A Vicious Proposal

Rate this book
I knew him only as Van Gogh.
A tortured artist who owned the night as he moved through the shadows, cloaked in hate and madness.
He was a vicious vigilante—a serial arsonist who thrived on the fear he triggered with a single match between his tattooed knuckles.
We were told to lock our doors and stay inside.
I wanted to. I really did.
But then I saw his eyes, burning like embers as he watched me through the smoke.
And like the flames at his feet, I delighted in his attention.
I became his muse.
His passion.
His obsession.
His perfectly flawed flower.
But that was years ago.
Before my seaside town became his canvas…
Before the ashes of my enemies became his paint…
Before he hated me… and made me his wife.

For the crime of betrayal, Reese Carmichael, I sentence you to six years as my prisoner.” I flash her a wink and a smile. “I believe society calls that a marriage.”

I have been eyeing this author for so long and when I saw the blurb for this book, I knew this would be my first Kristy Marie book. And I can say I'm officially hooked. I need more from this author and I definitely need more for this series.
She’s always been mine to ruin and love as violently as the flames that dance between my fingers.

Admittedly, I felt darker vibes from the book than the story itself ended up being. If you're expecting a dark romance, it's not really that. It has dark undercurrent, but it's really more gritty and gray.

Reese once thought "Van" was her everything, until he disappeared as suddenly as he appeared in her life. Van spent six years in prison and he's convinced that Reese is the one responsible for his arrest and ultimately his conviction. Now I will say, I was generally confused about all of the things up until well into 75% of the story. The way that it starts thoroughly threw me. It felt like we were diving head first not the middle of a book. The author cleverly continues to peel back the layers throughout the story, but where it worked for some of the things, for parts of it, it was frustratingly confusing. I would have loved a flashback to when they first met. As it was, it took me a while to fully click.

Now the banter in this book was everything. Reese is a spitfire and a half and this woman sure knows how to give as good as she gets.
This is why he hides in the shadows. Everyone wants to kill him for being a giant pain in the ass.

The chemistry between the two of them was seriously delicious. Though again, I would have loved to see flashbacks of them to really connect with their relationship. I did have to suspend my disbelief, since Van is now an ADA after a 6 year prison sentence. Did I care? Not in the least. It was so entertaining.

The author keeps you guessing about everything until the last few chapters and then the plot twists leave you reeling. It wasn't quite what I expected but it hooked me hard on the series and it hit the spot just right.

Holy fluffing WOW!!! A Vicious Proposal is a wild ride of epic "hate" filled banter, delicious steam, and the twist?! Didn't see it coming! Bravo!!!

Van is the perfect dark hero! His tough and sometimes scary exterior hides the best heart. Reese is snarky, smart, and strong. I love how she doesn't back down from Van. These two go from somewhat friends to enemies to finally lovers. Their story has stalker vibes mixed with danger and love. They are each others perfect match. Reese is the only one that can make Van break his rules and show emotions. He will seriously surprise you with his heart. I love how obsessive and protective he is of Reese.

I freaking love all the layers to this book! From who really betrayed Van to all the good things he does behind the scenes. And his brothers? I'm looking forward to their stories as well! Get ready to do nothing else while reading this unputdownable book!

I really wanted to love this one, but...I really struggled. There is so much from the relationship when they were 18 that just didn't make sense to me. And because it all was confusing at the start, I really had a hard time buying into this relationship.

None of it made sense. Van thinks Reese put him in jail for 6 years, but the punishment is you have to marry me. Um, what??? Then the whole fire thing was so confusing because it was constantly being talked about, but did he really set things on fire? OR was it just that he liked fire?? UGH.

Then you have the three brothers. But are they really brothers? Adopted brothers? I felt like we didn't get an answer. Not that it really matters, but it's why I keep having issues connecting all these people together.

We get more answers to things at the end, but it really felt so over the top. I think it as supposed to be dark, but I would argue it wasn't really that dark. It was just threats and constantly telling one another 'I hate you'. So this was just meh for me.

I’m going to be honest this book just confused me. It was way too short for the romance and plot to be what they needed. We get one chapter in the past of Van and Reese but considering there was already love between them I needed WAY more. They go 9 years without seeing each other and it just didn’t click for me when he blackmails her into marriage. He wants to hate her because he thinks she betrayed him (she didn’t) but really doesn’t do anything to her other than marry her……?

