Seasons of Love #1

Fall Into You

Rate this book
What happens when a family-oriented woman falls in love with her brother’s best a sweet, recovering ladies’ man her family doesn’t approve of?

I’ve always loved being part of my family. We’re Italian, which, by definition, means that we’re completely in each other’s business and sticklers for tradition. But when Matt, my brother’s sexy best friend from college, comes back into our lives looking hotter and acting sweeter than ever, my family’s involvement really starts to get on my nerves.

I pretty much fall for Matt from day one, so when my brother draws a firm line in the sand and forbids us from dating, it really becomes a problem for me. Being with Matt is the first thing that’s made me happy since my dad’s passing and I’m not going to let my brother stand in the way of that.

I guess we’ll just have to keep things a secret…

If you like Tessa Bailey’s It Happened One Summer or Christina Lauren’s In a Holidaze, you’ll love this book!

Fall Into You is an open-door, laugh-out-loud romantic comedy about forbidden love and finding yourself after loss.

Thank you to Caroline Frank and Booksprout for my eARC of “Fall Into You” in exchange for my honest review.

Let me preface this by saying I am a typical white b*tch in that I love the autumn, it’s basically a requirement as a New Englander. So, the premise of “Fall Into You” and the cover alone had me clamoring to read this.

FYI, spoilers lay ahead.

However, I was a bit confused at the start where Matt kinda instantly falls for Liza. He doesn’t remember he’s met Liza a few times when she visited her brother, Vinny, at college and he was her brother’s roommate. But he immediately calls her “well-read, smart, and quick-witted” and says “I was dying to get to know her better but was scared it would be too obvious if I only focused on her…” This is like just after being re-introduced to her as a more mature adult but he doesn’t remember her. It makes it sound as though he was pining away for her during their like six years apart. How can he assess and think she’s well-read, smart, and quick-witted from their like two minute interaction? And saying that he was “dying to get to know her better” - it just seemed like he was the one who had a crush on her.

When I read it though, I felt a bit annoyed with Liza. She is constantly trying to keep her relationship with Matt a secret from her brother, Vinny. She also pushes Matt away multiple times and just makes childish and rash decisions. Matt, I loved him. He is caring, sweet, intelligent - a great person and partner but Liza kinda takes advantage of his caring nature.

I think there was some wasted opportunity here with the plot that Matt didn’t remember Liza. Maybe like him feeling more guilty about it? Or having him not immediately fall for Liza in quite the same way but have them interact more before he gets warned off by Vinny? Or have Liza more forward in her desire of Matt at the beginning?

And the other thing that really bothered me, spoilers, is the pregnancy trope. Liza has finals coming up and she gets sick, says it’s normal for her to throw up all the time when she’s nervous but “Oh no! She’s actually pregnant!” and then it’s basically happily ever after from there. The pregnancy trope is one of my least favorites so some readers may enjoy this but I didn’t.

While the chemistry is there for Liza and Matt and there are some sweet, tender, and a few steamy moments, I feel like the potential for a fabulous fall romance was missed. It started out great with the pumpkin patch (ignoring the Matt kinda instantly falls for her bit) but then wavers as Liza begins to get on my nerves with her persistence that they don’t let anyone know they’re dating and how she shuts Matt out multiple times. I wanted cute fall dates and since it was billed as “erotic romance,” I wanted some more steam, more spice. I left feeling that Matt deserved better and so did the reader.

While it may sound like I am bashing the book, please do not think so. It’s still a decently good read. I’m glad I did have the chance to read it. I just think with the amount of potential it had, it was squandered. I will pick up another one of Frank’s books in the future because I do think the author is talented but this just didn’t hit the mark for me.

First of all, I loved the fall vibes in this book! Like this novel screams autumn – pumpkin patches, Halloween costume party & thanksgiving – what more do I need….
A better romance plot! The romance was kind of insta love – what I personally dislike because it lacks in tension built-up. There was nothing really that intrigued me because of the instant attraction and the amazingly fast relationship built up, which is just not my type of romance book.
Nevertheless, it was a cute romance with an amazing autumn atmosphere.

