of the hockey players!

Thanks to Valentine PR for an ARC, all thoughts in this review are my own. Watch Your Mouth is out October 27, 2023!

brother's teammate? check. grumpy sunshine? check. forced proximity on a road trip? check. hockey? check.

all my fave tropes and this still exceeded my expectations. jax started out so grumpy but then he just wanted grace to make a home with him. the tension and build up was SO GOOD. i was foaming at the mouth for them to get together. and when they did? kandi ALWAYS delivers.

one of my faves from her, FOR SURE.

Nope. I just can't. My first Kandi Steiner so maybe this was a case of bad book for me? But I just cannot stomach a heroine who acts like a messy immature 5 year old with zero boundaries and zero impulse control. She's *not like other girls* yet she says and does things that are so blatantly stupid, desperate and cringe. Goading your brother's hockey teammates by aggressively flirting and grinding up against them cause it's amusing fun? Grow the fuck up. I knew I was in trouble when the heroine is described as "skipping" through the party bus like a child and swinging on a stripper pole "like a primate swinging from a tree" (her words not mine) and bragging about how she learned a party trick of shotgunning beers in college to impress guys who challenged her cause she "wasn't good at anything else". Bless her. My entire body was cringing at this point.

I mean if this is what I'm getting for a heroine:
I’d met Trent while sharing a joint around a campfire in May, and then we’d hooked up in his van. I’d kind of just followed him around like a puppy dog since, mostly because I didn’t exactly know what else to do (.....)But he didn’t seem to mind having me around, and even though he told me he wasn’t looking for any kind of relationship, he got jealous when he saw other guys try to talk to me. He also showed me public displays of affection, bought me gifts, texted me all day every day, and made plans that included both of us. Felt very relationship-y to me, but what did I know.

No thank you ma'am.

This is where I point out that this is the same loser who breaks up with her a few months later and she's a complete emotional hysterical wreck over it to the point the hero offers to take her on a road trip to cheer her up. She's a flaming idiot.

And I'm just gonna leave this here as my final note as this scene was the final straw for me. This is what the heroine constitutes as "small talk".....
“Okay. How about this one. Imagine you have two miniature legs that are constantly kicking,” she said, illustrating the scenario with her index and middle finger. She pointed them down in an upside-down peace sign and wiggled them back and forth like they were walking legs. “Would you want them attached to your chin, or your gooch?”
The laugh that barreled out of me was impossible to contain, and Grace smiled wider, moving the wiggling fingers under her chin before she popped them down in-between her legs in the most unattractive gesture I’d ever witnessed from a woman.

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Trope: best friend’s sibling
Angst: 😱😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥

Gracie is feeling like she's having a breakdown. She's broken up with her boyfriend and she doesn't know what she's doing wither her life. She's always the one to put on a brave face, to make everyone else feel great, so she feels like no one can see when its her that needs help. But one person notices. Jaxson. Her older brother's teammate. Nine years her senior and so off limits it isn't funny. He sees her and when she says she wants to just drive, that's what they do. They hop in the car and have the best road trip of their lives. If only they can keep from catching feels. If only her brother doesn't find out.

Watch Your Mouth was a really touching story about letting go, finding your self-worth, telling your truths, and setting healthy boundaries for those toxic to us. It was well written, angsty, and while it moved a bit slow in spots, it quickly picked up again. I just loved Grace and Jaxson. Their chemistry was super hot and it was only amplified by the length of time they tried to deny their feelings. I loved them together. He tethers her while she teaches him how to be impulsive and free. They can see each other in ways that should be closest to them (family) cannot. Absolutely recommend it, but really.... I'm super excited for Daddy Ps book next!

I am such a fan (as we all know by now) of age gap and forbidden romance, both of which are featured here, and I loved the angstiness it added to Jaxson and Grace’s already heated dynamic. Their flirtation and banter was so fun and practically jumped off the page in any given scene. And the spice - did I mention that yet? If you are a fan of (all the way) open door romance, you will want to check this one out.