One minute Reese was really brave and the next minute she was afraid of his brothers. I also would’ve liked to SEE her hacking versus just talking about it. It was a lot of talk honestly. Even him talking about being an assistant DA, we literally don’t see him work once. How long does this book span time wise? No clue.

Also it left a lot of plot holes. Who ended up being the person to set fire to the group home? Did he really die in prison or was that a cover up? Maybe we will find out in future books in this series but I just can’t see what it would have to do with the other brothers story. The spice was fine. Nothing special and it happened quick when we did get a scene. I liked their personalities for the most part but just felt like we were missing a whole lot of somethings and it didn’t fully come together. I’m still going to read the brothers books because I’m intrigued but I’m bummed this one left a lot to be desired.

I gave it three for Van’s personality and the way that Reese handled him, she was hilarious with a lot of her banter and I enjoyed it, I also did see potential with it so overall I’d say 3/5.

Reese Carmichael knows I’m no typical man. I won’t love her tenderly and whisper sweet nothings in her ear.

A Vicious Proposal is book one in the new Fallen Kings of Eden series by Kristy Marie.

I had no idea what to expect going in to this so I was intrigued from the moment we met Van and his arsonist tendencies.

I adored Reese because she never backed down and that’s what I love about Kristy’s heroines. No matter how grumpy, or anti hero the main man is, the girls will always go toe to toe no matter the situation. The back and forth banter between the pair was combustible and I really enjoyed their dynamic.

I can’t wait for the other brothers books. Colour me intrigued. But I do have a feeling that Shakespeare is going to be my favourite.

This is my first book by Kristy Marie and I will definitely be reading more from her.
I enjoyed reading A Vicious Proposal but I have to say, I was actually expecting a dark romance…which it really wasn’t. I enjoyed the banter between Van and Reese.
I found myself finishing this in one sitting as Van and Reese’s story was fast paced and engaging.
Definitely recommend.

***4,5 "Until death do us part!!!" stars***

"All who wrong me pay for their actions -even those I once loved."

I adore Kristy Marie and her unique sense of humour!!! Because of that certain trait of hers, I could read anything by her, even her grocery list!!!
This time, she graced us with a different kind of story, one more dark than we have used by her, but to me who I'm reading dark stories all the time, it was dark on the softest side!!!
That fact didn't lacking on amazing and witty banters between our heros, a very intriguing storyline, a haunting background and amazing side characters that I am salivating over them!!!
Reese and Van were a revelation and I fell into their rabbit hole without a complain!!!
And the fact that the central idea was a forced marriage made me an extremely happy person!!!

"No one escapes Van Gogh's wrath -not even his muse."

Reese is in trouble... and she is about to be in so much more trouble!!!
An old friend/old crush of hers is coming back into her life, but with an ultimum that she can not accept that easily... Will she choose prison or a marriage to him???
Unfortunately, Van Gogh is not the man she used to know. Now, he is bitter and full of hatred for her... He wants to get revenge by her through a marriage and how well this will work for them both when old feelings from both sides will resurface???

"For the crime of betrayal, Reese Carmichael, I sentence you to six years as my prisoner... I believe society calls that a marriage."

I adore both Van and Reese...
I am always falling in love with Kristy's heroines... They are so intelligent, full of humor and sarcasm and it is delightful to see them banter with anyone around them, especially Reese with Van...
Van seemed closed-off and vicious, but he had his moments too... He was a fire lover and Reese was a thorn on his side for so many years...
He needs to hurt her, but he can not stay away from her, no matter how much he is trying!!!
Those two were perfect for each other and their banters were delightful... Just grab pop corns and enjoy the ride!!! LOL!!!

"No matter how much you hate me, Husband, I will always be the one thing you can't destroy."

I like where Kristy Marie is going with "The Fallen Kings of Eden".
We took a big bite in here, but there are also three other men in this world whom need to tell their stories and only by their names, I became obsessed with them!!!
I am very intrigued and I can not wait to see what Kristy has in store for us with them!!!
The only sure thing is that Reese and Van were absolutely amazing and I enjoyed their story very much!!! I can not wait for more!!!

"Shakespeare, Bach, and Tennyson are my brothers. We are heirs to an undeserved throne."