No just no

The amount of toxicity and insta love was just too much. I just wanted a cute fall romance book and instead got a cringy toxic whatever the heck that was.

What a lovely fall romcom! Pumpkin patches and cozy sweaters and thanksgiving and spice! 🙌🏻

I immediately liked Liza & Matt. Liza had me laughing out loud in the first chapter. And Matt! 🔥

Liza’s sister in law, Danielle, is another favorite character in this story. So funny and supportive.

Liza’s brother Vinny had some good character development. I was not a fan of him… but then he had some redemption in the end.

You know when you take forever to write a review because there's so much you want to say and don't want to miss a thing? This is one of those.

Matt and Liza's story is one that'll stay in my memory bank, forever. Though I didn't mind, Frank's "love-at-first-sight" might stun some readers and challenge their suspension of belief a bit. Keep reading! Those who decide to stay will see how Liza waits (as a woman should!) to see how Matt *shows* his love. In turn, the way Liza commits to Matt (not just to a relationship with him -- to MATT; there's a difference, as we see with her broken engagement with Jeremy). Overall, the way the characters interact with one another is with an emotional maturity and tenderness that I have rarely encountered in a romance novel.

This book is real, doesn't cut corners, and provides layers of depth to its characters. It was a delight to read, and I look forward to reading every book baby that Caroline Frank gives birth to. È nata per essere una scrittrice.

Oh! One more thing! Liza calls herself "dramatic," but it's her willingness to express what's actually going on (in a rational way!) that makes this book a 5-star read for me.

This was a super enjoyable read with some great character development! You can’t help but but root for the main couple, though there are some yell-at-the-book, are you crazy?!? moments. I thought Caroline Frank did a great job in creating characters and a story that makes the pages just fly along. The only drawback I found was the ending comes too fast. There’s so much lead up and about a chapter of wrap-up. I would have rated it a little higher if the balance was a bit more even. Overall, entertaining and light, steamy and fun.

I'm really loving the autumn-themed books I'm getting to read this year. They are sweet and cozy and just right for the change of seasons before we get to the rush of Hallmark-type Christmas stories.

Fall Into You by Caroline Frank is a fun, brother's-best-friend romance (one of my favorite tropes) which finds grad student Liza falling for her brother Vinny's college buddy, Matt. I knew Liza was going to be my kind of girl when, in the first pages of the book, she gets dumped by her jerk of a fiancé and instead of the expected whining and crying, all he gets from her is snark and derision.

While Liza and Vinny are visiting their mother on Long Island, they are surprised when Vinny's old college friend Matt shows up unexpectedly (and, because this is a rom-com, at the worst possible moment). There is an instant spark of attraction between Liza and Matt, but her brother notices and quickly vetoes that notion. But Vinny only knows Matt from back in their college days, when Matt was a player and a partier. He's more mature now, but Liza is freaked out by the idea of Vinny finding out about her budding relationship with Matt, so of course everything has to be kept a secret. Until the secret comes out, as secrets always do.

I have to admit that I frequently wanted to smack Liza with her own book and make her get over herself with the secrecy, but overall I enjoyed the plot, and the characters are awesome. Especially Danielle – I think she needs her own book. 😊 I also appreciated the realistic portrayals of grief and of the challenges of being a parent. Thank you Caroline Frank for giving us such a lovely book!

Side note: I don't come from a large Italian family, but I have spent time with one, and the scenes in Liza's mother's house made me smile. Also – RECIPES at the end of the book! Don't miss those!

Thank you to the author for providing a copy of this book for review.

This was the perfect Fall, dual POV, brother's best friend/forbidden romance full of a big-hearted interfering Italian family, steamy open door scenes and tons of heart. I was invested in this book right from the start with Liza's hilarious disaster of an engagement turned breakup. Newly single she runs into her brother's old college buddy, Matt when he comes over for a family dinner in her childhood home. Knowing her brother Vinny would never approve, the two start a secret relationship with things turning real VERY quickly. My only quibble with this book was just how fast Liza and Matt's relationship moves but on the whole I loved all the funny family dynamics and fall vibes (pumpkin patch adventures and toddler puke included). Relatable and heartwarming. I can't wait to read more from this new to me indie romance author!

