B.A.D. Agency #4

Verdad Silenciada

Rate this book

I really disliked this book. It was bad and not a good bad It was a bad-bad. It was bad! Can I stress that enough? Sherrilyn Kennyon is one of my favourite authors. But I don’t always like her books. I really didn’t like this one, really.

The plot in a sentence:

What I thought of the plot:

description

B-O-R-I-N-G! This picture describes it all. Very long, I could not bring myself to finish it, it was that bad! Don’t bother!

The writing: I normally like Sherrilyn Kenyon’s writing. Not here, I disliked the characters voices and I didn’t like all the different POV’s it was told from. I didn’t like the writing. Full stop.

The characters: No comment. Kill me now!

description

Actually a small comment. They both annoyed me, they were stupid and ass-y. I wanted to strangle both of them. Every second of the book (the part that I read).

Overall: Do not bother. The only I will say. If you still decide to read this, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

I really always feel badly for the book that follows something I've been looking forward to. Like when I was reading the Harry Potter books, with every new book the anticipation was so huge and then I would be in a post book funk and start a new book and it's just difficult to get in to. So this book had the unfortunate distinction of following Lover mine. It took me almost 3 weeks to finish it. It wasn't bad. It was more of the same from this series, it just wasn't Lover Mine, the director's cut with all the deleted scenes and extra bits that I really wanted to read...

Hunter Thornton-Payne has been a BAD agent in most books. You read about his surly personality and you just know there is something deep down that is interesting. He could be just another trust fund kid that parties and sleeps with women but he went into the CIA and then BAD. He is a government agent that can move around in social circles most people can't. He has serious trust issues that started early in his life with a cold mother. He spent his life protecting his brother and watching women lie to his father. Then Eliot breaks through his protective wall and becomes the only person in the world he trusts. Of course Eliot then gets himself killed. And you find out all of that in chapter one.

Enter Abbie Blanton. She's been burned in love and she herself has trust issues and a serious case of so stubborn you might be stupid.

The story of Hunter & Abbie unfolds in your typical romance novel fashion. There seem to be some things that are left unresolved that I would have liked to see tied up and it is setting up nicely at least 2 more books. Since the addition of Dianna Love and the storyline of the Fratelli, the story has gotten better. And for those that read the previous books, we actually find out what has happened to Carlos and Gabrielle. We see a few of the old characters and we seem to lose one (or maybe we didn't, I'm convinced there was some mistake that we don't know- like he was found by the bad guys and being kept and tortured for secrets).

Anyway, these books won't change your life, but they are a nice way to pass the time and I look forward to the next one....

I really have a thing for "Hunters". And OMG! I loved this one.

"How do you do that?"
"What, sweetheart?"
"Make me crazy to beat you one minute and crazy to love you the next."
---
"How about a deal?"
"Sounds like something that requires hours and hours of negotiating."
"One thing isn't negotiable."
"What?"
"That I love you and always will."

Can somebody tell me if Retter and Joe have their own stories too?

I admit that I did not really like Hunter when I read Whispered Lies because he seemed like a pompous jerk, but I have since seen the error of my ways. After reading this book, I see how misunderstood he is and that he'd been protecting himself from getting hurt while biding his time for finding Eliot's killer. It broke my heart when Eliot died, when Hunter's team was horrible to him, when he doubted Abbie after talking to Gotthard, and when Abbie walked away from him and didn't look back. I love that he did everything he could to help Abbie and her mother, even at the expense of his own life. I was in tears when he showed that he trusted her by taking her to meet Cynthia and Theo and by telling her the location of Borys and the new safe house. I bet he's a really awesome lover...

I loved Abbie's dedication to helping her mother. She has stupid sisters. I love that she loved Hunter, but I hated when she walked away from him. I wanted to slap her for her blind trust in a brother she'd never met, and I knew the JC Killer was her brother once they found out she had a brother through KORE.

I cannot believe Korbin is dead. A part of me still believes he's alive and he's going to show up at random. Even though I know that's highly unlikely to happen. And I felt really bad for Rae.

I knew that Hunter was the guy from six year before even before it was revealed, so I'm pretty sure I giggled like a school girl when it was confirmed that I was right.