Kristy Marie has this unique style of witty and smarta&& writing that extends to her alpha antiheroes too! A Vicious Proposal is a very interesting blend of dark, twisted and humorous. Reese and Van has this sharp banter going on that somehow elevates their enemies to lovers, grumpy sunshine, forced proximity dynamics. An arsonist vigilante turned elite attorney, a hacker with good intention and tragic past and a love that was born out of their sadness, grief and need for each other's darkness.

I was expecting a darker story from the cover and the Blurb and the teasers. This definitely has some dark moments but it is not a dark romance. Arsonist Vigilante Van Gogh aka now district attorney Alistair Cain forces Reese Carmichael to marry him..as a punishment for the betrayal that he thinks Reese did to him years ago. Reese is also hacker with golden heart with robinhood complex and Van knows all her secrets. As Reese gets to know the hidden parts of the twisted mam she once loved..it appears this punishment will make her fall for Van again. But will Van accept his feels?

I love Reese so much. She has come from a dark past where survival was most important and she is still struggling to balance everything in her life. Searching for her sister, using her skill to take away from the rich and corrupt , working for a job and now..a forced marriage to a man who promises retribution. In middle of this mess, she stands tall and fights constantly. I love her sass and then her sweetness when it comes to accepting her deranged husband. Van is an antihero you won't be able to hate. He leads an interesting life with a found family and some equally deranged "brothers". Controlled chaos and crafted Violence are his weapons..even now when he is fighting injustice within the law. He is a bit...crazy? And don't you love a hero with red flags. He once trusted Reese and gave his heart in secret but some misunderstandings made him hate Reese. And Van's hate can be real toxic and corrosive. But Reese broke down his walls. The hate-love-lust banter between Van and Reese is just epic and I think it's Kristy Marie's USP. Van wants to hurt Reese but really cannot go too far because she owns his heart and heaven forbid someone else tries to play with her...he is ready to burn them down, literally. I am excited to read about other brothers because they seem off the charts twisted and I live for such flawed characters.

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]

If you've followed me for a while, you know I love Kristy Marie's books. I'm always excited about a new release, but it pains me to say this is my least favorite. While I think a lot of her reader base will love this one , it just didn't work for me. I mean, I'll still continue with the series because I'm intrigued by some of the unhinged side characters.

What worked for me-
- Reese was a solid lead female character. She's strong, brash, resilient, and not afraid to stand up for herself.
- Van's backstory literally broke my freaking heart 😭
-The sarcastic banter between them
- The sex scenes were 🔥🔥🔥 which is no surprise because Kristy Marie always writes quality steam
- The epilogue 😭 As a mom of a child with a disability it got me right in the feels.

What didn't work for me:
-I found the characters to be kind of exhausting. Even the female lead calls pout the male lead for saying the same things over and over again. She gets it , we get it , moving on.
-I feel like the found family of psychopath vigilantes is a fad in the dark romance genre currently, and I'm over it.

A Vicious Proposal by Kristy Marie is the First book in The Fallen Kings of Eden Series. This starts the story of Van and Reese. Van and Reese knew each other earlier in their lives but a misunderstanding of sorts tore them apart. Now in their present day Reese is a hacker who is a modern day Robin Hood in a way. Van is seeking revenge on the wrong that was done to him and he feels that way toward Reese which leads him to force her to marry him. I can't wait for the next book in this series.

Talk about a book I never saw coming. Reese and Van’s story is unlike anything I’ve read by this author to date and I’ll be the first to tell you, she knocked it out of the park with this read.

Van is the anti-hero you hate to love. His past is troubled and he seeks revenge on those who have wronged him. But, there’s one person from his past that he can’t seem to forget. Reese is his obsession, his perfectly flawed flower. It will be years before Van and Reese are reunited and when they finally are, nothing will ever be the same….

A Vicious Proposal hooked me from the very first page. I was desperate to know more about Van and Reese’s past and how something so perfect could go so terribly wrong. Van is the perfect, morally gray, anti-hero. As much as you want to throttle him, you can’t help but be drawn to him. There’s more to him than meets the eye and I promise, his character does not disappoint.

Reese is the perfect match for Van. She isn’t afraid of him or to speak her mind. She tries to make the best out of an unbelievable situation and won’t rest until the truth sets her free.