I normally don't read self-published books because I've been burned in the past, however, Fall Into You was recommended by a friend and I am so happy I read it!

This was a super cute romantic comedy set in fall in New York - think apple cider, pumpkin patches and fall fashion!

The story is told from dual POVs:
•Liza, a grad student from a big, loving Italian family who recently lost her beloved father .... and
•Matt, a surgeon who recently moved to NYC and happens to be Liza's brother's best friend from college

When Matt shows up unexpectedly for a family lunch, Liza's teen crush on him comes back hard, especially after seeing how much he has matured from the frat bro her brother used to bring around. After a trip to the pumpkin patch with the family, Matt realizes he is crushing on Liza, too.

The only problem... Liza's brother notices the mutual crush and invokes the bro code, telling Matt not to date Liza. Will the pair settle for a secret romance? Will Liza's brother find out? You'll have to read to see!

Content Warnings: Death of a parent, violent outburst

This is such a cute fall brother’s best friend romance!!! Matt is a recovered ladies man, and Liza is his best friend’s “kid” sister who suddenly is single and no longer a kid. Matt instantly falls for Liza, and Liza cannot believe her luck—she’s been crushing on Matt since the one time she met him as a kid. Just one problem, Liza’s overly protective brother made Matt promise he would stay away from his little sister.

Tropes: brother’s best friend, age gap, secret crush, love at first sight

Read this book if you enjoy:

🎃Perfect fall vibes
☠️Brother’s best friend trope
💕Forbidden love
🪄Instant connection
🥰Swoon worthy main charters

🥵Spice level: 🌶🌶

⚠️TW: loss of parent

This was such a delight to read! The book alternates between the two main characters, Liza and Matt. It was a joy to read from both of their perspectives. I loved Liza’s overbearing Italian family, all the mentions of food, the fall vibes, and how swoon worthy Matt was. This was a sweet, saucy, wholesome read that did a good job on tackling grief from loss of a parent. The only issue I had with this book was at times you wanted to shake Liza and tell her to get it together, but no ones perfect and it’s unrealistic to think that fictional characters should also be perfect. Besides the romance between the MC, my favorite part of this book is Liza’s sister-in-law, Danielle. Everyone needs a sister like her!

Definitely recommend you to pick this one up during the holiday season! Also, the back of the book was some serious mouth watering recipes. Can’t wait to try them out!

Thank you so much Caroline Frank and Booksprout for my free eARC! This is my voluntary review. 🥰

SPOILERS AHEAD*

SUMMARY:
Liza comes from a very family-oriented background, considering her family is full-body Italian. Her life seems to come to a stop after losing her dad. She’s left with her family (mother, brother, sister-in-law and her niece and nephew), a necklace her dad gave her, and the boyfriend he “loved” for her. And then she gets broken up with by her fiancé, leaving her questioning whether or not she should even get back into dating, considering this was the boyfriend her father had happily approved of before passing.

Then, she finds herself reconnecting with an old roommate of her brothers, from college - Majestic Matt. The infamous ladies man from med-school. He’s still as beautiful as ever, and though she was nothing but the awkward high school senior when they first met, it seems Matt has noticed how much she’s grown up. But, since Matt’s a bro-of-bros, he promises Vinny, Liza’s brother, he wouldn’t think of going after Liza.

Obviously, promises were meant to be broken while Liza tries to trust her own judgement and Matt tries to prove he’s grown up since college and can handle a real relationship.

*REVIEW
I wanted to fall balls-deep-in-love with this book, and I definitely was in the beginning. But, then it felt like the entire book was the beginning, and I was waiting for something to happen. It felt like once they got together (which was very, very soon), it moved much too fast but nothing really happened. I love Matt, but I feel like had there been a little bit of a push and pull between Liza and him, maybe even a set-back that pushes Matt to think he had to fall into older habits, it might’ve made his growth so much more prominent. I feel like the characters, while likeable, were all sort of stagnant.