I really enjoyed this one more than the last, although that one was really good too! I think what made me love this one a bit more (because let's be honest, the steam and writing are just as good as book one in this standalone series) was the idea of adventure, of living life to the fullest, and finding that person who will see you and be your safe space.

This story resonated with me personally on top of being fun, entertaining, and very steamy.

***audiobook - loved the narrators, some duet scenes seemed not to match in terms of volume.

KANDI SNAPPED

OH MY GODDAMN GOD THAT WAS PHENOMENAL

My eyes are literally burning from the hours spent reading and rereading chapters of this book in the past 24 hours.

This was such a high that I never wanted to end. The tropes were troping in the best way possible.
> Age gap• brothers teammate• roadtrip• forced proximity*<
THE MF TENSION AND BANTER

There was not a second or moment in this book that I didn't eat THE FÜCK UP. I think I highlighted the whole damn book. And his nickname for her?! I DIEEEEE

Grace and Jax were EVERYTHING together, their story really healed pieces of me I didn't even know I needing healing from. I'm so happy Grace found her safe place to land and Jax was able to unload some of the weight off his shoulders. That airport scene had me ready to be laid out in the emergency room.

I am so gassed about the next book because HELLO. WE LOVE DADDY P! Single dad + grumpy + hockey player + her teacher/ nanny? Sign me UP. Kandi is snapping with this series and I am eating it UP. I can't wait to continue on.

Thank you so much to Kandi (aka the queen of sports romance) and her team for sending me the ARC!

I don’t care how many times I read this trope, BROTHER’S BEST FRIEND/TEAMMATE WILL ALWAYS HIT!

Kandi writes forbidden romance/sneaking around like no one’s business. The tension was insane between Grace and Jaxson! Their relationship was beautiful and I loved how they were exactly what the other needed.

Grace was very relatable so much so that I think I said “Wait. Is this fcking play about us?” about five times 😂 I also loved seeing Jaxson to be the first one to put Grace first and also learning that he could put himself first in his own life as well.

And with no surprise to literally anyone, the spice was immaculate 🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼

Jaxson's friend and teammates little sister Grace has always been forbidden. She's completely off limits, a rule that Jaxson *mostly* has always followed. That is until he finds Grace crying over a guy that broke her heart. Willing to do anything to cheer her up, Jaxson offers to take her for a drive but Grace asks for a road trip instead. A couple of days away is all it was supposed to be, but with the attraction and chemistry that these two have, days turn into weeks. They agree to spend the summer together with the knowledge that they'll part ways when Jaxson's hockey season starts. But will just one summer be enough? Secrets are shared and an unlikely friendship is formed.

I am OBSESSED with Jaxson and Grace's story. At the core of their relationship is a friendship and it's so so so beautiful. They're beyond supportive of each other and they create such a deep connection that neither of them saw coming. They're total opposites and they really shouldn't make sense but they do and they're PERFECT. This book is adventurous, fun, SPICY and there are so many laugh out loud moments. But of course, this is a Kandi Steiner book and in true Kandi fashion, it's EMOTIONAL. I loved this book from start to finish and I 100% recommend it.

Thank you Kandi Steiner and Valentine PR for this ARC!

This was alright. I had a hard time connecting with the story. I liked Jaxson but I wasn't a fan of Grace's character. So many times Jaxson would tell her no about something and she still persisted which came across as desperate. I would've liked things to develop naturally between them. Their connection just didn't scream end game to me.

The plot felt forced and weird and Grace is just a childish manic pixie dream girl that’s lost in life and finds someone to prioritize and take care of her and decided to just go with that then.

Also who the hell is going down on someone after a 15 mile hike??

I binged this book last night like a crazy person!!!