Together, Reese and Van made an incredible team. Their banter kept me on my toes and thoroughly entertained me. And the sexual tension between the two of them…off the charts! These two characters were a force to be reckoned with and I couldn’t wait to see how their story would play out in the end.

A Vicious Proposal is the perfect book to spend the weekend curled up in. The writing and the characters will keep you on your toes. The secrets, lies, and sexy times will keep you begging for more. If you love morally gray heroes and friends to enemies to lovers romances, you won’t want to miss this exciting new read from author Kristy Marie!

2.5⭐️ [For safety details, check below]

I finished it. Fucking finally. You guys won't believe how many times I stopped myself from dnfing it.

It is second-ish chance romance between Alister(H) and Reese(h). They met when they were both teenagers (18) and had a fling or a relationship maybe? It was never cleared. There were no details given how they met, what happened between them, how long they were in that relationship or whatever it was. But they loved each other and a little misunderstanding caused them to break apart. And then 9 years later they meet again. And no, they weren't celibate. Heroine (Reese) offered him her virginity back then but he refused so I don't think they had a sexual relationship either. Honestly idk what they even had back then bc they didn't talk about their past at all.

So not a second chance I prefer lol. My last read was also a second chance and it was absolutely amazing. This one has too much separation and not enough connection between characters to make me believe in their HEA. The switch from hating each other to confessing their love was so abrupt that I literally got whiplashed.

And the miscommunication trope. Not a fan of this trope at all.

SAFETY DETAILS:

Cheating:no
Sharing:no
OM drama: when the book started she was in a forced relationship with a guy (Blake) bc he blackmailed her. Dunno if they had sexual relationship or not bc no details were given. Later in the story, she flirted with him so that he could set up a meeting with the Chief and hero got jealous of it.
OW drama: none
Sex scene with OM or OW:none
Virgin/manwhore: no virgins or manwhore
Separation:yes they were separated for 9 years and then again at the end of the story when he decided to let her go. I think they were separated for few days.
Celibate during separation: not celibate in the first 9 years separation but yes to the later one.
Condoms: not used
Safe sex: they didn't talk about safe sex
book info:
-forced marriage
-enemies to lovers
-single bed (kinda)
-asshole hero
-possessive hero
-snarky heroine
-found family
-no condoms
HEA:yes! Happily married with one adopted baby and pregnant with another
SAFE?: for me, it's safe with exception.

Kristy Marie is a genius, this story is intense, sexy, dark and interesting. The pages consumed me and left me wanting more. The suspense had me turning the pages without blinking. MIND-BLOWING.

Van and Reese have a turbulent past full of demons that torment them. Van is a morally gray MMC who loves intensely and Reese is such a brave, sassy and fun girl, I love her so much. Their relationship is complicated and full of secrets, and they go several years without seeing each other, but when Van returns forcing Reese to marry him, the chemistry and love they both have for each other revives with more strength.

A Vicious Proposal is different, unique, raw and so addictive, I loved the connection of the characters, their electrifying chemistry pours off the pages, the unexpected twists left me speechless, it is a story about second chances, love, forgiveness, friendship, loyalty, rebirth, and above all I love that the author places so much emphasis on the found family trope, I already want more of this world and its characters

"Reese Carmichael knows I’m no typical man. I won’t love her tenderly and whisper sweet nothings in her ear. I am the man who will consume her until she’s nothing but a beautiful memory."

From the very beginning, this book intrigued me and it took me a while to figure out Van & Reese's personalities but once I did, I ended up loving them more than I imagined! The intensity of their feelings for each other was palpable and I loved how they were so fierce and passionate! The banter between them was absolutely fantastic and Reese never failed to make me laugh with her unique comebacks. Her personality was just so fun and badass, I admired the living hell out of her! Van was no different when it came to humor lol, he was mysterious and so alluring and it drew me in more. Both of them had their own problems and battles that they had to steer through and their past played a major role in this chaos. Their story was addictive and compelling, there were secrets and some twists were unpredictable. Also, all the side characters were peculiar and it has only spiked my interest. I just can't wait to read the next book set in this world because I fell completely in love with this story, it was just so different and gripping and left me craving for more!

Well hot d∆mn!