The book takes place within two months, and in that short time all of life’s offerings happen without anything pushing them to happen. I also feel like the two main characters / love interests lacked a bit of chemistry. I wish to have seen more of the in-between moments between Liza and Matt -- more banter, more fighting, more passion. I wanted more on the relationship Vinny and Liza had before her father’s passing and then how they managed to become closer as siblings after. I also would’ve loved to see Liza’s reaction when learning that her dad didn’t like Jeremy, how she would’ve felt knowing she wasted so much time on someone else. It was brought up once, to Matt, and then never again.

That being said, the book was sweet and I loved Danielle, probably my favorite character. This was my first read by Caroline, and I’d definitely read more of her writing. Maybe a Vinny + Danielle book?

THATS ALL I HAVE TO SAy!!!! I fell in love with Matt and I could not for the love of me put this book down (aside from when I’m working of course)!!
This is the first book I have read from this author and I cannot wait to read more of her books! The spicy 🌶 I really enjoyed!!!!!! It was not as spicy as I was expecting so I really enjoyed that!!! Just enough 😌
I also really enjoyed the characters and the dial POVs! I was very surprised when I saw that I could read Matt’s point of view but it was the best thing to see how things are unfolding and his frustrations and his insecurities! I would recommend this story to everyone!!
Please please please read this and fall in love with Matt like I have! Thank you to the author for such a fun read and booksprout for the opportunity to read this ARC!!

Thank you BookSprout and Caroline Frank for the digital advance copy of falling for you.

Want a feel good RomCom for the autumn then this book is for you Liza is a women with low self esteem and newly single . Matt is her brother best friend, sexy and Liza's crush so when he comes over for thanks giving Liza can’t believe her luck. Her brother on the other hand doesn’t want Mart anywhere near his sister. Get ready for a bumpy ride
This was just what I needed to read in between the obvious romcom sequences we have a great book that rxplorrd the idea of identity and self worth. I found both protagonist to be deeply thought out characters with a dtrinf hacj story I also enjoyed the first person narrations from both parties and found I really touted for Matt but also totally understood Liza
The written itself is incredible and had me turning pages until the early hours from the halifious one liners to the df deprecation I felt connected to them both. I will say ghraivhyer of this book though was some of the main reasons I was up all night and defenantly the cause of several new laughter lines .

In generall this was an amazing story that was told and you can tell it near and dear to the Author. Written was such detail and precession. This is why it’s recieving a very generous 4 stars. I love thisauthor and will commis skgh jsd books in the future, I’m also hoping these characters will become a series as I can feel their shot isn’t finished.

Thankful to receive this as an ARC from the author and booksprout! (Voluntarily giving a review.)

This sounded like it would be a cute and fun love story - and it is!

Liza’s boring professor fiancé, Jeremy, breaks up with her after 3 years of being together. Liza doesn’t seem to care too much, except that her deceased father liked him, and Jeremy admitted to cheating on her. He seemed pretty terrible, but now Liza is unsure about relationships. On a trip to her mom’s, amid family time including her brother, Vinny, his wife, Danielle (best side character!!) and their twins, Vinny’s old college roommate, Matt, comes by. Liza remembers ‘Majestic Matt’ fondly, and is impressed with seeing him. He doesn’t remember her from her high school days, but he’s definitely immediately drawn to her now. Liza and Matt hit it off instantly! Too bad her overprotective big brother remembers Matt’s wild days and forbids him to pursue his sister. Stupid bro code! Now they are both successful doctors, but Vinny is convinced Matt couldn’t be good for his sister. But the attraction is too great to deny. The secret relationship trope of dating the brother’s best friend is off and running. There are some ups and downs and miscommunications, but this insta-love story is pretty cute. Matt seems so genuine and sincere. But what will happen when Vinny finds out?! What kind of future could there be built on lies and secrecy?
For the most part I was happy with how it all plays out!