I loved Silent Truth even more than I loved Whispered Lies (much as it's hard to believe). That being said, it started out a little slowly. However, it soon picked up and it was bliss and happiness (just kidding) from then on.

Focusing on the sinister machinations of the Angeli, the seven men with ancient bloodlines hidden within the guise of the Fratelli, Silent Truth takes us deeper into understanding just how much power and scope the brotherhood has wielded for centuries. Nothing, not the Black Plague, global warming, or the attack on the Twin Towers, has escaped their meddling.

Four years ago, Hunter's partner and best friend was forced to sacrifice himself for the sake of the mission. Since then, Hunter has refused another partner within the BAD organization so that he would be able to take out the man responsible without jeopardizing anyone else's career or life. Abigail is desperate to find help for her dying mother who went in to an elite women's medical facility for a routine blood draw just days ago, and she knows they did something to her to cause her illness. Blackmailing her way into a black tie fundraiser for the facility, she connects with Hunter, and when the hostess of the event is shot while talking with Abby alone in a garden, BAD realizes that there is a connection between the facility and the Fratelli, but what could it be?

Hunter goes rogue to protect Abby and to find his friend's killer, and learns he has feelings for her he can't deny. Ultimately, he will have to chose—Abby or tens of thousands of lives.

Kenyon and co-author Dianna Love have crafted a complex series of romantic thrillers with a unique storyline that paints the world as a giant stage, its population as puppets, the Fratelli as puppet masters, and BAD as the ones responsible for bringing down the curtain and saving mankind.

This was a great read, altho I must say it had to have been written more by co-author Diana Love than Sherrilyn Kenyon. Ms. Love's writing is not as distinctive as Ms. Kenyon's.

So other than the strangeness of reading a "Kenyon" book without the great lines and quotes, this book was a heck of a ride! It is very fast-paced, good plot and I pretty much dug the characters altho I felt our TV investigative reporter, Abbie, disconnected from her past life too easily when she was immersed into danger. A real IR would use techniques learned in the biz to search for answers and certainly to read people. Our Abbie is whiny and always arguing.

I've heard of Hunter Thornton-Payne III in previous B.A.D. books but all I really knew what that he was super-rich, tall & blonde. I envisioned him like the rich FBI agent in the TV program, Sue Thomas F.B.I./Eye" (Ted Atherton). Now I find out that Hunter is more than a pretty face, he's a determined black ops operative out for vengance against the assassin who shot his partner 4 years ago. He also is quite good at keeping a secret because he lets no one in B.A.D. know he's after that guy because that would mean he's gone rogue (a punishing offense); in fact, he tells them HE killed his partner after he became too injured to get away. Man, that's something I could never do!

You MIGHT guess who the villian is before the end, but it won't be by much.

There are not enough stars for this AMAZING book! Hunter is the perfect 007 type...with a heart of gold and a wounded soul. Amazing, amazing book!!!

I was hard on the change to the style of the BAD books, but this one has converted me. I love this Kenyon/Love book! Amazing storyline, amazing backdrops, great characters! I am only sad that the book had to end!

Probably the grimmest of the BAD series and not as much sex. Hunter bites the big one. Reminded me of a plot from JD Robb's In Death series.

An unbelievably awesome book and series (BAD Agency). The authors are awesome together. I don't know were they started or stopped they seam it together so well. The series is about men and women who stop or try to stop organizations who want to take over the world. They can be organizations, terrorists, spy's for other country, ect. Some of the things they do can make you jealous because you want to be able to do them. This combo is beautiful and they give you a story that could be true and ALL the feelings that go with it. Awesome story and series. My sister loaned me this book from her stash. I love her a little more for that, now I need to get it back to her.

Hunter has one thing on his mind as he prepares for an evening at a posh fund-raiser - find the man who killed his partner and friend. Abbie is hyper focused on her agenda as well, trying to blend in to the wealthy crowd just long enough to figure out how to save her mother's life. When shots ring out, the two will be thrown together, forced to accept help from each other. Can the two work together, learn to trust each other in a world on the brink of disaster?

Not the best action/adventure, suspense story I've read, a bit predictable, but it kept my attention with just enough twists to keep me guessing.