Hasn't Kristy Marie just went and wrote a book that completely stomped me! Talk about reading a book and thinking you know what's going on, just for the next part to happen and you think, well sh1t, I didn't see that coming!

I LOVE when that happens!!

This is Reese and Vans story and the banter between the two was top notch, especially from Reese - that girl has no filter is completely nuts!

When you meet Van, you will meet this incredibly dangerous, mysterious and lethal man who takes no nonsense - and then there's Reese who seems to relish in winding him up! She's fearless and she'll fight for anyone who has been wronged. I love them, so big 💙

This storyline has a twist, a few actually and as the story goes on, I fall more and more in love with these characters and I'm super excited for the rest of them!

Congrats Kristy on being an excellent author that leaves us with a smile and wanting more!!

I'm looking forward to this series about seemingly morally grey heroes, and this kicks off with Arsonist Van, aka Alister. I loved Van's single-minded obsession with Reese. He loves her and feels betrayed by her all at once, giving plenty of conflict to the story. He doesn't trust the young hacker and punishes her by trapping her in marriage. I definitely loved Reese's sass in this book because Van needed someone strong and unflinching to match him. Their banter was a highlight for me as they both spit fire at the other. The plot had some intriguing turns and surprises along with a cat that softens the deadly hero. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of his brothers get stories and what heroines they fall for.

Kristy is back like never before!!! Forced marriage, friends to enemies to lovers, morally grey hero, found family, boy obsessed, HILARIOUS BANTER. It’s so different from her other books but it still had her signature feel to it that we all love!

“We made the perfect duo: her goodness, a soothing balm to my darkness.”

Van and Reese are HOT. Their push and pull is constantttt and the things they say to each other 🥵 Reese had me cracking up, she’s so fun

This is such an exciting intro to this new series, I can’t wait for his brothers, especially Tennyson I’m claiming him right now!!!

“No one escapes Van Gogh’s wrath - not even his muse.”

Van Gogh has definitely made me have a thing for arsonists. Whenever he put a match on his tongue, I was dying. This book was full of spicy drama, tension, and mystery!

Reese and Van Gogh were a perfect match. Reese wasn’t a pushover and she complimented his crazy ass. I would’ve loved to see more of her criminal side. And he was so sentimental with her, the little details that were there that showed he really cared about her when he couldn’t say it outright. I love when tough guys go soft for their girls.

You spend the entire book trying to figure out who betrayed Van Gogh, and it was quite the twist! This book was filled with a lot of them, it was fun to see where Kristy Marie took it.

I’m very intrigued by Van Gogh’s brothers and their crazy stories. I can’t wait to read more about them.

“The number one rule of dating a criminal is never to show them how attractive they are when they do bad-boy things.”

“I want you to remember your sunflower will never be burned by your flames.”

“Let’s not play with fire, Flower. It has a way of scarring people who misuse it.”

This was very interesting and unlike anything I’ve ever read. I absolutely loved it! Reese and Van are vigilantes …..But in their own rights. Van seeks justice, while Reese is more of a Robin Hood. He, a serial arsonist and she, a hacker. They had a fling of sorts one summer while they were 18, until Van disappears without a word. Fast forward almost 10 years and the two are reunited; although with a mutual sort of betrayal/hatred of one another.
This book was one wild ride and the writing was different to me as well but I so enjoyed! This book was about secrets, lies, redemption, justice and love. I cannot wait for Tennyson’s story!

Can we say, "Yes, please!"?

A Vicious Proposal is Kristy Marie's first book in her newest series, Fallen Kings of Eden.

If you're a fan of this author's work, just know it's a little edgier than her previous work, yet still has that banter and chemistry between the two main characters that we love so much!

Van and Reese were amazing! Their chemistry all around was just so addictive.

Then there are the other characters we meet. I can't wait to delve into their stories!

If you can't tell, I highly recommend this book!

What a ride! I couldn’t put it down. There was such mystery involved in the center of Van Gogh and Reese’s relationship. It was like as soon as you thought something, twist! The banter and sarcasm is exactly what I expected, being a Kristy Marie fan. It’s constant and one of the main reasons I love her books. There’s also some serious enemies to lovers vibes. They truly hate each other while also being in love. It’s a very odd but works very well.
This book also sets up for us to have more books in this series and I’m very interested in his brothers. I feel like this series will only get better and better and this one was already great.

freakin amazing!!!