I loved "meet your match" so I knew that I had to read this. I loved everything about this except for the "brother best friend" trope omg, why was Vince so insufferable in this book???? the scene where he finds out about his sister being with Jaxson was the worst!!! If my brother acted that way in real life it would be over for him 😭

Aside from that, I liked this

-a super hot pull up scene you don’t want to miss🤭

OH MY GOD ANOTHER MASTERPIECE!! the moment i found out book 2 of the kings of the ice series was going to be based around a road trip, i already knew i was going to love it (this is your sign to read on the way to you if you haven’t yet😉). and let me tell you this book blew me away, it was EVERYTHING i hoped it would be and more.

grace my beautiful wandering soul. she is SO relatable. she is the definition of “quirky in the best way” she is the epitome of sunshine and smiles and go with the flow. she is the life of all parties and loved to think of hypotheticals or would you rathers. but she is so much more than that. grace is such a mirrorball girlie. she feels like she needs to be happy all the time for everyone else & no one really notices that she has other feelings to. and then enter jaxson.

jaxson sees grace. he can tell when she’s sad or putting on a show. he wants to know her better but knows he should keep boundaries in place. she is his teammates little sister after all. jaxson also has a lot going on that he keeps bottled up. he has a rocky relationship with his dad but puts up with certain things anyways. he feels stuck, he doesn’t have anyone to talk to about the deeper things yet he feels so drawn to graces energy even the sadder parts.

now enter the road trip. the time they spend together is everything. these two characters are undeniably soul mates. they SEE the other one and i mean really see all of the things the other is trying to hide. they openly communicate about what’s going on in their heads and how they’re feeling in different scenarios. they laugh together, they have amazing chemistry, they’re not afraid to open up about the tough parts. they make each other feel seen and supported. oh and they just happen to be on a road trip that’s sizzling with built up tension.

the road trip was the highlight of the book. we got to start off with lots of pining and wanting that lead to some uber spicy scenes. we got to see them fall in love organically and got to see grace push jaxson out of his comfort zone and got to see jaxson help grace understand it’s okay to be upset and cry. we still got to see a good amount of the other characters in the kings of the ice series all while they were sneaking around and hiding their road trip from others. we got to see some heartbreaking moments and the reason why these two are the perfect puzzle piece matches for each other. the balance one another so beautifully.

anyways, clearly i loved this book and i think everyone else will too. these characters are everything to me, kandi’s books never disappoint and this one was no different. i swear they just keep getting better & better!!

Wow. Just wow. This book was full of angst, tension, grumpy x sunshine and a secret relationship - four things that I love reading about in books. Grace and Jaxson's story had me all in my feels and I thoroughly enjoyed every single second of watching them fall hard and fast for each other. And the spice y'allllll...let's just say that I'm gonna blame Miss Kandi's writing for getting me all horny lol. Watch Your Mouth went above and beyond my initial expectations and I'm absolutely stoked to read Learn Your Lesson next - it may or may not be because it's about a *ahem* certain side character that I've had my eye on since MYM *wink wink*

This was what a fun hockey romance should be.
I liked both the main characters.
I liked the road-trip storyline.
Loved the banter.
Decent spice.

These two felt more genuine than Vince and Maven.
And while sometimes I don’t like the whole “oh no, brothers little sister” vibes, this worked for me.

Excited for Daddy P.

While I was reading a review, the person said they cried reading this book; my reaction was, “ Who cries while reading hockey romance? “ Me, that's is who. I cried. Talk about heartfelt emotions.

Grace and Jaxson find themselves instantly attracted to watch each other; Jaxson knows Garce is off-limits as she is his teammate's sister. After a fun night together, they kart ways until two weeks later, Jason asks Garce what she needs, and they are odd for a summer adventure. As “friends “

So, where are the heartfelt emotions I talked about? It’s their backstories of trauma and their love. It's so beautiful. They see each other while others are oblivious. I love these two together; I love how the author wrote Grace. Strong, independent, and outgoing.

