Sisters Carolyn Hopeworth and Nan Padgett are busy growing their Silver & Salvage junk shop in Alabama and decide to take their vintage campers out for one last hurrah before putting them in storage. While out “glamping” for the weekend, they compare notes about their other big project—letting their hair go gray after decades of dye jobs.
At the campsite, they quickly find a new friend in Kitty Monroe, part owner of the Monroe Construction empire. The sisters hit it off with Kitty, and the three of them can’t wait to show off their vintage campers at a charity fundraiser the next day.
But before the Tour of Campers can get underway, there’s a shocking discovery of the body of a deceased glamper—the floozy whose affair with Kitty’s ex-husband led to the end of the Monroes’ marriage. When Carolyn and Nan's new friend Kitty is hauled off to jail, they must rescue more than just roadside treasures. This time, a woman’s life may end up in the trash bin if her new friends can’t salvage her reputation …
Two going grey sisters 👩🏻🦳👩🏻🦳 with a penchant for junking & glamping. One loves tea & books 🫖📚 and the other coffee & garbage housewives shows ☕📺. Both get caught up in a murder mystery ☠ in small-town Redbud, AL.
There were plenty of suspects to keep me guessing 🤔. There were sweet little nods to faith that had me smiling. "Getting up before the demands of the day intruded, I could read my morning devotional in peace and quiet." And there were plenty of tea details to warm my heart being that the author and I share that love passionately! "I fired up the turquoise teakettle in my camper’s tiny kitchen and reached for a silken tea bag of the blend I had for breakfast every day, Queen Catherine from Harney & Sons."
There were several local colloquialisms and references to foods & customs that interested me. I need to research fried peach pie, Brunswick stew and white BBQ sauce all of which I've never heard of.
I related to Carolyn and thought Kitty was delightful. I really hope Edgar Sims returns and maybe finds a little romance because he seemed very sweet.
I also like the added details that made the story richer e.g. not just an apple, but a HoneyCrisp apple 🍎 (my favorite incidentally).
Overall I enjoyed this cozy mystery and look forward to the next installment of a Silver Sisters Mystery.
The author kindly includes two recipes at the end: Black Bean Chili with Rooibos Tea, Chicken and Artichoke Salad made w/Rice-a-Roni ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I purchaaed an eVersion from Amazon. All opinions are mine alone without expectation or compensation.
I came across this book by accident when I followed a link from a review of a different book to the author's website (she'd also done a review of the other book). The Roots of All Evil was mentioned on her website and it sounded like something I'd enjoy. Since an ebook version was available, I picked it up, and I'm glad I did.
It's a light, enjoyable cozy dealing with two sisters, Carolyn and Nan, who run a shop specializing in vintage home decor items. They're headed out for what's supposed to be a relaxing weekend hanging out with other women who share their hobby of decorating and camping out in vintage trailers. But someone turns up dead the next morning and their new friend Kitty is the chief suspect.
It's a clean read. No language. There's much discussion of adultery (it's one of the main plot points) but no description. Some violence, but mostly off stage.
My only nitpick? Carolyn and Nan really need to invest in a vintage watercooler for Silver and Salvage. For women interested in recycling and upcycling, they sure go through a lot of bottled water.