Soo.. I just finished the ARC and let me tell you this is a doozy! The story is full of emotions - good and bad, revenge plans, obsession, love and banter, and absolute delightful pissing matches. The more I read the more excited I got to see how the story will unfold.
I loved Van Gogh and Reese in all their complexly complicated glory.
Their hard love with all the obstacles and betrayal and everything else was thrilling to read unfold and develop throughout the book.
I also absolutely eaten up all the side characters with their psychotic tendencies- you’ll have to read the book to understand - cue evil laugh.
All in all, I devoured this book and it was definitely worth the wait.

One of my favorite things about this author is her ability to change things up. She is never one who is afraid to write where her muse takes her. Initially, when I started this I was thinking that a book that was this rich in story and characters needed to be more. Especially, after meeting the side characters. It would been sad to leave with so many possibilities left. That is another testament to how talented she is because she creates stories with characters that feel real. Even in their ability to traverse the fine line of dark/light red flags /green flags, or even good versus bad stands out as extraordinary. I liken her characters to having some traces of her Southern charm in everything she creates, where they will kill you with kindness while also saying, "Bless their heart." In my house, I say bless their heart--mainly to my son, Storm, and my daughter, Rayni, often. To the point that they usually answer back with, "We know what that means." In my defense, they are usually being the village idiot.

I find that when I read a book by this author, I know I'm going to get the trademark snark that I live for in a KM book. She is truly one of the best (looking at you Theo and Remi). Van Gogh was something. His anger was justified. Someone needed to pay and what better person than the person who betrayed him? Or did she? Prepare for a bumpy road before these characters get their ducks lined in a row.

The chemistry between these characters was extraordinary. It's why I read romance and getting this chance to see one of my favorite authors create a story this fantastic makes it even better. I loved the snark (and in all fairness, it wouldn't have been a true KM book without it. The steamy times and chemistry were chef's kiss. I needed these characters to be given a chance for their happily ever after. It had the angst and turmoil that enhanced the story.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention Tennyson, Shakespeare, and Bach. There is a gold mine here for their stories. Each interaction had me asking what their story was. I'm eager to find out.
I did wish a few things came out or had beer explained more, but it didn't weaken this story. In my opinion, this is some of her best work. Van Gogh is up there with my Remington, Timaeus, and Bennett.

This past couple of years, my health has curtailed my reading habits. usually, I have an easy time staying on task or can finish several books in a day instead of just a few chapters a night like my new norm. Yet, once I started this book, life ceased around me, and I stayed up way too late to finish it. That's a testament to this author's talent. Originally, this book was due on my birthday, so even though that didn't happen, I still call it a belated birthday gift. One of the best things of 2024. If the past four years have taught me anything, It is to celebrate the good things that give happiness. This book did that. And the cover?!?! Sweet holy titfire.

I will have to check this review for errors when I get on my computer. Kindle likes to change words on me. I just needed to review it when it was fresh in my mind, regardless that it's 4 am or the fact that I've taken all my nighttime meds so I'm one degree away from loopy.

In my next life, I will not settle for anything less than a man created by KM.

A Vicious Proposal is the first book in the Fallen Kings of Eden series by Kristy Marie and wow- this book is fantastic and already has me craving more of these characters.

4.5 ⭐

This book has a darker vibe running throughout even in the humor- the characters a bit morally grey and while that isn't my general go to, Kristy's writing just simply can captivate me and I couldn't get enough of the push and pull between Reese and Van Gogh/Alistair.

It's that push-pull that had me staying up WAY too late on a work night because Reese and Van's relationship is an almost toxic kind of complicated while they are basically fated to each other. Van while dangerous in his own dark way provides Reese with the kind of safety and protection that she's always wanted while she's almost a calming balm to his tortured soul. Van may have used the idea of a heavy hand into "forcing" Reese to marry him- but let's be honest here and realize that while these two may have been separated for years and there was some misconceptions about each other, there was always love sitting just below the surface. And speaking of love- I absolutely LOVE the spark in Reese- her nonstop chatter to Van's silence, the way she can rile him up for her own entertainment and ultimately her pleasure when her poking at him brings out his caveman side and needing his wife 🥵 And despite his best attempts at being intimidating- the good in Van shines when it comes to Reese and his family giving him that unsuspecting depth that quite a few of my favorite male leads from Kristy seem to have.