This was another fun spy romance. The sexist parts of the bad guys is REALLY hard to read though. If threats of sexual violence and the like are triggering, I would not recommend for you. It also didn't wrap up the Fratelli storyline satisfactorily.

BAD agent Hunter Wesley Thornton-Payne III seemed to have a superior complex over the entire group with his connections within tight social groups that were hard to infiltrate. He pissed a few people off, a bit distant, not obviously arrogant, knows that he has a few advantages than most, a playboy but Hunter knows what he's doing. I only took a slight interest in him so I didn't have high expecations but I was curious about his reputation and how he falls for a woman would play out.

I've only read 'Whispered Lies' in the series, so that was his first appearance for me in the series. In 'Silent Truth,' we get the full blown history of why Hunter acts like he does and his trust issues. This was all crammed in the first chapters of the book which I thought was very straight-forward. Not sure if I like the heavy past flashback because I was already sympathetic and understand Hunter so it erased the mysterious air off quickly. I didn't mind that because it was his journey of trust and facing his past.

Hunter is on an operation that threatens the entire nation (as usual) with a goal of revenge on a killer that killed his only close friend. Enter investigator reporter Abbie Blanton who has her own personal vendetta that invovles her ailing mother and who's responsible. It turns out to a be a bigger network of the bad guys which I thought worked well. Hunter forces Abbie's cooperation after a close shoot-out that nearly took her life twice during/after a gala. Both are immediately suspicious but cannot stop the attraction.

Abbie doesn't trust men after a bad memory and keeps away. Hunter likewise thinks the same but indulges only for pleasure. What I really liked was when Abbie doesn't remember that drunken night with Hunter which was a blow to his ego. There were similarities in their situation with 'Whispered Lies' that it was predictable the downfall of their relationship. I really liked Abbie. She was such a strong character, not stupid at all, and how she was portrayed was a woman who would do anything to help her only family, cares for a man but rightfully pulls away when he doesn't give her anything and just brilliant. Hunter with his growing attraction and the inner battle with his motives was heartbreaking.

The problems I had was the pacing. While Hunter and Abbie's relationship progress, somewhere in the middle they are at a standstill and Hunter is always hesitant to take a step forward. To me, Abbie seemed to work harder for his everything while Hunter just won't face his problem. There are major obstacles and it isn't even resolved until the ending where Hunter finally acts. A little too late, but at least it happened.

The plot isn't in the background at all and plays a larger part with both character's personal problems. I didn't care for it later on because it kept stacking over-exaggerating 'danger danger!' around them it almost felt unrealistic. Adrenaline rush, action, deception and just a little twist got me into it then. There were some things that I didn't see coming so I guess it was a plus point for suspense. 'Linette' from before appears again and I'm liking her direction and role. Can't wait for more with her. A slightly better read in this series.

Recommended Read.

My review originally posted on Joyfully Reviewed: http://www.joyfullyreviewed.com/revie...

Hunter Wesley Thornton-Payne III is used to his colleagues at the Bureau of American Defense not particularly wanting to work with him and that’s just the way he likes it. After his best friend’s death four years ago, Hunter is just biding his time – and convincing his boss he’s not going to go rogue – while he waits to catch the assassin responsible for Eliot’s death. In the meantime, Hunter is stuck at a charity fundraiser, waiting for BAD’s contact in the sadistic terrorist group, the Fratelli de il Sovrano, to pass off important information to him. When his current mission collides with his personal vendetta, Hunter sees the opportunity to wreak vengeance on the one who murdered Eliot. There’s just one problem…

Reporter Abbie Blanton is on a mission of her own. Ten days ago, her mother contracted a mysterious illness that is swiftly killing her. The only way to save her is for Abbie to get information from a high-profile heiress at her family’s fundraiser. But then the heiress is shot as Abbie talks to her and Abbie finds herself thrust into a world like one she’s never before known.

Hunter and Abbie soon find themselves in a race against time to disrupt the Fratelli’s newest plot, find the assassin on their trail, and save Abbie’s mother. With danger around every corner, the last thing either of them needs is the distraction of desire. But when passion and love enter the mix, both will have to face the scariest thing of all: opening their hearts to one another.