I didn’t want their story to end. But all good things must come to an end. I look forward to reading about them in future books in the series.

Happy Release Day to Watch Your Mouth 🩵

Kandi! Kandi! She is in full force on the ice with the second book in her Kings of the Ice series. Watch Your Mouth focuses on Grace and Jaxson, and you all know I love anything that Kandi writes. But this one took the CAKE and has become one of my personal favorites from her. Sorry, LLTW and QS, this one just deserves infinity stars.

After a very lust-filled night, these two do some dirty dancing in Austin, Texas. But, given that Grace is Vince's younger sister and Jaxson's BFF and teammate, boundaries must be established. However, ever since that evening, they have tried to ignore their affection for one another. It just so happens that Jaxson is present when Grace returns home to Vince following a semi-breakup. Grace talks Jaxson into joining her for the perfect summer road trip. These two travel together and we watch their love and intimacy grow, showing how those magical worldwind moments can genuinely alter a person's entire world even as they continued to conceal from the world what they share.

My girl Grace is an electric spontaneous woman and is the definition of wanderlust with her eyes set on the next destination & one foot on a plane. Grace, like most of us, simply wants someone to truly value her and her soul! She wants to be recognized for more. Jaxson… I was a giddy mess for this man.🤤Not only does he look astonishing on and off the cover…he's just YUMMY, complete with glasses and tattoos. In life, he values books, cars, and hockey. Grace ends up filling his world with color as he's able to find his voice.

In this story, Kandi made ALL my romance dreams come true with so many of my favorite tropes and a flavor of hockey. She made Grace & Jaxson's story incredibly touching, enchanting, passionate, and so DAMN delicious. 😩🥵I hope that these two capture your heart as much as they did mine. 🫶I truly loved the deeper dive into the teammates and friendships, especially since someone will be getting schooled in book 3. If you haven't started this series yet, what are you waiting for?!

Forever greatful to @kandisteiner

We knew what we were, and what we were not, and what we could never be.
We understood the risk we took with our hearts, and yet we did it anyway.

5 stars!

Fun, sexy and beautifully swoony, this book made me laugh, made me cheer, brought the feels and stole my heart! This is the second book in the Kings of the Ice series, an age-gap/forbidden/road trip romance for a hockey player and the one girl he should be with – his teammate’s little sister.

Jaxson and Grace are introduced when Jaxon’s teammate and Grace’s brother, Vince (hero of book #1, Meet Your Match), puts his sister into Jaxson’s care during a night out with the team. They flirt and dance, there is obvious chemistry and attraction between them, and Jaxson is bowled over by the lively, energetic woman. But she is in a sort-of relationship, so they go their separate ways at the end of the night. A few weeks later, and Grace is back in town nursing a broken heart. Jaxson wants to help, so when Grace asks him to join her on a road trip, he agrees. No destination in mind, just living free and in the moment, which is exactly how Grace loves to be. It's a great beginning to their friendship.

One night.
One balmy, rowdy night of chaos.
That was all it took for Grace Tanev to turn my entire world inside out.

Road trip books are always so much fun, and as Jaxson and Grace explore anything and everything they can, they talk, they laugh, they have fun, and they grow close. She brings him back to life, he gives her peace and the security to truly be herself, and they quickly come to feel so much for each other.

“The truth is…” She sucked in a breath like she just realized the truth she was speaking of, and it killed her. “The truth is I’m always on the go because I don’t feel like I have a safe place to land.”
I closed my eyes, suppressing a curse as my heart cracked at her admission.
Then, I tilted her chin, and I made sure she was looking at me when I said, “You always have a safe place to land with me.”

But despite their wild and obvious attraction, Jaxson is determined to keep his distance – not only is Grace his teammate’s sister, but there’s an eight year age gap between them (he is 30, she’s 22). She’s also a free spirit with a desire to travel and he’s stuck in one place with his hockey contract. It could never work between them… but that doesn’t stop the mad chemistry that’s building between them.