I will say that there are some moments that Van and Reese's relationship and interactions felt a little off or forced in this dangerous projection then the next moment it's like a switch was flipped. These moments would kind of take me back for a second and I'd have to re-read the scenes to make sure that I didn't just jump the gun and read too fast that I missed something but in a way I think I understood the flow and feeling that Kristy was going for in those moments.

Van's "family" was an interesting avenue in the story- especially with the twist that Kristy threw in- I can honestly say that I didn't see any of that coming. I'm still a little unsure about what to think when it comes to Van's "brothers". Shakespeare is pretty entertaining in the bits that I got of him but Tennyson and Bach are still both a bit more of a mystery at this point which has me excited to see what kind of tortured past is there while also what kind of future Kristy is planning for them.

★4.70 burning stars★

A fast paced story with unexpected turns at every page. This author knows how to keep the reader engaged and the attention alive. The banter and lively humour added a pleasant note to this angsty filled ride.

~𝙊𝙝. 𝙈𝙮 𝙝𝙪𝙨𝙗𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙨 𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙩𝙚 𝙧𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙘. 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙚 𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙙 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙖 𝙣𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙡 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣. 𝙈𝙮 𝙝𝙪𝙨𝙗𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙧𝙖𝙜 𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙞𝙩~

The story is told in dual POV set in the present we learn about the past with flashbacks from the characters perspective. Reese and Van a fascinating couple. Their development is well balanced and I liked how the author outlines their growth.

~“𝙉𝙤 𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙝𝙤𝙬 𝙢𝙪𝙘𝙝 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙝𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙢𝙚, 𝙃𝙪𝙨𝙗𝙖𝙣𝙙, 𝙄 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙖𝙡𝙬𝙮𝙨 𝙗𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙖𝙣’𝙩 𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙮.~

I was particularly fond of Reese, a smart hacker whose sense of justice felt very close to my idea. Her witty comments, the way she never backs down, her spunk in keeping up with Van and her endearing ways to drive him mad! I just wish we had more information on her past.

~“𝙁𝙤𝙧 𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩 𝙨𝙪𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙨 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙧𝙮𝙥𝙩𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙢𝙮 𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙤𝙣,” 𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙨, “𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙙𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙝 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙤𝙢𝙗 𝙤𝙛 𝙢𝙮 𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙛𝙪𝙡 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩.”~

Van is your typical damaged adult whose past experience is still a burden he can’t get rid of. His snarky and prickly attitude are his distinctive marks, No matter how many fires he starts he can never burn that chip on his shoulder. The only one who isn’t afraid of his deathly flame is Reese and I had so much fun witnessing Van’s struggle and failed attempts at taming his Flower.

~𝙄 𝙢𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙗𝙚 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙨𝙪𝙣𝙛𝙡𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙗𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙡𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙀𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙒𝙚𝙨𝙩, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙄 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙚𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮~

This was my first encounter with Kristy and I can definitely say it won’t be my last one. Her great arrays of characters had me hooked as soon as I was introduced to them. I’m looking forward to reading more of this world.

To absolute no one’s surprise, I loved this book. A beautifully touching story of forgiveness, full of angst and emotion. The banter, OMG, Kristy Marie is a freaking banter queen. I legit kept a smile on face because Van and Reese were so ridiculous but I ate it up. I love the way Kristy writes her heroines, they are always ‘take no shit’ kinda girls and my gawd it is everything. Reese was no different, she did not back down from the broody, angry man that was Van Gogh. She had no issues with challenging him and testing every last nerve. She also gave as good as she got, leaving me completely giddy.
Speaking of Van, when I tell you this man gave absolutely zero fcks. He would literally burn you and all your possessions to ash without a second of thought. But, ooh wee, oh my, the man left me utterly hot and bothered. Every time, he threatened Reese and the life of anyone who looked at her wrong, I couldn’t help but fan myself a bit (oh who are we kidding, it was more than a bit) because I’m sorry it was hawt, hawt, haawt! He was a walking, talking scrumptious red flag and I was left catching drool. Kristy Marie just slays me every time! Van and Reese’s story was chef’s kiss perfection and I cannot waaaait for the next installment in the Fallen Kings of Eden series! I can feel it in my spirit, it’s going to be one hell of a ride!