Prepare yourself for a pulse-pounding thrill ride of a story with this exciting, sensual installment to the fantastic BAD Agency series. Ever since he was first introduced in the series, I have been waiting for Hunter’s story. Silent Truth did not disappoint. Hunter is gorgeous, brilliant, and has a past that makes him put up a cool exterior to all he meets. His fellow agents think he’s a jerk, but in Silent Truth, the real Hunter shines through. Hunter needed a woman who was strong enough to break down the walls around his heart, and Abbie was just that woman. She’s had her own fair share of heartbreak and betrayal and she doesn’t let it stop her from trusting Hunter. The two of them work well as a couple in every way, making me fall headfirst in love with their romance.

Silent Truth is the eighth story (fourth full-length book) in the BAD Agency series. Hunter and Abbie’s romance stands on its own, but to fully understand the extent of the Fratelli subplot, I recommend reading the previous two books (Phantom in the Night and Whispered Lies) first, as the Fratelli storyline began with Phantom in the Night and has continued on from there.

Separately, Sherrilyn Kenyon and Dianna Love are two of my favorite authors. When they write as a pair? Pure magic. Silent Truth is romantic suspense at its best and I absolutely loved it! I can’t wait to see what this dynamic duo comes up with next and I am eagerly awaiting the next BAD Agency book.

After reading Whispered Lies I wasn't sure I wanted to continue with the series but as I still had Silent Truth as an ebook I decided to see how the book would go.

Four years ago Hunter Thornton-Payne III lost his best friend and partner of the Bureau of American Defense, when a mission went bad and his friend was shot and sacrificed himself so Hunter could get out alive and complete the mission. Four years later Hunter is still determined to find the assassin and kill him. As an agent of the Bureau of American Defense (B.A.D) Hunter has to go to a charity fund-raiser to find the assassin but in doing so he risks going rogue but he's determined to find the assassin until he meets Abbie Blanton. Abbie is on a secret mission of her own, she's blackmailed her boss to get into the charity fund-raiser to find the cure her mother's mysterious illness, Abbie must find the high-profile heiress who's hosting the fund-raiser. When Abbie finally gets to talk to the heiress she tries to blackmail and bluff her way through the conversation until the heiress is shot and Abbie realizes she's stumbled into an unforgiving conspiracy and she's the next target. Hunter comes to her rescue (more than once) and soon Abbie and Hunter are on the run from B.A.D and the assassin Hunter has wanted to kill of so long. Soon, Abbie and Hunter discover an alarming connection and begin a treacherous battle against an evil enterprise that someone will go to terrifying lengths to keep hidden.

I really wish I could say this was a great book but I can't. Although I enjoyed Silent Truth I don't think I'll be continuing with the series unless the next book really grabs my attention. It's action packed that keeps you gripped with what's happening but the Fratelli, who can be blamed for the Black Plague, global warming, or the attack on the Twin Towers who still continue on in there fight for world domination in Silent Truth just doesn't appeal to me and I find that I don't enjoy that part of the overall story.

What I did enjoy was how Hunter and Abbie had met before, when Abbie was going through a bad time in her life, although Abbie doesn't remember them meeting, Hunter does. Abbie went into a bar and asked Hunter to take her home with him, but she's so drunk Hunter tries to send her home only she won't let him so he takes her home with him and although Abbie doesn't remember the night Hunter does. All this time later Hunter remembers his night with his own 'angel' and how she slept curled up to him.
I also enjoyed how Hunter kept Abbie safe not just from the assassin but from B.A.D as well. Even though it was illegal for Hunter to keep Abbie from B.A.D and the information she had, he was determined to keep her safe and with him.

Just finished reading this book for the second time and it's still a solid five stars.
If you're looking for one hot wounded hero who can be as badass as he can be sweet, this book is for you.
If you're looking for a leading female who can stand her ground and actually deserves a good man, this book is for you.
And mostly, if you're looking for an intense, well written and developed, heart twisting suspense thriller story that will leave you wanting more, much more; this book is for you.

The story is about Abbie, a regular woman who's trying with all she has to save her mother from a huge medical scheme related to the Fratellis (mafia if you may call them that; a group of powerful men who basically want to rule the world)that will become too much for her to handle alone; and her developing romance with Hunter, a secret BAD agent with a loaded baggage of personal experiences that have left him strongly adverse to trusting in general but mainly women. They will find each other as a result of their different interests and in Hunter's pursuit of his best friend's killer, he will find himself having to work with Abbie, a woman worth trusting and a threat to his heart, who's trying to be killed by the same man Hunter has been looking for, for four years.