I knew exactly what I was doing to him, what he was doing to me.
What I didn’t know was how we were ever supposed to walk away from each other now.

It’s a battle to keep their distance, and they certainly put up a good effort, but before too long, all of that built-up sexual tension explodes into sizzling hotness that overwhelms them both. They can’t keep their hands off each other, they don’t even want to try anymore, and even knowing all of the obstacles that stand between them, they fall and they fall hard.

One by one, we checked every item off my list.
Day by day, we explored and laughed and lived like we were the only two people in the world.
And night by night, I fell in love with Jaxson Brittain.
I didn’t even try to fight it.

I’d only known the girl for a month, and yet it felt like I’d been living under water before I found her. It was like she’d pulled me to the surface, like I’d taken my first breath and looked around and saw the world with fresh eyes.
And now, I couldn’t imagine living without her.

As emotions become involved, what started as a fabulously fun and blisteringly sexy road trip book suddenly brings the feels, and oh, my heart! I felt everything. My heart was pounding, I teared up, and the beauty of the love story had me completely captivated and swept up into a world of swoon.

“You have consumed my every waking thought. You have wrecked every dream I’ve had,” he cursed against my lips, kissing along my jaw and neck next. “I am obsessed.”

The love that Jaxson and Grace have for each other is so beautiful! They feel it, they own it, they don’t hide it from each other, and I loved seeing them so all-consumingly in love.

“I love you … I didn’t know what it was to live before you came into my life. I didn’t know there could be joy like this, or adventure, or pain so fucking deep in my chest … I didn’t know that I could be with you – every second of every day – and still/i> want more.”

They have challenges to face and once again, the feels are intense! It’s exciting and emotional, and I was feeling so much for both of them through it all. Despite the emotional turmoil, it’s all very functional and blessedly angst free, and the drama makes sense for the characters’ journeys and works to progress the story and their relationship. And it creates a fantastic sense of anticipation, excitement and satisfaction as we watch them work through it all.

“I can promise you that no one in this world will love her harder than I will, and I will protect her with my fucking life.”

I felt so much while reading this book. There are so many scenes I highlighted, and so many moments that I went back and read over and over again just to soak it all in. The characters, their lives, their friendship, and their passion and love for each other all burst off the page, and I was right there with them through all of it, loving every moment.

This is a really special read. It captured my heart, and I have so many feels for this book. I can’t wait to continue on with the series.

5 stars!

4 Road Trip Stars!

“You always have a safe place to land with me.”

This was such a spicy, angsty, and emotional hockey romance. I love a man obsessed with his woman and Jaxson is OBSESSED and so protective of Grace from the beginning. He gets once forbidden touch and can't get enough after that. I love age gap, forbidden romance and this one definitely had it. Grace is not only Jaxson’s teammate’s little sister, but she’s eight years younger than him and off limits in so many ways. They have this inevitable push/pull to one another, but both know they shouldn’t act on it.

A "drive" turns into a secret road trip and it’s so much fun. I loved reading this part, in fact it was my favorite part of the book. I loved watching them go from friends to more.

READ IF YOU LIKE :
• Road trip
• Forbidden romance
• Brother's teammate
• Age gap
• Forced proximity/ One bed
• Opposites attract

And OMG, that airport scene? I was not expecting all those emotions... :'-( I freaking bawled. The emotional baggage both of them had and how they were desperately trying to heal/grow from it was another part I loved. Lots of witty banter and the spice was HAWT!

Also, the audio narration here was excellent!! Wesley Mercer and Miranda Dyer did a phenomenal job in bringing these characters to life and added to the story.

"We knew what we were, and what we were not, and what we could never be.
We understood the risk we took with our hearts, and yet we did it anyway."

I'll be over here not-so-patiently waiting for Daddy P's book!