I was definitely rooting for Liza and Matt! She was a bit annoying at times, but also cute, and he was patient and seemed pretty great. I loved her family dynamics! The Italian family traditions (especially the food) are a great backdrop for the family scenes. And her supportive friend, Barbara, was a fun addition. Most of the story is light, fun and flirty, but then it had surprising depth and had me in tears. Matt, Vinny and Liza are all still dealing with the loss of their fathers. Even years later this affects relationships and how they approach life. Some tender and vulnerable moments are mixed in, which made me feel even more fondly for the characters. Some parts seemed to be trying too hard (with repetitive mentions of how hard and fast Matt and Liza were falling for each other,) but some parts had some genuine sweetness that I liked.

Overall I enjoyed it. 4⭐️ romance for me.

*Interesting to read a book set post Covid but still with some Covid precautions. I guess there is a fine balance for authors with this new reality. It mostly doesn’t play a part in the book until a mask is required in the hospital and spectators aren’t allowed at graduation. It doesn’t really affect the book but it’s interesting to note that the author did address this new situation of our modern culture.

(FYI - there are some formatting issues with the ARC from booksprout to Kindle, so I went back and forth between the PDF of the book (to make sure I didn’t miss any of the great content) and the kindle version (for ease of reading.) The fact that I was interested enough in knowing how this story played out to go to the extra effort is a testament in itself to how captivating this story is! And the author was very kind in her response about the issue. I’m sure this will be all worked out for publication.)

This is a perfect cozy read/listen for the fall season which I’m all about. The story follows Liza who falls for her brother’s best friend Matt. Her brother Vinny has forbidden Matt from pursuing Liza so they decide to keep things secret until they know if it’s serious between them. Overall I liked the story & the fall vibes. I really only disliked one thing & that was Vinny’s character. The overprotective brother trope was to the extreme with him & he made me roll my eyes most of the time. Liza & Matt’s story is cute though & most of the other characters are funny & enjoyable. I liked the narrators & the inflections they added to certain scenes. It really brought the characters to life & set the tone for whatever was going on.

Thank you to NetGalley & Dreamscape Media for the advance copy.

Fall Into You was a fun cozy romance set in the best season of all… fall! I was drawn to this audiobook because of the cover and was quickly invested in Matt and Liza’s developing relationship. The secret/forbidden romance between the two of them was super 🔥🔥 and I loved how their story unfolded. At times I wanted to shake some sense into Liza and tell her to grow up as she sometimes gave really immature vibes, but she got it together eventually! I enjoyed listening to the audiobook version, the narrators did a great job portraying the characters and the intensity between them!

I absolutely LOVED this fall read! It was so cute and perfect for the holidays! Fall is my favorite season so it was awesome. I also loved how the author put recipes from the story at the back of the book. I will definitely be using some of not all of those because they sound delicious! I can't wait to read more from this author!

It's been a few years since Liza has seen her brother's friend, Matt. He's as charming and good-looking as she remembers but now that he has reconnected with her brother, he is off-limits. Neither Liza nor Matt can ignore the sparks that are flying between them, and they tip toe through "not dating" and fall madly in love with one another. Can their relationship survive the pressure of the secrets and lies with her family?

This book was ADORABLE! There was something so charming about Caroline Frank's writing style. From the get-go, I loved Frank's humor in this book and how cute her characters were. Liza was a bit dramatic with a funny flair and I thought it was hilarious that she was so obviously into Matt. Matt had no chill when it came to Liza and I loved that he was all-in from the beginning. I also liked that he had this flawed past and that he was still flawed in many ways. Liza and Matt were the perfect match for each other! That chemistry translated to those intimate moments they had in private and they were even cute in the bedroom (while being very sexy at the same time).

One of my favorite parts about this book was Vinny. He seemed to be your typical overbearing older brother in a brother's best friend romance, but part way through the book, I realized that he was so much more than that. The complexity of his feelings around Liza and Matt's betrayal gave this story another level of depth that I really enjoyed.

I loved this brother's best friend/forbidden romance and I hope you will love it, too!

Steam level: 🔥🔥🔥
⚠️: grief, infidelity (not between the main characters), mention of death of a parent, heart attack & cancer