Sounds complicated? Well it is not. It's a perfectly placed and timed story with ups and downs along all the reading, that keep you from getting bored. Charged with people on the move, suspicions and romance, it's a perfect way of spending what would have been a boring saturday afternoon.

You don't have to had read the previous books to understand this story and get as wrapped around it as someone who might; but if you have, you'll only get more satisfied by SK's BAD series, and will be much more anxious as to where the next book is coming.

I am so intrigued by the Fratellis as I am disgusted by them; that being said, I could probably read a whole book of just them without a parallel romance playing as the main topic. They are just that horribly engaging.

Just a solid 5 stars on the Thriller Romance genre, nothing more to say than: go buy it!

By far my favorite book in the series. Kenyon and Love really hit their stride with this one. I did skip most of the side Fratelli stuff again, but I did stop to skim some of it. Linette really does have a giant pair of balls. I want Gotthard to save her and have them fall madly in love.

Hunter was such a huge surprise to me. As I said previously, I always figured there was something more to him than met the eye, but I didn't know just how much that was. He is amazing. Simply amazing. When he cares and loves, he does so very deeply and he watches over those that mean something to him. I loved watching him change and grow through the course of this one, even when he did go against BADs orders, but what agent there hasn't at one time or another? He took so many risks when it came to Abbie and helping her and avenging Eliot. It made me love him that much more. Abbie is one of my favorite females now as well. Everything she's suffered, she's come out strong, and I can't blame her for her initial insecurities where Hunter was involved. I respect the hell out of her for not being willing to put up with his temporary hot/cold trust issues. Not to mention her desire to do whatever it took to save her mother. How can you not love that?

Abbie and Hunter together is something else. I love them. They have great chemistry and they compliment each other really well. The visit to Cynthia towards the end of the book warmed my heart so much!

As for the thing with Korbin. Not buying it. Nope. Not buying it at all. (may be in denial, but nope)

The plot was high-powered intense, the characters were lovable, heroic, strong, believable, and the writing was out of this world!

Such, as I always state, are sure-fired features of any Sherrilyn Kenyon novel, and when Kenyon and Love pair up to write...watch out! Silent Truth, the third BAD book the authors have co-written together, was seriously great! I regret that I wasn't able to sit down and devote enough continuous time to read this book, but even still, having read this novel over the span of many days, it was still very, very good!

One of my favorite aspects to this book, among many, deals with the hero, Hunter. I adored, truly, how there is a lot more to this male lead than what appeared to be in previous novels. He was truly a fun character to read, and I really liked how his loyalty was so well noted in who he was. Abbie, the heroine of the this story, was equally amazing. She was strong and passionate, but most of all, resilient.

And yet, despite the seemingly vast differences between Abbie and Hunter, what I loved even more was that the two shared equally strong commonalities. Life had given both the proverbial bitch-slap, and yet both Hunter and Abbie picked themselves off the floor by their boot straps and continued on.

The intrigue and suspense of this series amps itself up with every story, and Silent Truth was as high-powered intense as the previous books! All around, a five star book, no doubt!

I was really happy to see a number of scenes with my fav character, Retter. He was missing from the majority of this series happily to surface in that last volume and again in this one. Yay!

It has come to the point where I can tell the parts that the great Sherrilyn Kenyon writes, and the parts the co-author wrote in this series. There are phrases SKenyon just doesn't use in her other books, also she never degrades anyone. One thing I don't like about this series is any sort of flippant remark that would be directed at any side of the fanbase. People who straighten their hair, or are skinny or not curvy enough. These come off less a characters thoughts and more an opinion from a co-author. Unnecessary and childish.. it degrades Sherrilyn Kenyons story imho.

This is my second fav in the series, it was a really good story, but Phantom in the Night still holding the flame, to me.

This one was missing key parts:
• No Korbin memorial?? What? Did they not find his body??
• The ending needed a little bit more solids too.

