I live and work in Victoria, British Columbia. I am the child of two anthropologists, which gave me a keen eye for observation and a bad case of wanderlust. My interest in writing for teenagers came out of working at a number of interesting schools around the world. In the Snowy Mountains of Australia, I taught ancient history to future Olympic athletes. Closer to home, my family and I lived and worked with students from over 100 countries at a non-profit international school.

Pretty good, it was wierd how he treated the love interest, Robin, by not really giving her a personality besides courier bike rider, but still wrote "She's thr best thibg to cone out of this whole year, and I haven't forgotten that for a minute." I guess that most of the relationships weren't very fleshed out because most of the book was Sam and his thoughts. Still was a good story, but this author's other books are better.

I finished reading the novel Dead Run by Sean Rodman. A story about a young man trying to make it to the big leagues. The novel is about a teenager named Sam who is trying to become a professional cyclist, Sam bends over backwards and commits crimes for his coach for the level of commitment he has dedicated to cycling. The story wasn’t very action packed to begin with. It started out very slow and boring, but eventually after three quarters of the novel it started to get more intense and more action packed. The story is also has a little bit of romance, Sam meets Viktor’s employee Robin who he practically falls in love with her at first sight. The Story also has some dramatic scenes with Sam and Viktor bickering about his training technics.
I think the quality of the book is average because I wasn’t impressed with the time it took to reach the climax of the book. The author did an alright job on the romance part with Sam and Robin by making them work together and complete runs together then the romance on the grass when they first kissed. I think he could have improved on the action. It took way too long to get the action. The novel was kind of a page turner because the beginning to the middle was very boring and the last bit was a real good page turner.
A person who I recommend to read this book would be a not very strong reader. Like myself. The words aren’t very big and there isn’t a whole load of pages.

Rodman does a pretty good job at painting a gritty, tough, rider-against-the-city atmosphere. I enjoyed reading about the cycling culture Rodman portrays as it is an interest of mine. Cycling is still a bit of a fringe sport in North America and it was good to see it getting some exposure. The gang money-laundering plot point is one of the weaker parts of the book. The villain is a one-handed Serbian ex-soldier with the wardrobe of a mafia boss and I couldn’t help but think of every terrible James Bond villain. In terms of believable conflict, the challenges of Sam reining in his attitude, coping with Viktor’s demands and getting to know Robin are all much more relatable and realistic.

Sam lives to race bicycles. When a former Olympian cyclist offers to train him, so long as Sam becomes a messanger for his courier company. Sam grabs the opportunity. But, the job turns out to be more than Sam expected when he finds himself running for his life.
Fast paced and full of suspense, this book is an excellent choice for reluctant readers. The characters are believable, and the gritty, urban setting realistic.

Dead Run is decent but not something I would go to for anything other than a quick book to help catch up with my reading challenge. That is really the only reason I picked it up.

This reminded me of a sort of light version of the movie Premium Rush. I really enjoyed it. It would've been even better if it had been longer!

It was a good book. Teaches you to play smart and not just fast in a race.