Is this the last book? What about The bosses book, Lennette and Bear? What about Korbin and Rae's book I'm assuming, no body/no memorial -- he's alive)? What about Retter? Though I think its better his life stays mysterious.. so I take that Q back. :)

Three years since this one was written? When's the next?? No pressure. :D

I got to chapter 11 and I just couldn’t do it anymore. When it feels like I’m struggling to reach the end of the book and it’s still basically the beginning, I just have to stop. I really do hate quitting on books but I just get so bored and distracted that I have to move on.

The prologue was great, I basically got my heart ripped out because I quickly got attached to a character and then something happened. The writing was great, there was some action and then I want to throw the book. All in the span of a couple of pages in the prologue.

When chapter 1 started however, things went downhill. The prologue got me excited for an awesome, action-packed book but what happens? From chapter 1 to 11 they basically do nothing but talk, talk, talk. A tiny, tiny bit of action happens but then it’s talk, talk, talk all over again.

I was so bored and when I set the book down, I dreaded picking it back up. I shouldn’t feel that way about a book. I don’t know if it’s because it was written by two authors or what but, I couldn’t continue.

The writing was good and I am curious as to what happens but there shouldn’t have been 11 chapters of just pure talking.

I have been asked if I’ve read Sherrilyn Kenyon and I have other books by her alone so, I’m going to try one of those. Hopefully it’ll be better.

Thank you for reading my review.

Again, Love and Kenyon supply a rather enjoyable spy action adventure romance. While I'm less invested in the characters of this series than I am in Kenyon's Dark-Hunter series, the two authors seemed to be able to co-write a decent story.

Hunter and Abbie are both interesting characters as is the organization that Hunter works with. BAD is a secret government organization that gives good people who've met with the wrong side of the law a chance to work for their countries defense. Hunter is no exception though he's also a high profile elite from the rich crowd which gives him an in for BAD. However, Hunter's past makes it hard for him to trust even though everything is telling him he can trust Abbie with his life and his heart.

Abbie is a woman trying to break into the documentry scene but before that happens she's got to dish dirt. But her life turns upside down when her mother runs afoul of BAD's main nemesis the Fratelli. Abbie goes to an exclusive party to find something on her mother's poisoning and enters a world of terroists and the spies that put their lives on the line to save our country.

This book was a good spy adventure and for light reading you could do worse.

Silent Truth by Sherrilyn Kenyon and Dianna Love - BAD (Bureau of American Defense) agent Hunter Wesley Thornton-Payne III is loyal to the cause until he finds himself going rouge to catch an assassin he’s been after for 4 years. Abbie Blanton is on a mission to find the cure for her mother’s mystifying disease. When Abbie is present during an attack on an heiress she’s trying to get information from, Hunter jumps in the fray and the two find themselves tangled in a conspiracy that threatens to leave them dead.

The latest BAD Agency romantic thriller has it all – heart-thumping suspense, an explosive plot full of twists and intense emotion. As a writing team, Sherrilyn Kenyon and Dianna Love have set a new standard in romantic suspense with this series.

I've read a few of the BAD short stories and liked them so I decided to take a chance on Silent Truth.

And I really liked it.

I loved the characters. Hunter is the dark, dangerous and mysterious hero that I love to read about. Abbie was slightly annoying at times but for the most part she was a great match for Hunter. She did seem to be preoccupied with either her mother or with imagining sex with Hunter. Although, I can't really dislike her for the second part...

Some parts of the novel lost me - the parts to do with the Lisette and the bad guys.

I guessed the bad guy before it was revealed and got slightly annoyed with Hunter for not realizing when I did. A lot of drama would have been avoided if he had.

Hunter an agent for BAD has lived his whole life never trusting anyone except his friend Eliot. Eliot scarifies his life for Hunter during a mission and it is Hunter's goal to track down Eliot's killer and take vengance. Hunter is willing to destroy his life and his status as an agent for BAD to take this vengence. He is one step away from tracking down his friend's killer when he runs into Abbie. Abbie shows Hunter open trust and rocks his core belief that everyone has an motive/sceme. Will he learn to trust Abbie before he ruins his life, hers and the BAD Op to stop the terrorist plot.

Another great BAD series story form Sherrilyn Kenyon. Keeps you guessing to the end with a whopper of a twist.
